Grizzly Rock Cafe in Modesto
Description
Chef kiss. Excellent food. Sausage gravy and biscuit. Give me that gravy for days. Yummm. Juicy beer battered fried mushrooms. Fat boys! I picked the country potatoes instead of hashbrowns. Red potatoes, grilled yellow onion, red and green bell. Too die for. Chicken Cordon bleu omelet. Hollandaise sauce was perfect lemon hints. Inside was good but it threw me when the chicken turned out to be "nugget" style. And a wee bit over cooked.Got a California Benedict. Wonderful. Looking forward to trying them all. This was a take home order. Very short staffed. Couldnt get anyone on phone to take order but couldnt have been friendlier and quick to get the order to us once we got there.Hard pressed to say anything good about the building or grounds but I bet theyre a real kickin place to party on a Friday nite. Busboy was busy cleaning up the aftermath inside and outside. One negative: the two flies that pestered us while we waited. Uggh. Glad it was a take away.
MoreI have never had such a delicious hamburger in my life. When they say its an Angus hamburger, you get an Angus hamburger. Is cooked in season to perfection. Our server was wonderful. She was polite and friendly.I have to say Id give that hamburger a 10 stars!
MoreFriendly service. The hamburger was out of this world. Angus beefWonderful flavor . BIG.
MoreIts a decent locals dive spot. They have a few more draft beer options than many dive bars, and the food is good too. The burgers are great, and the steak sandwiches too. The have a TouchTunes box and a couple electronic dart boards, not much else. The other side of the place separate from the bar is the restaurant area thats open during the day when the bar is not. Theres plenty of parking, kind of seems dead always, but its just because people can spread out. Also, the place looks like it could be closed down from the outside, not particularly inviting, but its open, a decent spot to grab a drink and a bite to eat, and chill.
MoreWaste of my hard earned money. 7 eleven has better tasting Nachos, dont buy into the description nothing like it sounds. $10.00 Marg nothing but blended ice hardly any flavor of a margarita.. $8 shot of tequila in a faux shot glass giving you half a serving. Not to mention the service slow as Xmas and no one there? Very Bad would never go again unless wanting a beer.
MoreLet me start off by saying that the food is spectacular! Very delicious and has all the flavors you would expect a good breakfast to have. I ordered a Ham and Cheese Omelette with Country Potatoes and a biscuit with gravy. The biscuit with gravy passed my breakfast test. I only gave 3 stars because the glassware was unclean. The restaurant seems to be falling apart. I did not get good service being one out of two patrons at the restaurant. The server devoted her full attention to the other patron seated at the counter. I did not get her name but she was wearing fuzzy Ugg sandals. She wasn’t rude but at the same time not friendly.
MoreThe outdoor patio is great when there is live music! They have a very yummy Maui burger and their criscut fries are the best in town! They also have breakfast and lunch specials for fair prices!! I would highly recommend this restaurant!
MoreThe place look abandoned but the food and cocktails are really good, I like to spend time drinking with friends
MoreFirst time been here and they where very friendly n checked on me often to make sure my food was good along w my drink... I will come back again
MoreWe absolutely love coming to Grizzly Rock Cafe! The staff is incredibly friendly, and the food is delicious. We stop by once a weekend for breakfast to get the tasty Backwoodsman breakfast sandwich and one of the most perfectly made waffles. It’s so hard to find a place that makes good waffles but this spot has them! Love seeing Frank and Claire’s friendly service, she’s so attentive! For lunch try the Club sandwich, and for dinner their nachos!Family owned, and overall great service.
MorePlace is a little run down. Paid 28.99 for a very small piece of prime rib after I finally found out they even offered prime rib. Tried it cause I hear about it on our local radio station often. Looks like it may have been a fun place at one time. Didnt take pics of the food I guess cause I just wasnt expecting what came to our table.
MoreIn major need of upkeep, walked in and out. The bartender seemed odd that we were there for dinner. Only one booth we lit, the others had burned out lights. It seemed like a cool place back in the hay day, far from its former glory.
MoreThe food was cold and the service was slow. The place was not packed. No refills. We have eaten there before and enjoyed the food. Im not sure what happened.
MoreThey were very accommodating! We were invited to come to grizzly Rock for breakfast on fathers day on short notice! Our table kept growing with people but the server was professional and we were able to get our order in. Its a nice quiet hidden gem! When other restaurants have long waits, you can usually get into grizzly rock. The patio and building itself could use some sprucing up to restore it to glory but otherwise had a great breakfast here! Im sure the bar is awesome too!
MoreThe food and service was horrible. The fish and chips we ordered tasted frozen and over fried. We sat in the bar area where she was more interested in chatting with the guy at the bar and her phone than servicing her only dining customers.
MoreAwesome place love the rustic environment great people and awesome food would I come back HELL YEAH I WOULD.
