Grosser Mythen - Swiss restaurant in Schwyz, Switzerland
Grosser Mythen in Schwyz
Description
Privilege
Steep way up, but one of the most impressive outlooks between the alps an the midlands
MoreVey well kept trail, amazing scenery!
MoreSmall climbing, big taste of alpinism feeling and huge satisfaction to be on the top of this mountain 💪👍⛰️Climbing the Mythen is the sport highlight of all hikes in this region ✌️ The Mythen was therefore also called the "Matterhorn of hikers", the striking rock pyramid offers a magnificent view 360 of the surrounding valleys and mountains.
MoreExcellent place to exercise hiking up and down to spend sometimes on top with breathtaking views. Some rocks are becoming slippery with the years of people doing the trail. On hot days be sure to take plenty of water, but you can buy on the bar on top but it will be more pricey😀.
MoreGreat and easily accessible peak! Gorgeous views and gig restaurant up there. Probably crowded on the weekend - Friday was busy already.
MoreSuch a beautiful hike if it has to be a rather quick one. I did it together with two friends (m, 23; m, 23; f, 21and we had a blast on our way to the summit. The first part is a rather gentle walk through a bit of forest and pasture before the actual ascend really starts. This part can also be skipped by using the lift (Brunni SZand it took us 42 min.Afterwards, the proper ascend begins. Rather steep serpentines crawl up the backside of the mountain. It is a regular path with no need for any climbing. We did the hike in beautiful sunshine and it was dead dry but I can imagine that this passage can become dangerous once it is wet so please keep this in mind. From the car par (right next to Brunni SZall the way to the summit it took us 1h33. On top is a little hut that serves cold beverages and also some smaller bits and pieces of food if one is really hungry. The descend should not be underestimated as especially the first bit can be quite exhausting for the legs. However, if one takes time it is absolutely fine.As mentioned in the beginning this hike is a huge recommendation should one be in the area around Einsiedeln. All in all it took us 3h21 to come back to our car, however we also spend around 40 min on the top of the mountain.
MoreI think Gross Mythen is one of most beautiful and exciting peaks anywhere near Zurich. And there is a Swiss restaurant up top of the Gross Mythen, you can only reach by foot. This area around the Gross Mythen area has easy hiking to extreme mountaineering, mountain bicycling. Restaurant supplies are airlifted by helicopter only. There are no car streets up, so take the Rotenfluhbahn from Rickenbach Seilbahn, Schwyz to get closer to the peak.
MoreA great walk with magnificent views.
Beautiful peak and definitely a must visit if you are into hiking steep heights.
Just the views of it are worth the walk from Einsieldeln to Schwyz.
MoreGreat and slightly challenging hike to the top of one of the most beautiful mountains in Switzerland. You should be either experienced in mountain hiking or at least be enough fit. The way to the top is stony and sometimes really narrow and steep, thus good shoes are recommended. The hike takes 1 to 2.5 hours, depending on your firness and how many people you will have to "cross". Definitely recommend for everyone whos up for a slight challenge and love a 360° view on top.- P. S. There is a restaurant on the top where you can buy snacks, drinks and even something to eat.- Interesting fact: The food/drinks are being transportet by helicopter to the top.
MoreMore than worth the climb :))
We parked at the skilift of Brunni, from there are plenty of signs to indicate the way to the top. We had a bit of snow on the shadow side, but all in all very doable. There is no skilift, or gondola to bring you down. The total hike was 8.5km (back and forthwith an elevation of 720m. The hike itself is very nice, but Pilatus, Rigi, are a bit more difficult imo (maybe because it is longer).
MoreFrom helicopter could see this restaurant at top of mountain.
Superb hike with great views the entire way and a superb chalet at the top. Very exposed the entire way so not ideal for kids or when its rainy.
MoreOne of the best hikes Ive ever done.No problems finding parking at Rotenflue (a bit expensive, 8chf for the entire day)Initially altitude difference seems a lot, but the steepness of the path is very low due to several hairpin bends. We reached the top In less than 2 hours, proceeding very slowly. I would say the path was not difficult, nor dangerous at all, but I wouldnt go there if it was wet.At the top there is an incredible 360 view, the best Ive ever seen from mountains in that zone. The only problem was the amount of insects at the top: there were storms of flying ants, and it was pretty annoying.
