Snug, cheery all-vegetarian eatery serving up a menu of Gujarati-style Indian fare, plus a buffet.
Amazing Gujarati food at very good price and their whole staff is female maybe that’s their usp ,staffs nature is so good they all will treat you like your family.
All food made by aunties, feels like home made foodHot Rotis, Puran Pooli and Chaas are my favorite.Another good thing Pani Puri. The whole restaurant is vegetarian so no meatRest everything is good 👍
Worst experience I have ever had in canada. They don’t know customer greetings, service especially old lady who have white hairs, very rude with customers.I’m washroom area the store the food. Strongly not recommended
This restaurant takes me back to the streets of rural Gujarat I had visited years ago. The simplistic setting compliment the food which is pure bliss and that is paired with the warmth of the hostess. They serve simple home cook meals which unlocks nostalgic memories. If you love Gujarati food this is the place to go.
Quite crowdy place if youre looking to grab a date there. But wonderful food otherwise. Authentic taste at such affordable rate.
Food is really good so one has to book your spot before, but washroom space is very small.
Omg, we specially came from montreal to eat. First and foremost, both aunty was so rude. Food is ok but waiting for roti was like 15 mints. No proper management, no proper space to eat. Pathetic 🤢
The best best best Gujju food ever. My heart is full like the efforts each and every women working there puts, that you cannot witness anywhere. Trust me. Hands down to those people.
The food is authentic Gujarati cuisine. The service is good. The food can be served little hot as per the prevailing cold weather.
So here is my take. When the restaurant tries to accommodate a large selection of dishes in $17 per head, the quality of food is compromised. The lack of quality food is ignored because the taste is good. Veg food does not always mean going to a budget restaurant, but it should be your call. Trust me the taste is really good 😊Must one timer visit (for me), but should be careful if you take this food frequently as your gut is your gut.
Best Gujarati Food in whole world...Me being a Pushtimargiya Vaishnav was very happy to see a big Shrinathjis photo at the main door... And the name Govardhan is icing on the cake for Vaishnavs...Talking about food, it includes unlimited buffet of 5-7 sabzis, daal dhokli, kadhi, daal (sweet, daal (without sweet/jaggery, papad, bhaji pavs Bhaji sabzi, Pani puri...Im an ethical Vegan since 3 years so they gave me rotis without Ghee... The only things I couldnt eat were its sweet dishes : my fav Mohan Thaal, gulab jamun n 1 more... I wish they gave a Vegan version of them but its too much to ask considering the price of the thali.. .Overall must must visit restaurant, especially if youre in Toronto/Scarborough...
Amazing experience eating authentic Gujarati thali at this great place. Another great thing about this place is that its run by a bunch of hard-working entrepreneurial women 👏🏼😊
Amazing buffet. Reminded me of home. Hot rotis and theplas is brought to the table. Great value for money! Must try it out.
Rotis / theplas etc are great. Lunch is definitely great here. Everything is fresh.Caution: do not ever take any curries home for dinner. They are guaranteed to be stale. Atleast 15 people I know had to throw the food coz they weren’t smelling fresh.
One of the best eateries in town for vegetarian Indian food. The food is always prepared fresh. The staff is patient, friendly and helpful. The variety of authentic food makes it difficult to choose what to get. Dine in or take out Im sure anyone who eats from here will have a huge smile on their face and will come back for more.
