This Archeological site is simply impressive. So fascinating and mysterious the way that this acient fort is realised. The view from the top of the hill is stunning.Let me add anyway, to be the biggest Archeological site in southern Africa, they way this site is run is scandalous: poor indications, poor care of the paths, poor cleanliness, plus we paid for a guided tour never provided. The museum is quite poor, not even provided with a proper illumination and staff quite unmotivated.Hoping for a substantial improvement.

I am in absolute awe at the beauty of this place. Ive never been more prouder to be a Zimbabwean and have this majestic structure as part of our history and culture. A lot of effort has been made to preserve this monument and it shows. The tour guide shared amazing details of the site and made the entire experience so much more memorable. Ill definitely visit again.

The monuments are amazing! Huge, thick and tall. No cement either. The bathrooms and museum werent good though. The museum was missing lots of lights so some of the displays were very hard to see and the bathrooms were digusting. No card machines either so bring cash, just in case. So if your here only for the stone monuments, this is the place for you!

Our guide Love more whom we christened Ravhumowo gave us scintillating account of the history of this magnificent civilization. He took us up the ancient path into the royal enclosure and every royal chamber explaining the nature and purpose of each. We even went into the royal cave where we megaphoned to the great enclosure. We ambled down the modern path to the museum past the abattoir to the titillating and tantalising great enclosure and its fertility symbolisms. Down the middle and valley enclosures to the Shona village. It was a worthwhile exhilarating bot exciting 4 hour tour. This is truly a must see for every citizen of this planet.

Great Zimbabwe is one of our show piece tourist destinations with deep links to our history. Tucked away in the hills next to Lake Mutarikwe and about 27km east of Masvingo the Ruins are a lovely place to visit. There are a number of hotels and B&B close to the Ruins. Also tourist guides to walk with you and show you round as well as give you information on the Ruins.Advisable to take hats, walking shoes and a bottle of water to climb the hill and to walk the Great Enclosure and its satellite ruins.Take a lunch box and spend the day wondering around! Enjoy!!

The Ancient city {Great Zimbabwe} is a Monument,(Residue of a time passed, a life once lived, a moment in past time captured and left for the rest of the world to seea structure that is evidence of an intelligent society. Its construction (stone upon stone upon stoneand the reality that it still stands regardless of all potential dangers is testimony of the ingenuity of this Once Great Community, thriving, trading etc. {It is rumoured that King Solomon [From the Bible] once visited this place for Gold and Mineral trades} It was built to stand throughout time though it is not exactly as it was we are still able to see its magnificence! The science behind the architecture should have been beyond their time but who am l to say otherwise because they did it and today l am able to say "Ive seen and felt what the archaeologist see/feel when they visit/uncover/unravel/unearth such ancient sites (around the world)" .

I have been there four times but always feels like its the first time. The stunning stonework makes you reimagine African history. Hundreds of years later this timeless work of art continues to epitomizes the greatness of this land and her people. I enjoy every moment and will cherish every trip to GZ all the days of my life.

A great UNESCO site in Zimbabwe showcasing the history and culture of ancient Zimbabwean civilisations. Be sure to get a guide or you will miss out on a lot of the information you need to get the most out of the site. You can get a combi (local vansfrom Masvingo to about 2km from the main site or you could grab a taxi.

I loved this place. It does not look or feel like a Fort. Based on my experience with ceremony and ceremonial spaces this site is an incredible resonance chamber with a natural womb entrance. The resonances from the bottom circles when the school children sang there resonated right through the Eastern facing hill ceremonial space. When you sit either in the cave or in the area in front of it you have real surround sound. Drumming on the sand in front of the cave resounded everywhere absolutely incredible. I would recommend a visit here for anyone interested in a significant spiritual experience.

Zimbabwe’s troubled political situation has overshadowed the development of this southern African nation as a tourist hub. But the medieval city which gave its name to the country is among Africas most compelling sights. It’s believed that Great Zimbabwe was originally built as a royal palace for a local monarch. Its dry stone walls towered five meters high and the city they enclosed could comfortably accommodate 18000 people.

A magnificent structure which really shows the ingenuity of ancient Zimbabwe construction and engineering. From the amazing stonework with well chiseled blocks and winding foot paths in the hills to that awesome view on top of the mountain; this precolonial marvel has so much more to give. A must-visit!

The ingenuity of the builders of period within which the monument was built baffles many an architect and designer. This is a strategic masterpiece that has stood the test of time. The fort worked well as a defence establishment during wartime.

The Great Zimbabwe Monuments are an amazing work of architecture done by an ancient Zimbabwean Kingdom without outside assistance. It is estimated that the construction work of the city took almost five centuries (10th to 15th centuryand 8 kings to complete. But sadly it took some arrogant white men less than 30 years in the 20th century to destroy when they were now empty as they searched for treasure.I stay 3 km away from the monuments. They are still a majestic, mythical and majical place to visit. It takes me almost two hours to do the whole tour from the Hill complex to the great enclosure. We know it popularly as Dzimba Dzemabwe, and it still holds many unexplored myths like the sacred cave in the kings sisters room that was sealed off by the white plunderers after many disappeared into it. I live in the area and it still recieves way more than average rainfall (compared to other places nearby, e.g. Masvingo City), suggesting the mystery and showing the reason why the site was selected.ITS A PLACE TO VISIT.

Entrance is $15 or $18 with a guide. Definitely get the guide and tip afterwards. Such a wonderful hike around the ruins. There are rondavels and lodges you can stay in for $20-$40 (add $10 if a coupleon site. They are decent but a far better lodging option is Lake Mutirikwe Lodge about 9km down the road towards the lake. $45 for a massive rondavel with three bedrooms (one double bed, two singles). Its right on the lake as well. They will prepare you a basic meal for $7 each, or rather go to Norma Jeans or Lodge at the Ancient City for proper though somewhat expensive restaurants. There is actually a very cheap restaurant at the ruins open 6 am - 8 pm but I didnt try it.
