This restaurant has successfully achieved worst restaurant experience to date. Not only was the service appalling, the food was poor and the hygiene levels are awful.I visited with my wife and 5 year old son on a Saturday afternoon. We called ahead to make sure they had availability and was told there was plenty of seats available. We arrived 10 mins later and requested to sit in the back, the waitress said they were completely booked out but we could clearly see that the restaurant only had one occupied table in total. She then said it was actually free.We sat down, spent a few mins to decide on our order and then had to wait 15 mins for the waitress to realise that we were ready to order. The table next to us (the only other diners in the restaurantmentioned that they also had to wait for a long time before the waitress realised to take their order. We asked the waitress if the chicken burger was spicy as it was for our 5 year old and she assured us that it was mild. We ordered starters, the burger meal and 2 x jerk chicken with pepper and spice. The starters arrived first (which we enjoyed), followed by the burger (which was missing the chipsand then the 2 x jerk chicken (did not taste of jerk). We notified the waitress (different to the first onethat the fries were yet to arrive and that our jerk chicken was flavoured with sweet BBQ and not pepper and spice as requested. As we didn’t want to be difficult we kept the jerk chicken and asked them to bring the correct sauce in a separate bowl. She was really helpful and brought the sauce over almost immediately but the chips took a further 10 mins to arrive.By this time our son finished his starters and was ready for the burger. He took one bite and found it was too spicy to eat. We called over the same waitress and told her that the burger was spicy and that her colleague informed us that it was mild. She instantly informed us that this was incorrect information and that the burgers are pre-seasoned with spice and that she also finds it too spicy to eat. She recommended the Mac and cheese and we ordered another portion of the starters. Our son had to wait a further 20 mins before the replacement meal arrived and during this time we made a trip to the toilet. The stairs leading down seemed like they haven’t been cleaned for a few years and the toilets themselves were beyond dirty. We headed back upstairs to find hair in the Mac and cheese. By this time we had enough and was ready to leave.Although we were not charged for the Mac ‘n’ cheese and burger, we had to part with £95.00 for an awful experience and poor quality food.Do not waste your money or time.
Had a delicious meal, beautiful and cosy interior, great service. The mac and cheese was amazing and the jerk chicken was divine!Definitely coming back!
I did really like the food and service was very friendly and quick. But at £18 for a plate of 1/4 chicken, rice and plantain, not the best value. The music was really loud which kind of ruined the atmosphere for me
They removed all burgers from menu, kept only one chicken. The price are too expensive regarding the food quality/quantity. The chips home made quantity is smaller than it used to be. They charge 12.5% service. Paid 67£ fot 3 burgers with 3 chips home made and 3 coke. After couple of years visiting this restaurant, I will never come back.
I reserved a table for 20 people for my birthdayVenue was really nice. BYOB should be done in all restaurants. Cost effective and everyone gets to enjoy their favourite tipple.Food was 10/10. Tasty, cooked very well. Portion sizes were extremely generousStaff were very friendly and helpful but service was a bit slow.Overall a very lovely restaurant and I will be recommending this place to my family and friends
The Food was amazing! Best Caribbean food Ive ever had. The Jerk chicken is a must for every visit. The service was a bit lacking but altogether very good.
The service here is absolutely shocking and the food is very average. Meals don’t come out together and when it does come something is missing and then you will have to wait another 20mins for someone to bring you cutlery. Was expecting good things after seeing lots of positive social media reviews but as a massive foodie I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
I had the jerk roast beef, and in my opinion it was just about edible... the potatoes tasted like they came out of a frozen packet, cooked in old oil and were not roasted more like boiled but then that could be from the fact that the whole plate was drenched in what could only be described as a salty watery, pepper gravy.... no other flavours; no garlic, thyme, scotch bonnet flavours coming through.....The beef was not slices from a joint but more like a cheap rump steak sliced up.... the nicest and most edible thing on the plate was the plantain which Im sure shouldnt have cost me £24..... had a better roast dinner at a whetherspoons and that is saying something.... especially if i want salt and pepper flavours only.....sorry but I would never come back here or ever recommend. Very disappointed and they should not be trying to pass this off as carribean food.... it is an insult. One positive is that the waiters/waitresses were all nice and accommodating.
Poor experience went with family everyone complained jerk tasted like cinnamon and a little bit fishy roast beef tasted like they poured a tub of black pepper on it took a hour and 30 mins to bring a cup of Fanta sea bass dish with mash and feta was in edible tasted like vomit which means it was off 🤮 mac and cheese just tasted like nutmeg with cheese and pasta other food I tried just tasted extremely salty the chef started cussing and stormed out the restaurant which I thought was very unprofessional. positives was staff was quite polite and I enjoyed the strawberry cocktail but considering how pricey everything is you would expect some top quality food but honestly I’d rather go for a cheeky McDonald’s.
