345 SE Taylor St, Portland, OR 97214, USA, Portland
Large gaming store offering a variety of tabletop, board, video & role-playing games.
One of my favorite game stores in the greater Portland metro area. Huge selection of board games, tons of ttrpgs which I really appreciate. Staff could be friendlier at times, but they always know their stuff - the customer service has gotten better over the years.
A mainstay for the gaming community, Guardian is a great one-stop-shop for your cardboard needs. Whether that is in the form of cards or boards, be ready to browse and chat with the crew there. The team is friendly and helpful, and have great knowledge of all things gaming.
Found a ouji board there in the family section. It was the only one they had, but my boys were alarmed for even considering lol and said "no way!" .. probably for the best. Its probably one of the biggest and nicest game store Ive ever been to. The only thing Im not so crazy about is the location and the smell of urine that wreaks heavily around the block. Portland used to be so much better than that.
Staff was super friendly and helped me find info about the game. Multiple people in there helped me and my friends find great stuff to use for our campaign. huge selection of dice and minifigs and boardgames everywhere. Great place if youre a beginner and awesome place in general. 100% recommend!
Prices are too high and shady business practices regarding competition and accounts from previous employees. I don’t like giving them money at all, but at least the staff is nice.Whoever owns the store is hella greedy. As far as I’m concerned, Guardian is the Amazon of MTG stores.
Knock your socks off selection of board games, role playing books and accoutrement, and card games. Excellent highlights on local designers and publishers. At the highest level with Mox Boarding House, Tanuki, and Millinium.
An absolutely massive location, with lots of playing tables, and the largest selection of board games, wargames, and collectible card games I have ever seen. I cannot recommend this place enough!
What an excellent store! Fantastic selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff. We only wish we lived closer to be able to visit regularly.
If you love any kind of table top games, card games, or anything of the sort. This is the place for you. I would love to try all the games they have and cannot wait to go again.
Like board games? RPGs? Miniatures for models? Playing with random people? Gaurdian has literally everything in a very clean, very well lit very friendly atmosphere.
Card game lovers must come here. Its a great selection and everything I would have wanted to check out when it comes to card games. Cant wait to be back
A great shopping experience! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They stock is fantastic and the store offers gaming rooms for privately owed games as well as a healthy game library should you wish to play a game before you purchase a copy. The space is very comfortable both physically and as a nervous nerd.
Seemingly large number of games and accessories. Friendly staff and free parking. Large area to play games in-store.
Guardian Games is a large gaming store with a large selection and variety. They have an excellent selection of both popular and indie board games and ttrpgs. I am not sure of there was another area with dice, but the selection I could locate seemed small. Its not a big problem though. The staff was awesome. Friendly, talkative, and knowledgeable. My partner and I got into a conversation with a staff member about owlbears and favorite d&d monsters to use in campaigns almost as soon as we entered. While checking out, a staff member recommended some awesome games based on what we bought. The shop can be a little overwhelming but the staff members are friendly, approachable, and can help you find what you need. You can tell a lot of the staff are working at a job they enjoy and have passion for.If I can complain about one thing, its the parking. Not much can be done about it, but be warned the parking in front of the building is tiny.
Big, open store with an immense selection of board games, role-playing games, trading card games, dice, miniatures, and more. This should be your ultimate destination for games in Portland. The staff is super friendly and glad to help you find that game you are looking for.
I cannot say enough nice things about this store and their staff. I was in dire straits losing my phone in an uber, and Keith not only made their best effort to help calm me but they also went above and beyond for a total stranger. The selection and variety of this store is awesome. I had a blast playing commander as someone just visiting Portland I was made to feel like I was a local and welcomed by the other players in the pod I played with. Next time I am in town I will definitely be back.
I am always impressed with the variety, and the stock that they carry at this store. I have never been disappointed in the store, only disappointed when I have to choose between one thing I really want and another thing I really want. It’s also a very friendly environment, and the staff are very helpful with your needs. It’s not my local game store, but I’m happy to be a patron when I am in town! Picked up a couple games I’ve been wanting to play, pictures below.
Great friendly staff. Obscure findings. Wonderful selection of of beat and mainstream. Smells like the 4th layer of hell. Pretty great place.
Great gaming shop! So much inventory and very roomie for in house gaming. Planned events and a rewards program! Highly recommend!
I play D&D adventurers league at guardian on Tuesday nights. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the people with the league are too As far as selection, guardian is stocked with a huge inventory.
