Set across a pair of circa-1945 cottages and a reconstructed rail station depot, this quirky, music-themed hostel is across the street from Plymouth Playground, 3 miles from the Florida Aquarium and 8 miles from Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.Eclectic dorms offer music memorabilia and artwork, plus bunk beds and shared bathrooms. Private rooms in the main house provide flat-screen TVs, and some have en suite facilities.Freebies include loaner bikes and cook-your-own breakfast. Meals can be prepared in 2 shared kitchens. The hostel also has a sundeck with a hot tub, a bring-your-own bar area, and gardens with courtyards, walkways and waterfalls.
This is definitely one of the coolest and most relaxing hostels I have ever stayed at! The staff is super friendly and the variety of sleeping arrangements is out of this world, I got to stay in the disco room (one of the bunk roomsand had a very pleasant experience.I was able to meet a ton of cool and friendly people from a variety of counties and walks of life, so many stories under one very special roof. The hot tub is wonderful, the kitchen is fantastic, the showers have great heat and water pressure, and the food is so fantastic it leaves me speechless (you can really taste the love). One of the coolest things is the view from the watch tower 😎This is a 11 out of 10 for me and I will definitely be staying here again next time I need accommodations in the Tampa area, and heck I may even become a frequent face ^_^
Awful place dirty weird horrid. 4 digit code for front door my section my room kitchen and wifi. No hot water no soap or shampoo. Couldnt wait to get out.
Grams place is a amazing place. This is the fourth time I have stayed there and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a home away from home. Bruce(the owneris a amazing person.
Great place! nice people, Bruce Jr. is helpful and a pal (Bruce Sr. is also very nice), everyones surprisingly relaxed in comparison to where I come from, the Wi-Fi works great, the shower next to the kitchen has really hot water, they let you use the kitchen and some complementary food to prepare a good breakfast.Had some interesting times, met and had a few very good talks with a diverse set of people, listened to some great music! An experience, for sure!(context: stayed there for about two weeks for my moms funeral)
Top tier accommodation in a funky, eclectic, bed and breakfast style, ultra friendly, clean, super safe, family hostel mixing of the generations in a ‘road freaks (1970’s overland Asia travelers)’ shared home of jazz and Woodstock vibes. We enjoyed the Jacuzzi and open areas as well.
My experience at Grams place was unique to any hotel/ travelers experience I have had in the past. The 3 or 4 days I stay at the hostel were very peaceful and welcoming. I enjoyed watching football in the TV dinning area with guest and management. Management was always easy to get a hold of, professional, and accommodating. The aesthetics of the place were surprising in a good way, sometime like fun a 70s vibe, and the outdoor shower was an interesting experience. Grams also has great pricing options for both private and dorms room. I highly recommend staying at Grams for anyone visiting Tampa or in a brief transition.
I love these people. Unfortunately my birthday came in the summer of 2020 during the pandemic and it was very hard to get a place to host my small party of people. George definitely delivered he was so sweet and accommodating. Really cool dude. The decor was really cool eclectic and artsy which is right up my alley. It was a really cool bridge thing that went around the hostel so you can chill above it. Took some really sick photography. And I got to enjoy their little hot tub thing. I think I was in a jazz room which was cozy and cute. When I come to visit Tampa Ill definitely be staying here again. Going to miss you guys ♥️
The blankets were dirty. Others were not respectful abt music playing late at night. Hopefully theyll adjust this issue.
Relaxing place, friendly staff, and a decent bed. Coffee was good too.
Could recommend this enough. Can rent a scooter for a ride to Raymond James stadium. Laid back and friendly atmosphere. Awesome old style collectible style.
This hostel is as amazing as Gram Parsons music and talent. They treat you like family....the structure and layout of the complex winds around trees and contains authentic vintage Gram Parsons memorabilia. Also there are a dozen or more guitars and a classic piano..THAT WORKS. i found an acoustic guitar that im composing a song called Fallen Fruit...its a great place to visit and know about.