MoreWonderful hike with wonderful views. My hardest 2,7 km until now, because of the elevation and the difficulty of the road but totally worh it.
MoreTHIS EARTH PARADISE PLACE.
Amazing place for a one-day hiking trip from Zürich. The feeling after you get to the top is totally worth the pain, especially on a warmer day. The hut offers my most favorite Gerstensuppe (barley soupand it does not taste anywhere else as good as here!
MoreGreat peak. Worth hiking to. Little scary for newbies.
Amazing view
Great monument mountain Mythen
Great hike, amazing views at the top.Very popular, one option to avoid people is to leave at the bottom in Brunni at 0710. So that one can go by the mountain station of the cable car before it starts running. With all the chains and fences they have it is a T3- in good weather. I have not been when it rains, but it feels that it goes from "acceptable with sneakers" to "bring mountaineering boots"if it is slippery.
MoreMagestuous! Incredible landscapes throughout the entire journey. Two hours climbing the mountain that served to enjoy the wonderful views. Wearing comfortable shoes makes the road lighter, spaces during the journey ideal to sit down and have a snack while you delight in the landscape ...
MoreDuring corona times it was quite crowded (probably since nobody had better planswhich is why some hikers felt unsafe. Apart from that it was a great hike, beautiful scenery and not without good reason one of the most famous hikes in Switzerland. I recommend starting early since it might get hot during lunchtime/early afternoon.
MoreExcellent walking to be had up this iconic Swiss mountain. Well maintained trails leading up to the peak where cold refreshments can be purchased. Some narrow, steep sections but well worth the effort for the views on top.
MoreToo many people for my taste, which leads to many crossings. There is a 2chf overcharge for credit cards at the hut on the summit, FYI.
MoreIconic mountain in the Swiss Prealps, canton Schwyz, with characteristic shape visible from many points. The steep trail from Holzegg (upper station of chairliftleading to the summit winds up through rocky slopes, is well maintained, equipped with cables and easily accessible to experienced hikers. Open during the summer months only, takes about 1- 1.5 hours for 400m ascent. On top there is a small hut offering drinks and snacks. Magnificent view.
MoreMagnificent hiking experience
Stunning views! Note that it is quite a steep incline the entire way so you will be working up a sweat, but it’s well worth getting to the top to see the 360 panoramic views (and take a photo with the flag). There’s a hut where you can have drinks, snacks and use the toilet.
MoreOpen only in summer. A wonderful mountain that can be climbed in only one hour, start point is the cable car station Rotenflue. Many legends entwine around the conspicuously trident, far visible mountain peaks of the big and small Mythen. On both summits you can expect a fantastic panoramic view and on the large a small, finely maintained hut. "The Man" aka the Guardian goes up and down every day. There are old rituals here: a regulars table where only those who have been more than one hundred times in a season are allowed to sit down. A must-see for every local and Swiss traveler.
MoreSpeechless
The sunrise hike is a must do in the summer.
Nice trip to the very heart of Switzerland. Spectacular view.
Amazing 360° view which is well worth the strenuous climb. The path is very well-kept and feels safe.
MoreBeautiful !
The trail up is not steep but is mostly rocky and slippery on occasion. Great views at the top.
MoreBreathtaking!!! #Switzerland #Alps
Really nice place for walting and climbing. We enjoyed a wonderful day there. Its really easy to get, even by car or by train, and you have a nice walk up the hill to get to the climbing area. They views really worth it.
MoreLove it!
Very nice hike that could be done with children. Awesome round view at the top. Make sure it is dry because stone path can became very slippery.
MoreBeautiful landscape
Impressive looking mountain.
Fantastic hike, short but intense and great views
Nice trek to the top. Fantastic 360 degree views.
Fantastic mountain to hike up with great views! Medium difficulty, took us a good hour to get to the top, including photo breaks. Great view and the restaurant has a bunch of tasty drinks and snacks.
