Set in a Georgian townhouse opposite the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, this unpretentious hotel is a 4-minute walk from Goodge Street tube station and 8 minutes on foot from the British Museum. The bright, functional rooms come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffeemaking equipment. Some also feature period fireplaces and/or sitting areas.
There was NO room housekeeping at any point during our stay: no new towels, no emptied bins and no clean sheets. There wasnt even a sanitary bin in the the bathroom which is a legal requirement! Having reported a few issues, such as missing smoke alarm and a leaky seal on the shower door, nothing was done.
Nice location, friendly staff, good to stay for a short city break :)
Charged twice and still waiting refund. Requested ground floor for disabled son and was told yes and on arrival was down flight of stairs. Room floors were dirty and TV covered in dust, rooms very bright and let in alot of outside noise.
I dont recommend staying at this hotel. The drainage in the bathroom sink and shower was insufficient, and the water temperature was difficult to control. AC was broken in all rooms in our booking (August delivered +35C in Londonand we were promised a partial refund from the manager. Over a month and a half later, we have seen no sign of the refund even after countless calls from our end and more promises from the manager. I wish we had seen all the other reviews before booking this hotel, would definitely not stay here again.
🔴🔴🔴DONT BOOK THIS HOTEL!🔴🔴🔴Was here in beginning of august 2022 and it is, without a doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed at.1. The AC didnt work. Me and my partner arrived to the hotel late thursday night. Our friends that we traveled with arrived a few hours before us, told us that their ac didnt work, and that the reception was closed fot the day. When we got to the room we noticed that our rooms ac didnt work either. Early the next morning I notified the front desk person about this. She said she didnt know anything about it but that a mechanics were to get there on that day (this was friday). She asked med how long we were staying and when I said until monday, she looked nervous. The AC was never fixed. August in London was so hot that it was impossible to sleep. The front desk person said we could get a 20% refound. We have not seen those money, even though one of my friends has called them SEVERAL times. After reading more reviews we found out that the ac hasnt been working for years.2. There was no cold water in the sink or the shower.3. In the area between the sink and the shower it was a thick layer of dust and hair.4. The wifi worked about 10% of the time.DONT. STAY. HERE!!!!!
A/C broken in all hotel rooms. Was promised a partial refund from the owner which he never delivered on, even after me sending countless emails and phoning for an update. Please stay somewhere else if you want to avoid being scammed
They don’t seem to spend time in maintenance. The fan was out of order in the rest room. Pretty small room and basic breakfast. Location is good, though.
Positiv: the location was goodNegative:Sadly our room was not vaccumed (outside of the bin was candy, used tissues, wrapers, on the table a used water bottle....)Aircon didnt work, 35° outside, the room was hotter. 😓 Explanation was it will be fixed the next day.........At breakfast the staff wasnt attentive.
Water was either hot or didnt work, some of the staff barely spoke understandable English, no lift, airconditioning didnt work properly, bad smell in the bathroom
They have rats. They also cancelled my stay without notifying me and left me homeless in London for a night.
Very disappointing. Extremely poor value for money and no sense that management cares for guestsLiked · Location was good. Breakfast was OKDisliked · We stayed for two nights and the room was en en-suite. The first night we had either no water, or rarely, cold water. Toilet wouldn’t flush. Cold water or no shower. Same the next morning. Management took no responsibility. Staff told us these were common occurrences, suggesting mgmt misrepresentation, at best, or outright lies. Unsatisfactory for 400+ GBP per night. No AC. No fan. Simply an open window during July.
0800 am through 0900. No water coming from the bathroom tap. Or shower. Or refilling toilet cistern. 0900 cold water. Totally cold. Complaining was told that I might be able to use another rooms bathroom after they had checked out.Dont book this place. If anyone has any idea how to get money back from Booking dot com? It was rated good.P.s the advertised Aircon wasnt working either.
50% of the time we had no water (or only hot water). The air condition could not be adjusted, smelled like mold and was really noisy (and did not really cool that much). The breakfast is basically only bread and coffee, no eggs or any kind of gluten-free options available. It also does not start until 8.30, which is too late. And one of the days there was no breakfast, for which we got no understanding or compensation.Overall not a place you want to stay.