Great place, and great visit - safe, comfortable, and convenient to Tampa at a great price! The owner / manager (Bruce? Im terrible with names!was very quick and helpful in getting me checked in. I stayed in the Amsterdam dorm with 6 beds. There were 3 other guests who were friendly and quiet. The bed was comfortable - I slept like a log! And I had room to hang my gear. The kitchen and shower were all nearby - convenient and just right. Unique decor, and great experience. Ill be back! Not sure what happened to my first review, so my apologies if this is a repeat.
Such a cool atmosphere here, staff was great at replacing our TV in the rock n roll room when it wouldnt turn on in a timely manner. Check in was at 2 however our room wasnt ready until almost 3, staff was apologetic so it was still a good experience, had to wait a little while for clean towels. Great place to stay for fun.
You enjoy staying at this Hostel very friendly staff. This Hostel may look like old school 60s style but its fine. The beds are alright just the rooms are a different story. But what great about this Hostel is you get meet people from other states and Countries. Had a great time interacting with people. This Hostel met my expectations in Tampa. I recommend.
Grams Place is very relaxing and the atmosphere is something I was not ready to leave at all lol I love how its set up and how pleasant it feels to be on property 😁👌✅!! The rooms are really nice and the owner is friendly and a great personality. Thank you as me and my fiancee are looking very forward to coming back. The only thing I can see that needs improvement is the cable .
Had a fabulous last minute stay here. Super friendly staff. Relaxed environment. Old-school hostel in the best sense of that term. Hope to return one day!
I had a great time here! I stayed for one week and it was amazing. Hostel with hippie vibe Every night, Bruce would turn on the hot tub for us. There was a live jam in one of the days and it was great. There is also free breakfast included. Bruce (the ownertries to get to know the guests! Very friendly. The internet speed is pretty good. I was working from there without any issues
This is one of the best Hostels I‘ve ever stayed in. It‘s in a nice safe area and the owner is so nice and helpful. 10/10 would come again.
All was good except for the bed: unbelievably uncomfortable, even for a hostel. I stayed at the cheapest hostel in Miami after this and my bed there was 10 times more comfortable. I itched for a week and a half after staying here, and I think it might have been due to bed bugs. It’s a shame because the property itself is very cool and the employees friendly. I can’t bring myself to go back. Too bad it’s the only hostel on the FL west coast.
We made our booking to stay at Grams Place on Hostelworld, but when we showed up the evening of our reservation, we were told that there were no available rooms for us. We received no help at all in trying to find an alternate place to stay. We had no choice but to drive back home that same night. I would strongly caution anyone against booking through Hostelworld or attempting to stay at this location.
Super cool vibe, lots of cool space to hang out outside, I took a bunch of pics of painted artwork on some of the spaces outside. I got the rock n roll room and it was immaculately clean and the bathroom was unexpectedly fancy and the bed I would like to bring with me everywhere lol. Mary and (blanking on his namewere excellent hosts making me feel at home. When I stayed, there were some college students from Amsterdam, a really cool couple that jammed out on guitar and it was just a very peaceful vibe! Coming back next time I’m in the area 💯
No rail for country dorm. Stairs (3 of them unusually awkwardHad to get up in the middle of the night to help my friend to get to the restroom and back into the room. I guess the ADA doesnt apply to this facility. Had to search for toilet paper the first night and request it the second night even though I brought it to the cleaning ladies attention and she quoted extras are under the sink. There was none under the sink! The guests refrigerator stunk badly, kitchen common area filthy especially under the stainless steel Joint connectors, only a used dirty sponge provided and no kitchen towel, pots scorched and dirty with residue food left on them, bathroom shower matt soaking wet and was there the three days we were there, found a credit card another guest lost under my bed, gave it to the owner who said oh she hasnt been here in a while which lead me to believe that that the room hasnt been cleaned properly since that guest left? I think that more effort should go into cleaning and to take that poor cat to the vet because it was sickly, emaciated, and scabby when I pet it.
