Govinda's Hotel & Restaurant - Vegetarian restaurant in Chittagong, Bangladesh
As an Indian it’s really difficult to find a pure vegetarian place to dine in and to enjoy the food enriched with spices. Well, this place is the saviour. The food is economical, filling and delicious. The best place to dine in Central London if you are a pure vegetarian.
Accidentally came across this place. They were just about to close for the day.Lovely staffPure vegGood tasteQuick serviceValue for moneyWill def try more dishes next time
I have been to this place many times and the best thing about the restaurant is the ambience. The food quality is excellent with very reasonable price but what adds more the overall experience is the purity of the environment and the vibe of the place.Brilliant options in menu with authentic taste, friendly staff, cleanliness and the aura!!
This restaurant is fav place for dinner outings with friends and families .we have been coming here for various occasions , & celebrations as well. You wont get settled for this place with just one visit because they will ensure that you fall in love with their quality of food and service .Ensure that you always visit a bit early to the place if your planning for a dinner as the place is a bit occupied in the evening , enjoying their meals .We had ordered spring rolls , pappadam , paneer chilly dry , and Thali and Mango Lassi. It is very cost friendly considering the location. All the food dishes were too good and tasty.Washrooms and hand wash sinks are very hygienic and clean. They have extremely good desserts as well.Over all a good experience .
Really good value healthy vegetarian Indian food. We come here a lot. Nice service, nice to be in the heart of Soho and able to eat so cheap. Very good mango lassis.
Soulful meal, with wholesome flavours.Perfect for students missing their home cooked meals. Cant go wrong, if you get a Thali, because you are sure going to love the food.Budget friendly restaurant in London. 100% recommended in London, where there are fewer vegetarian alternatives.
The food is beyond yummy. If it’s your first time order the thali and it comes in either veggie dish with yellow or brown rice - a choice of kidney beans or daal (lentilsor two Sabjis (vegetarian or vegan dishes made on the day so they are different everydayor you can go with chilli paneer or paneer with peas in a creamy sauce. They also do veggie lasagne with samosas and masala chai and a variety of cakes and deserts. I’ve been going to this place for 12 years and it’s not beaten any other veggie Indian restaurant so far in London. If you’re vegan or vegetarian this is your place!
Very nice and friendly staff. The food was very tasty. I really liked the paneer. The bowl itself is very small and the amount of Paneer they put on the bawl was 1/3 of the bowl capacity. At least they should fill the bowls properly. I have attached some pictures for the owner reference. Apart from that very nice people and I recommend this place.
I love this place! Very good tasty vegetarian and vegan food. The atmosphere is nice, you can feel good vibes of energy. Also the prices are very convenient. I really recommend it!
I was impressed when I was told to stand in Queue telling meanwhile you get your order table becomes empty and you can be seated. N we did get to sit immediately as we paid for order.Definitely its the cheapest option being in central london. Expect food to have a home made taste, and not of fancy Indian restaurant. We thought, food was a bit too sour with loads of tomatoes in each dish and chapati was not of whole wheat flour. Understand that it might be because its prepared in bulk, but chapati is paid item and they can certainly do better.
5 stars if not for the monks. The food is good at an excellent price. I didnt appreciate the monks outside. I wouldnt mind them, but they put a book in your hand and then ask for a donation. They should ask for a donation upfront, instead of pressuring you to do it in an underhanded way.
Its okay. A little rushed inside as the queue builds up. Felt a little rushed selecting what I wanted and couldnt hear the lady behind the counter clearly, plus the menu on the back wall is in a small text font. The food is good, tastes home made. Although its not the same tasting food as the Watford Temple food. Also wasnt too keen on the whole take a tray and queue up to get your thali and sit where you want. Theres not really a proper table service and you have to queue back up if you want something more. Also there were too many people outside the restaurant asking forcefully for donations. There is a small Temple upstairs, Im sure people will generously give donation during their prayers. The Temple was incredibly busy, hot and congested. Almost tripped over someones foot. They need a one way system in place to speed it up and avoid any accidents.
This is a great vegetarian restaurant and takeaway with also vegan dishes. It is one of the very few restaurants in the country that does not have onion or garlic in their dishes, saying this the food is delicious. However, this restaurant can get quite busy at times, and as it is an assisted service cafeteria type of restaurant, get a bit crowded. I highly recommend their food even if you are not a vegetarian, as the food is lovely. I will always pop in here to eat whenever I’m in London.
