Grazer’s Chop House - Chophouse restaurant in Morgantown, United States
Interesting choices on menu. Grilled brussel sprouts was a great side. Great steak. Meal a little pricey, but good.
My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner, and the experience was ok. I’m giving two stars because once they fixed my filet and cooked me a new one (I ordered medium rare and my husband ordered Pittsburgh style medium rare. They cooked mine the way he ordered his and cooked his the way I ordered mine, and then the chef sent the waiter - instead of coming out himself/herself - to debate with me about my steak. It was charred and cooked incorrectly on the outside, that’s not how it was ordered.it was delicious. The potato wedge app was ok. It was pretty bland, and so were the mashed potatoes. The spinach artichoke dip tasted good, but the spinach isn’t chopped - so with each bite you get long, stringy spinach….not the best texture. Side salad was fine - nothing to write home about. My water glass was empty for about 15 minutes or so, which in service land is an eternity. So I drank my husbands while he drank his beer. And we were the waiters only table, so our experience should have been nothing short of perfect. Very disappointed overall. It was not a meal worthy of over $100…..We won’t be going back. This review comes from someone who waited tables for over a year at an establishment that was comparable in style and cuisine.
We reserved a room for a private grad party. The food and service was good, and it was nice to be able to have a private room for our wvent
I wanted to make a reservation here to celebrate my sons graduation but getting through to a person or trying to book a reservation isnt possible from their website and/or phone line.
Very slow service with little communication. Seems like the staff was never properly trained. Was not very busy and our table was barely attended to. Nothing personal to anyone working there, but this was not the first time Ive had a bad experience here.
Several have adviced us to make reservations before eating here due to how good the food is and to expect long waits and bad service. We have tried several times over the past week to make reservations at this establishment. The phone number does not allow you to leave a message and there is no email to contact them. Since it is hard to make initial contact I’m tending to believe all other negative comments.
Service was good. Food was just ok. It is bit pricey for just an ok meal. No pop of flavor that you would expect for the dishes offered.
Usually Grazers is a great experience. Tonight was not. Terrible service, and worse manager. Waitress should not have been in that position as she could only carry one drink/food item at a time. Drinks took forever, and was not the bartender fault as other tables received theirs. I tried to go to bar to get my own drinks but the bartender wouldn’t serve me as I had a table, so our table was stuck waiting even longer. We hardly received our first round by the time the entree was out. Only a table of 5. Manager walked around as if nothing was wrong in her restaurant. My steak literally came by itself on the plate, not accompanied by greens/roasted garlic. (Roasted garlic is really good and is supposed to come with every 40 dollar steak)Overall bad experience, needs a management change and some members of wait staff need held accountable for their lack of service.
I enjoyed my time at Grazers Chop House. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable. The food was very good. I had the filet, ordered medium rare- it did come out a little more medium, but still good. My friend had the chicken she thought it was very good, large portion. The atmosphere was nice, clean and unique. The only thing to be aware of my steak does not come with sides, sides cost extra. I would recommend trying this restaurant.
Went on Valentines Day. Overbooked despite our reservations. Manager would not accommodate our reservations so we were seated at high table by front door. To be clear reservations were acknowledged but told too bad there is not a table is available.Slow service but very kind server, fire alarm went off, food sent back to get steak properly cut (medium-well was totally pink like a medium). Brussel sprouts great. Peach blueberry a la mode served WITHOUT ice cream.Manager runs a the place poorly. Food is WAY WAY OVERPRICED. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else.
Managed very poorly. Staff a little above average. Priced twice as much as meal is worth.Had reservations one month in advance but was stuck at high table by bar. Minimum flavor and sides over priced and al la carte.Never going back.
The chicken in the chicken salad was under cooked. The duck fries were not fries, but 5 or 6 large strips of potato with a little bit of cheese sprinkled on top.The burger seemed like something youd pull out of the freezer. The black and blue didnt have any bleu cheese flavor at all. Everything seemed like it was under prepared. The extra water provided was in a moldy glass bottle. The artichoke app was good.
We were looking forward to trying this restaurant and celebrate the holidays. Reservations yielded a half booth half seat table along the wall. Not crowded at all. Apps of brussels sprouts and spinach dip were delicious. Drink order took an extremely long time. Not all the meals were a disappointment. The tuna was delicious but served with half cook broccolini. The burger was served raw and the manager removed it from the bill. The service was poor. They switched servers in the middle of the meal without telling us. Im still waiting for a knife.
