We have been several times and the food always disappoints. The service at our most recent dining experience was really wonderful and they took great care of us and were attentive to our littles. Grand Mere Inn is not a place for little kids but it was a big family dinner so we brought them along.While the service was great. The food and overall experience is lacking. The food is always greasy and when you walk in, it feels like you have been transported to the past but not in a good way. The entire restaurant has been stuck in the past from the way the food is prepared to the decor and cushions in the seating area that look like they came from a garage sale but in reality they have been there collecting decades of dust and Lord knows what else.The food is always dripping oil and grease. The potatoes were practically soaking in oil. Overall I’ve had better food at Olive Garden for half the price. Grand Mere Inn has such potential. It’s a prime spot but it is falling behind in so many ways and I don’t see it lasting much longer if they don’t make some changes and it’s a shame.

Im not sure if its a result of Michigan being so late to the game in regards to allowing indoor dining after the COVID restrictions resulting in lesser talent in the labor pool or what the cause was, but our meal on 3/20 wasnt the same quality as it has been in the past.To start, we showed up slightly early at 7:20, for a 7:30pm reservation. We had called earlier in the day and asked if they had anything open after 7 and were informed they had an opening at 7:30. When checking in with the host we were informed that it was impossible we had a same-day 7:30pm reservation and were completely dismissed as if it were somehow our fault and were told to just go walk out to the bluff until closer to our reservation time. Luckily, the manager was able to get us in at our 7:30 time, but that interaction kind of set the stage for the evening. It took 19 minutes for our drinks to be delivered to the table once seated, after waiting close to 10 minutes for someone to greet us. My filet was cooked to medium rare, maybe slightly under, as requested. However, there was no seasoning on the steak-not even a hint of a simple salt and pepper, so it was completely forgettable. The herbed red potatoes were either left in the oven or under a heat lamp for far too long resulting in rock hard skin/starch where they were cut in half. My wifes creamy pasta that came with the Crispy Parm Chicken was swimming in a pool of oil.The Grape Tart drink my wife had was great!Having been quite a few times in the past, pre-COVID, we left feeling quite disappointed.

Everything we ordered was delicious. Lake perch was very good, but ask for melted butter on the side. The fresh paté was especially good as a condiment for the bread opener. Service was extremely friendly and everything seemed reasonably priced. We used to love the Red Lantern for special occasions, and this place kind of gives the same vibe. Will be returning.

Always have a great meal when we come here. The service is great!!

Grand Mere is the best "old world" restaurant around with classy, worthwhile dishes. Much better than Tosis. Small menu (good thing), lovely food, and wonderful staff.

We started off with the Oyster Rockefeller, the cheese wasnt toasted and it was full of soggy frozen spinach, it was disgusting. Then we had the Walleye, it had no flavor and full of bones. I have had lots of Walleye in my life and I have never had a piece that tasted like that. Bery disappointed.

Seafood Platter is great!

Run, don’t walk to this place. Seriously the best seafood meal we’ve had ever. I had the crab stuffed shrimp. It was super decadent and just couldn’t finish it (as per usual, my husband did). He had the walleye and said it was spectacular. There wasn’t a kids menu but our server Ava who was made to serve (so kind and attentivemade a few suggestions and made sure what they wanted, which wasn’t even on the menu, was cooked as they wanted. Totally above and beyond. The desserts I kept seeing coming out of the kitchen also looked to die for but we were just too stuffed and we just couldn’t but are planning a return trip and will skip the pre dinner bread basket. Also to add that they were supposed to close at 9 and we didn’t get there until 8:30 but we’re never made to feel like we were keeping them open “late”. Great food and great people plus the view of the sunset in their dining room is also amazing.

Excellent food. The breading on the lake perch was perfect. I recommend the larger portion. The service was excellent. When we asked for a box the waitress took our plates and transferred the food for us. Moderately expensive.

A family favorite for years. Delicious food, well prepared: lovely view; attractive and interesting interior; friendly, highly competent staff and management. All good!

I always enjoy stopping in. The staff and service always good. The bar is extremely dark, you have a hard time reading the menu. But its usually easy to get a seat as they are so busy. I am sure the proximity of the building there just isnt much room for change- but WOW an upper deck with an already great view would be great. I had the Korean Beef tips wrap/app special on Saturday, the sirloin tips were very tender, but the dish didnt have very much flavor, even with the components to go with it. This dish usually garners a ton of flavor. The restaurant sticks with the steak and seafood emphasis, I get it. And we will be back by all means. I hope they keep trying to go outside the box with the building, menu and service. Always a nice place to enjoy ♥️

The quality of the food and preparations gave the impression of basic palate .....in the kitchen ... i would say it is the place to go if you are hungry.

Nice atmosphere, amazing waitress, good drink selections. The food was good but two of our dishes were not worth the price. the Chicken Parm though was really good and definitely worth it.

Food is very good, Martinis are very very good. Staff were all fun and kind. We went twice when we were in town because it was so great. Couldn’t recommend more!

We had a wonderful dinner with family at the Grande Mere Inn. It is about halfway between our homes. Service was excellent and the various meals were delicious. Enjoyed the great view of the sun setting over Lake Michigan, unfortunately conditions were agreeable to see the Chicago skyline.

Our food was delicious as always and Michelle our waitress was top notch! We always return.

Amazing martinis, and seafood. I have always enjoyed every dish I’ve had and they have excellent service. Definitely my first choice when going out. I always recommend people come in from out of town.

Not our first time at all. We love this place for a delicious, relaxing, wonderful dining experience. Food is top notch, excellent service, nice menu variety, and great drinks too. Not cheap but well worth it!