Noone at the reception after a late check-in was chosen.Isnt the worst hotel the hotel where you cant even sleep?
Family with children of 1 and 5 and they allocated us on the 4th floor (no lift).Get rest is not an option in this hotel: 1Matress were just terrible bad. You could feel every single spring. 2curtains dont blind the light so be ready to wake up at 06:00 - 06:30hBreakfast is poor in quality and diversity. Please, for your health and safty, keep away from this hovel. Pay a little bit more and go anywhere else, this is completly rip-off money.
Nice rooms, great central location within walking distance of the attractions.
Reasonable location, we got the top most floor unfortunately no lift (a 1 y/o toddler with us. The room we had was not in its best state or even the feeling of Cleanliness, broken bedside table risk for splinter. Floor was not level, I dont know if it has to do with the foundation. Bed do squeak and uncomfortable but we were tired we did sleep okay. You can hear the people in the other room.Shower is mouldy! Please Bring indoor slippers! The pictures in bookings site is way far (oldfrom the recent actual room, see pictures attached.
Shoddy, unreliable, misleading.I cut my trip short and went home to avoid spending a night in this hotel. The quality of the room is awful. Bed was low, nasty and uncomfortable, shower wad disgusting, there were bobbles on the sheets which clearly needed replacing. There is also a £5 PER HOUR luggage storage charge after 2pm, which wasnt at all mentioned on their page (I booked through booking.com).I made a complaint in person, the receptionist said she couldnt do anything about it and would get the manager to call. Ive been completely ignored. Still awaiting at least a partial refund for a room that couldnt be slept in!
My stay was great here. Excellent location, friendly staffs because of the hospitality I had to spend another night at the hotel. I would recommend this to anyone looking to have fun in London.
Dodgy hotel. Accepted my booking at the weekend and informed me one day before my stay that they couldn’t accommodate my check-in time of 21.30. Then they rejected my booking on the morning before I was due to check-in by stating my card details were incorrect, when they were not. 3 calls to booking.com customer services, 6 emails to the Gower House Hotel (who did not respond apart from with the same automated emailand finally cancelled the booking without charge. Highly unreliable, shoddy communications and generally unprofessional service. Booked into an alternative central hotel who could accommodate my check-in time.
Ive added the response from the manager. Outrageous.1no one answered the door after multiple doorbell rings2The man at reception complained to us that we spoke to booking.com instead of ringing the emergency number which was posted on the front door. It quite literally said in case of emergency ring ***, while being stranded outside was annoying it didnt quite constitute an emergency.3No lobby or seating available which was surprising. I dont think Ive ever been to a hotel without a waiting area.4In the first room the bed slats broke when the bed was sat on. It wasnt the actual wood but the plastic parts that hold the slats in.5No sanitary bin in either room we stayed in which is actually a legal requirement.6In the replacement room the floor was wet under foot.7The bedside cabinet was damaged with the veneer peeled off.8The carpet didnt meet the walls.9Air conditioning was broken.10After reporting air con to housekeeping nothing was done, noone made any effort to check it or us.11No hair dryer in the second room.12It was generally worn and low quality.13Only one chair in a triple room. In the original room there was no mirror in the room.14There was an unannounced fire alarm test early on Sunday morning. If it wasnt ab test then its concerning noone came to check we were evacuating or ok. If it was a test then 7.30am on a Sunday is not a good choice.15No staff anywhere, when we tried ringing reception bell no one came. Checking out was us being told to leave the key on the reception desk by housekeeping.16Paper thin walls. This may be due to the building restrictions but something to be aware of.17No hand towels in bathroom.18The nlmattresses were old and you could feel the springs.19The bed frame broke when getting up from sitting (yes a second bedbut this was actually the bed frame.20There was no one around to report to other than housekeeping staff who didnt seem to understand much English which is not an issue in of itself but we cant make someone aware if they dont understand what we are telling them. There wasnt anyone from reception or who was supposed to deal with guests to support them or be referred to if housekeeping couldnt help.
Great location, however the price you pay is only for that because the quality of the room is not the best. Mattress could be better the same as the duvet, the toilet in general good. On the other hand breakfast was included but it was very poor, (coffee or tea, mini croissant and one type of cerealand it would have been better to dont have it. It might sound very decent but for the price is not good at all. Another thing was the service, receptionists werent there all the time, we had to call them if we need it to open the door or for another enquiry, they didnt even care to greet.