Food was awful, Seabass dish was poor. The sauce was too pungent, salty and sour. The mash with feta tasted like vomit. The feta had clearly gone rancid! The half jerk chicken tasted too sweet with a Chinese hoisin flavour and too much cinnamon. The vegan dish with chickpeas, okra and beans was just a salt bomb and inedible. The Mac and cheese was overpowered with a nutmeg flavour. No idea how this place gets good reviews. Staff were OK and polite but the drinks service was poor. They were literally bringing one drink out at a time. Took 1.5 hours to get a glass of Fanta that came from a drinks machine. The only thing that I found nice was the Calamari but everything else was unauthentic, incorrectly seasoned and a generally poor example of Caribbean cuisine.
I first had dinner here 2 month ago and couldn’t stop thinking about the food! Had the boneless jerk chicken which was unbelievably tasty. Came back tonight and had the jerk chicken platter that came with lost of side and it was fantastic! Prices are great and the servings are huge. The chef is also really nice. I will definitely go back
I was a good experience, the food would definitely have me going back. I think with a few small tweaks Id give more stars. The staff are nice but just require a bit more urgency in their approachWe went at a busy time but the food and drinks took ridiculously long to come. The toilets are limited but I guess its a small place. One staff member wanted to open the back door as there was a group coming to eat outside and while that may work in summer it was freezing and we constantly had to shut the door. In all, not a bad spot but Id say go when its not busy, avoid the back door and avoid the toilets.
The consistency of the dishes here is very poor, some days you get amazing food some days you dont, and one week you may have a plate that looks completely different and tastes different to next weeks. Its a big shame. The service is extremely slow, waitresses and waiters, although really friendly stand around a lot and arent very attentive, the food took 1.5 hours to arrive and thats because we asked when it will be coming. I dont know if I can recommend this place because its too inconsistent! Who knows when youll get good service and a good meal, its hard to predict.
The food was excellent but took an hour to arrive. People that had arrived way after us were served. We asked for updates which we never got and had to ask over 5 times for a jug of tap water... We missed half of our event and had to eat super quickly. Would not recommend
Amazing spot, the food was so tasteful with sized decent portions. I had to shout out the chef on my way out. We had a good convo & within seconds I could tell he was passionate about the food they cook. Throughly recommend!
Waited around 20 minutes for a waiter to take an order ! Then waited a further hour for the food to get to our table . Me & my partner both ordered the Sunday roast , I had beef , he had chicken . The flavours of the food were good, although the beef was VERY SPICY . I was asked how I’d like my beef and although I asked for medium , I received rare/very undercooked beef which I was unable to eat. When explaining to a waiter about the beef being rare , I had no apology or acknowledgment of this . I then spoke to another waiter, and again , she also did not apologise . I find the customer service TERRIBLE !!!The previous waiter then came back over to me as I asked to speak to a member of management. When she came over she swapped my receipt over and said she has taken my Sunday roast off the bill. Again , I had no apology or acknowledgment at the fact that they got my order wrong and I was unable to eat my food .The toilets were also DISGUSTING 🤢!!!!
Went there today with high expectations bitterly disappointed to say the least.Overall the food was actually quite decent in terms of taste but that was all that good. The bad:Customer service was non existent in there-waited 15 minutes for first order to be taken after being seated-waited 30 mins for bottled water and a mocktail-waited just under an hour for food-my partners roast beef was terribly undercooked and rare when asked for medium-when told about beef waiter offered no apology or even acknowledgment just gave us the bill-we then asked for the manager from a different waiter who then got the original waiter back who took the beef off the bill and that’s it still no apology
Awful awful awful! Service was horrific, food came wrong multiple times, food took 1 hour to come initially, staff had a bad attitude apart from one waitress, travelled from Manchester after reading the reviews, booked two weeks in advance for a birthday meal, we were seated at the front of the restaurant even though I explained we prebooked and asked for nicer seating at the back. I don’t have a single good thing to say. When I complained I was told they are busy so I should sympathise with staff. Husbands birthday meal ruined. Would never recommend.
food was pretty meh, they keep all the doors open so even with heavy rain and it being cold outside your cold, nachos were completely stale when I ate them like rock solid I had to turn them back. Its BYOB which is cool
Had a great experience at this restaurant, amazing authentic Caribbean food. The portion sizes and flavours are good as well as the interior decor. The staff are lovely especially the head chef Stephan would definitely visit again.