Really enjoyed the store. They have a place and space to play games. We purchased several games a gifts. The staff answered my questions and they were engaging and curious. I will be back!
Awesome customer service and product knowledge. Very queer friendly! Love the rad dice sets they carry.
Hands down one of the most unique and amazing game stores Ive been to. Huge and highly organized selection, very friendly and helpful staff, and very large play area.Whether you play card games, board games, or miniature war games this is the place for you
Shop has a big selection, is kept clean and the staff is usually nice and helpful. I’ve got to say though, I’m not a huge fan of the interior remodels that have happened over the last few years and the fact that the used games are gone. Used to come here almost weekly but it’s pretty rare at this point.
Guardian games is a clean store, the staff are friendly and not intimidating. There are good selections of TCGs and boardgames to choose from and customer service is neat. Overal, one of the best geeky hobby stores in Portland. Gardian Games is like The Portland Game Store but even more extensive!
Every time I go to this store I catch attitude or some snark from the people that work there. Every time. Luckily they have a ton of products otherwise, why go here? With that, I recently went in to purchase D&D for the first time and was looking at a deal that includes a set of dice with the purchase of a Players Handbook. I went with the bundle of 3 books at a total cost of $160.00. Shouldve done my research first. All of these books are being sold for $30 everywhere else and online. I also didnt get and wasnt offered a free set of dice, as advertised. On top of that was given grief for walking up to the wrong register. Which had 2 employees just sitting there talking. A joke was made that I should be sent to the right register as if I was supposed to be privy to the process. I just walked up to employees that looked to be next to a computer/register closest to the D&D products. He tried to make up the snark as I was obviously not amused by the comments. He tried engaging about what I was purchasing but offered not discount or mention of the deal listed about the free dice. I was a burden to him and his co employee who were trying to have a conversation that did not involve customers or being helpful at work. 2022 this is all to common and I am writing this because I am sick and tired of spending money at locations that have employees who are "above" their clientele.I was charged full, just paid it and left. Im happy with my purchase but am reeling at the fact that I couldve acquired these items for almost half the cost and from somewhere that I wouldnt be made to feel like I am inconveniencing someone. I hate the snark and attitude of every employee at this store. Ive never had a good experience and the overcharging for products that have seen an MSRP drop in price is clear lack of attention to detail and taking advantage of people.I will never shop at GG again.
Needless to say this is the most comprehensive tabletop game stores in the region. I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons for about 20 years and frequent these types of stores. This is the best one I have ever been to.
It was great! Everyone was friendly and helpful and they were really well stocked with all the latest games. Even loads of dice for d&d!
Staff is phenomenal! Friendly, knowledgeable, and they go the extra mile.Great selection of games, and the Sunday Pokemon sessions are fantastic!
I’ve been visiting Guardian Games ever since my LGS I use to visit closed up shop. The people working there are helpful. I picked up a new board game Gloomhaven after consulting with one of the employees about several options. It ended up being a great suggestion because, my play group loves the game. They may not always have the cheapest prices when compared to Amazon or other online retailers. However, they are competitive on their prices for both board games and MTG singles. If you’re looking for a local game store to check out I would recommend Guardian Games.
There are a lot of game stores in Portland but I personally think Guardian is the best. They carry everything imaginable and they get new stuff in all the time. The staff is always great, shout-out to Ruth who I had a great chat with.
Artificial and very corporate feeling with rather scripted reccomendations. judging from the responses I wonder how many of there staff actually play the games they sell and not just word vomit what they hear. If you are ever there and want to test this, ask them about a game you already play and see how many times they say "work replacement" or other generic but non specific terms. There trading cards are vastly overpriced and they dont even know how there own system prices things. The price for packs or decks is grossly overpriced and it is very clear when they deal with someone they dont want to talk to. I wonder if they realize we can hear them insult customers when they are behind a counter. Outside of the above stated a rather large store with a large amount of games.
The staff are super sweet and the selection is huge! There was even womens history month and LGBTQ sections. All good pricing and good quality-- a must for any table top nerd.
This place is amazing! Just wanted to point out how many mini figure paints and supplies they have. Also as all the other photos point out, amazing board game selection and singles for cards and card packs!
Great game store with tons of games and accessories. Really nice employees, good atmosphere, not pushy but still helpful! Wish I lived closer to go more often. Only real negative is the parking and location. It can be difficult to get to depending on the direction you go to get there.
Guardians has a big variety of tabletop games, cards, dice, books and more. They are following covid restrictions and the staff is really helpful.