A great restaurant I highly recommend. Atmosphere and decor were classy and inviting. Our server was finishing with a large group as we were sat, but was very attentive to us as well. Easily one of the best steaks Ive had, and excellent appetizers. Overall, well worth the price. We will definitely be returning soon.
Brussel sprout appetizer was to die for. My black and blu burger was deliciousness, my husbands steak was simply o.k. was a tad over cooked for med rare, but thats fine, med rare is open for interpretation. When we order a $40.00 steak we like to make food noises, you know the one where your eyes roll back and you let out a long Mmmmmm...that didnt happen. More of a shrug and,"Its o.k. I guess" we arent mad about it, tipped 21% and will definitely return, we just wont order the steak.
Filet mignon was delicious, brocolini was ok but tough. Sides dont come with the steak, nor a salad or bread. Appetizers we had (humans n pita and pork belly on a stick?werent very good. For $100 for two people it was lacking but will try once more before I decide. Id like to try the duck.
The ambiance, the staff - Ian and Kellie, the appetizers - of which we had several, the precision and pour with mixed drinks - all great! The steak, not so much. $40 for a ribeye steak, just for the steak - any sides are extra, the steak should be tender and top-notch. My steak was tough and chewy. I ran into a friend, also dining there. He had the prime rib, and said it was good. With an eclectic, expansive menu offering and the overall experience - Ill definitely be back!
Hefty portions. Great cocktail drinks. Good apps. Will be back to try something else off the menu.
Beautiful dining experience with well prepared food and drinks. My chicken was juicy and drinks were top of the line 👌 I had the hot toddy and raspberry cosmo.
Service is excellent. The sides are not fresh and not well-prepared. Dark brown root-end on the wedge salad, tough strings in snap peas = old product. Dry, burnt brussels sprouts are not delicious. Not the high end plate you would expect.
Drinks were excellent. We ordered appetizers only. The mussels in white wine were dry and fishy. Ive had them at other establishments and mussels are usually drenched in white sauce. The duck fries were not the same as the first time we had them. There was something else we ordered but I guess it wasnt memorable.
Stopped in for appetizers, cocktails, and a dessert. Charcuterie board was very good, nice selection of savory, salty, and sweet. Tons of flavor. Duck fat fries were outstanding, the aioli for dipping was 10/10. Cocktails were very good, and decently strong. Dessert was chocolate cake, also good. Friendly, helpful, and attentive wait staff. Watched some amazing looking steaks and sandwiches go by on serving trays. Will definitely have to come back when were hungrier and try a larger meal.
We had excellent experience. Duck Fat Fries were awesome. The Steak was done perfectly... the roasted garlic was amazing... and the Brussel sprouts was one if the best Ive eaten.. staff were friendly, and service was very quick.. I would love to go back and try the rest if their food.
We had a meal with 4 adults on May 22 (with a reservation). My husband and I arrived a few minutes early and were promptly seated. It was a 530pm reservation so the restaurant was not busy. We were seated right next to another table that had patrons and in a direct line of traffic of the wait staff. This is not generally a concern but if you can space people out to make it more comfortable especially in early evening, provides a better experience. The table was very sticky. After about 10 minutes, our guests arrived. After they arrived, we saw the table next to us leave, one other get served, wait staff passed by us several times, and not one stopped to ask for a drink order. My husband finally flagged someone down and our meal got started. It was the same gentleman who walked by us multiple times. Note: this is a planning issue, not directed to our waiter. We ordered drinks and decided what to order. My husbands beer was warm. I ordered a martini (Titos and dirty). It was ok. For a high-end restaurant, you would expect to see some frost on the glass. Our guests enjoyed their drink. We ordered appetizers (Pork Belly and Brussels Sprouts). They were good. If you dont like Chevre, dont dip in the "crema" as it is full of goat cheese. As some are put off with the flavor, Id recommend naming it as such. We ordered and received our entrees. My husband ordered the prime rib and I ordered the ribeye. We each had a side. Mine was the couscous, and his was fries. The prime rib was tender, but the au jus was the only thing that gave it flavor. I was very disappointed in my ribeye. If you call yourself a chop house, that is the one piece of meat you need to do well. It had a lot of gristle, not a lot of flavor, and was not seasoned well. I ordered medium rare. I generally go for the edge of the cap first, have some of the middle portion, and save the cap for last. I could not get past the lack of tenderness on the first cut. We understand that we are in the midst of COVID and businesses are trying to stay alive. There are a few fundamental issues with this experience that could have been adjusted to make dining here a lot more enjoyable and would command a premium price. For a restaurant that charges high-end prices and labels itself a chop house, the fundamentals seem to have been missed.
