Down-home American eatery offering hefty plates of breakfast & lunch fare in a strip-mall setting.
Back in the days this was a really good restaurant , the food was cook so good! its been a few years since I ate a meal at this restaurant but this Saturday 09/24/22, we decided to have a birthday breakfast here about 7 of us when I TELL you the food taste awful believe me its awful it was disgusting pancakes was so cold and soggy they taste like they made the food ahead of time like maybe the day before, the water was warm and it taste like and smell like swap or dirty dish so did the soda ,eggs was over cook some was under cook and very runny burnt bacon, I ordered a vegetarian omelette I promise you could not look at it and see a omelette it looked like anything but a omelette it look like an mess throw together will on that note NO more golden Skillet for ME!!! but the waitress was nice ,$90.00 dollars for that food NO more , NO Thanks ... maybe they should change the name to Rusty Skillet!!!
Have been going there many times.Love the Breakfast Burrito.Food always hot, good servers.
Good food. Reasonably priced good service
Food is always tasty they do a great job. Best place around for breakfast, very reasonable also.
Fast friendly service alwaysFood delicious
Good was good and service was fast. Prices were great.
Great service and good food that doesnt hurt the pocket. Chef does need to learn the proper way to cook a steak though. Our server Emani took care of business.
Small mom and pop place that can cook a mean crisp country fried steak and Spicy jalapeno omelette. Only thing I would say is you have Tabasco, Coulutha, now just get some Louisiana hot sauce even if it is a few kept in the back upon request.
Great tasting, well priced food. I am a regular.
Great food terrific staff and cheap all one needs these days
Nice Ma and pop place to eat first time eating there food was good and service was good.
I’m a huge fan of small diners. This place has the best breakfast. Super friendly staff.
I usually come to this little local restaurant for breakfast. I think they have the best price around the area and the food, service and speed never disappoints. I recommend this place to bring your whole family for breakfast or lunch.
This is a great cozy little place many people dont know about. The food is really good and prices are very inexpensive compared to other places.
Amazing food as always! Great service and best of all, awesome prices!!
They claim they open at 6am but told me I had to wait 20 minutes 4 the grill to warm up so I left and will never be back Randalls is a lot better any way
My friend used to live not far from this place, so wed go every so often for breakfast before wed start our daily adventures, and we came back yesterday after attending the All American Grooming Show and it was so nice to be back. The food is always so good and service moves at a good pace; the servers are nice as well. Ive always been pleased with what Ive ordered and Im happy with the prices as well. I dont believe Ive spent over $20 there. If Im ever in the area, Ill be stopping by to have some more of the wonderful food.
Nice neighborhood family oriented restaurant. Very nice and friendly staff and good food, will go there again.
Always have a good meal there the omelet was light and fluffy and so tasty. Staff always nice 👌
Looking for inexpensive breakfast/diner-type food? Then this is the place to be. Portions are great for the price that youll be paying.
Great food, down home atmosphere, with friendly service and good prices
Went in and got a delixe club and it was delicious. The crispy bacon, juicy tomato, crunchy lettuce hit the spot. The side salad was so simple but surprisingly amazing. The whole meal was great plus the service was very friendly. Location is defineltly a hidden gem.
1st off who doesnt enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning? It was a greeting I enjoyed. Was met with a smile and fresh cup of Joe. Not too much going inside but the atmosphere was nostalgic. Very clean. Food is cooked to order Fresh. You can taste and appreciate the difference. They ground theyre coffe there..nicccee. Chris the cook took care of me personally and it was a awesome experience. The staff very attentive and verbal. Ill be coming back and suggest if you live around area and want some good simple homecooking and great hospitality, you NEED to stop by.
First time in that place, what a wonderful surprise!! Food was awesome, big portions, and the staff very helpful and nice. Give them a chance, you wont regretted.
Wasnt happy the cook had no mask on,and watched him pour coffee with no mask to afull counter of people sitting less than 2 feet apart from each other. I thought we were practicing social distancing!
Great little breakfast spot. Very clean and theyll cook to your exact order...diced jalapenos, crispy potatoes....you name it, they can and will do it!
This is probably one of the most low class restaurants in Elgin. The prices are super cheap because the quality of the food is cheap which is not always bad. Me and my family used to eat there for years until we found a large roach by the window. Even though we decided to give the place another shot, we found another one climbing up the wall right next to my husbands shoulder. When I brought it up to the owner he acted like he didn’t care and just told us our food was free and just went back to the kitchen. Besides the bug infestation, it gets super hot to where family and I started sweating While we were eating which was super uncomfortable to the point where I wanted to just take my food to go. I don’t know if there was a problem with the AC unit but weeks later my friend went to eat there and had the same problem. And to top it off, when I ordered my scrambled eggs with cheese they didn’t even bother mixing the cheese in OR melting it they just put it on top... I also asked for my hashbrowns to be crispy and they were barely even cooked. I then complained about the hash rows and then they sent back burnt hashbrowns. It’s like they didn’t care if we were satisfied with our meal or not. The wait staff is friendly but they’re always on their phones which is not ok especially when your table needs something like I waited about 5 min to ask for my food to be fixed.Unfortunately won’t be going back. It just doesn’t taste the same anymore :(
Meh, based on reviews had hi hopes for a tasty breakfast, asked for Eggs over medium, hash browns extra crispy. Eggs were over done hash-browns under done. Sausage links burnt like they were recooked. Toast was good. Service was good.