Clean seating environment (even the toilet was clean, which for a Friday night is impressive!!)Loved the flavours, great tasting food. Very friendly staff. Smiling and helpful (one of the best restaurants by far). Only down side was they put a plate of food on our table, then took it away saying it’s for the wrong table. Was a pleasant surprise there was a pray facility provided which was a bonus.Only critic is price is very high, can be seen as overpriced even.
Best food I’ve had in the UK. PERIODDDDDT. Got the oxtail and boneless jerk chicken. Absolutely salivating just thinking about it and I just finished eating. Go figure.
Really tasty Latin-American Halal dishes. I’ve been here twice and have ordered jerk chicken and rice, and the BBC Smash burger. Both were flavourful, but make sure you can handle a bit of spice with the chicken! The bowl of love hearts at the entrance was also a nice touch.
Great local restaurant, food portions are sizeable, tastes great and the service is friendly!Been going there for 10 years now and wont be stopping anytime soon. Highly recommended!
Medium size latin American and Caribbean food restaurant, with a menu of 100% halal, and no alcohol served.Clean, portions are good. Prices average.I recomend the oxtail dish if you want to try something different.
My friend came from Qatar to visit. Since she is Muslim, I wanted to find a place where she could comfortably eat without the need of asking if it is halal. This place is excellent, food is delicious, staff are friendly, what more does one need!
The service was great, kind and friendly staff. The food was not good at all. We ordered ribs, we were dreaming to feel them melting in our mouth, well, the mouth got dried and we could not swallow yet as no matter how much you chew they were rock hard. It comes with nothing else so we ordered some garlic and parmesan chips, and thats what weve received oven baked chips with a sprinkle of garlic granules and parmesan scales direct from the bag (£7 a small portion), we really thought it will be garlic infused oil, or at least some fresh garlic. The chicken, omg, the chicken overly sweet, almost inedible, a flavour you get really tired of, the sides of the chicken were fried plantains (not too much room to screw thatand rice with beans, the rice was basmati, and as people in my country call this type of rice WORLD CUP RICE, meaning it was full of balls. They dont have a kids menu but kindly advise us to take cheeseburgers specially made for kids dinning in, we agreed (£10 each), it was a badly shaped patty in a dinner roll, cheese and some ketchup. I will say avoid. No parking, no wheelchair accessible and clearly not kids friendly.
We had an amazing dining experience as per usual, the staff are extremely friendly! My fiancé extended his gratitude to the Head Chef for curating such a flavourful meal (sticky lucky beef ribs). We look forward to visiting again.
Firstly the food tasted lovely, although we had to wait a substantial time for the main. But generally I think it was expensive for the service, vibe and setting. It is not competitive to other establishments in the area including brunches and prestigious restaurants (which there are literally tens!that are more central. The decor is tired/ dirty in places, staff werent attentive, didnt make conversation, ask questions etc. They were not rude just somewhat uninterested/ inattentive which can really make or break an experience, especially for a birthday meal with quite a high price tag with a high BYOB fee (plus service charge). The wings platter starter was £11 but we only got 5 wings. I wouldnt call this a platter and although they were lovely, again, not sure if they were worth the money.Ive paid less for brunches in the area which have been just as tasty but better value for money and all round experience.Ultimately, Im glad we visited but not sure I would rush back or recommend to anyone who wants a special evening out.
