Pretty amazing meuseum. Highly recommended if you visit cubbon park and love history .
The architecture itself is an amazing artefact to look at
Well maintained and highly informative and entertaining!
Its one of the oldest museum in India, Established on 1865.It has old paintings, sculptures and various music instruments.
Entrance fees is 20rs..Parking for 2hours cost rs 10
Amazing collection of artefacts in very poor condition of upkeep. The display cases are old and not proper. The items are priceless and are almost unkept. There is bad odour and mould in the cases. I am just hoping these pieces are not damaged by the conditions they are kept in. The staff don’t care and it’s a treasure trove going down the drain. I am sure they don’t have the adequate resources to ensure the items are displayed properly when you compare it to Mumbai museums these are just so shabby feel sad of them.
Art Works, Artifacts and Antiquities are found here. History enthusiastics can visit here.Entry fee: 20rs (Adult),10rs (Children)Parking: Cars and Two wheelers slot available.Near by places: UB city, Cubbon park and MG Road.

It is good. Paid parking is available. There are two museums at the same location - (IGovernment museum for historical items. (iiVishweshwaraiya Industrial & Technological museum for science loving people & students. There is no crowd at government museum and tickets can be bought in cash on the spot. There is some crowd at Vishweshwaraiya museum but online booking can be done on the spot and also security personnel guides for online booking.
Has very ancient artifacts, some of them dating to older than 3000 bce. If youre a history enthusiast, this is a very good place. You can find ancient sculptures , inscriptions, ancient civilizationsl tools, weapons, pots, etc. There are 2 floors here, usually less crowded. The ticket cost is also cheap, 40.per adult. It is located right next to the vishweshwarayya museum and ub City in the view. The place is easily accessible by bus routes and auto. Good place to spend for 1 or 2 hours
The Museum in the city right in front of the Karnataka High Court if passing through Cubbon Park. Entry fees was 20
Unfortunate to see this place not get as much attention as the technological museum. There are some amazing archaeological artefacts right from 4000 BC to 1800 AD.However, some of the artefacts need better cataloging.
Reputed to be one of the oldest museums in the country, the Government Museum is a remarkable treasure trove of archaeological items such as stone carvings, pottery, paintings, coins and inscriptions.A prominent attraction in this museum is the first ever recorded Kannada inscription – the Halmidi inscription (450 ADand Atakur inscription (949 ADslabs.Government Museum, Bangalore is open from 10 AM till 5 PM on all days except Mondays.
Its an amazing place for historians. Well find lot of sculptures and inscription stones from Bangalore. It has the famous Begur Hero stone inscription, Halmidi inscription and more. They have placed several herostones around the museum. The building has Corinthian columns and a heritage site in itself.
Really good place to visit. Houses both the department of archaeology and the art gallery. Its the same Rs 20 ticket for both places.
A decent history museum with moderate artifacts. As you enter the periphery there are canons in the front. Ticket here is 20Rs. per person. Inside you fine marvelous two life size Dwarapala idols with amazing details, many potery found in burial sites, bronze notes, paintings, stone age tools, swords etc. First floor has some old musical instruments, and many old paintings. Another section is quite interesting where a whole hall is filled with ancient stone idols. There are some stone sculptures even outside.
Loads of Art Works, Artifacts and Antiquities are found here. You can learn about history! Entry fee is 20rs per person. Theres parking for both Cars and Two wheelers. The place can be much more well maintained.Overall a good place to visit while you are roaming around MG Road.
There are not much artifacts. But the variety is good. From prehistoric (10000 BCto till 20th century they have displayed all major sculptures, paintings, music instruments etc. For entry fee of 20 rupees youll get alot of knowledge about history.
Good place to visit to understand ancient history /culture. Lot of antique with various memories are showcased.
Government museum has a good collection of artefacts collected from across different districts of Karnataka. The display include pottery , arms , wooden crafts , stone sculptures , paintings , musical instruments etc. Entry fee of Rupees 20 is charged for an adult.
Ok place, can be lot better considering the location, the collections are not great
Good place to visit in leisure. Not much information about the history of sculptures
The Government Museum in Bangalore is a must visit not just for tourists, but also local Bangaloreans. The museum was built in 1865 and like State Central Library, is a Pompeian Red stone building. The artefacts there date back many centuries. Don’t miss out on the hero stone at the entrance of the museum.Would definitely help if there was a guide of sorts at the museum.
A very good historic museum situated off MG road. Its just next to the VITM (another nice place to visit). The museum has a lot of artifacts, though some of them have very generic names like bricks, bow and arrow etc. rather than something more specific. Tickets are priced very reasonably too.
The Government Museum in the city of Bangalore is a storehouse of rich historical and cultural significance. Located at the Kasturba Gandhi road.one of the oldest museums in the country is a remarkable treasure trove of archaeological items .The entire premises has well defined boundaries and theres entry fee. The entrance /exit points are well secured. Frequency of dustbins and seaters is low. Theres no facility for washrooms or drinking water supply in around this place. The entire premises is under CCTV surveillance and has been regularly maintained. Worth visiting. Dont miss back side of this museum.Amazing collection of rare, historical artefacts, though they were not preserved behind physical barriers like glass or railing, that may call for potential vandalism.Talking about accessibility its quite challenging for disabled to get inside the building as theres no ramp at the entrance. Theres no railings either. The entrance portion has no seaters or shady place which is not good. There no restrictions with respect to age. Children should be under the guidance of any adult as most sculptures are not having a fixed support which might be dangerous. For people to access first floor theres only stairs which might be little hard for aged. But its worth the visit and the ambience is quite calming and relaxing.
