Great Wall Restaurant in Sanford
Description
Privilege
Edible, however the other reviews were correct. Just not it. Not the worst, but the sesame chicken tasted like ketchup and a little bit of bbq sauce. Did not like it at all, but edible if your hungry and low on funds. I take food risks so you dont have to. I also have a backup plan and did indeed have to go next door to Montego Bay Jamaican and actually eat some food I liked the taste of. Was my first choice but had to wait an half hour for them to finish cooking. This made me take the chance on the Chinese. You will wait!
MoreJust a good chinese food option. They get the job done. Best egg rolls in Sanford, that is a fact.
MoreI dont eat Chinese food
Absolutely dissatisfied! The sesame chicken plate is not any sesame chicken (specifically the sauce), Ive ever tasted or seen in any Chinese restaurant... The portion of seafood in a seafood specified fried rice plate is discouraging... If I wanted just rice and a piece of shrimp, Im sure I would have ordered just that but instead asked for shrimp fried rice and was given 6 shrimps in a plate full of rice! I will not be ordering or spending my money at this particular restaurant nor will I suggest it to family, friends, or strangers looking for a filling and tasteful meal!
MoreI thought the food was awesome - fresh - hot and I wanted more - portions were good - price was very fair - going back tonight for dinner - take out - Love this place!!
MoreSince reading so many negative reviews I had to write a genuine review. I’ve ordered twice here in the past month and each time the food is hot while fresh and delicious! We ordered the orange chicken and General Tso‘s chicken combos. The fried rice for the dinner portion is huge and a meal in itself. My favorite fried rice in the area. The vegetables they use are crisp and you can tell fresh. I took pictures after we ate and that’s how much leftover we had left. We picked our order up and was ready in 10 mins. I’m skeptical of so many bad reviews being one person taking advantage of leaving negative reviews for a bad experience. Two dinner combos with fried rice and eggs roll came to just $20. This establishment servers Authentic and delicious New York style Chinese food please try it out and find out for yourself!!
MoreThe least amount of over fried chicken Ive gotten in FL
omg if I could take it back for a refund. I would!! chicken undercooked and the noodles were over cooked. just not good at all!!!!
MoreI ordered shrimp fried rice for my neighbor last night, Mrs. S. said it tasted disgusting. She said the shrimp were small about 6 total in the order and little else except some old stale tasting rice. I took it back, because I go there often, to see if they would offer compensation. She offered non! She was acting like she had spent HER money for TERRIBLE food. She said, "We very busy, dont buy anymore" Needless to say I will NEVER. And I will dispute the charge on my card.
MoreThe dessert was memorable. Service was perfect.
I dont know what happened months ago because I see a lot negative reviews on this place so today I decided to take a chance and go there for lunch because I want Chinese rice because I love Chinese food and I order Spare Ribs boneless and rice. OMG I cant believe it was so delicious. I am puertorican guy boricua and we love Chinese rice in PR and to find a place here that do the rice and everything like PR Chinese food is really difficult. I dont know why people put negative feed back on this place. The food is for take out only. I like a lot so I give them 5 stars and 200% delicious. The rices was really good and the spare ribs boneless good. 😋
MoreFirst time going. Thought something different. Got it home and there was a long hair in my food wrapped around the chicken. Just gotta say gross
MoreThis place is fantastic. The food is ready fast, and its always hot and correct. Its also delicious! Best Chinese place around.
MoreI should have listened to the reviews but I like trying things for myself. In this case, the reviews were definitely correct!!!!. Just moved to Sanford. My usual Chinese place is further and tried this place which was closer to me. The food came fast. But when I got home the order was wrong. I did not check it before leaving. I ordered white rice with my chicken and broccoli and repeated it 2x. The fried rice seemed old and the chicken was not that good and like in other reviews was chewy. So disappointing. I ended up throwing it out. Never again coming here.
MoreIf you want to eat hot steamy garbage order here. My food tasted like reheated leftovers from last week
MoreThe food was hot and ready to order but the meat was very chewey. I was looking for authentic and I didn’t get that from here. I would have preferred Panda Express which is sad because I wanted great authentic food. My first and last time here. Didn’t even like the chicken friend rice. I can’t explain the meat….I should have listened to the reviews but I always like to give a place the benefit of the doubt because bad reviews come before good. This place was not what I would I have liked it to be. Portion size is good but taste of food is not of my families or friends liking.
MoreHorrible, and watch what you are charged. I was over charged $2.25... the foods not fresh tainted, and handled poorly, the girl at window handling money and food ,not sanitary... bare hands ..