Full stop 🛑 for just Gujarati food at Ontario @ Scarborough.Initial promptus thoughts that start ringing in your mind as you see and enter this restaurant makes you jittery. Narrow entrance, entryway full with occupants standing, narrow aisles to steer your way inside, till you pick up your plates and squeeze/ steer your way ahead each food delicacies placed on table tops. Here is the twist. You need two plates to take all served items on the long platform. With one plate stocked with 2 to 3 steel bowls & spoon leaves minimal space for even one serving! So stocking your choice items you go to your alloted seating area.As you start savouring each item at slow pace, same takes an acceleration and all agonies and hurdles you faced on entering and reaching here just evaporate! To sum up , so yummy and tasty Gujarati good with a very wide and large options of all ie starters, Panipuri’s, farsans, almost 8 types of vegetables ( each very tasty, got roties with bonus of ‘puran puri’ , dal rice and 4 to 5 sweet supplements each surpassing one another.Set aside all your apprehensions and doubts, just walk in to have an sumptuous full Gujarati food thali. The staff takes full care to provide hot roties and other food items. Once you roll on with food served, forgiving the lack of a few things and items shall come naturally.Kudos to their staff and team for providing a rich and warm Gujarati food experience at Ontario, Canada.Enjoy your turn.Another visit after an span of 5 months, 24 sept, this too a family food experience.Again they deserve and earn all stars for food served. Positive improvement and vibes seen on better aligned seating’s coupled with assistance for seat allocation and all round help and coordination. You really feel welcomed and again huge thanks to their team for providing an sumptuous Gujarati thali food.So whenever you think or plan for an Gujarati thali eat out, Goverdhan Thal restaurant can surely be your preferred and chosen destination.Enjoy.
Todays experience - buffet cost -18$, food is fine, I had to wait like 40 mins due to queues. POINT TO NOTE -their care for food seems absent, I was left with a chapati and curry so asked for a box to pack it but the guy right away denied, being in downtown whenever in get together we had any left overs restaurants helped with packing facility so this is really abnormal, request you to please improvise on this.
We came from BRAMPTON AND booked a spot at 7:30pm on Labour day and we were given our table at 8:15 pm. Even though we booked, we waited for 45 minutes. The food is tasteless and not up to the expectations. The owner aunty is nice but the service and vibe is not up to the expectations. I hope they improve their game bcz there are a lot of gujarati thali places in Mississauga and Brampton who are above them.
Great food with over 25 dishes. It all feels like delicious home made food with. Full run by Gujarati ladies its a great place for Gujarati food. The ambience is not great, but the awesome food makes you ignore that at the first bite.
A big disappointment was eating lunch at the Govardhan Thal restaurant on Markham road. A small tiny cramped place with the buffet running down one side of the restaurant, the first thing that invited attention was that this is not a place which is maintained. It seemed to be a very busy restaurant with lots of take outs. Local eaters means good food generally but this restaurant was not. Tried everything but the only few dishes that stood out were the cholla, the pani puri, the dahi kadhi and the rice. Asked for Puriss but was told that they were out of sticky. (at 12.30 noon timeThe chapatis were too tough to handle. At 18$ a thali, I have had much better. Oh and please dont use their washroom. Its slippery as hell and you could land up with an injury. The only relief were the smiling servers. God bless them.
I loved their unlimited buffet for dinner. Mouth watering gujarati food made with so much love. One can not get enough of it. Took me mentally back to Ahmedabad. Great service. So many options. Highly recommend if you are looking forward to explore gujarati cusine. I really hope they can keep up their amazing reputation. Lots of love.
Best Indian desi food, Unlimited food at $ 18
First of all, thumbs to the amazing women who run this tight (pun intendedship.Having eaten at a few Gujarati joints, the food was amazing both in terms of taste, variety and value.Due to the limited number of spots and the large size of dining parties, it took us around 30-40 minutes to get seated despite having a booking. The lady managing the entrance was nice and accommodating. The buffet model in such a tight space with a lot of moving customers and staff members moving supplies to me was a bit overwhelming.Overall I would still go perhaps this time a bit more prepared and with a smaller group on a weekday 🥰
The food over here is impeccable. If you are craving authentic gujarati Indian food but are on a budget this is a must go to place. There is not a single thing worth regretting when you visit the restaurant. The space can seem a little cramped but you wont notice that when you have the food on the table. Never seen so much variety of food offered in one thali in Toronto area. The place may seem small but has a huge potential to tickle your taste buds.
The best Gujarati thali in Toronto. Be there 5 minutes before the restaurant opens, gets super busy within minutes. Definitely going here here again!