What a hidden gem! I Will certainly be returning . Such a warm and genuine atmosphere. Everyone was so friendly including Audrey their adopted cat!
Great place! Love that we could have our own room but still had the social aspect of the hostel hangout areas. Everyone super friendly, very easy, clean. Our light didnt work in the bathroom and Bruce came over & fixed it right away. Also loved that Bruce had tons of suggestons for things to do locally. Oh & hot tub was a huge plus! Very clean.
Definite recommend to stay here! Nice, chill, eclectic vibe. Quirky. Its almost commonplace that you dont expect a great nights rest at a hostel. But let me tell you, the bed was comfy. The pillow was both fluffy and thick. (too bad if you like flat pillowsEven the towel, they provide a towel free of charge, was soft and good quality! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and comfort of the linens LOL. The location was safe. I went for a jog close to sunset/evening solo, came across many other people in the neighborhood going for a run or walk. (I jogged north on Ola Ave until the river). I felt safe! There wasnt enough spaces for street parking, theres a park nearby with a parking lot. I parked there with no issues. I found front desk to be particularly helpful and friendly! If youre on the fence about staying here, its a thumbs up from me.
Stayed there for a couple nights but management was less than welcoming. Guy at the office seemed like a drunk . Declined to give me a receipt, maybe to evade taxes . Who knows . And as time progressed tried to play nice . The fridge in the kitchen smells .
Absolutely loved it here! The owners and hosts were so kind and helpful. And all the other guests I met there were so much fun to hang out with. The beds, bathrooms, kitchens, and common spaces were clean and well stocked. The hot tub was great, even as a tiny pool with the jets off too. The patios below plus balconies and catwalks above made the outdoor space here really special. And all the fun extras and knick knacks were one of a kind. Every time I go back to the gulf coast I’ll be happy to use TPA now that I know I can stay here. Thanks Gram’s Place!
Easily one of my favorite hostels. Very friendly staff and they offer a lot for the low price that you pay for a dorm: complimentary breakfast with plenty of options, a hot tub, plenty of places to work on your laptop if youre working remotely. They also have a wide selection of old books to read. There are some gems youll find on the shelves And the decor is primarily musically themed which I love And if youre renting a car, you can park for free in the lot by the park across the street. And it is only 5 minutes from downtown. If youre visiting Tampa, this is the place to stay.
I reserved the Jazz room a month in advance for Valentines day because my boyfriend is from New Orleans and I thought it would be a nice touch. I arrive and the exterior is really cute so were both excited. The girl at the front desk says theyre putting me in the rock and roll, and I can see on the sign-in sheet that they gave the jazz room to someone else. A little annoying but not a big deal. The girl at the front brings me to my room and leaves without giving me a key. I go and ask her for one and she says that there is no key to the room because the last person that stayed in that room didnt give it back.I tell them Im not comfortable sleeping in a room where a stranger has the key. They spend a couple of minutes half-heartedly looking for the key before the older guy (im guessing managersays that the tenant is "a close personal friend" of his and isnt going to do anything weird, and I should just leave any valuables in the office. I tell him I dont know his friend and Im not comfortable with that, and ask if we could just have another room (my boyfriend and I were the only guests in the place from what I could see). He gets close to my face and says either I sleep in that room or he refunds me and I leave. As Im in the process of the refund, the girl tells me that the Folk room is available. Great! We set our stuff down and the room is dirty, the dresser drawers are broken, there are things from past guessed shoved into the back of the closet, etc. My boyfriend and I just got really bad vibes from the place and left.
Stayed here for three nights when first moving to Florida.Pros; fun people. Quiet neighborhood. Safe. Affordable. Great manager that helped me out a ton. Convenient. There is a park across the street. There are bicycles available. Was pretty clean all around.Cons; The bathrooms are easily not private and pretty much anyone can see inside the windows while youre doing your thing.Thank you so much for giving me a safe, clean place to sleep while I was changing my life!