Decently priced at £97 for two nights through advanced booking. Quite small, but clean room. WIFI and tea/coffee with continental breakfast. Pleasant and helpful staff. 5 minster walk from Euston Main station and 2 minster from Goodyear Street underground and shops. Would use again for 2 nights. No wardrobe in my room, but probably different with twin/double rooms. Worth enquiring first.
For the price was good. Only 65 Inc breakfast. Great location. Weird smell in room and squeaky bed but for the price just being picky. Great for place to sleep and go out not for romantic getaway
Disappointing experience!Awful service and rude staff (e.g., Breakfast was included in the price - 7:15am I was downstairs- nobody was there- I called them saying that the breakfast supposed to be ready at 7:15am and I am in a hurry for work. A man came holding a croissant within a dirty basket saying that the bread is not ready yet AND that both wf and breakfast are included in the price so they are not obliged to provide them both to the customers🥴). I live in the UK and I have travelled almost all around the world. This was a unique experience!
The experience wasnt great, bed mattress very uncomfortable ,hard pillows squeaky bedframe, so poor sleep ,woke every day with back & neck pain . Only 4 hanger for clothes. Continental breakfast very bland same every day ...
Still awaitong refund for sleeping on floor due to broken bed. Then called a liar. Week long investigation despite sending photo proof of broke. Bed on the first night as no one on reception. Phone records proven too. Useless
Excellent customer service by each and every member of staff. Hotel not for everyone but in all honesty that is clear enough from the start which I did appreciate. Keep up the good work, see you again sometime.
They are extremely understanding and flexible. I was able to cancel and they accommodated me free of charge. Will definitely recommend and hope to stay here soon.
Brilliant stay, friendly staff, clean, rooms cleaned on daily bases. No lift to upper floors. Rooms and corridors a bit hotter than what I would want. Would go there again and would recommend.
I enjoyed staying in this hotel. Rooms were cosy and well organised. All of reception staff were very helpful and nice. Room service staff were not disturbing and friendly. Great location close to Goodge Street station. M&S, Tesco and Sainsburys stores are in a short walking distance.
The wifi doesnt reach the top floor where I was staying. I was 24hrs without internet despite needing to be working (in online meetingsduring my stay. The staff were not helpful in solving the issue. Eventually, after at least 7 conversations I was moved to a smaller, colder room with a broken bed. Im not at all impressed.
I am sorry to have to write this but we have had absolutely horrendous customer service from this hotel - we completely understand that in light of the pandemic the travel industry has been hit very hard and nobody was prepared to handle this, however it could have been done much better. We were supposed to visit the hotel at the end of March - start of April. We booked last year, way before the coronavirus pandemic. The hotel, of course, cancelled our booking due to the coronavirus lockdown. They then offered for us to visit early July which we would have been happy to do. However, we then received no further correspondence from them until the beginning of August. I assume all the staff were furloughed and the hotel closed, however other places we had booked seemed to have at least one person who was monitoring telephones and emails. We then telephoned every single day on the off-chance someone would answer, however they never did. We have also emailed and Facebook messaged. We have eventually got a very brief answer via Facebook messenger but this has since been ignored. On the message, we have been told they cannot offer a refund and we must visit again instead - however the catch is... we have now emigrated to another country and are not planning to return to the U.K.! The hotel are aware of this although still maintain that they cannot refund us. We understand it must be hard for their business however as we have also not been working over £200 is a lot of money to lose!
I was unable to stay because of the covid-19. After weeks of trying to get hold of someone at the location, I finally got a response. I was told that I could not cancel my reservation, but I could rebook it, but only if I stayed there by October 2020. My other accommodations gave me a year to rebook or gave me a full refund. You SUCK!
The location of this hotel was about the only good things about it. Our family of 3 stayed in room 11 with uncomfortable beds, a moldy bathroom, broken shower head and a shower that wouldnt drain. Walls were paper thin and I heard EVERYTHING the people above us were doing. I would have asked for a refund if we were staying long than 2 nights.
