1 Market Square, Saint John, NB E2L 4S6, Canada, Saint John
Established eatery serving seafood & steaks in a casual space with a full bar & patio seating.
Friendly Service, Tasty Fresh Seafood, Nice Beer. Can eat downstairs in the bar if you want to be away from people.. great!
it was a good dining experience! food was fairly good but the service and ambience are amazing
Great lobster rolls and local lagers! Staff charming. Accommodated our request for an out of the way table (COVID). Lots of atmosphere at this waterfront restaurant.
It was a cozy place with dast and friendly service. I recommend the seafood chowder and Moosehead Radler tap beer.
Our waiter was a first class A1 true professional. This man handled getting slammed by walk ins without missing a beat .Inspirational!! The food was so fresh and tasty I want to try more items .Just simply amazing. I’m so happy I got my fresh clams .
My wife and I had dinner here, female bartender rude, staff swearing at the tills and food was a fail for both my wife and I … both plates arrived cold. Waited for a dessert to be told it was only prepared on a certain day, so she decided not to bring my coffee … There are so many great restaurants in Saint John, I advise to pass on this one 😊
Great restaurant in the downtown Saint Johns area. As of 2022 fall the pier and boardwalk are being rebuilt . So dont expect a nice view at the patio . But great food and friendly staff !
I found the lobster to be more expensive then I expected but they said it’s just market price so they don’t even control it.The drinks were absolutely delicious.
Had a great snack of voconut shrimp and wings. Service was fast and friendly
The clam chowder was uneatable, the lobster roll is minced and full of mayo so you have no idea of what you’re eating, and the shaved steak sandwich consisted of what looked like 3 slices of deli meat.Service and bread were good!
Such a friendly atmosphere, and the fish and chips were amazing! We were greeted like long time friends, even though it was our first time. The fish was absolutely delicious and the chips were perfect. Also highly recommend the “special coffee”
All 3 dishes were cooked and served perfectly we hadFish Tacos, Coconut Prawns and Blueberry Salad.Ate on the patio on a sunny day can beat it.
Disgraceful and unprofessional. Stopped by for lunch. Restaurant. D6twas occupied maybe 1/4 the most. Ordered simple things like soup, coconut shrimps, lobster roll. We were waiting more than half hour. Food never was served. We didnt want to miss out our boat so we had to leave. I brought up this matter to the manager Mike and he was snooty and obnoxious with us. He said angrily to us - your food is ready (40 minutes for soup and shrimp?🤔🙄but you decided to leave. So not welcoming place. Instead of apology we got an attitude from manager!😒 Waitress was nice. I dont understand what happened. Either she forgot to put in the order. Or kitchen messed it up. But we were left hungry and disappointed. We really were looking for lunch in this place because we were searching restaurants to visit on our trip and that one was #1. What a bummer.
It took 45 minute to get our food but it was worth every minute it was delicious just a bit above 100$ for 3 person so not bad and well worth it
We ordered multiple different dishes and mine was the oysters.Everyone was absolutely happy and the service was also good but my oysters were too small for the price. As a Haligonian, Im spoiled by the oyster bars in Halifax :)Fish and chips, fries, burgers and the fish taco were amazing and the portions were fair enough for two!I highly recommend this restaurant to visitors.
Pretty disappointing experience. Food and drinks took much too long to arrive. Food was average at best. Dunno whats happened because this place came highly recommended...
Reservation made for 7pm, Monday Aug 15th. Arrived a bit early and told immediately after being seated that the kitchen was backed up and we’d be waiting a while for our meals once ordered. We ordered the Striploin (medium rareand the Lazy Lobster dinners. About an hour later we received our meals. My wife soon reported to the server that her steak was well-done, and I never bothered reporting that I did not receive any of the roasted reds. My side with the lobster was 3 slices of carrot and 3 slices of pepper. When our bill arrived, the server mentioned that the steak (now $42had been removed from the bill. And to our astonishment, my very small lobster meal (photo providedwas $110. Not a typo. Our bill for two drinks and the lobster meal was $154. There were no appetizers. If all of the meal was there, and didn’t take an hour, I still wouldn’t pay $110 dollars for a small lobster meal. This place does not have the ambience, service or view right now (waterfront completely under construction). The patio is now pea gravel. We chose Grannan’s for dinner based on a referral from someone that had gone there a few years ago. After 2wks touring the Maritimes, this was the only meal where I found grossly overcharged, and we ate numerous expensive dinners while visiting. They have several neighbouring establishments and I’d give them some consideration.