As a person who appreciates art and music culture this hidden oasis makes all others look terrible. Its unique, safe, fun and Ruby is always there making the place feel like home. If youre travelling and need a place with good people and a home away from home atmosphere, this is the place to stay.
This is one of my favorite hostels Ive stayed in! It has a fun, upbeat atmosphere with great hosts and lots of things to do nearby. Cool decorations throughout and very nice hot tub.
Pretty cool place overall and the manager was super nice. There were a few bunks that were not taken and they put me right next to a guy who was snoring so load and his phone kept going off all through the night. He was sleeping so hard that I didnt want to wake him up. The other thing was the shower was outside with no AC. This made it impossible to shave and shower without sweating like crazy even though I took a cold shower. Other than that the place was pretty cool overall.
Epic and eclectic hostel. The host/manager George was extremely kind and accommodating. Rooms were clean and cozy. There is a hot tub, 2 kitchens, multiple decks, and some amall breakfast amenities like coffee eggs and toast. Excited to come back!!
This is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed. The atmosphere, setup, and price were all amazing. I met some people while staying here that I will be keeping in contact with. One of the managers George had a lot deep talks with me and he is so chill and relaxing to talk to you. They will even occasionally cook you a free dinner and I went an excursion that was offered by them to the beach that was a lot of fun. Would recommend to anyone.
The hostel itself is so charming and close to all the great things in Tampa! Unfortunately I had a disappointing experience with George before I left :(There was an error with my booking and minus the fact he would hardly let me speak to get my concern out, when I told him I didn’t feel that the conversation was going well, he told me to leave the hostel and NEVER book with them again and slammed the door behind me. This was all at 11pm at night and I am still in shock that someone could act like that towards a guest. As a world traveler, I have never had anyone behave that way anywhere in the world. I hope that he is truly held accountable for his immature actions and that this doesn’t happen to another guest at Grams. It’s a shame that it is tolerated to begin with :(
This place is so cool, parts of it kinda feel like a tree house, very thrown together building style but its interesting and unique. Staff is great, theres a hot tub, its easy biking distance to downtown, all the comforts you need. Id stay again for sure!
Really cool place with a really cool vibe and lots of little indoor/outdoor nooks to hang out by yourself and do some work or to hang out with a group have a drink and make some new friends. The rooms were clean. The owner was really cool. The location was pretty close to everywhere I wanted to go! I will def be back next time in Tampa!
Never stayed in a hostel before, so I was a bit wary.. but needed an emergency last minute affordable place to stay while visiting. The atmosphere really great & felt super safe. The highly rated reviews on here won me over to stay here. I also really liked the option to pay for a private room.Tho, with a hostel, you get to hear people up talking at 2am on a weekday. Even with earplugs & eye mask, you’ll feel like your living with room mates all over again, haha. But that’s what you get when you stay at any hostel I assume.Over all, I would totally come back & stay here :-)
What a wonderful environment to make friends and spend a few days in the Tampa area. The hostel itself is full of interesting trinkets and I felt my possessions were safe at all times. The price was right and the people were great! Will return.
Bruce the owner, is super great! Always willing to accomidate to our wants! The place is beautiful and unique. The rooms are kept clean and come with all your getaway necessities. I will definitely return when I come to Tampa. Maybe, even bring a group of friends to join!
I was originally supposed to stay for 3 nights back in October 2018 however, the hostel was too far from the places I needed to visit and was on the other side of the bridge. The following day when I realized that public transportation was going to take up too much of my time, the owner understood my situation and whole heartedly gave me a refund for the next 2 nights. On top of that she let me stay a couple hours after check out time so I could find a place on the other side of the waters. Thank you so much for making my time pleasant. I enjoyed the food and festive atmosphere of the whole place.
Really enjoyed the stay and the management’s style of getting to know people staying here. Very simple, very affordable. Bring your own shampoo and soap. Affordable laundry $5 total in a large washer dryer. Fun hanging out on the various porches and patios. Comfortable, clean twin sized bed. I feel very safe here and have enjoyed the very short walk to the various bus stops that will take you wherever you want to go. If you aren’t coming expecting a hotel, you will have a great time and have great company. Breakfast is really fun cooking with other people and there seems to always be coffee.