I have visited this place twice. Last Sunday I had a visit with my foreign friend, to let him know about our beautiful history. I hope he liked. Personally I too liked the collections here, but I would suggest if they can more details, more antiques, more historical things. I have been to many museums, the Chennai museum was really great. So here if the management can try for making it more informational and interesting. The building from outside is beautiful though.
Its a great place, there are two museums next to each other, the science and historic museum. This is the historic one.The entry fee is ₹20 for adults and ₹10 for kids as on Feb 2021 and there is ample parking space. It was a nice time to see so many ancient things, the sulptures and paintings etc. Its a must visit place if you enjoy historical museums.
Good place. There is a lot of historical things. You have to buy a ticket and go inside and then you get the opportunity to sita historical things. Behind the museum there is a park.If you ever come Bangalore then go to the government museum and enjoy the place.
this is great musium in banglore with very old traditional statue and sculpture preserved even today which add value to goverment musium, the goverment musium is adjaccent to visvaisraiya technological musium just opposite to UB city corporate office ,this musium still preserved so many antique statue those who love history must come at once to see the beauty and the information for the knowlege of art and science of an old era this place closed at 5pm so be hurry rather reach early if you want to study and understand more minutly the details of the old things like art and craft of old era the place just situated beside main road which help you to visit at very nominal coast and mobile is allowed so you can click pic inside the gallery ,having washroom for ladies and gets sepratly for hygiene, due to covid they maintain the govtguideline as specified No mask No entry in this museum.
Visited today. But museum is closed because of Covid. And not sure when it will be open. You can roam around and take some pics but inside the building you will not able to visit.
Trust me there is not much to see. All the sculptures are good only. Fee of them are broken.
Loved this place, beautiful architecture and great collection of ancient history of Karnataka.
Wonderful sculpture must visited recommended for ancient view 😊 chill out place
Its housed in a brightly painted in a wonderful red building with green doors and windows. Entry fee is just a nominal Rs 20 for Adults and Rs 10 for Kids, worth every penny.Museum access is roughly spread out in 3 Main Areas, Ground Floor Main houses everything from pottery, lifestyle, utensils to weapons, 3D scaled city models, etc. The Second Floor houses many a paintings styles from across India, more so of Mysore style. The access from Ground to First floor is through 2 spiral granite cut staircases, I guess a single block of granite, found that to be extremely interesting. There is a small walkway to the area housing sculptures.Various Sculptures of Gods, Goddesses and Buddha / Mahavira, Social rituals, Processions, Inscriptions etc can be found. Outside the Museum also one can find few beautiful sculptures. Photographs are permitted without additional charges, though lights coming through the European era windows could be a challenge. The Museum Office is on the ground floor, and the only hiccups that I noticed were the missing of quite a few artifacts and paintings for restoration or maintainance. Also the exhibiting cases havent been changed in a long while, including lights. The Staff and Museum Directors are accessible and approachable. Willing to help. Another flow could be that there are no washrooms or toilets open to public that I saw in the Main Building. With the Rs 20 or Rs 10 tickets one can also visit the Venkettapa Art Gallery just besides.
Government museum bangalore, the second oldest museum in South India. The museum is a storehouse of rich historical and cultural significance. It established in 1865 by the Mysore State with the guidance of Surgeon Edward Balfour.
Government Museum established in 1865 by the Mysore State with the guidance of Surgeon Edward Balfour who founded the museum in Madras and supported by the Chief Commissioner of Mysore.
A well maintained museum with artefacts from the Old Stone Age, Mohenjo Daro, and the South-Indian dynasties. You can also find the Halmidi inscription, the earliest kannada inscription discovered. The same ticket can be used to visit the Venkatappa art gallery right next to it. People with great interest in history might be disappointed with the short descriptions of the artefacts.
Impressive quaint red heritage building on Kasturba Road more than 150 years old. If you love art, history and heritage this is a must visit. With the Rs 20 entry ticket one can also visit the art collection having amongst others some find Ten more paintings and wooden sculptures at Venkatappa Art gallery which is in the same premises and one leads to another. Archaeological findings comprising of pottery, sculptures, armaments, coins and scriptures dating back to Neolithic age can be found at the museum. Some amazing sculptures of prehistoric times well preserved makes it a must visit when coming to Bangalore for a visit. Good for children too to make them aware of our rich history and culture. Open from 10 am to 5 pm
Beautiful place and a rejuvenation spot for art and historys lover.
The best place for a person inclined towards knowing more about history. The ticket price is 50/-. And this includes the government museum, Venkatappa Art Gallery, Painting gallery, Sculpture museum etc. Also has a hotel inside for having a quick lunch while you explore beautiful sculptures.Worth the time and money.
"One thing which i dont like is the lack of good description on the artifacts.""Poor service from the staff.""Good place for find different types of sculpture work.."
Small but good museum, advantage is there is an art gallery & an industrial museum nearby & all can be visited at a time.
Amazing place to visit for both ur kids and youngster lot to learn and see its huge having 3floors catering to different branches of science like physics, biology and stuff must visit its fascinating place.
Perfect collection of Antiques and placing around the museum was awesome and the maintenance is too good.Worth visiting. Dont miss back side of this museum.
If one wants to understand ancient time in short time must visit the place.
A very well maintained museum especially for history buffs, it is neatly kept and the building itself is a historical one. Audio guides that can be downloaded are also provided by them.
Another one of those museums where someone walks up to you and doesnt allow you to take photos indoors. Their restrictions are so out of sync with modern times. They have a few statues outdoors, which can be photographed.
Didnt get a chance to go inside as the place closes by 5 30 pm..but the facade of the building and various sculptures and artefacts placed outside were beautiful..
Situated beside its technical counterpart, the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technical Museum, this is a gem of a place. This museum exhibits artifacts that are worth your time. The building itself is very beautiful in its grandeur.