MoreI didnt snap any pictures of the place but was very happy with the food and service and will definitely be going back. A little hole in the wall, not the greatest aesthetics on the outside but cute and quaint on the inside with a feel of home cooked food! We went for breakfast but their lunch and dinner menu sounded delish as well. The outside patio area was cute and looked like it would be a great spot to hang out with friends and chill with some drinks and appetizers.
MoreDidn’t try the food, didn’t even get to try a soda. Was directed to a table, waited 25 minutes and no one came to help us.
MoreWaitress was nice, but the brisket , ewwww, Im not sure if they use propane, or lighter fluid, but it was all in the meat, I couldnt eat it. They didnt even offer to take it off my bill..they had some red potatoes they do with garlic they were good.. but I wont be back
MoreGrizzly Rock Cafe has the best food. You get your moneys worth. The service is great too. The owners always make sure everything is to the customers satisfaction.
MoreGreat food, Nice service.I suggest go there instead of getting on the N Hwy 99. 4 Adults, 5 Kids, everything was perfect.
MoreWonderful food (large portionsand great service at a very reasonable price. We loved it!
MoreNice spacious place, however it did not meet my expectations for cleanliness. Looks abandoned or closed upon arrival but I spotted the Open sign so we gave it a chance. We were the only guests at 10am hour & the waitress mentioned how slow its been. With that fact I would expect a fairly spotless & clean restaurant both inside & out. Menus & table was dirty, cobwebs on the cute decor both high & low & floor had scattered debris under tables & throughout establishment. Food was average for breakfast. A little TLC & better signage might help. Looks like a great place to hang out with friends & hear live music or watch games in bar area. Definitely has potential.
MoreTheir breakfast was super good and good portions . This was the first time I tried them as I was visiting my sister and lady owner was super sweet , nice and a pleasure to talk to
MoreThe nicest staff I think Ive ever met. Great tri-tip, and the Philly was phenomenal, it was just an all around great place. Im glad we stopped here on our road trip.
MoreHad a great breakfast and an excellent Bloody Mary the prices were reasonable and the portions generous I would definitely recommend this place
MoreWe had a wonderful experience. I can’t believe I had never gone to this place. The waitress and seemingly the owner were very friendly. The food was really good. We were looking for a new place to try and were hesitant because we never heard of this place even though we drove by it all the time. But we were pleasantly surprised and will be back. Also I can’t comment on how surprised I am that they got my bacon right. It is extremely rare that someone takes my extra crispy bacon request seriously LOL it actually was crispy 🙌🏻
MoreOrdered the "Panda Wings" and the "Volcano Burger." Wasnt too thrilled by the wings, since I was expecting a lot more than just plain ol buffalo wings after reading that whole page of lore concerning the Panda Wings and their origins. The burger was fantastic, though. Cooked well with a great flavor. Most definitely one of my favorite spicy burgers in Turlock and I would not hesitate to order it again. If I can sneak one point of criticism: since the doors were propped open, there really wasnt much difference between the inside and the outside. It kinda messed with the experience and Ill leave it at that. All that aside, though, I loved the burger and hope to get it again soon!
MoreDont Judge a book bye its cover. Absolutely wonderful service. Food was delicious with giant portions. Super funky old school out dated gem. We loved having mimosas at breakfast, plenty of seating. Fast service. If you want updated and fancy with no charm go to a chain restaurant where you can go in every town. We love this place definitely will come back
MoreOrdered the Fish and Chips. Delicious!!I have never been disappointed. The fries...sooo good. Highly recommend dining at The Grizzly Rock Cafe. They have a full bar too. Check their calendar for live music.Good food, cocktails, cold beer and good music. Life is good!!
MoreHonestly I have nothing nice to say about my experience and neither do the friends that joined me. It really doesnt even deserve 1 star. All of the food between a party of 10 was awful (not even kidding Everything literally tasted like a campfire. Like it was just smoked wood that we were eating. 3 of us ordered a rack of ribs which comes with a side but for some reason we waited like 20 to 30 min for our side of fries🤔 We had to ask about 3 times for them. There was only one waitress which is understanding since there were only maybe 2 small tables other than our party. She didnt check on us as often as you would need other than for refills. There was a molded twist tie in the bottom of one of our glasses as well. Should have taken the hint of it looking closed as a sign not to eat there.🤦🏼♀️ We did our best not to put it on the waitress because its not her fault for the food issue so we did tip her but we will definitely not be going back
MoreI love dives. This qualifies.Rustic chic defying all boundaries. Is it western? Is it antique? Is it throwback 70’s?All styles are mixed. My pregnant waitress got my jokes, that’s huge. (No one gets THAT joke).Service was excellent. Food followed suit. And that Bloody Mary? Holy cow.I felt like a king.Well done, people. Well done. Will be back.
MorePretty cool atmosphere. A band was playing on a Sunday nite which was a pleasant surprise. I was meeting someone for the first time and this was the perfect place. You can enjoy a good meal with a cocktail if you chose. We had a cocktail and listened to some good dancing music.