Went for dinner tonight (Wednesday), I tried the fish and chips with the bacon wrapped scallops. My boyfriend tried the oysters and then the fish tacos. Chips were very tasty, fish was decent size but fairly bland (kind of tasted like a large fish stick). Scallops were overdone. My boyfriend’s tacos were apparently very tasty, but the oysters lacked in flavour. The waitress was very nice, wait time wasn’t bad. Overall, a decent experience!
Fish and chips were excellent. Decent sized portions. Kitchen was slow.
Atmosphere was great. Highly recommended by locals for seafood. We sat indoors which was nice but would have been equally happy with the cozy lit up outdoor dining if not for the rain. The service was verry slow but polite. Had to wait a long time to get our bill. Food was finished before someone came to refill our drinks. Too late. Music was nice and we liked the vibe of the place. The fish and chips were fresh. But no salt of flavour. Maybe forgotten? It tasted like white fish simply tossed in flour/bread crumb mix. Loved the French fries.(I usually don’t like Friesdinner for 2 with one drink cost close to $90
Ordered the fish and chips it was beyond amazing , the fish wasnt heavily battered and was cooked to perfection. we considered coming back the same day for supper after our delicious lunch but were too stuffed to eat any more!!
Food took an hour and a half to come out, fried clams were overcooked and bland. My wifes steak sandwich was cold. Overall one of my worst restaurant experiences in a long time. Offered free drinks/dessert to compensate for the wait. It was bad enough we didnt want to wait any longer.Update: When my wife went to the bathroom before leaving witnessed the bartender making the hostess cry and telling her not to tell him how to do his job. Poorly run.
Was told it would be at least an hours wait which was fine as we werent in a hurry, was told there would be bread while we waited, never got it,when we did get our food it was ALL cold but my coleslaw was warm go figure. Waitress was great and apologetic. Will not be back or reccomend this place.
An absolutely amazing experience. We didn’t have a reservation but they easily accommodated our party of five during a busy hour. Our waiter was so kind, friendly and engaging. Every course of our meal was incredibly delicious and flavourful. Everything was so fresh and we truly enjoyed every last bite. I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a fresh meal and great atmosphere!
Came to Saint John for seafood, was beyond disappointed. We were greeted promptly and kindly, and the rest is downhill.Ordered the seafood tower ($75 - 1/2 a 1/2 lb lobster, 8 oysters, 1/2 a small crab, 5 poached shrimp and musselsand lobster roll ($29). Portions were tiny, they forgot tools for the crab and basic items included on the plates. Presentation came as a tower with a healthy portion of cold dried out mussels, with the top having the 1/2 lobster, crab and oysters sitting in a water bath with minimal ice. The shrimp cocktail sat ok on too , the sauce was good, the shrimp were over cooked, like the rest of the meal. It smelled a little fishy... the oysters were sandy... as a whole, this was a fail...Lobster roll was shredded, had a stringy texture and the the bread was soggy. Depressing to eat...The winner of the meal, was the fries, which there were a small handful of on the plate and we had to ask for the gravy we ordered after the meal arrived, so they were cold by the time they could be enjoyed with the gravy... mixed drink didnt have ice, but the wine was nice...Service was terribly slow, but the waitress was nice and cheerful. Wouldnt recommend trying this spot, will never return.
Fish tacos were amazing! Friendly staff and delicious food.
nice place. good location and great food. like everyone else, they’re hurting for servers so be patient and kind. the server we had we clearly the best one in the place and he was running the floor like a conductor. good value for the money too.
Excellent food. Came from Ontario, had the lobster roll, lobster boil, fish cakes, fish and chips, steak, burgers.
👎Charged me $110 for a lazy lobster and didnt even tell me the price beforehand. I ordered it during the Lobster season when lobster costs about $20 in the market. The person waiting my table acted like $110 was a normal price to pay for a lobster. And it didnt even taste good!
delicious food, fresh lobster, the barman has the warmest attention, he totally knows his job, he has a million stories to tell.