Though not a Gujrati, this place reminded me of home. Their food is incredible. The thali is a buffet and you can get all sorts of authentic Gujrati food. It is vegetarian of course. Their warm theplas, aamras and dahi vadas deserve special mentionThe only caveat being that it is a small place and can be over occupied pretty quick. So you need to plan your trip. The staff are all ladies and they are friendly. All in all, it was a great experience and I hope to go back soon!
It’s our first time trying Gujarati food at Govardhan Thal & I must say the food was amazing.! You will not regret coming here for desi Gujarati food..! We enjoyed the unlimited thali with lots of options to chose from, great for people looking for Swaminarayan options. The service was great & I would definitely recommend the place!
We went on for dinner and the food here was really great, it was like home cooked comfort food. The buffet is the one to go for and they have so many varieties of vegetarian dishes. The cuisine is from Gujarat a part of North west India.
We booked our spot a couple of hours before. This place is famous for Indian Gujarati vegetarian cuisines. The Thali is a buffet and you cannot accommodate all the food in one plate. Try not to waste food and take small servings at a time. But I bet youll not be able to find better taste than this in Canada. The staff is amazing and their hospitality is great, though the main lady with grey hair can change her attitude a little bit.
This restaurant serves best Gujarati food in the town, the taste of food is so good reminds the taste of Gujarat. Must try restaurant if you are craving for authentic Gujarati taste with lots of variety.
We went there for dinner around 6:30 PM and I am not exaggerating if I say that it was THE WORST dine in experience in Canada. The food tasted stale. All the curries were cold and not even covered with a lid. The staff was untrained and talking within themselves very loudly, seems the owner did not care about the experience. Also, the dishes were not done for long and stinking. A bag of onions was just placed outside the washroom. Really dont understand how they got license to run restaurant. Only good thing was Garam Rotali.PLEASE IMPROVE.
First of all, Great restaurant for Gujarati community here around GTA. I’ve visited 2 times and overall experience was really good. One suggestion to them to have kind of 2 options for all the curries( sweet/ non sweetas not all the person are used to eat sweet curies. Second time I’ve visited with my non gujju friends and they were right on their thought that Gujarati’s eat sweet food only. But the truth is not all the subjis should be sweet( most of them were sweet). Prices are great. You will not find buffet that cheap anywhere. Overall nice place to visit.
Must try if you’re craving authentic Gujarati food. I was able to try so many gujarati snacks and curries in one sitting.Pro tip: don’t go crazy on the snacks like I did, the curries were really good too. And I had no room for sweets either.Ps. Rotis are made fresh and are brought to the table. They have takeout options too for snacks, thalis and rotis!
Delicious Gujarati food with great service and variety. Definitely recommend it!
I tried this place with my friend and I really enjoyed the food, ambience and staff as a Gujarati. I will definitely recommend this place to every Gujarati people as all the cooks are Gujarati aunties and they cook you food with love and it will definitely taste awesome.
This place is good for vegetarian Gujarati food. Specially their buffet. So much options and they serve fresh chapati. The staff are nice and the service is awesome. The seating is limited, so its good to avoid the peak time.
Great Home like and quality food ... Eat to your stomachs delight and at fractional cost.Must visit !!! Considering the rush, do book in advance
Food : Full of deliciousness and love…JK. If you love vegetarian Indian food and can handle strong flavours and it will always want you to come back . Plus if you go with all you can eat options be prepared for the food coma.Ambiance: If you are claustrophobic think twice. But it is a loving atmosphere inside, so you will survive.Transaction speed: Sorry you have to respect the lady’s in their. So might take anywhere 10-25min. So to enjoy the experience come early or be lucky.Wondering why 5 star, because the food is just delicious.Sorry every time I am in there I forgot to take the picture may be the aroma’s are hypnotic.