MoreCalled in a order and while asking for no onions the man answering the phone said in broken English "I hate when Motherf/@×ers order difficult $h%t". I immediately canceled my order and will never be back! Looking at other reviews this seems to be a trend.
MoreFirst of all I just wanted white rice and she gave me fried rice. I didnt want their fried rice because I tasted something nasty from there about 6 months ago, which i said that Ill never go back. However, I figure how can they mess up white rice. Then she gave me a counterfeit $10.00 for change and I gave it back and made her give me another bill. I still might call Secret Service on them.
MoreCheck your order before you leave the restaurant. Gave me half of my order and lied and said they gave me everything!!!! Very disappointed
MoreI have been getting take out for many years from Great Wall and they have never disappointed me. The food is served hot and very tasty. So happy to continue to give them my business.
Morecustomer service is the worst.the lady who attends is mediocre when attending. If I could give it less than one star I would.
MoreThe worst place Ive ever dealt with. The woman on the phone hung up because she would not take my order the way I asked
MoreIts very mediocre but its the closest one to me.Do do not order the sesame chicken it taste like ketchup.I just eat the chicken wings & my kids eat the wonton soup.
MoreTheir very rude, and the food wasnt good. I would stay away if I were you.
The young lady working the counter is rude and she doesn’t like to give you your change back. People of color please don’t spend your money here when asked about my change she replied your people can’t count !!
MoreVery rude customer service. Was hung up on twice and was told couldn’t make an order over the phone. Was looking for a new Chinese place because I’m new to the area and this place will not be it. Disappointing, their food could be good but won’t find out due to the way I was treated just off of a phone call.
MoreThis restaurant used to be high quality at a good price, unfortunately after covid-19 the quality has plundered oh, and the price is elevated oh, unfortunately I will not be eating at this particular place any longer
MoreHORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! They clearly have forgotten that the CUSTOMERS ARE THE REASON THEY ARE STILL OPEN!!! They talk to you like they don’t even want to be bothered!!If I could give negative 5 stars I would!!! The older woman who answers the phone to take orders is EXTREMELY RUDE!! While placing my order she constantly tried to rush me. Even when asking a simple question about the sizes they offer for shrimp and broccoli. I asked to place a second order and she says “ what you mean second order…. Do it quickly!!” I replied “excuse me” she says “ I mean what you want?”At that point I was shocked. She literally YELLED AT ME AGAIN saying “HURRY UP! ORDER ORDER”!!! I told her to “just forget it”. This is the last time I will ever order from here! And my parents have been ordering from here since I was a kid!! So that tells you how much money has been spent at this establishment over the years!!If you look at the picture I posted…we were literally on the phone for 1 minute and she was THAT IMPATIENT & HOSTILE!!!!
MoreSo happy that this place is open again. Have been trying to find a substitute since they closed from the pandemic and wasnt able to. So happy they are back in business. Food is always good. Reminds me of the great wall Chinese restaurant that we used to go back home in NY.
MoreZERO STARS: lady behind counter took down guys order wrong. I heard him place the order. He comes to pick it up when ready and it’s completely wrong. He tells her that’s not what I ordered and I’d like to get what I ordered. She told him no and asked him pay $28. He walked away. (She seemed nastier to POC by the white guy in front of me- I am white by the way). That upset me so bad that when she called me for my order I told her to keep it and she was so rude!
MoreDecided to try this place for the first time. Placed a to go order in person and had the lady repeat back for accuracy. Once I got home with my order come to find that the beef and broccoli order I bought was a shrimp and broccoli instead. Can’t eat shellfish, so I immediately called them back and explained that I was given a wrong meal. They refused to correct their mistake, and would only make me a correct meal if I paid for another one. She was rude over the phone and would not give a refund. Will never order from here again.
MoreThe Chinese food restaurant we normally order from has been closed recently, so we decided to give this place a try. The woman at the register was not the friendliest, but overall we got our order quickly. Once we got home and checked the food, we realized we had been given the wrong order. When we called and asked to have the order replaced with what we asked for originally, the woman refused to replace it and refused to give us a refund. Will not be ordering from here again :(
MoreIve been trying to give this restaurant a chance every year or so for the last decade. The only thing consistent about this place was that every year food got worse as prices went up every single order. They even look at you sideways when you ask for a detailed receipt. It went from poor food to food that I questioned the origin of, things that you know should taste like what theyre supposed to be but they have strange tastes also coming through. Other food tasted like it was from the refrigerator for a couple of weeks. Things that were crispy were soggy, things that should be soft were hard. To be honest, I had a much more delicious lunch back in January when I went to panda express, which says a lot, and I grew up in New York with New York Chinese food. Trust me, this isnt New York Chinese food. Its not only not New York, but Im even questioning the Chinese aspect of it. I used to live a relatively short drive away from China Garden on 436 and 50, and I miss that so much, what is the best in Orlando eye dont know how many years in a row. Its too far now, unfortunately. Im going to stick with panda because if anything, its fresh. I just wish some decent Chinese restauranteur would open a real good Chinese restaurant anywhere within a 20 mile radius of this place that was so good I wouldnt mind taking the drive once in a while. Ive eaten New York Chinese food so many years in New York that I know what it supposed to taste like, and I guess its now a curse that I do. As if things couldnt get worse, there hasnt been any staff in over the last dozen years Ive been trying this place that I could even call pleasant. This is some of the rudest staff I have ever encountered anywhere in any type of restaurant.