Bruce, James, and Christian were excellent hosts. My girlfriend and I were in town to attend a concert last weekend, and we were more than satisfied to have stayed at this great hostel. Our time here was made incomparable thanks to their genuine hospitality.Grams Place Hostel is a hidden gem. Music theme all around for all musicians and music-lovers, in-ground hot tub, a BYOB bar, and possibly most impressively a giant tree house setting on the second floor. Its also conveniently located near well-known chain restaurants, stores, and other attractions in the area.We will definitely come back here whenever were back in town. Highly recommend Grams Place.
This is my first time staying in a hostel but I must say that Grams place has set the bar high. Bruce & Rhonda are excellent hosts, they make you feel like family. There’s a hot tub, a hammock & a couple crows nests where you can look out & relax. Not only does this place feel like home, it’s like your own art museum. There’s so many beautiful eclectic pieces of art on the property that you can be amused just by walking around. Sometimes I like to come here & stay just to get away from home because it’s like a sweet escape. I would highly recommend this magical treehouse hostel, it’s a little slice of paradise & the staff makes you feel like family! ❤️❤️
Wow, where do I start?!Im on my travels from England around Florida for a month and originally planned to stay here a couple of days whilst I explore Tampa. From the moment I stepped in I was warmly greeted by the staff and everyone was so interested to get to know each other. I met others as my 2 days completed and was lucky to extend my stay to a week because it was so much fun! Everyone here is so open and easy to talk with, the hostel itself is unique and very quirky! Love how it is decorated in such a colourful way and even has a hot tub! The history behind it is ever so interesting. If you plan to visit Tampa...actually if you plan to visit Florida. Get across to Grams Place and meet people who will be your friends for life, guaranteed!Thank you, and I will be back!! :)
Grams Place is nestled next to a beautiful cemetery and recreational fields on an up-and-coming neighborhood just a 15 minute walk from the River Walk. Much of the hostel is outside, including a kitchen, bathroom, hot tub, and shower. Watching the steam from my shower swirl towards the stars was a highlight of my hostel stay. There is an eclectic mix of decorations and the hostel has a wide range of outside seating, bikes for rent, and everyone who works there is genuine and wants you to have the best stay possible. Room rates were very reasonable. My buddy and I stayed in the "Adventure Room" and really liked its location and the ability to control the temperature. This is also one of the only hostels Ive ever stayed in that had the beds made for us when we arrived. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Cozy, corky, and the best of its kind. My favorite hostel in Florida! The owner doesnt seem warm right off the back but if you get him talking youll find out hes just as warm as the lighting in the musically saturated rooms. The Blues Room is my favorite! I loved meeting the different people in the open kitchen and it was all very affordable! No complaints here!
I stayed at Grams Place in October and was very impressed. This was my first hostel so I was a little skeptical and nervous about it, but it was great. I stayed in one of the private rooms and it was very comfortable. My room had a lock and I really appreciated the security measures that were in place because I am a girl and I was travelling alone. The owners were extremely laid back and welcoming. The only downside was that it is not located in the most ideal area of the city and the only parking available is on the street. I am a graduate student and I went to Tampa to do research at the local university. I was looking for something affordable and safe and Grams Place offered both. The staff was more than welcoming and it was great to meet people from all over the country and the world.
I came here last week for a work conference at the convention center and was thrilled to be treated so nicely and accommodating. I stayed for for 5 nights with the private room for one and the coed dorm for 4. Loved the feel and the great crowd of people it brought. Bruce and Christina are gems and very easy going and friendly. This was my first hostel experience and wony be my last. Thank you! Well worth the prices. Even better they had a washer and dryer on site that you could use along with an ironing board! Never was able to take advantage of the breakfast in the morning, but it looked good too.
