Grand National - Roller coaster in Blackpool, United Kingdom
Absolute torture, might aswell been involved in a car crash
While I appreciated the history of this ride - and was coerced into going on it, never again! It hurts your every bone! It starts OK but once the first dip comes... prepare.
Only two cars going around . Not enough staff and whilst not a very long queue it has taken over 40 minutes to get on.
First time riding today and definitely the last. Im a huge fan of rollercoasters, but this is just unsafe, I thought the big dipper hurt but myself and partner have come off this in so much pain, hes hurt his neck and feel sick from pain and my entire spine has cracked completely, I feel like my legs are on a different planet to my back. Never again. Avoid at all costs. BPB please do maintenance on this ride...
Its a good rollercoaster just jolts you around a bit
Its the spine shattering roller coaster
Greatest ride ever
Unsafe ride. My son came off with a sternum injury, Paramedics had to be called. I’ve emailed Blackpool Pleasure Beach customer service, and been told that they can’t do anything about this, as this has never happened before. Strange, considering all the other reviews on here. The paramedics who attended also told me that the ride is dangerous, and a serious accident waiting to happen. Avoid at all costs!
The Grand National is a wooden roller coaster located at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in Blackpool, Lancashire in the United Kingdom. It was designed and constructed by American engineer Charles Paige in 1935 and is now one of two surviving wooden Möbius Loop roller coasters in the world (the other being Racer at Kennywood). Grand National is the only surviving twin-track roller coaster in Britain in which two cars race against one another.
Had more fun on this ride than any other ride in the country
Switzerland has the suicide pods. We have this. Is this in bad taste? Absolutely. Am I sorry? Of course I am. Did this ride break me? yes and in ways you couldnt imagine. Much Sore. Many Ouch. But a great piece of history.
My favourite memory of blackpool pleasure beach is riding the grand national at about 10pm in the dark watching the fireworks going off , amazing
Please BPB sort this ride out it was ridiculously rough and hurt so much. We went as a three and we all agreed we would never go on it again as it was not enjoyable at all. I know its an old ride but I remember going g on thos as a kid and loved the fact it raced the other train so some major work needs doing as we has an amazing day at the pleasure beach
Great ride , I wouldnt sit on the back row on your first go , the old trains where better ,but its still the only reason I get a season ticket , best ride there in the dark .
I went on this ride yesterday and was left in agony as it jarred my neck and back so much. Im still in a lot of pain today even taking pain killers periodically. I would never take the risk of going on this ride again and would suggest maintenace is needed before someone suffers a worse injury.
Been on this ride many many times but went on today and it felt very rough infact id say it needs major work it did not feel safe
Prepare for a bumpy ride. It wasn’t as bad as the Big Dipper but still not the best. And sadly it doesn’t give you as much airtime as you’d hope
Ride has not changed in the 30 years I’ve been going to the park but always forget how violent and turbulent the ride is. But loads of fun
Amazing history , ride this classic ride that so many generations has enjoyed .
Great ride , the heart of Blackpool pleasure beach , epic in the dark .
Super fun , most youngsters luv it, its abit like marmite to some people , I guess the newer trains they use are not as good as the last ones they lost in fire and the surviving 2 which some reason didnt keep too long , most things in past was built better so I can understand the negative comments , but nevertheless its still the same classic track , if its open, its the ride I go on the most .
Solid coaster, but strangely even more shaky than the Big Dipper, which is older. Can cause some pain, especially in the knees and elbows. But other than that, its a good coaster.
I did not like this ride because it was a bit bumpy and I hurt my leg on the bar only one thing I like about it that it was safe
The best ride in UK , amazing in the dark . Luv it , if you dont hold on at all its a lot less rough. Just keep your arms in air on drops .very enjoyable experience. I went on it 10 times in a row in 2020 . He has a magical charm that is hard to explain . I Hope to ride it on its 100th birthday .
Its a wooden rollercoaster, so its obviously going to be a bit bumpy. The racing feature is amazing though.
Amazing unique roller-coaster but is SO rough! Ended up hurting me to the point that I couldnt enjoy it. Desperately needs a retrack
Great ride , historic ride , just love it ,if you dont like getting air or having your bum leave the seat on the drops dont ride this ride , its a old school ride 1935 and it was built for fun .