The greeting that we got as we walking in left a forever warm feeling, and my first impression was just quite simply wow. I tried the beef ribs and boneless chicken and I felt like I was eating my mums food. Away from home! Highly recommend
Great food and you can bring your own bottle if you want to drink. 👍👍
I had an interesting night at this restaurant. Firstly THANK YOU to the 3 waitresses on shift Neveah, Asma and Aurita. Even though you were short staffed, fully booked, and left to handle a situation that’s above your pay grade you did well. The 3 Stars are because of you three!Tip for Management- It may be wise to not book Two large parties at the same time whilst being short staffed. (Our party alone was 18 peopleit leaves the waitresses unable to be attentive to customers as well as fulfilling their duties (i.e. clearing tables emptying the shelf of plates and general cleanliness of the restaurantor give themsections to serve including the Gm ( who spent his time floating around the tables looking busy/flustered.)The Gm shouldn’t be allowed to run the floor if he is unable to handle small conflicts or general issues with service. He may be good at admin and Setting KPIs but implementing structure Boosting morale and giving the team confidence to fulfil the task at hand is not his strong point. My party waited over an hour for starters and I then approached the GM and asked how long the starters are going to take. I was then told another 25 minutes because the other large party placed that order and then decided to change 11 of their orders. We were not offered anything for this inconvenience except an apology. At this point we decided it was best to order our mains. 5 to 10 minutes later we received two of our starters and proceeded to watch a couple of the other tables that had ordered after us receive Their meals before us. During this time the general manager was having an argument with a guest at a different table which he unnecessarily escalated and threatened to call the police. He made a point to announce that he is calling the police and then decided to walk to the front of the building. Within 30 minutes majority of our starters had arrived and as well as some of the sides without any mains. Within another 30 minutes the rest of our mains had arrived BUT we were still missing some of our sides and a starter. I decided to get up and speak to Nevaeh who informed me that her manager had left. I was shocked and felt as though that was unacceptable. Nevaeh and Aurita then Handled the issue to the best of their ability and discounted our bill. I was then approached by A different Manager from a different site who then sorted out the missing sides and also boxed up some desserts for free. (Lovely guy more professional than the general manager). The GM then returned to the restaurant in time to issue us our bill. I took him aside and explain to him that I didn’t find the way he ran the restaurant to be appropriate, he was unable to hold himself accountable for his actions and blamed the other large party for his departure. Personally I think his departure was due to being embarrassed And overwhelmed not that his life was in danger. No one from my party heard it and the lady ( he argued withwas not quiet. At this point one of the waitresses were brought to tears due to what have been placed on her shoulders. The manager was oblivious and was again floating around the restaurant trying to look busy. I took the waitress aside and proceeded to give her a pep talk. During that time I met the owner of the restaurant as well as the actual manager of the restaurant who are both lovely women and were very apologetic. After all that would I return? Yes but when the Gm is not on shift
Very poor service and unhygienic setting. The manager on shift had a terrible attitude and was spitting whilst talking, the manager dismissed all of our concerns and was rude from the very start… the staff work and serving the food are under age and do not have a clue what they are doing, there was no sense of direction. We tried to raise that the sharing platter was not adequate for two people considering single portions are larger than normal. The manager threatens to call the police because we stated that we was not happy and had been waiting for over an hour to be served. He was dismissive and aggressive and accused us to possibly attempting not to pay so he told a member of my dinner party that he is not going to serve us!
This place was fantastic. The boneless jerked chicken was well prepared. The seasonings were just right and the chicken was juicy and not over or under cooked. The rice and beans were delicious. The plantains were cooked to perfection. It was also nice that a little bit of salad was included with the meal. I have tried halal Caribbean food in New York, but none of them compare to my experience at this place. My wife also loved the oxtail dish. This is our favorite place now to go to in London. 🇵🇷 🇩🇴
Food was really good, I had the hangover plate from the brunch menu and will be going back again to try their main menu. The wait was quite long but it was busy and a sunday so not too sad. The staff were pleasant and polite too.
Got taken to Guanabana for my birthday treat recently.Pleasantly surprised with the decor, atmosphere and ambience. Quite relaxed yet contemporary. Sat in the atrium at the back near the bifold doors which were fully open revealing a lovely outdoor space. Great artwork on the walls. The waitress greeted us with a huge genuine and warm smile and showed us to our table. Her demeanour for the entire evening was professional, courteous and delightful. The Jerk Chicken platter was just enough for two. Wish there had been more chicken and that the plantain was less burnt but, overall, the flavours were spot on. Left me wanting more! One gripe was the English Breakfast tea was served in the tiniest pot and came with the most minuscule cup and saucer I’ve ever seen. Please consider serving a FairTrade teabag (like Sainsbury’s Red Labelin bigger crockery. Won’t cost you more and your tea-drinking customers will love you for it!Conversely, I thoroughly enjoyed my lychee virgin mojitos (yes, I had more than one - please don’t judgeand, overall, it was a perfect end to a wonderful day.I’ll be back.
Pros+ The curry lamb was well seasoned, juicy and contained few very few bones.+ Well presented, with salad and a ration of plantain.Cons- Food Menu is very limited, drinks menu even more so.- Waiter was very rude. We were in a group of 10 and he forgot to bring my coke out. Coke needs no preparation deeper than pouring it, but when asked rather than admit it was forgotten, the guy came with attitude.