Great gem of a find. If you are looking for vegan option, look no further. They have a lot of choices. Really tasty, authentic and you could get extra items. We opted for the Vegetarian thali which had 5 items and added Punjabi samosa. We got pulao, dal, mixed veg, papadum or bread roll, salad as part of the thali. We then got yummy warm gulab jamuns and Masala Chai to top it off.Overall high value for money, good quality and tucked next to the Oxford Street and Soho square.Never disappoints you.
Very delicious pure vegetarian food available here. Nice staff, good service, reasonable prices. A must go place for having a meal or snack.
Great mouth watering selection of pure vegetarian menu. My pick was a vegetarian pie and vegan cake. Both were beautiful and would recommend it to anyone. The Mataji who served me always had a smile on her face and helpful. Hare Krishna Hare Ram.
One of best restaurants to eat home like food. Very reasonable price and extremely good taste.
Good Resturant for quick reasonably priced vegetarian Thali.
One of the Most delicious Indian Vegetarian Food you will find in London . The food is very High Quality , Mind Blowing and very very Healthy , cooked with Best ingredients. I couldn’t believe the outstanding standard of service , where beautiful Food is prepared and served with love and affection with very high Hygienic standards . Prices are very Reasonable for such a High quality at the heart of central london . I am glad to have discovered this Amazing place . They have Temple on first floor and restaurant is on Ground Floor where the magic happens in kitchen . I would be going there for rest of my life for sure .
Super tasty veg food, very friendly smiling faces. Sneha made me delicious Govinda’s special, thank you!
The Govinda’s is a big meal, probably enough for two smaller people to share. Great for a Friday veggie option!
A hidden gem. Really great curries (try the sweet potato and eggplant!), an unlimited option, and very low prices. Smells and feels like a proper Indian roadside restaurant.Recommended!
Really tasty, cheap, fast, friendly and just wonderful. We came especially for the food and we werent disappointed, well definitely be back and save some room for pudding! Had the thali extravaganza each (2 peopleand it was filling and delicious. Only criticism would have been the bread roll which was slightly dry but it soaked up the juices and the lentil soup, bean pot, curries and sides were lovely. Pakora were very spicy and I enjoyed them a lot. Rose milk and vegan berry lassi were great and for the price, location and friendliness you really cant go wrong.
Yummy vegetarian food in the middle of London in the limits of your pocket. We have been to Govindas three to four times in last couple of years and every time it is a delicious tummy full experience. Seating space may be a crunch however the whole staff have their high standards of smiles and service. The sweet dishes and burgers are delicious too along with the Indian style set menu. Thanks for good food and options of fresh snacks and vegan pies which you cannot get elsewhere.
Delicious vegetarian food with very affordable price.Highly recommended. One of my favourite food spots.
My vegan friend took me here for lunch one day. I walk pass Soho Square all the time, never thought to visit and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. It was absolutely scrummy and excellent value.I like cuisines that comes with lots of small dishes and having a selection of food on my plate was right up my street.Definitely recommend, esp all you veggie and vegan friends out there.
I had unlimited thali which came with 3 curries, Dal, salad, papads, bread and flavoured or tempered vegetable rice.Perfect place to have lunch if you are in Soho and craving for Indian cuisine.
Super tasty, karma free indian food! And its great on the bank ❤️ Solid menu with lots of sides, deserts and drinks. Affordable prices, nice and quick service. Whats not to love
I had a 5star experience today, I did remember to coming here many years ago, so I thought give it a try again. Had a berry lassi, a veggie lasagna and a mango cheesecake. All of them are good choice the lassi was creamy refreshing, the lasagna just like my mother would make it, the mango cheesecake 🥭 🧀 fruity and not too heavy, service was great fast and professional loved that.
Tasty and delicious, very reasonably priced, I love their food, the drinks and the desert, its super vegan friendly. Im a massive fan, if you like options, go for the 8 or 12 plate, theres pretty much everything on the menu there. Get amongst it, you wont be disappointed!
Great vegetarian / vegan food. I always try going here when in London. Food at Govindas is wholesome, hearty & healthy, its a bonus to go for Darshan at the temple.
It’s heartening to see some things remain the same in Soho, Govinda’s Restaurant; one of London’s first vegetarian restaurants, next to, and affiliated with the Hare Krishna temple, opened in 1979. They still serve a mean thali off Soho square at prices that also seem to have been stuck in time. ‘Nutrition for the soul’ they say, “ethically-sourced and karma-free, it’s also offered to Lord Govinda before it reaches your plate.” It was indeed heavenly and a feast was had.
Great restaurant with super affordable thalis and a wide variety of vegetarian food! It’s a great place to grab a quick lunch / dinner. I also really like their mango lassi and rose milk and they have a really good selection of Indian sweets.