MoreThe food always tastes good, the people are nice and it reminds me of back home in NY. Fast paced and busy! Great food and price! My go-to is always General Tso Chicken
Moreive gotten food delivered 3x from them. always BOMB food and amazing service. the free delivery over $15 is unbeatable, and they deliver hot, fresh food in the time it takes other Chinese restaurants just to cook the order. Great Wall is my new go-to for my Chinese food cravings in Sanford!! highly recommend.
MoreFirst time I went to this place I was extremely skeptical cuz I dont see many people frequent this place, now I see why... I ordered fried wings with shrimp fried rice. My rice had maybe 3 shrimp total. They also had pre cooked wings just sitting on the counter in a big metal pan, Lord knows how long they had been sitting out. And it was from this pan that they were picking wings and dropping them in the fryer... They also had the front door propped open so flies were swarming all over the kitchen. Staff can be not so friendly... The girl in the front seems to pick and choose who she wants to be friendly to... But really what can you expect, its Sanford! ...My advice, bypass this place, I wouldnt feed this slop to my dog!!!
MoreOMG. DRYYYYYY LO MEIN. EGG ROLLS THAT ARE NOT EGG ROLLS. ugh in trying to be different they really dropped the ball. I dont know if its just me but when I order from a Chinese place I am expecting that certain taste. Unfortunately I guess theyve tried to stand out from the rest and believe me they DO. And its farrrrrr from being a good thing. Dont ruin your appetite please.
MoreI had to change my rating, like another reviewer states, this places quality has gone down and the prices have gone up. Not to mention, whoever answers the phone needs to learn that when a customer is finished ordering, it is common courtesy to let the customer know their total and end the call with a thank you or goodbye, not just hang up on people.
MoreMy old grandma was ordering food and the lady said it was going to be $50. We cancelled and I called order the food. The lady hung up on me. I called back again on my phone and I said I would like to place a new order. I gave her the addresss and she said you already cancelled and I said yes and I would like to place a new order and then continued to give me attitude. My total, for the same things my grandma order, came out to be $20. Explain that.
MoreVery small portions, we ordered fried rice, pepper steak with with egg rolls. Taste good but very little steak mostly all vegetables. Portions super small. We work hard for our money it’s not fair to have such small amounts of food served.
MoreShrimp lo mein was foul smelling, shrimp was rubbery in texture. Egg drop and wonton soup, very bland. Dumplings were old and tough. Spent $50 on food, when called and complained was told nobody else complained about the food, and then proceeded to hang up on me. Will never spend my money here again.
MoreI have been a customer for 8 years , always leaving a sweet tip. In the past 2 years their food quality has declined. The broth in the Wanton soup, along with the lack of ingredients was disappointing. The lunch shrimp with lobster sauce did not have much sauce or shrimp. I dont know what changed with management. The store was better before !!!!!
MoreI got the PuPu Platter. I’ve had pupu platters at lots of Chinese places but this one was pretty bad. There were things in there that I just did not recognize. The beef on the stick had a really weird flavor and while I tried to swollow it I had to just spit it out into a napkin. The shrimp and other things were shriveled up and really over cooked. It’s sad that we paid for a meal and the highlight of the meal was the white rice. I could’ve made my own white rice and spent less money.
MoreLovely dinner from start to finish! Mushroom soup was excellent. Escargot dish was very tasty. Lamb was wonderful. The cozy ambiance certainly added to our enjoyment. The dessert was memorable. Service was perfect.
