Good, open spot for seeing some relics from the previous century, some train bogeys and open tracks to walk on. They have museums but you need a ticket to enter. The road to the museum is quite wretched though.

Nice glimpses of Railway History here. There are 2 Galleries NOT 1.Many people people only visit 1 probably due to discourteous museum staff. One should visit both as 1 ticket is valid for both.

Golra Railway StationEvery child dream is to grow up either to fly an airplane or drive a train engine. Everyone of us had owned a train set, in different shapes or sizes. We still have the fascination, while driving on the highway, and are happy to see a train go by.Long time ago, when a railway department senior officer retired, he made a decision to collect all the old train carriages, engines, equipment, cutlery, uniforms, signals and communication devices, and brought them to Golra Railway station. If you still fancy to see trains and history of Pakistan-India railway legacy, do visit this still functional railway station.Golra railway station is just 13 km from main Islamabad, easily accessible after sector F11.

The Golra Sharif Railway Station, located on the outskirts of Islamabad near F-13 area.• It was on "Places to See List". However due to various commitments, I was not able to visit this picturesque and serene place.• After a drive of about 35 minutes from Chaklala, I reached the railway station. It was a sunny day and the railway station presented a fantastic panoramic view of old banyan trees, steam engines, a small Victorian-style building.• I saw 1881 engraved on the building as the year of construction/establishment of this beautiful railway station. The same upgraded to a junction in 1912. This Railway Station has been used by the residents of the surrounding villages for over a century.• The Golra Sharif Junction railway station lies on the main line of the Pakistan Railways which connects the rest of the country in the south and Peshawar in the north. More than 20 trains pass through this station every day.• Today, the Golra Sharif Railway Station is known more for the Railway Heritage Museum it houses than for being a stop for travellers.• The Golra Railway Museum was established in October 2003. It is not confined indoor hall only. Though it has two galleries where different relics and memorabilia are placedold, many locomotive, steam engines, and lifters and bogies are displayed outside at the platform.• I could see many families who had come to visit this place to spend good time together. Few youngsters had also come to see old heritage of Pak Railway. I was told that Schools and colleges also arrange trips to this place.• One can visit both galleries at cost of Rs 50 as entry fee. Additional Rs 50 are required to be paid for visit of train bogies which were under use of Last Viceroy Lord Mountbaten and Maha Raja of Jodhpur.• Good thing for visitors is that there is no restriction on taking photographs n making video using cellular phones or DSLRs.Summary of few things as highlighted above is given as follows:-° Amazing Peepal/banyantrees to be 125 years old° A narrow-gauge steamengines which are atleast ahundred years old.° A model of a diesel trainengine, which is used byPakistan Railwaysnowadays, at the platform ofGolra Sharif Railway Station.° A British period lifter isstationed at the Golra SharifRailway Station. These lifterswere used to load and unloadthe goods on trains and toclear the tracks in case ofaccidents.° A British period lifter isstationed at the Golra SharifRailway Station. These lifterswere used to load and unloadthe goods on trains and toclear the tracks in case ofaccidents.° A broad-gauge steam engine° The galleries have myriadsof old equipment which hasbeen diligently and carefullypreserved.~ A model of a broad-gaugesteam engine.~ 3D models of Tea stalls, porters and Khojjak Pass.~.~ The electric heater which isclaimed to be in personaluse of the last Viceroy ofIndia, Lord Mountbatten. The weight of this smallheater is approximately 20kgs.~ Electric fans which wereused in railway offices.• Keys of Lucky Train (Refugee Train 2and photograph of Major retired Rafi are also preserved who had been assigned the responsibility of this train from Delhi to Malir Cantt. This train under Major Mohammad Rafi (latebrought 1200 migrating muslim passengers from India to Lahore on December 5, 1947 after a tiring 19-day journey. The officer was from Corps of Ordnance who left his parents and siblings in India and came to newly created country with his wife Chand Bibi, which speaks his profuse love for Pakistan. To give tribute to him for his services, PR authorities visited house of his wife and presented her shield and a shawl in September 2021.• The history also witnessed Pir of Golra (Babu Geeenjoying watching trains. It was his hobby and he quoted " Engines are better than us, they burn themselves but get the passengers to their destination"

One of the most beautiful Railway StationThe Golra Sharif Railway Station, located on the outskirts of Islamabad, provides a glimpse into the past. A tarmac road leads to the station but in the end, you need to ask your way around. The station welcomes visitors with its panoramic view of old banyan trees, steam engines, a small Victorian-style building, and a serene environment.Established in 1881 and upgraded to a junction in 1912, the Golra Sharif Railway Station has been used by the residents of the surrounding villages for over a century.Pictures were taken by me.

A must visit place, well preserved railway equipment, the station itself was built in 1880s, BTW there is a small hall and then there is a big hall, both can be visited on a single ticket, the condition of the road to get to the Station is poor though.

A very decent place but underestimated. In there i saw things to which our emotions are attached being a national. For example the key of a train carriage that was used to free pakistani prisoners held in a train, the old British Lanterns they work on kerosene oil, old guns "Bandooq" used by PT railway gaurds. Also there are many gadgets that were first of their kind specially imported from Germany and Britain for example world first ampere meter, voltage meter, i also saw a small mechanical computer like calculator. But unfortunately when I entered the place, it was so abandoned, no one was there, at first i could not figure out where to go where is the entrance bcz all lights of the building were switched off. Then a guy was sitting, he was the keeper there, he issued a ticket for 20 rupees, turned the lights on and then the place came alive.Unfortunately i do not have photos of things there but the two photos that includes me also😅 so bear me in the pics. Attached.

It was a delight to visit Golra Railway station Museum, Islamabad. Not only it was recreational and educational but a pleasant surprise to see extremely well maintained facility with efficient staff and cooperative guides. The visit to saloons was an additional treat. It was like cruising through history especially loved the Quaid e Azam s coach. Very neat and clean environment. One can spend a day with family and children. Equally good to visit with friends or come in groups. Ticket is just 10 rupees but the experience is worth a million....

It is a beautiful place to visit. One of the major railway stations in Islamabad. We learnt about the railway history and could explore the old steam engines used in the past. Loved the banyan tree next to the station. Not easy to find the place but people know if we ask for Golra Sharif station. The headmaster gave us the tour and was very informative. Highly recommended.

Worth the visit to see how this was an important part to the railway and the region over a hundred years ago.Small museum and well preserved. The stock is displayed outside and if you time it right you will see a few trains pass through and stop. The buildings date back to the late 1800’s. The trees that stand on the platform are phenomenal and over a hundred years old.A very well preserved station.