At 5:15 I called to place a to-go order for one dinner. I was told they were not taking orders for to-go orders so I asked if I could come in and sit at the bar and place my order and I was told no there were no seats available. Very disappointing that you cannot even place a to-go order. I have never been told in my entire life that I cannot place a to-go order. How sad what has happened to this place

Best seafood in Berrien Springs. We come here every year for Valentines Day. Their white bread has cheese baked into the top and depending on how busy they are can be purchased as a whole loaf.

Great dinner for 2 with a bottle of wine for $100 with over a 20% tip included! We were impressed with the complimentary bread with pate and flavored butter! We split the seafood platter with lobster tail, stuffed shrimp, breaded perch, and blackened swordfish. The dish came with two sided and was plenty for two for $50. We were way too full but the dessert menu looked incredible!

Great restaurant to take family from out of town. Plenty of sea food dishes.My favorite is the Filet Mignon - medium well.Reason for 4 stars is the restaurant needs some minor improvements. They have a great decor but some things need to be updated without losing the decor.

The oysters escargot salmon and steak were perfection. Our serverJamie provided exceptional service. Spectacular view of the lake. Host and busser provided the extra touch that can only be experienced in a truly fine dinning establishment.

Wonderful meal to end our visit to the area. We arrived a bit before our reservation and were still seated immediately. The dining room is very comfortable, with a casual charm and beautiful view of Lake Michigan. Everything came perfectly prepared. The seafood platter is well seasoned without overwhelming the individual portions. Clam chowder was very balanced, and the Alaskan Crab legs were outstanding. Even the simple garden salads were finished with obviously homemade dressing. Just a great overall experience, and definitely the start of a new family tradition.

Excellent service. Absolutely wonderful food. Vegetables perfectly prepared. Perch and blackened fish were the best. Beef liver and onions were fabulous. A must visit dining experience when you are in West Michigan.

Absolutely delicious food! We had made a reservation but arrived early and they were able to seat us quickly at a beautiful table with a window view to watch the sunset. Our server was kind and helpful, and everyones meal was phenomenal. I had the swordfish which was some of the best swordfish I have tried. We also got oysters as an appetizer which were wonderful. Will definitely be back!

1st time here. Got there when they opened. Michelle, our waitress was great. Husband got the perch, and said it was the best ever. I got the ribs. Nice and tender. Sauce was good, but different from what I am used too. More ketsup tasting, but good. Everything was good ! Some people posted great view of lake Michigan, sorry didnt see it., Downfall, offers king crab legs but not snow crab, which I prefer.

We love it. I got the blackened swordfish and my boyfriend got the walleye and we both loved our meal. I try a different restaurant every time I come this way for a day at the beach and sunset pictures. This is my favorite and I will be returning. The view at the restaurant is also great.

Recommended by local friends while we were visiting, this restaurant did not disappoint! The brie and puff pastry appetizer was delightful, a whole triangle of delicious brie in a cherry glaze. My husband got the jumbo shrimp and I got the crab stuffed shrimp, both delicious. Enjoyed the cranberry bog martini, a cranberry version of a French martini. Finished it off with the bread pudding. Everything was great. The staff was delightful, helpful and extremely pleasant! We will be back the next time we visit. It started snowing the day we were there, but on a beautiful day the lake view from our window seat would be gorgeous!

Very interesting experience. Parking lot was full on a Tuesday when we arrived and we were so excited to try mere for our 8th anniversary. Upon entering we waited for a bit and finally had the host (Matttell us to come back another day we are too busy. Being a little put out I asked if we could sit at the bar which he hesitantly agreed. Bar service was great. I had the pork chop which was over cooked and tough. My wife though had the perch which was honestly probably the best both of us have ever had. I think they were overwhelmed and I should have sent my chop back. I wouldn’t tell anyone to avoid the location but our experience doesn’t reflect the high rating that brought us here.

Service was excellent!! We had a group of 7. I ordered the pork porterhouse, thick porkchop. It was excellent as was the baked potato and blue cheese dressing on the salad. The green beans with lemon sauce was unbelievably delicious. One of our party ordered the salmon with dill sauce and others ordered the sole, all done very well with excellent taste. The downside was the perch. Tasteless. This was our first time here, we were very pleased. Others are regulars, they rave about this restaurant. Truly a must go experience

A modest looking place from the outside, better inside. The staff here are amazing. I was enjoying watching them work, they were all united in their effort to have every customer have a good time. Once seated someone will immediately being you a basket of breads and spreads, each one delicious. I had the swordfish, it comes with a salad and your choice of potato. The fish came like nuggets. Not fried, but broiled in pieces. It tasted fine, but I thought that was a little odd. After dinner our server asked us whose birthday we were celebrating, if someone was we would get a free dessert. Thats nice to give away a dessert. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves, and we will eat here again.

Grand Mere has been a family favorite for so long. I finally got to experience it for the first time and was not disappointed at all. I had the escargot appetizer, mushroom soup, and the walleye special and my husband had the duck with peppercorn sauce. Everything was delicious and the entire staff were very friendly, attentive, and fun. I cant wait to go back when Im in the area again.

One of my local favorite fine dinning restaurants. Expect a wait in the summer. Great seafood. Good cuts of meat. Fantastic drinks from the bar. The pleasure starts the moment you walk in from the greetings from the host to the fantastic service the wait staff provides. Enjoy a very good multi course meal and a beautiful view of the sunset!

Its got great atmosphere but the food is somewhat overpriced and was OK at best. A bit bland and the meat was overcooked. Nice enough people but at this price I should have been dazzled let alone full. Unfortunately I was neither.

Very good restaurant. Nice point of view for Michigan Lake sunset. Food was good and i have really enjoyed some dishes with fish, appetizer and main course. If you want a good place to taste good seafood, it will be definitely one of the best choices around Benton Harbor.

Wonderful hospitality with expected food. Super friendly formality makes you feel like a king.
