Grainger was an interesting person
Interesting place
Didnt really have much information since i was a foreigner but nice to know his story and his influence on australian music...
MoreVery informative.
An interesting one, especially for all those history and music lovers. A vintage collection of Musical equipment collected, owned by Percy Grainger. The collection also has scores of other items such as diaries, furniture, decorative arts, photos, clothing, correspondence. This museum was opened officially in Dec 1938. This building also has a historical significance that, it was designed by a architect called John Gawler. The building is listed in the register of the National Estate and the Victorian Heritage Register and National Trust of Australia(Victoria). The entry is free and there are some friendly staff to answer questions.
MoreFantastic museum and people working.
I visited the Grainger Museum as part of an RSL field trip.At first I thought was about a famous Carlton player but instead it was about the famous Australian composer and conductor of the same Christian name.We also visited a World War One exhibit. At one time I actually did point Percy towards the porcelain.Had a quick look at the campus.I had in the past worked for that building company.Good day out.The catering was excellent.
MoreThe Grainger Museum located at Melbourne University is a hidden gem. Stumbled upon while taking a Melbourne University walking tour. Percy Grainger was a true Aussie eccentric, genius of music composition and performance. In later life he proposed this museum to Melbourne University and supervised its creation providing a unique range of memorabilia from his own collection. Well worth a visit.
MoreVery qwirky - definitely worth a visit.
Really awesome and quirky little museum that depicts the life of Percy Grainger
Definitely a fascinating museum that is worth a visit.
Really good museum, the collection it good.
A collection of exhibits illustrating the life of Australian-American composer, Percy Grainger. This Museum was established while Grainger was still alive and its architecture and collection reflect the choices of Grainger himself.
MoreTerrific Museum. Thanks Chantelle for great45 minute introductionOne of Melbournes hiddensecrets
MoreInteresting place to visit.
Cool museum hidden near Melbourne Uni Music Department. I went to see the Synthesizer exhibition in 2018, and that was epic. The staff are knowledgeable and passionate. A lovely little space with some awesome free exhibitions. Worth a look-see :)
MoreNice little museum. Curated by people who are helpful and very proud of their work.
MoreCertainly a unique museum / gallery and worth a visit.Percy Grainger was an interesting man on many levels and a large contribution to Australian and global music development.Check it out (its free!)
MoreGreat arrangement of all items in he museum. They are all interesting and full of information. I must say whatever I saw in this museum was very unique and all related to development of music in Australia. The staffs were very kind and ready to provide you information. Will definitely return for the next exhibition.
MoreAn esoteric composer who invented instruments in search of "free music" 50 years before synthesizers and was so famous he built a museum for himself... Very interesting space and rare exhibits for an underappreciated part of Aus music history
MoreBefore my visit, I thought that music is just for leisure. The Grainger Music Museum showed me the scientific and historic aspects of music which changed my way of thinking
MoreI didnt know about Grainger
Great little museum on Grainger’s music and life - not open on Saturdays (but is open Sundays).
MoreGreat exhibition of syntherciser equipment and similar products. plus great staff as well. also close to local transport and easy to get to as well.
MoreWell worth a visit whether youre a fan of Percys music or not. Easy access by public transport and close to the interesting museums etc.
MoreA wonderful little museum dedicated to the man, his music and his ideas. Thoughtful staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
MoreThis place really showed me how much potential I had as a Professional Thereminist.
MoreOdd museum, created by artists own funding. Made him historically more important than the music lends to. Quite an odd chap, good to know if you are an historian of musicians.
MoreFantastic Displays, Chris was very informative,.What a talent was Percy Grainger!
MoreWhat a surprise to come across this amazing, fun and informative Museum covering Percy Graingers lifes work - even got to play on many of the masters music machine inventions - wow that was a treat.
MoreWho on earth would build a museum for themselves? A bit self-indulgent?
Very interesting little museum in a really great location. Brilliant insight into Percy Graingers stange life
MoreSmall Museum with some interesting and interactive exhibits.
Great little museum, but with one major incomprehensible drawback . . There is none of his music playing anywhere !!! What was playing was a random cd of Vaughan Willams . Was a bit embarrassing to explain to my friend who commented that he liked the music being played, that it wasnt actually Grainger at all !
MoreGreat little museum, check it out! Amazing to see some of Graingers musical instruments there.
MoreNot for the prude or squeamish!
