Greifinn - Restaurant in Akureyri, Iceland
Large menu, great food and service.
Wonderful place to eat. The food was fantastic. I had Grilled Lamb, best I’ve tried. We did have an incident where my wife started getting sick (not related to this restaurant but she already came in with a bit of nausea from whale watching), the attendants were superb in attending her and offering help. I am deeply grateful for their kind help. And also appreciate much the fantastic food, though we could not finish at the restaurant we were able to enjoy later at the cottage. Thanks again.
All the food had burned taste, total garbage food for crazy money. The stuff is nice, polite and gave discount. Unfortunately the quality of dishes was bad. It seems like the owner thinks about the money not about the quality of the food
Great food, the mushroom soup was incredible and they also have a bread and salad buffet. The lunch is a lot less expensive so if you can, stop by and experience their fine cuisine.
Terrible place, food was bad and expensive. They got me something I didn’t order which was more expensive and also charged me for it. Got a coke in glass with ice like the one in burgerking and it was disgusting.
We were 8 people just to dinner. Easy to book a table and an incredible food, traditional dishes, pizzas or hamburgers. An excellent experience. Highly recommendable.
I asked for a table for two, employees said the wait would be 10-15 minutes and asked me to sit down. About 9 minutes go by and another customer walks in and asks for a table for two, the employee said sure no problem and gave that person a table when we were sitting practicly next to the staff and they offered us no table. I left...
Looks like very popular place among locals, which is usually good sign. Prices are like everywhere in Iceland, for non Scandinavian or Swiss its really expensive :for 4 person dinner without alcohol we paid around 250€. We ordered dishes marked as local, cod hash, salted cod and lamb, all dishes were great and really fulfilling. I would say its highly recommended place ;by the way from the locals we found out, that they are famous because of their pizza, however we didnt order them, but on other tables pizzas looked nice, as well a lot of people came to take them away.
This iconic place in Akureyri has seen better days, the prices have gone up while the quality has gone down. Still, the childrens menu is good and the service as well. Suggest you go for the pizzas rather than the burgers, you can get those at the nearest gas station for third of the price.
The cauliflower soup was cooked to perfection. The cauliflower was tender and melted in the mouth. The cream sauce was delectable and reminded me of a home cooked meal.If in need for Icelandic comfort food at anytime of year, most certainly stop by and order the soup.
The cauliflower soup was simply delightful. It was paired with a generous helping of baguettes and butter. There was also the opportunity to season with garlic oil, or salt and pepper to taste.
Lobster soup was good, the rest was mediocre. Nice waitresses
Awesome food, quick and helpful staff and over all verry nice. A large menu that made me want to stay in Akureyri longer, just to sample more items. Highly recommend a visit.
Excellent food, superb service.
Great lobster soup, but rest like hashed fish and arch are average comparing to other places
bullfighter pizza had a good use of bernaise sauce. don’t really understand the prices..
Big menu with lots of delicious options! I had the local cod dish and it was excellent. Also tried the lamb and it was tender and perfectly cooked.Large and busy location. Friendly staff that were very helpful.
Keto Birger. It is something amazing and very deliciuos. Ive ordered with extra beef+coleslav+chilli mayo sauce. But normally the portion is so big(without my extrass). Id like to warmly recommend this dish and also whole restaruant. Staff were very nice and polite. Obviously everybody speak english well.
It is a good place, go here every time I visit Akureyri, but over the years the taste and overall quality of the food has gone down.
My comment may be out of date, but i really miss the taste of this local pizza. The memories took me back in here to leave this comment.I was touring the iceland in 2019/2020 and it was very first Day of New year. The restaurant was neverthelss open like no other in the city. I stepped by to eat some warm dish and ordered a pizza. What i received was literally Once in the life Time experience. The Best pizza i ever eaten! Personally i think the chances to beat that quality level is nearly impossible. I really wish one Day i would eat pizza as good as one i ate there. 11/10
The lobster soup and lobster pizza are very delicious! The lamb steak is also well grilled. The sauce came with the lamb steak is a little bit too salty... But maybe thats my fault that I put too much sauce on the potato...
The service was really good and the food solid. We both had a steak and shared the chicken wings. Wings were OK but the steak was very well cooked but pricey for its size.
Lovely food, great service and full tables! Definitely worth a visit! Bernaise burger was amazing
Awesome service, food came out fast and was very very delicious. I recommend this place to everyone who goes through Akureyri.
We liked the cod and hashed fish
We had to wait around 20-30 minutes to get seated. Is that bad? No. It was full, and for good reasons.Dishes were excellent and portions were generous. The menu has something for everyone: starters, pizzas, fish, meat, vegan, ...We had 3 starters (3 at the price of twothat were delicious, and the portions were almost enough to close the dinner there. But no, we went further, embraced by exquisite parfumes.Traditional Hashed Fish is like Plokkfiskur. Absolutely magnificent. I went for tenderloin: superb. But the sizes... we had to give up the desserts, but, anyways, we were happy. What about the service? Staff was very friendly and helpful even with therestaurant full. Quick and always with a smile!
Excellent food, had the steak and it was really good and perfectly cooked. However, there is a "canteen" atmosphere there and you could not have a decent conversation with you friends and family.
i must say i am perplexed by this. the service was good and some would say that would constitute a higher rating, but i disagree.the service cant be the defining feature for a higher rating.the food is most important, and bad food just cant be reprimanded by the service.I ordered their best steak, medium rare.I was really looking for a bloody steak straight of the fire, but instead i got something that tasted like something straight out of the pan. not the grilled steak i was longing for all day. i would not recommend getting your steak from here. sorry.btw also crazy expensive the steak cost 70 dollars and it just wasnt what I hoped it to be.