Beautiful restaurant, delicious food, artistic bar menu. The ambience is perfect for a date night. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and plan to go back.
Went there for a birthday meal - family wanted to do something for me, and reviews looked good. The three of us had Tuna, a chicken sandwich and a big salad, with shared appetizers (hummus, duck fat fries, and their signature crispy brussels sprouts). Overall service was smooth and efficient, and the food was excellent - everything we had I would order again. In fact, we ordered an extra brussels sprouts to take away, my daughter liked them so much... Only one blip in the evening: my 19 yr old daughter drove separately, and when she arrived (we were already seated), they wouldnt let her join us. I saw her park her car - and after a few minutes walked over to see where she was. She was actually calling me from the front of the restaurant... That was strange - and they couldnt actually explain why they wouldnt let her in... Other than that, good food, good service and clear menu with not a lot of extraneous items.
Very good. Nice portion size. Steak cooked PERFECTLY. But... EXPENSIVE.
We were afraid the cauliflower steak would not be filling enough but it actually came with two slices that were a good portion with a yummy sauce. The cranberry chicken was pretty good, but one piece was a little tough. The Mexican brownie for dessert was good but wish it was warmed up and served with ice cream. The atmosphere was nice with dim lighting and our server was very polite. Good place to try in Morgantown.
30 dollars for nastiest rib eye I’ve ever had. Steak had no flavor and was nothing but fat and tendons. This place is way too over priced. Go to Longhorn. Two stars because our waiter was excellent.
We had a lovely time, the atmosphere is excellent. The food is first class, quickly and professionally prepared. There is finally a place in morgantown to replace Regatta and the Glasshouse Grill. Highly recommended
Atmosphere was great. Ordered the tomahawk for 2 and it was awful. Steak was undercooked to the order. The steak had to much fat and the steak sauce was terrible. For a place that only serves steak you would think the steak would be edible.
Really enjoyed Grazers. Ive been here for lunch an enjoyed it, but the dinner menu takes the restaurant a little more upscale. The staff was fantastic as they were able to squeeze my wife and me in without a reservation the Friday before valentines day.I ordered a steak that was really good. Plan to go back!
We called ahead and confirmed they had outdoor seating due to COVID concerns earing in enclosed spaces. However when we arrived the patio was enclosed in heavy plastic sheeting effectively making it indoors so we did not feel safe dining here.
Great find! We stopped here for dinner after a day hiking at Coopers Rock, on our way back to Pittsburgh. I had the filet and my husband has the rib eye. Both were delicious and tender and cooked just as requested. We both had the crispy brussel sprouts, which we loved, especially the little crispy extra leaves. Maybe not the healthiest way to eat them, but wonderful. Oh, and our server was friendly and very efficient.
Wow! Fantastic food! Just had the best burger Ive ever eaten... And Ive had my share and then some. Husbands spinach salad was excellent and his New York Strip steak was perfect. Will definitely be eating here again. Also, Server was Robert and he timed the meal just right. Everything was prompt, the food temperatures were great, and overall service was fantastic!
Absolutely amazing. Steak was excellent. Best cheesecake Ive ever eaten. Service was top notch. I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great atmosphere and amazing food.
This restaurant is a hidden gem! The drinks are fantastic and they pride theirselves on having great craft IPA beers. The food was also great!! Service is 10/10 I highly recommend Grazers to anybody
Best steak in Morgantown with a diverse and delicious cocktail menu as well. Would highly recommend this place our server was Carolyn and she was professional and knowledgeable about the food. Fantastic steakhouse wonderful overall experience.
This was easily one of the worst meals i’ve had at a restaurant and at a price of $103 for 2 people. The steak was 12 oz 3 of which were edible due to all the fat, gelatinous substance, and sinew. The Duck Fat Fries which were 7$ were hard with uncooked potato on the inside. My husbands steak was undercooked and his hand cut fries were also hard. Our server delivered the food and never checked back for refills or if we needed anything. Save your money do not go here.