It’s getting to the point now I can’t ride this consecutively anymore because it’s too rough, even seating in a middle row. Still love it and it’s a classic
It’s only a 1 star because if the likes of 8 year olds go on it then the might cry cause how sore it is Blackpool you should really improve on that but expect if fun
Great historic ride my favourite ride in UK . Just amazing ,great drops and fast turns . Ive loved it since the 1st time I rid it .Its ruff at the back and not so ruff at the front of the carriages .Do not think its going to be a nice gentle ride because its 1935 its fast and scary and fun .Enjoy
Ladies you need a good support bra for this ride! Great fun, an original wooden roller coaster!!!
My family enjoyed it but del had a worst experience on it because he has to hold on the lap bar. I watched it on YouTube with cameras jolting now I know why its rough but it is a great coaster and its nearly 85 years old plus if you love classics like Robert then you must do this one recommend if you love classics!
Great vintage ride. A bit rough but cant really con plain about that. Its nearly 80 years old
I think this ride needs looking at and updating. My daughters came off this ride crying in agony along with other riders as it jolted so much and flung them forward. They rode it 4 times and within then 4 times once it broke down and the last time they went on everyone came off in agony. It is alot of fun racing the other coaster but it is very unpredictable in if it will work properly or not.Its a fun ride when it works properly.
This ride is pretty rough. However since it opened in 1935, that makes sense. It’s really fun to race with the other train, especially if you’re friend or relative is on the other train. The ride also has a lot of good airtime moments too.
Fave ride in Blackpool all my life. This ride is a wooden rollercoaster which is fast & furious, its reasonably high aswell. It literally has you holding on for dear life as it goes up & down its crazy humps.Totally different kind of ride to the new Icon which is brilliant aswell.
Showing signs of age, could do with some TLC, BPB should look into giving this ride a restoration in the off-season. Is just about still safe to ride, the queue, despite not being that long, moved very slowly for some reason, given there was four cars on youd expect it to run a little more efficiently
Blackpool pleasure beach is awesome, I havent been on this coaster in years though as it was closed during my last visit. It is a great part of history so I can totally understand why it is still there... However, I felt my neck crack on one of the drops, and the full ride is unbelievable rickety and intense. Really good though, but I wonder how much longer this will remain open before it falls under health and safety requirements. It is probably one I wont personally ride again.
A great wooden coaster, with plenty of air time. Up with the best wooden coasters. Which is a great achievement considering how long its been around. Two trains race each other too, adding to the excitement. Amazingly although it looks like two separate coasters a bit of cleaver design hide the fact that it is one continuous track. Trains leaving from the left station, return to the right one and vice versa.
Great fun .Its a legend.Long may it go on .my favourite ride in the UK. This ride is great fun and fast I leave my seat on the drops and i enjoy the race with the other coaster . Its a dream to ride this historic wooden coaster .
I love this ride but I can well understand peoples comments regarding the discomfort, jerky, shaky and decidedly not smooth. This 1930s coaster despite its age is quite intense. The first real coaster I ever rode; I love it to bits!
Fun racing coaster where you can reach over and high five the other train. Rough and squeaky, has character, and is always fun.
This ride was terrible. It was like being in a car crash. I could feel my back cracking and now have stiff shoulders and neck. I bit my tongue and it was sore the next day. I really think people might sue over this ride.
The pleasure beach is a lovely place for a day out the rides are safe and nickelodeon land the child friendly part of the park and lovely views and good money prices
One of the most bumpy and backbreaking rides Ive ever been on to. There are much smoother rides in the park including Infusion. If you want to get on a smooth wooden double track racecoaster you should try Joris en de draak at the Efteling in the Netherlands.
Awesome ride but beware itll make you feel like you have been in a car crash when you get off lol
Great classic coaster.fun loud and bumpy with a race involved which just adds to the excitement Love the pleasure beach and everything they do.
Went to the pleasure beach for the first time in about 15years at weekend. I now have whiplash, bruised shins and am in agony from this rides experience. Very rickety and bumpy will not be going on it again
Great for those who dont like crazy twists and turns. The theme of the ride is two separate coasters on parallel tracks, racing eachother as if they were horses in the Grand National (hence the name). Its literally just dropping every 5 seconds: it really goes overboard on the vertigo but thats the whole point. I really didnt like how the carts were so packed though, my leg was almost trapped completely.
If rollercoasters are your thing then you must take a ride on the iconic Grand National. A traditional wooden rollercoaster with great highs and lows, bends and especially noisy adding to the excitement of the ride.