I just walked out of that place. RUDE greeter. I asked for a table inside after she suggested the bar (I was solo. . . She acted aggravated. Although it’s 8:30 pm on Canada Day, they weren’t that busy (it’s a slow night here anyway). I told her that I wouldn’t occupy the table very long (that I knew what I wanted which was just an appetizer and tea). She responded, “I’ll have to find out who you’re server will be first.” Her tone and extreme delay in returning to my table provoked me to walk out . . . And I NEVER do that! I’m very disappointed. I can’t comment on the food . . . Hopefully it’s much better than the help.
We arrived in the city in the evening and arrived here looking for a place to eat. After being seated it took 15 min before a server came to take our orders. We ordered drinks and food at the same time given the long wait. Our food took another 45 minutes to come out. The server said there was a delay in the kitchen with my dish….which was nachos. I’m not sure what kind of delay exists for nachos that would lead to a 45 minute wait. We never saw the server again until we had to flag him down to ask for our bill. The food itself was fine, but the service here incredibly disappointing. I wouldn’t return. I’m would try out one of the dozen of other options nearby with better reviews and hope for better service.
Got takeout here, my fiancee wanted crab and this was the only place I could find. I shared the meal with her, it was likely the best seafood Ive ever had, with mussels, clams and crawfish. And the crab was delectable. That sauce is unreal! 10/10 and a very satisfied fiancee! Turned a bad day into a good one, I guess money can buy happiness!
I would tear off it even if I become a winner of gift coupon of this restaurant at a Sea Dogs hockey game because I dont want to go there neither my friends . The vegetables withered and the fries were cold and the portion was as small as a kids menu, which made me to doubt that the food might be reused. On top of that, the manager (or ownerin his 60s was brutal as well as the young waitress didnt know what she was doing even though she was kind.Tourists, be aware that locals dont go this place twice. (I talked with some of my friends living there long time about this restaurantYou will be ripped off with poor food at much higher price with very small portion. Walk uphill just 50 meters and you will find lots of restaurants and bars at better price with reasonable portion. If you dont want to talk, just stay away from this one. What I felt when coming out after paying fifty something dollars for quick but long-waiting lunch for two people was hunger and rage. My impression after my first and last visit was that this place had been run by dishonest beings, which is shame.
While the service was slightly slow the night we were there its excusable considering how pleasant our server was.Last time I ate here it was during Saint Johns great Chop Chop week. Their plate was creative and well executed. Some places aim too high and fail but the blackened cod and ice cream churros were perfect.Given some other experiences Ive had at boardwalk restaurants lately I think this may be the go to now.
Delicious food, great customer service, nice patio located near the water. The mussels are amazing! Good lobster roll as well. Delicious fish and chips too.
We loved our food. I had haddock and blueberry salad (I absolutely loved the blueberry salad). My husband had the lobster roll and mashed potatoes and he really enjoyed those too.
nice place, they have restaurant upstairs and bar downstairs. For restaurant, reservation is required. It is a pretty big place and it was very busy on Sat night when I was there. It took too long for the food to come. Otherwise, the food was tasty, decor is nice and location is right on the water. Service was nothing special, but again, probably they were too busy on that night.
The seafood bucket and lobster filled mushrooms were really great! Blueberry cheesecake was also really good.Service is excellent!
Mixed review for this place. We went for dinner and drinks on Monday July 26/21. Had a great time. Our server Luke (?was fantastic. Although, it was a bit disappointing that an Oyster bar was out of oysters. We got there at about 4:30pm. Didn’t plan on eating right away, Luke (?was fine with that, provided excellent service and when we did order food he was great with suggestions. At the end of the meal we were talking about what we would be doing the next day and he suggested we go to St Andrews which we did and loved it. Because of this experience we went back for drinks before dinner the next night about 6:15(Tuesday July 27).This time we were served by Madelyn, what a difference, we again said we wanted a couple of drinks before deciding what to eat. She brought our first drink and immediately asked about ordering food. We reiterated we wanted to wait, she then came back and said the kitchen was busy and we should order soon. Once we had an appetizer she came back to ask if we would be ordering anything else, we did order mains and as soon as we were done she came by and asked if she could bring the bill, didn’t ask if we wanted a coffee or dessert, by then we were just plain annoyed and said fine. The whole time it felt like she just wanted to rush us out of there. If this was my first time there I would not have gone back.