Great food, nice staff. Simple home cooked food vibes
Ordered takeaway at Govindas and the Chilli Panner was good but it should be called tomato paneer instead. The rice was fabulous and the other paneer dish (as seen in the photowas really good as well. Would recommend this if you want to have home-cooked style food again :)
This is a great hidden spot for tasty vegetarian Jain food. No garlic and no onions (so paradise for anyone who cant eat those two ingredients!). The staff is friendly and the food is delicious (very affordable too)
It is based just by the corner of Soho Square Garden. The location is prime as it is close to many attraction and shops. The size is decent for friends and family gathering. The environment is very compared to other restaurants. The decoration is unique. Cleanliness at high standard. There comfortable sitting arrangement both indoor and outdoor. The customer service is very friendly. Ordering were easy andtime to serve food was almost instantly. Food quality and serving standard were unique and appealing. I had Govindas and veggie thali, both were good. The best out of all was the sweet and samosa. Enjoy 😊
Hare Krishna…We had a very nice darshan & then we had a very nice vegetarian thali for dinner…nice food must visit
There is no better place for vegetarian food in London other then Govinda’s. They have huge variety and the taste is awesome. Hari Bol!!
Food is lovely and reasonably priced. A perfect veggie treat.
Amazing food served here with pure vegetarian or vegan options - the best dishes by far are the mango lassi and the tofu burger! That burger sauce is out of this world!
I honestly couldnt be more delighted that we visited this place. Its one of the highest rated restaurants in the area and with good reason. The food is honest, clean, home style food that nourishes and leaves you feeling good long after you leave. The restaurant is more a cafe style with trays that you fill with a range of delights. There are vegan options which worked perfectly for me. Ill likely visit whenever Im in this neighborhood. Absolutely fantastic!
Vegetarian delight, if you are in the city and looking for food thats cooked to an exceptionally very high standards and served relatively inexpensive. Great for families with children and visiting family, friends and most importantly for parents from India and subcontinent. You have to experience it to believe it! We loved it today again. Hare Krishna.
Very busy but they very kindly found a table for our family of 4, friendly and helpful staff and fantastic food. Finding a reasonably priced gem like this just off of Oxford St is a massive result! Will definitely be going back.
Pure vegetarian food with incredible thali deals. Even the local office workers flock in during the week and very busy during lunchtime and even weekends. They were closed during COVID19 but now back to normal.I didnt particularly like the juices because they were too sweet for my taste especially the mango juice. Buy lassis are great and so is the buttermilk (savoury).I love the puris and chapatis with veggies and paneer dishes. Very clean, even the toilets!
Really tasty vegan food. Got the veggie thali for £6.95. A good amount of food, doesn’t stuff you but you aren’t hungry either, a perfect amount. I loved each part apart from the salad and it’s dressing. The broccoli and veggies were so flavourful, the daal was delicious. The bread roll was surprisingly good too. I love Indian food but hardly go out to eat it, since the spice can be overwhelming. This wasn’t spicy at all, but soooo FLAVOURFUL. I’m happy I tried the food out, the quiet canteen like seating area just felt a little awkward. It was busy though, so that’s always a good sign of good food :there are also hand washing facilities downstairs by the toilet. Nice and polite staff.
I have been to this place few times and the food quality was really good before but now the food quality is so miserably bad. They have charged £16.90 for such a food where the food was burnt and the vegetables were off(potatoes were off). The curries were oily and watery as if there have just put too much of oil and tomatoes which made the curry taste so sour. I hope they see the reviews and change the quality of the food. As this is a holy place I thought people who cook the food will be making the food with love in the name of god but they are just into business.
Pure and authentic vegetarian food. Was in London on business and wanted food like home and Govindass delivered. Loved the curries, the flavour was amazing, would definitely recommend.
Simple but tasty vegetarian (vegan availablefood in a setting that veers towards utilitarian. Very conveniently located just off Oxford Street. Staff are very friendly. I liked the metal cups with the drinking water station to help reduce plastic. We had the thali - very good, and super filling, reasonably priced - the mango lassi (also good, unfortunately in plastic cup), and the gulab juman (it was ok but not my favourite). Toilets are downstairs and would not be wheelchair accessible but I think wheelchairs should be able to access the main Street level floor.
I normally go there often for buffet, and its good. But I had a too good to go takeaway, and the takeaway box was the saddest food Ive seen in a while (see pic). The box was barely filled, and it was mostly covered by simple salad. Quite dissapointed. I hope this is a one off thing, but I know I wont be going back.