Met some friends there tonight. We first grabbed some drinks at the bar for happy hour. Bartenders were great! Drinks were very tasty and well crafted. We grabbed a table and had a few apps, and then entrees. Most of the table had steaks. They were all meh to be honest. Would it have been an acceptable $8 steak from Applebees? Sure. Was it a $46 strip steak? Definitely not. Honestly, if it were properly seasoned, it may have went a long way. And please, please, please, for the love of god, please add blue rare as an option. Your Pitt rare is too charred to truly appreciate the meat. Our waitress, (I apologize if heard your name wrongAndy, was super friendly, responsive, and great.TL;DR grab some drinks and some apps. Skip the steak (which was the most disappointing part of the this chop house). :(
Service was not good and food was bad...My wife made a reservation at this place because she read that Had very good food also she wanted to surprise me, I was i chef at Walt Disney World for 10 year, she know that there not a lot of places that meets a high Quality of service and food with me. At my arrival the hostess was very friendly in a few minutes she had our seat and told us enjoy your dinner very nice of her our waitress come and ask us what you guys want to drink “ I told her give us a few minutes to see the drink menu “ she ok, about 30 second she got us water and ask again I told her it’s been a few seconds she decided to stand and wait for us to order our drinks She was very impatient. We got our drinks very quickly she asked us if we were ready to order our dinner, approximate or dinner arrive about 20 minutes my wife order filet mignon and I order the pork chop with a side of potatoes, I asked my wife to check her food and I did the same thing with mine first of all she never bought us a steak knife I need to get a waiter to bring me a steak knife as I was cutting my pork chop I realize the Porkchop was cold when the hostess came to ask me how was everything I told her to Porkchop was cold “she said” I could take it back and have them warm it up. I expected her to get the manager, at no time the manager arrive to our table. My Pork chop had no seasoning no flavor and cold I was very mad at this point I just wanted to leave but I did not because it was Valentine’s Day and I wanted my wife to be happy, I will not recommend this place to any one.. may be I got the bad service one but still for the price it’s not Worth it... I hope the manager reads this makes the restaurant a better place and check after his customers.
My wife and I have been here twice. Once on a Sunday, was actually disappointed to find out we could only have the brunch as opposed to a sandwich we had seen on the online menu. However, we stayed and partook of the brunch offering. The food was good. Price was fine. I did leave disappointed though, mainly for the fact that I came for something that I couldn’t have.Well, we thought we’d give it another go this evening. Neither of us eat a lot and split meals almost every place we go. Was hesitant to split as I know this restaurant establishes itself as upscale dining, at least the prices reflect that (dinner entrees, lunch pricing is on par with most other places). We risked it and ordered the Cranberry Balsamic Chicken with vegetables and grits (the brunch we had, I ordered grits and they were ok). We also ordered the Brussel Sprouts and Duck Fat Fries appetizers. The Brussels were amazing. They took lots of the leaves and separated them and made them nice and crispy. Flavoring was excellent. The fries were also good. They are wedges, where I would prefer a smaller fry. The dipping sauce was good as well. The main entree arrived and no vegetables, but they substituted a sweet potato purée with a sweet cream sauce and something infused into it had some kick. Needless to say, I was glad the vegetables were unavailable. The sweet potato was excellent. The grits were definitely better this time around and would order them again. The chicken had excellent flavor, juicy throughout with some bits of crispiness(the two breasts that came with the meal were not fried). Also, they split the meal with no hassle or up charge and brought it out on two plates(something that should be done, but is often not so in other restaurants). And as for the quantity, it was more than ample. I have seen some reviews that listed it as not enough food. Not sure what happened, or if they were expecting the standard horse trough that many restaurants in America provide now, but both of our plates were full.We were there at 4pm, which was a great time if you like quiet, private dining. The ambience was nice and the booth was comfortable. Our server also did an excellent job and was very pleasant. We will return.