No matter how you order your eggs they are fried, to the point that it makes the egg rubbery, enjoy. Burnt hashbrowns with cold centers allows you to really taste that fresh freezer burn. As you enjoy breakfast feel free to glance about. Pay paticular attention to pealing paint by the windows and wonder how in this day in age did they manage to find lead paint. Debris from lack of cleaning has kept it for the most part together so take care not to touch. Follow the stained floor to the one and only restroom that right off the main dining area, it so convenient. As you ask your fellow patrons to allow passage to the facility, remember the walls are thin, so no #2. The staff is really friendly so dont take it out on them, theyre doing the best with what they have.
Very good meal and extremely quick. My food was prepared without milk, cheese, and butter due to my allergies. They were attentive to it and performed flawlessly. I was most surprised when the skillet and hash browns managed to get done before the toast. Its rare to see that kind of speed. Definitely a favorite if I find myself needing a meal in Elgin.
This is a gem of a place, we forget where they were located. The pancakes are thin and fluffy and very tasty. Our waitress was great and my gypsy skillet was also good, it was a good experience. We Will have to try them again sometime.
Very nice neighborhood restaurant. Get there before 3PM thats when they close. Food was delicious, nice portions and family friendly. PepsiCo on tap and French vanilla coffee creamer for those who prefer that taste. I recommend you give them a try. 😋🍽
I have lived in Elgin my whole life, and I never ate here. I decided to take my boys out for breakfast before school. When we arrived, the restaurant looked like it might need a update. It felt like one of those restaurants when you’re on a road trip. May I add I’m is a big fan of those restaurants. You can tell they care more about their food then there look. Our waitress was Cheryl; she was very sweet to our boys. You can tell she worked there for a long time because she knows a lot of the guest by name. I love that!!
This is the best little towney diner. Food is reliably delicious. My guy had the perfectly cooked skirt steak breakfast and I had pork tenderloin breakfast - with eggs, pancakes, hash browns. Reasonably priced and soooo delicious!! For ham lovers, they serve ham off the bone.
Great food, excellent service, big portions...the biscuits and gravy half order is two biscuits a whole order is four biscuits. Prices are very reasonable. If I lived in Illinois, I would be a regular there.
Service is usually always good. I normally have the same waitress she is very kind and attentive. The prices are very affordable especially considering the large serving sizes. The food is classic breakfast food, and I enjoy eating here. Try it out!
Good food, good prices, the girl that took our order was very professional and nice. The only thing I didnt like is that they were cleaning and vacuuming while we were still eating . It wasnt even close yet and they were cleaning moving tables, etc. VERY DISRESPECTFUL!!
Comforting diner like restaurant..fast, courteous staff.....plate portions just right.. exquisitely tasty food....and prices very affordable.... highest price on menu was around $10 or so...otherwise value is perfect.
Amazing food. I think the best gravy I have ever had (sorry Grandma). When I got the check I couldnt believe how little it was. I will recommend this place to anyone.
Cute little dinner with quick, delicious food at good prices. Very nice staff too!
It was really busy when we walked in, and now I know why; it was absolutely delicious. One of the best omlettes Ive ever had and my fiances eggs were a perfect over-medium. Highly recommend.
The service was friendly and fast. The food was very good. I had the Southern Benedict. The tomatoes made it. The eggs were poached perfectly. My lovely other half had the cinnamon french toast with scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. The French toast was delicious, and the bacon was crispy. Definitely come in for great meal.
Someone said they have the best biscuits and gravy. So we stopped in today. Ordered #9 eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy. In my opinion its good but not the best. But you should try it for yourself. Also got an order of crepes to go.
Old,dingy and ran down. I noticed that the heat lamps that is supposed to keep the food warm was not working and on top of that the insulation was hanging out of it over the food. The staff where not welcoming. I had a breakfast burrito, it was ok, the green peppers and onions where not browned off (uncooked). A good clean, little updating and server and cook training will go a long way.
Great food ,even better prices. Service is excellent. If your looking for that local diner for a good meal this is the place. Would recommend.
The food was absolutely delicious, the price for everything was surprisingly low considering the amount of food you get, and the servers and bussers check frequently if youd like more water or coffee. Im definitely going to make a habit of going here on the weekends and I highly suggest for everyone to go here at least once.
Classic diner. Mostly neighborhood crowd from the W. Chicago St area. Love seeing all the families, grandparents to kids, elderly gentlemen enjoying coffee at the bar or breakfast at a table across from a friend. Perfect diner prices - I last paid 5.75 for a 4-egg omelet with a truckload of meat and veggies in it. Not too long ago they took the space next to them in the strip so I dont think they will run out of seats, even during their incredibly busy Saturday mornings.
Went there on a Monday for lunch. Food was good. Service not so much. When we paid our bill with a card, it immediately posts to my bank app on my phone. They proceeded to charge me an additional $3 to my bill. Tried to contact them when it officially posted to my account, the gentleman was very rude and didnt want to talk to me at all. When I said there was a problem with the bill and my bank, he hung up on me. Will NEVER go there again. Ive told my friends about this that eat there and they wont go anymore either. And believe me, I have a lot of friends that dine there.
The place was so tiny before that you had to get there early or you would be waiting a while. They recently bought the space next door, so there is now plenty of seating. The food is great and the portions are huge, especially for the price. My family and I have eaten in and called in for an order to go. Its one of our go-to places for a Sunday breakfast. Ive had their lunch once, which was a just as great. It was a pleasant surprise as I did not think of them as more than a great breakfast spot.
Still often referred to as "The Oak", this place has the best food and fastest service of any diner in the area. More food than you could possibly eat for under 5 bucks, and the waitresses are quick and are friendly enough to put up with the antics of my colleagues every Sunday.