Best Pizzas in the whole of Iceland. Try the 9" Stallone Pizza. Nice place, very family friendly as its the locals most popular place to goto with the kids. But its also classy in a way. The business is old and they have maintained certain standard that you can always count on.
This is a really nice place. The portions were quite big and the quality and make-craft of the food was amazing. Everything we ate was delicious.
Very cosy place... the ribs were fantastic... the roma pizza is very good also... family friendly restaurant... there is a place where kids can play in... 3000plus for a pizza, 4000plus for the ribs... free parking...
Lots of choice for different dieters - our delegation included vegetarian, keto, etc (also childrenand everyone had nice range of options. I had a duck salad and it was delicious and the portion size was good. Because its family friendly, its loud and a bit messy. Nevertheless I would come back!
Took a chance on the mixed reviews and had one of the best lambs of my life. Very juicy and tender. The Arctic Char was also delicious. It seems to be a popular spot for locals so make sure to call ahead beforehand.
Went to this place after reading some mixed reviews and ended up loving it. I strayed from their classic pizza and burgers reviews and ordered their Arctic Char and it was delicious. It was packed but was still seated in less than 2 minutes, and the food arrived quickly. Our waiter was very attentive and kind so if I ever return to this beautiful country will definitely visit again!
Greifinn restaurant. Its been here for years. Had dinner here many times. Tried most meat dishes. Also the fish which is very good. Price high, portions are small. But please note the flavor is always good. Fries below standard.
Grilled lamb is outstanding and draft beer (the lager oneis wonderful. Not to mention the staffs are really kind. Definitely a restaurant worth visiting!
We stopped by this town for 1 night and head to here for dinner. The food is good and service is good too. But I think I should have ordered the most popular dish here, which is pizza or burger. But the char is good.
A popular and busy venue, popular with the locals. Good range of local, traditional and international foods. I had the oven baked char and it was lovely. Also had hot wings. Not as Id had before, but very nice. Recommended.
Nice atmo but quite expensive. Double decker burger top notch but Hot Wings a big... no sorry... HUGE disappointment.
We had a pleasant night at the Greifinn. Waiting time was 5 Minutes - which was good as it was one of the few restaurants open on the first day of the year. Restaurant has a service bell, you just push the button and genie eh the server appears. Worked well! Waiting time for the food was a bit too long, but to be fair the restaurant was full. Pizza was good, nothing special but ok and crispy. Viking beer was great - thats the local beer from the town and wow - it tastes really good!! Try them both.
Great food severing burger, pasta, pizza, beef, chicken and many things with exotic family atmosphere.
Pretty popular restaurant. Good menu with lots of options. Very tasty food and good value. Service was friendly and efficient. Liked the vibe of this busy restaurant. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed eating here. If you stick to the fish based dishes and skip the burgers and pizzas then the prices are not even that bad. The hashed cod is great and apparently a traditional Icelandic dish. The Arctic Char (a type of Salmonis also good. There is parking available on site. However it can be pretty busy.
Lots of pizzas, burgers and cheesy appetizers, along with other mains I didnt look closely at. We had the arctic char with broccoli, which was very good, and a couple pizzas, which were yummy. (Vegan cheese is available, as are bananas as a topping -- thats a new one for me.Had a couple of delicious dessserts: the apple pie and the incredible warm chocolate cake, each with a small scoop of ice cream and some blueberries and strawberries. A tag team of polite servers helped us, and the kitchen accommodated a couple of substitutions which was very nice. Nice warm ambience. Reasonable prices. Had to ask for the check and paid at the bar.
I was there for a private party and buffet. The food was fantastic - every single item would qualify as a standout dish at most restaurants. Absolutely terrific.
A great place to bring the family. It serve a wide variety of food so everyone should find something. I would recommend the cheese sticks as a starter.
The wings were great. Standard buffalo wings with a nice creamy blue cheese dressing on the side. I had the Pepperoni Festa pizza which was really good. The pepperoni was really small slices and it was cooked perfectly. Very nice decor and a good staff. One of the better meals in Akureyri with a moderate price point, comparatively.
Lets be honest no one reads 4,3 or 2 star reviews but this place doesnt deserve 1 or 5. Its a run of the mill diner. Its got a good selection of pizzas, burgers and mains. But thats about it. The milkshakes arent anything to write home about, the chips/French fries are served far too salty and the pulled pork burger with sweet onions I found far too sweet. The chicken burger was actually quite good and the staff were lovely. Theres a small car park outside which is useful and its a calm and pleasant atmosphere inside. As expected the cost is typical Iceland if youre comparing it to back home.
Probably one of my top five meals I had in Iceland. The prices were reasonable considering Icelandic baseline price. The staff were very friendly and answered all of our questions. The food was great as well. It may not be traditional Icelandic but it was delicious nonetheless. A short walk to downtown makes it even better. Would highly recommend.
They have great pizza! You can get it to your door as well if you want to, but you can also eat it at the restaurant. Greifinn has a tendency to get new owners so their menu changes frequently, but the food is never bad. Ive never gotten anything thats downright nasty there and Ive been there often :)THEIR CHOCOLATE CAKE IS HEAVENLY 😍 Highly recommend it! And Ive had ribs once and they were perfect. They also have great appetizers (garlic pizza, etc.).So if youre going out to eat with friends or family, Id highly recommend it. It has a cozy atmosphere and its not too expensive :)