Govardhan Thal does Gujurati food better than anywhere else in the city. A wide array of vegetarian dishes served as an all-day buffet along with fresh and hot phulka roti, puran poli, and various other kinds of flatbreads. From undhiyu, dhokla, khandvi, mattar paneer, and pav bhaji to Gujurati dal, batate ka sabzi, kadhi and aamras - youre going to be spoilt for choice. Authentic Gujurati food that (if youre an Indian like mewill have you missing home and yet feel like you never left :)
I usually go there whenever I have time and when I miss home. The affection that everyone gives you will make you feel at home. All the women working there are an example and the food is an absolute gift.Super yummy and healthy.I usually insist people to go and visit the place and they always thank me later.
Good place for Indian/Gujarati food. Its very budget friendly too. Its mostly frequented by college students residing near by.As others have pointed, its super crowded and also the ladies at the counter are at times rude if you are not a regular. Reminds me of similar experiences back home. And being in Canada, this is important to me. Wish the customer service was better.
This is my first time to come here, I know I will come back soon. Not a big fan of Indian food but I love their food and also friendly staff. My friend an I had a great time there. Thank you.
Best Gujarati food !!! So many varieties of snacks, currys and sweets. I visited this place many times and loved it. Theplas, Puran Puri and Bajra rotla were really good. All the Ladies working in the kitchen are really nice and always welcoming. This place is always busy, its a small place so sometimes its uncomfortable to Dine in.
Amazing taste, very cost effective. Please skip previous night dinner if planning to have lunch here..
Awesome experience. Best ever Gujarati food in Canada. Must visit to get a original taste of Gujarat. Best service with unlimited food Thali.
We found this place by luck and decided to dine in. What tempered me to indulge in a Unlimited Gujrati Thali was the fact that these women make fresh Rotis, Methi Theplas, Puran Puri & Bajra Rotla in front of you and as per order. The rotis and Theplas were thin and so tasty. The idea of someone serving fresh hot roti straight from the gas is simply Devine and such a luxury.5 Stars for that only !!!The variety and food was delicious. They had multiple starters or Farshan and 4/5 different types of vegetables/ bhaji and two types of dals along with Gujrati dahi kadi and then an array of desserts 😍😋This was blissful indulgence !The food was prepared and served with so much warmth and love. The owner Bina ben along with all women crew run this amazing eatery. They sell snacks and Farshan too.Love the variety in the buffet and the fact that it’s unlimited. One can choose and pick according to their taste and preferences for a decent price. They have a more extensive menu in the weekends. We are and left buying some snacks for home. Being from Mumbai and having 90% friends all Gujrati I do miss the food.A definite must for all who love and miss good authentic Gujrati food and hot freshly made rotis and Theplas.Omg can’t wait to go back again!!
If you are craving for authentic gujarati good (homelike, no fancy foodthen this is the go to place... Some really nice assortment of famous Gujju veg food... Go for their buffet, its all worth the price and time! :)
*Visited twice so far, all I can say is*No matter of which part of the world you are from. If you are staying in Toronto, must visit this restaurant,, it will remind you of your home. Gujarati ladies working there makes every kind of meals very deliciously❤️ and it will remind you, your Mother. Go for Lunch or dinner, you will served Hot Chapatis, Rice, Dal, various Sabzi(sand none the less, sweets😍 they are mesmerising and mouth-watering🤤🤤Keeping the food and the place hygiene is the first priority. They make everything with heart, as they are making it for their own children🥺🥰🥰
I have not even single word for complement. You should definitely go there and try it.Food was awesome. The taste can make you think of india. They have varieties of curries, chapati , appetizers. They served really well.Must Go.
I decided to try this place out because I had heard good things about their Vada Pav. I stopped by for a quick snack, it did not disappoint! Their Vada Pavs are well made and are actually pretty spicy! To top it all off you honestly cant beat the amazing price of $1.25 per sandwich. This restaurant is tucked away in this small plaza and is run by two very nice Gujarati Aunties. If youre looking for home cooked Gujarati Food, this is definitely the place to go. They have a large selection of vegetarian dishes in their self serve buffet.Definitely an ideal spot for homesick students in the area.I would come back here to grab Vada Pav snack the next time Im in the area.