MoreOur first time coming here, we live nearby so figured we could try a new place. I had the King George Benedict and a loaded bloody mary. Girlfriend had the Benedict Omar and a bloody Mary, both were amazing. Prime rib was seasoned expertly and both the tri tip and prime rib were thinly cut and tender. Would definitely come back again! Thank you to Brittany for being so awesome as well! 😊
MoreOk - I used to go here all the time with good experiences, but I moved a town over so hadnt had a reason to visit in a few years. While out and about it came up as a late night option. We pulled in the parking lot and I got the distinct impression of a From Dusk Till Dawn Vibe going on. The outside gates were locked with chains but the sign said open, the side door was lit with people visible through the glass doors and music was clearly playing, but a chair blocked those doors from opening. I took off from there like the kind of person that doesnt want to experience a horror movie.
MoreSince covid you can tell this place is not frequented as it formerly was but have to say food was great and our waitress was outstanding. Very attentive, pleasant and it is just refreshing to interact with someone who enjoys their job. Will return
MoreFriendly waitresses, cozy atmosphere, large portions, clean, good music playing that isnt to loud to be annoying or interfere with conversation. I really enjoy the fries, which are never soggy & are seasoned just right. If you are really hungry, my son recommends the chilli burger! They have great breakfasts too.
MoreGreat food. Friendly service. More like home cooking than any other place weve been. So far everything Ive had has been good. I never eat fish at restaurants since I had a bad experience with catfish. But Frank convinced me to try it and I was not disappointed. Great little place to go.
MoreMy wife and I come here bi weekly for the state of Jefferson meetings, We enjoy their mushroom marinara spaghetti dinner- we order the salad without croutons and get raspberry balsamic vinegar and then the salad is vegan they have a decent beer list however they seem to run out often of the better beers. The waitresses and waiters are friendly and helpful.
MoreThis is the place that a lot of people dont know about but they should! Frank and Gail are the nicest people and the food is great! You could eat every meal here and still have options to choose from. Its definitely a comfort food place and we love the woodsy atmosphere.
MoreI have always loved this place. The owners are such awesome people. I like them so much I call the owner Uncle Frank haha. The food is seriously amazing. The bar is kick back and chill. They have an outside bar as well where several different kegs are tapped waiting for your glass. Also has and outside stage area with plenty of standing room and seating to view the different varieties of music and comedy shows held on specific weekends. Aside from being a bar, the restaurant opens bright and early for breakfast. I personally recommend their chicken fried steak with gravy and hash browns Bomb. Overall this place has 5 stars coming from this guy. Its a shame not too many people know of this place because of the location right off Taylor exit. But if people would give it a chance theyd fall in love with how homey and welcoming the place is. Come on everyone support this place and show up for breakfast during the week and grab a few beers with the boys or the girls on Saturday nights! Its worth it!
MoreService was a little slow, but we were not in much of a hurry as we were a large group. I believe our waitress was a bit new, but we were very patient with her. The two older staff were very nice and accomadating. Good food. It was awfully quiet for a Friday evening, but was perfect for quality with our friends. Had a couple of drinks. Needed to have an idea of what you wanted to drink ahead of time for alcoholic beverages as the bar was in the next room. Wine list and general beer list was provided.
MoreI like this place because the owners are nice. The food is good. And the beer is good. Actually the best 805 Ive had has been from here. I normally dislike that beer because it tastes mousey. But not here! And they tolerate my friends and I as we play Magic: The Gathering on occasional Monday and Tuesday nights.
MoreGood all you can eat Mexican food for $10. Just call ahead. Not sure if its daily. Enjoy! Nice bartenders and music.
MoreThis place has a great atmosphere thanks to kind and welcoming owners. Food was great as well as craft beers. My wife couldnt decide which beer to order and the lady just brought a small sample for her along with my beer. So nice. Really recommend to anybody who is nearby. I wish to return sometimes.
MoreWhat a great dinner everything at our table looked great. They even asked if we wanted more frys.
MoreI love this bar! Food is really good, very reasonable prices. Waitresses are always smiling and helpful. The owner is usually there and super cool. Also great draft beer selection. Its a little run down, but that doesnt bother me any. Very welcoming environment.
MoreLittle ran down shabby sheik. The service isnt the greatest but the food makes up for it.
MoreCant say enough good things about this place. In general its your mom n pop diner with above average food. Portion sizes are huge, and food is very flavorful and homemade in taste. Large selection and variety. This place is hidden on the edge of Turlock and when you look at it youll wonder if its even still open. Only bad thing I could say is that they need to light it up better at night to make it more visible. Once inside its clean, even if the decor is a little odd.Restaurant or bar area is great. Both have polite and quick service. Great place to eat with the family in the restaurant, or to go grab and drink and a bite with friends in the bar.
MoreVery good food. My family had the burger, hot dog and the garlic butter pasta. Excellent food and excellent service. We are definitely going back. They were so nice I never realized they were just waiting for us to finish to close, we never felt pressure to leave. We are definitely going back for the bottomless mimosas during breakfast.