I went there today with 3 family members 2 were visiting from Montreal. The patio was nice........ Unfortunately that was where the good experience ended. The waitress took our drink order, the drinks took forever no water was even brought to the table. We finally got our drinks and waited no less than an hour for our food. (It was not busy at allThere were no apologies for the wait. The food was mediocre except for my aunts chicken burger was more like chicken jerky. I dont know what was going on in the kitchen but cooking was definitely not the priority. We will definitely not be back and would never recommend. Do yourself a favor and go up the street to Brits where customer satisfaction means something.
Whilst the food was decent (but a tad overpriced), we were extremely disappointed by the overall service. We were not greeted properly (« Go upstairs » as a greeting), and our waitress made us wait 20 minutes before taking our order and bringing us drinks. After ordering, the wait time was easily 45-60 minutes with no sign of our waitress until the food actually arrived. The diners that had been seated just a few minutes before us had already been served and had time to enjoy their meal, pay, and leave, before we had actually received our food!Once we received our food, our waitress never came to check on us and kept us waiting a good 30 minutes after we had finished our meal to bill the whole thing.Overall, the food is okay but the service leaves to be desired. We will not be coming back anytime soon. There are other great seafood restaurants in Saint John…Yelp them!
Had my first ever lobster roll here and it did not disappoint! The whole family enjoyed their meals and the service was great. The view from our window seat upstairs was lovely and we would definitely return.
This is such a really great restaurants for seafood probably the best in the city theres always live music outside and outdoor seating really great place really good prices for very friendly and kind really excellent customer service all we should try to sign the crowd I highly recommend you check this place out you will really enjoy yourself to send carpeting guys. Hope to see you again real soon.
Great customer service and delicious food. My sister and I had the haddock and fries. Everything tasted fresh and home made. You know the cole slaw was super fresh. The tartar sauce definitely tasted freshly made and was awesome. The fish was crunchy outside, but tender and flaky inside. Best fish and chips Ive had in a while.
Oyster Rockefeller was ok but pricey at $20. Very few people in restaurant and I waited an hour waiting for oysters and fish tacos. Would recommend trying others seafood restaurants before this one. Seems more like a tourist trap...although the fish tacos were tasty and reasonably priced.
Not impressed at all! We specially went for mussels as none of the other restaurants had mussels due to the long weekend. Tje service was poor. It seemed like the server was happy that we didnt order anything more than mussels and drinks. Just from the picture of drinks you can see how unappealing it was. The beer glass is not even chilled. And she didnt ask if a refill was needed until we were done eating. Mussels were okay, wine was good. To top our disappointing experience (maybe our expectations were too high after having dinner at a restaurant next to this one), our neighbours were talking at the top of their voices, dont know why. The server will not bring the machine to the table, you have to go inside and pay. This is the first time I am giving such a poor review to a restaurant as I am pretty easy to please. I lost my appetite!
I really really enjoyed my dining experience here. The sever was professional, the oysters were the best thay I have ever had, the lobster was cooked perfectly. Overall, i have nothing to complain about this place. I love it!
My father was visiting from Vancouver, we brought him to grannans for drinks and chicken pita nachos. Seems as though the serving has gotten quit a bit smaller since I had been there last. Wasnt enough to share. Drinks were good but expensive, food good but not much for the price. Used to be amazing, note I would say average.
Service cannot consider as good at all. Food is not good but expensive. The fresh oysters are 6 for $18 , soooooo small, just cant believe it. Saint John is the oyster capital. I ordered Norwegian Cod fish, so disappointed, the fish has no taste at all, it cost $30, end up I can only eat half of it with that kind of taste. My husband ordered jumbo scallops, $40, and only three piece of Looney size of scallops. If it taste good then is better. He has to admit that he felt like a biggest sucker. When we asked for the bill, she gave us a wrong one, which was at least $30 more. It was not busy at all, only five tables of customers, how can you mixed it up.If you asked me, not recommended at all, unless you want to be a sucker too.