Tiny rooms, but clean and tidy. Fit for a 1-2night stay if need to stay close to center. Continental breakfast included. Budget friendly
The hotel is “vintage”... no lift, old fashioned room and almost not working air conditioning. Continental breakfast was included. The good sides of the place are that there was very good free wifi, great service by the receptionist, clean place and great location.
Loved this place. Stayed there for 3 nights and it was great. The breakfast was really good. The people at the front desk were fantastic. Always there, very attentive. Nice quiet location. Close to British museum. Short walk to Piccadilly circus, Trafalgar square, and Oxford street. One downside is that the showers are a bit small.
Positive: great locationNegative: Let me list it:- air conditioning not working. After asking the staff, they told me the technician had “fixed it”. He didn’t .No one bother to check)- shower drain was clogged- bathroom was poorly cleaned- there was only a half toilet paper (which was not even replaced after second day’s room cleaning- no hair dryer at the room- WiFi not working- breakfast was pretty much dry bread. Honestly the worse hotel breakfast I had in my entire life.
Tiny hotel well communicated and located. Nice room with cute bathroom. Breakfast very normal. Attendance very nice. Totally recommended . We will repeat for sure.
Great little gem of a hotel. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Excellent location for getting around but also enough out of the way for a quiet nights sleep. Basic continental breakfast but thats what you pay for. Larger rooms are more than big enough and well equipped with modern and bright decor. Bit of a hike to the upper floor but we only needed to go up and down once a day so no hardship there. We will definitely be back.
We had a lovely stay, however the beds were a bit small. The personnel was incredibly friendly and kind, understanding and helpful. The place is old but beautiful and the bathrooms are very new and elegant. It could do with a little more storage for clothes, we stayed for a week so the closet was a little small. Breakfast was included and more than enough and very good each morning. Everything was very clean. The backyard is marvelous!
Great hotel in the middle of London pretty much walking distance to most sights and attractions. Right next to the British museum. The room was a little small but adequate. Staff certainly friendly and great breakfast in the morning.
A warm week in London makes the quiet back garden and patio at the Gower House Hotel especially welcome--picknicking and bird watching in an urban center-- what could be better? The rooms are compact and comfortable, the bathrooms modernized and compact, and the location cant be beat. The staff are friendly and responsive. A better value than many central London accommodations.
We stayed here on Sunday night 6th May they put us in a downstairs room away from traffic noise but it was still noisy upstairs and outside till at least 1am, we got a cold breakfast no hot food except a bread roll. But the bedroom was lovely had a big mirror a small but long wardrobe it had a mini bar ; crisps tea and coffee; a nice fan and a very clean bathroom
I really liked this little hotel, but it is better described as a bed and breakfast. Our room was very clean, fresh laundered bedding and the shower room / toilet was immaculate. A tiny garden at the back so smokers arent made to feel like lepers.Breakfast was continental, cereals, croissants, pastries and plenty coffee, it was very fresh. The location of the Gower House Hotel is perfect for theatres and shopping. Walking distance from Kings Cross about 20 - 25 minutes. Tottenham Court Road is less than 5 minutes and Dominican Theatre only a 10 minute slow stroll.
I have just returned from a weekend in London with friends, we stayed in the Gower hotel as it was nice and central to the theatre we were visiting (the phoenix). We had a triple room, while it wasnt huge it was big enough for us with a nice little shower room and a view overlooking RADA. Comfy beds and a little mini bar with soft drinks and snacks were available. Staff were lovely and we were able to leave our bags with them when we checked out so we could go and visit the Chinese New Year celebrations without the hassle of heaving our luggage around.Would definitely stay again when next in London.
Excellent central London location within easy reach of tube and RADA studios. Continental breakfast comprised of croissants, Danish pastries, roll, cereal and fruit salad and OJ was surprisingly filling. Room was clean and included toiletries and hairdryer. Woukd definitely stay there again.
Cheap and cheerful hotel in a great location of London. Perfect if you want to visit the British Museum. The room decor is a bit dated and small but the location out weighs it. Staff was friendly and helpful.
This was a reasonably priced hotel considering its location. It was clean. Quiet at night. We had a nice little en-suite in our room (nowhere to place your toiletries but that was minor). Staff helpful and Continental breakfast was included and enjoyable. Short walk to places of interest such as The British Museum, Theatres, shops and restaurants and Underground Station. Would recommend this hotel.