MoreAs a former New Yorker, this place was TERRIBLE! I went here several years ago, and it was mediocre to poor at best, but recently, the woman at the counter alerted me to the fact that the restaurant is under new management, which would account for the quality sinking further down to "irreparable." First, General Tso and Sesame Chicken are the SAME, with one just getting a few dried chiles thrown into the sauce and the other sprinkled with untoasted sesame seeds. The meat itself is like all breading, like corndogs the size of superballs that have been left out for a few hours and refrigerated for a few days. The low mein has NEVER been remarkable, as it was one of the worst things I recall ordering from Great Wall -- just a funky taste that doesnt belong in a lo mein dish. Shrimp eggrolls rolls are just spring rolls with 3 baby shrimp stuffed in them -- save your money. Its ALL WHITE inside, as if there is only 2 ingredients inside, like some kind of funky tasteless cabbage. The shrimp egg foo young keeps getting its sauce changed, always for the worst, and it has always arrived without being properly drained of the juice/water it has been cooked in, and RUINS the bottom two patties by sogging up all the onions and the flavor goes out of it while making the eggs soggy. I tried chicken and cashews (tastes like its been in the fridge for a week), beef/broccoli (questionable meat), garlic chicken (wheres the GARLIC?), mushu pork (PLEASE DONT EVEN ATTEMPT THIS, AS ITS LOADED WITH HARD FUNKY CABBAGGE), kungpo chicken (terrible taste), fried shrimp in a bag (very greasy, doesnt taste fresh), ribs (dry, fatty, like dog rawhide), bonesless ribs (hard, chewy pieces of whats comes across as beef jerky bits in dried up sauce), shrimp and lobster sauce (how can you mess up THIS classic? They did. It only "looks" okay, but tastes like some things are missing and others are taking its place), and something with the word "phoenix" in it that, being a specialty, I expected too much - bland as heck. People who think this is good New York Chinese Food have defintely not eaten in good Chinese joints there as I have all my life. I think some people are easily impressed by chinese food in general, thats all. Additionally, the other people are correct -- the staff is very rude. I had to correct my order, and the lady at the front was ticked off at me, and (out of spiteleft out all the bags of noodles from my order, and I even paid for extra, after telling her how important they were for the half gallon of soup I ordered and how the soup was useless without it for us. I knew by her face she did something but couldnt figure out what it would be, and was surprised by the nerve of the act. I assume this was to make me drive back, but it was too far and we gave the soup away to a neighbor, vowing never to return (and havent). Honestly, LOTS of people here have no CHOICE but to go to Great Wall because no other Chinese restaurant in their right mind would come to that area and there are hardly ANY others around (google map it and youll see). Fortunately, I pass near the Walmart all the time and will save Chinese night for those times when I pass there and plan to try a place that is near the Burger King in the strip mall across the street right in the back of it (near CVS), as I read the food was good but the owner has on occasion been in a bad mood to complainers. The Itchigo Itchie (sp?in the Walmart Plaza has tanked in reviews, so the one near CVS/Burger King on 17-92/LakeMary Blvd will be next on the list. Oh well, perhaps the Chinese restaurant owners havent caught on yet that in the U.S.A., service and attitude is just as important as the food and can make or break the business. If that one doesnt pan out, Ill have to save chinese night for when I travel out even FURTHER from my general area, or just head to China Garden (the best I guesssomewhere near 436 and University/Colonial, in that general vicinity. Honestly? I would rather eat at Panda Express than Great Wall, so that in itself speaks volumes.
MoreI said I wouldnt visit this place again because of the last visit I had, the cook was very rude and what I ordered was tasteless. But because they are the closest chinese food place I ended up going again, this time I ordered beef and broccoli and the beef was raw and when I took it to the counter to show them and instead of asking for my money back I preferred something different and the cook argued with me, counted how many pieces of the beef Id already ate and offered me $2 back. A shame they didnt care about serving me raw meat so never again this time, they truly do not care about customers!
MoreI would not recommend this place.1 hour delivery only to be heavily disappointed.Sesame chicken - too dry, its like they just reheated itGeneral Tso chicken and shrimp - sauce is mediocre. The breading was like frozen corndog breading, but drenched in sauce.Bbq (bone and boneless- bone in was too dry, burnt on some ends. Boneless was like eating day old bits of the bone in ribs. At least it had a little bit of sauce on it.The rice was fine... thats the only good thing about it.Avoid this restaurant, even if you are desperate.
MoreAlways had great food from here. quick service and delivery as promised! They know what I want when I order and prices are fantastic for the amount of food you get! The only Chinese place in town I had to try and Im sold!
MoreI used to order from this place regularly. However last time I ordered the beef lo mein, the beef was raw. I called them and they quickly sent me another one. That one had raw beef as well. It smelled like raw beef and the strips of beef were barely cooked and still bloody. I threw the entire thing out. The first one was bad, the second one was worse. Unfortunately I wont be ordering from there again.