Meh...It was okay. But just okay. Let me explain. I have been hearing the radio advertisements of how Morgantown now has a more sophisticated "chop house" for a dining experience. So I figured I would give it a try. I visited the restaurant on a Tuesday evening around 7:30PM. My girlfriend and I entered through the bar entrance and stood in an empty bar area for a minute or so then we were greeted and sat. A few minutes later a server took our drink order. After about five minutes a second server brought us water and asked to take our drink order. We explained we had already given it to the first server. The second server seemed very confused and asked if we would like to order apps. We declined but presented some simple menu questions like "How are the mixed vegetables prepared?" While I believe she was trying hard, she was just not knowledgeable of her menu. Something I expect if I am going to pay in excess of $100 for two meals. While she was getting answers to our questions the first server brought our drinks (several minutes later). I point out the time frame because urgency is important from a service standpoint. We were the only people seated in the bar at the time. There were three other tables seated in the main dining area. I had a house Cabernet and my GF had a sweet tea. The sweet tea tasted like mix and not fresh brewed (deal breaker #1 for us. Brew that darn tea!). The house Cab was fine. The menu pricing was what I expected with this type of restaurant classification. The decor was stylish for the building type. Personally I would have opened the bar area to the main dining to tie in the place better, but that is irrelevant. Server number two returned and we placed our orders. My GF ordered a small MW ribeye with a baked potato and sauteed carrots. I ordered a small M ribeye with a side salad and ranch. My salad came fast which was nice because I was getting pretty hungry. It consisted of a small plate of bib lettuce, two cherry tomatos, and black olives with a small side of ranch. I dont like a lot of dressing but this was clearly not enough for the salad. Deal breaker #2 - the ranch tasted like it was from a bottle. Maybe its me but dont even have ranch if you are not going to make it fresh. I did my best to cover the salad with the mediocre ranch. I then noticed the table was not equipped with salt/pepper shakers. I waited for one of the servers to return but none did, and there was not a bartender, so after a tried to wait it out I just ate the lettuce. About a half hour later the main meals arrived. The carrots were fine, sauteed in butter. The potato looked to be a microwave starter and then into the oven and void of any exterior seasoning, but it tasted fine with a little salt and pepper after we requested shakers. The steaks were the highlight of the evening. They were bigger than expected, cooked to proper temperature, and very tasty. They were marbled well and seasoned properly (lightly). I believe I read the beef is locally sourced and it did taste grass fed. So after everything, the steaks pulled the meal through. I think the place is nice and could be somewhere I really enjoy dining. They just need to step up their service and some of the little touches in my humble opinion. And that is not a shot at the two servers. They both were personable and trying hard. They just seemed to lack training and knowledge. As for the touches, a $100+ meal should not have store bought ranch and syrup tea. I will give this place another try because I really want to like here but I hope they step it up in these areas.
I am curious to know if the owner of this place has ever had a restaurant before.Today, a Friday, we stopped in at 3:20 for a late lunch. Well, come to find out that from 3-7 they only have bar food. This means that theyre not serving entreés for nearly 34% of the hours theyre open. Ive never been in a restaurant that stopped serving lunch before 4pm and started dinner after 6pm. Not sure why any kitchen would need more than an hour or two to change service, but to each their own I suppose. Regardless, with 4 people in the kitchen, a bartender, and a waitress, theres no reason to not have entrees available. The bar food was fine enough. The "fries" are actually potato wedges, but thats fine for me since I love potato wedges. Youll only get 5 fried grits for $8, and they do not much taste like cheese, which is odd considering "cheese" is in the name. All in all I will consider coming back for actual food, as what we did have was pretty good. I just feel bad for the staff, as Im sure they have to deal with cranky customers given the odd nature of the hours.
My husband and I just went for our anniversary on a slow saturday late afternoon meal(3 other parties in the restsurantOur server never took drink orders, we had to request drinks twice, she never cleared the table of dirty appetizer plates which remained the ENTIRE meal, the chicken was dry and bland and the $41 filet mignon had NO flavor, charred on one side, and unevenly cooked past medium rare, and was not presented as their menu described(with compound butter or aoli). Terrible disappointment especially when youd expect a $200 meal to be better presented. We will NOT return
Our dinner was amazingly delicious. I certainly didnt expect it to be this good. Its a french cuisine which was executed perfectly. The waitstaff was attentive but not pushy or overbearing. My compliments to the che .I would say that the level of the cuisine did not match the decor and it was like experiencing 3 separate places. Creating a more cohesive environment that matches the cuisine will push this restaurant to the top!
We will never go to a different steak house in Morgantown. The quality of the steaks, the delicious sides and generous portions are impossible to beat.
This restaurant has a cool atmosphere and a menu with several items that sounded good. Unfortunately, the food was really bland and way overpriced. I ordered the brown butter fettuccine; the sauce had almost zero flavor and the shrimp were not fully cooked. My husband ordered a steak and it was incredibly thin, chewy, and not flavorful. We really wanted to like this place but it fell way flat for us - especially for the cost.
For the cost of their entrees, I expected more. I likely would not return. Staff was friendly, place was clean, order time was very reasonable, but the food quality was mediocre at best (the crispy brussel sprouts were inedible); and when youre paying 36 dollars for a 12 oz ribeye, thats disappointing.
Food was well presented. Steaks came out one level above what was ordered. Homemade Lemonade was excellent. Wifes Cosmo was excellent. Carrots were honestly the best thing on the plate. Creme brulee was bland at best. Overall it was an over priced meal for what you get and the quality of what you get.