They have amazing people working at this store! All of them were very helpful and checked in with us to make sure we didn’t have any questions. This place is huge! They have a little of everything here. I’ll definitely be coming back for more dice and bring my players for some miniatures!
It had been just over two years since my last visit to GG, so I wasnt used to the layout at all. An employee helped me find what I was searching for very quickly.Even though the store was decently busy, checkout was quick and smooth, even with me talking up the cashier.Ill definitely be back soon, Im getting back into MTG, after almost a decade of not playing.
Did not interact with ANY staff. But did enjoy a look around. The largest selection of tabletop games Ive ever seen for every age and skill level.Free dice with any D&D Manual purchase! Great book collection.
Such an amazing game shop to have in town. Their selection is out of this world and their prices cannot, I repeat, cannot be beat!! Their covid protocols were great, several hand sanitizer stations, and plenty of room to social distance
Big game store with more games than most can imagine. All the staple big name games like catan and magic to obscure games like Ogre Cheerleaders. Plenty of place to play games and they host game nights. Good parking too!
A massive catalogue of board, card, and dice/miniature games, this store is a veritable treasure trove of real life gaming. While nothing particularly stood out to me, it is clear this store caters to Magoc The Gathering and Pokemon with their visible singles. Plenty of tables with a cafe area for late gaming, DND seems very viable.
What an awesome place. Staff are amazing and helpful. So many games available and probably the best in North America. Awesome gaming space available. Staff and people there are super friendly.
This place is HUGEEEEE!!!! Once I entered, I was in awe of how amazing it looked. Not to mention, the outside view of it is pretty awesome with the way they decorated the window area. I loved the large chess piece decor. An 8 year old boy walked in at the same time with me and exclaimed the same sentiments to his mom immediately upon entering. An ENORMOUS selection, with great organization. Lots of tables to sit and play games at. This place holds events and tournaments, as well. Seems like a really cool place to hang out, especially for gamers and that kinda of scene. One bathroom, and it was pretty clean. The store was clean and the workers were nice and helpful. This is the best place to find whatever boardgame youre in search of.
Coolest game store ever! Towering walls of Bairds games and figurings. They have everything from board games to card games to war machine to magic the gathering. They even have a bar in the back. Only 21+ can go in there which is amazing cause that means the rest of the store is still open to all other ages. In that room though they also have this huge wall of (freerentable board games. Demos and stuff. Amazing. Fun place to meet other fantasy nerds of the sort. Love this store.
Easily one of the best Gaming Shops Ive been to. Had everything I could possibly want. Hosts a ludicrous amount of events. Staff is friendly and helpful. Plus I can drink booze and play boardgames here as well. 6 stars! Guardian Games is why I love coming to portland
If you want to find a gaming book, board game, or card game, this is the place to go. Friendly and helpful staff will narrow down the search for you, and can often give recommendations for similar games youll enjoy.I had a great time browsing, and even brought a friend from Australia who was incredibly awed by the selection. I love this place so much.
Very well stocked game store. MtG focus is modern. Plentiful helpful attentive staff. Comprehensive Euro and American board games. Good book selection with some exclusive and rare RPG books. Well stocked Warhammer 40K section.Plenty of space to play with a varied crowd. There is a bar at the back it’s a great place to hang out.
I went in search of some dice for an online dnd game my friends are starting.HOLY JEEEZE. WAY MORE THAN THE USUAL GAME STORE.Overwhelming is the best description I have for this place but in the best of ways. You can play games, bring your own, I saw people working on model building, some people working or playing on laptops, I saw an employee giving a rundown of a game some people wanted to try-- but were confused with how to begin and he set them up, explained everything in a full YouTube style tutorial and then left them to discover the fun! They have Private rooms, 21+ area ( I think alcohol is permitted but not sure if for sale call before to find out for yourselftons of games collectibles cards books models maps ....just....everything.You can reserve rooms you can try games or just bring yours and meet people. I am mostly excited that the vibe was very relaxed and fun, all different people of different walks of life just nerding together .Staff is attentive and friendly and not hovery.Im so excited to have found this place, will be back for the next pizza and beer night there is!
Awesome game store! They had so much stuff it was a great shopping experience. There are several gaming rooms to keep things a bit more focused on your game. There are many other gaming tables spread out. They have snacks and drinks available for purchase. I was surprised at the amount of gaming accessories they had to add to your Arsenal. 😍 Friendly customer service and clean restrooms. 😊