Calamari and Sunday roast chicken jerk with plantain … A little gem , I want yo try more on the menu so I will come back . To top it up the service was friendly and at the speed you decide to eat . You’ll see me again 👍😊
I have been a few times to this restaurant and loved the jerk chicken, perfect meal and have never had any complaints. However, most recently I tried the beef Ramadan roast. I was disappointed. The beef was too pink and rare for my liking, so it was chewy and quite bland, the jerk sauce was doing all the job by adding all the flavour. It seemed that they were trying something different with the Yorkshire puddings as it didn’t taste like you’re average good Yorkshire pudding, they were trying to hard to make it special with a more unique batter which didn’t work. The potatoes were quite stale. The veg (baby carrots and cabbageand plantain were the best part to the meal.My friend kindly offered me her chicken from her Ramadan roast seeing how displeased I was with my meat. The chicken was definitely the better option. My friend also had a lychee mocktail, which I tasted, no lychee flavour was present and it was quite bitter. I asked the waitress if syrup or sugar could be added to tone down the bitterness. Once she did, my friend stated there was an improvement but it was ‘drinkable’.This is my only experience of Guanabana that has left me dissatisfied with the food. I would recommend other options such as the jerk chicken, keeping in mind that I last had this over a year ago, I can’t comment on what it tastes like recently. They have prayer space in the back outside with a soft mat, which I really appreciated. Customer service was efficient. Price is decent.
The calamari is delicious, definitely the best starter we ordered even tho the wings and the nachos were good as well! We ordered the jerk platters which comes with rice and peas, Mac and cheese, coleslaw and it was one of the best comfort food Ive ever had! It was extremely filling but I felt like it could have more chicken as you are paying £40 for it which I think its quite overpriced. Overall it was a good experience and I will probably come back but definitely overpriced.
Food is brilliant, flavours that will make you come back for more…only if you have the patience to wait a while for your food. Nevertheless great food. Jerk chicken is not one to miss.
Staff was extremely nice and welcoming. Ordered beef burgers which were good. Didnt get the extra price for the gravy/sauce though which was very watery to have with a burger.
First and last time. Ordered jerk chicken with plantain and rice. Was disgustingly overcooked. Also ordered the spinach starter. Flavour of both dishes was insanely overpowered by salt! Tasted like a whole salt bottle had been dropped in Ruined! Ruined my meal. Wont be returning at all or recommending. Had high expectations. Left disappointed and salty!
Brunch at Guanabana Restaurant in Camden was an amazing dining experience. The food was amazing. From portions to the cost of food, all tied in well. The one thing I have never experienced is being able to take your own drinks too the venue. They serve their own drinks from juice to smoothies. If you love seasoned food or explosive flavours in your mouth then this is the place for you.
Best Caribbean food I’ve had. Soo tasty and on point. The portion sizes are soo filling I had to take a goody bag home 5/5 service and pleasant staff.
Came here last night with my boyfriend and absolutely loved it! My first time trying oxtail and it was great! also 10/10 service! maya was very attentive and sweet! Her energy was amazing the whole time! one thing i can suggest is to maybe add more waiters in each section? the back of the restaurant was very busy yet she was the only one taking care of the section at the time and i could see she was stressing a little , but even then she gave great service and made sure we were having a great experience which is appreciated! definitely recommend the oxtail and abodo wings!
The food, service and vibe at Guanabana cannot be faulted. Friendly attentive staff and the tastiest food I have had for so long. Will definitely be going back to try the breakfast. I had the mandem burger which consists of a jerk chicken patty which was so tasty. My sisters had the boneless jerk chicken meal which was so tender and juicy and the smash burger which was so flavourful. The drinks were also delicious. We had the virgin mojitos which were ace. Cannot recommend this place enough. A must visit!
Enjoyed my first meal since lockdown at this resturant. Really enjoyed my evening. The service is really good with excellent staff. The food was delicious!! We ordered jerk chicken with rice and pea which was amazing. The portion size was excellent. Taste and quality of food was a very high standard. 1 small issue, we ordered mac and cheese and it came out cold to the middle of the dish which told me that it was frozen! Overall great experience. Highly recommended!!!
Amazing. The food was good all round from start to finish. Surroundings was very nice so felt comfortable eating here. I would definitely recommend the steaks here along with a nice chilling mojito drink. The staff are very welcoming and polite. Will be coming here again to enjoy this food.
If your looking for delicious Caribbean food go here! The portions are HUGE especially the Jerk Chicken. The flavours are great, everything is well seasoned and spiced. This is a BYOB restaurant which so grab a bunch of drinks before hand if you want and settle in for some authentic Caribbean home cooking.Overall, friendly staff and this is a great place for group dinning.Make sure you try the cactus fries something I had never tried before and they were great!!
