1980s replica of 11th-century Golden Gate, the main fortified entrance to the medieval city.
Monument of defensive architecture of the reign of Yaroslav Mudryi. Historically, it served as the main entrance to Kiev Town from the south.
Fantastic and magic place ✨Better to visit during weekdays, cause in the weekend there is sooo many people
Its in middle of street I dont see anything fancy about it.
Place is beautiful.. what I like abt the place is the location where you have numerous options like other sight seeing places, eateries etc. Love feeding the pigeons too sometimes..
Its cool place & it gives glimpse of old city😍
Really rate the gate. It’s a small, but very interesting little museum about a part of history so far in the past few of us know much about it. Interesting restoration project and exhibit. Worth the 30CAH price (£1). Took us about 25mins to wonder round and take some snaps
Amazing gate in the middle of small park with green area surrounding located in the city center we enjoyed walking around in sunny days
This is my kind of place...a bit of history you can get a feel for. Some city views from the ramparts.
Rich history of the creation of Golden Gate. Abit modernized but historical significance holds true.
Baron Shteynhel Castle. Love this building. I dont know if you can go inside but the building is worth visiting.
Restored medieval gates of the city with a church on the top. It is one of the key landmarks of the city.
Very cool. Interesting history. It gives you a small glimpse into the history of this very old city. It is tucked away right in the middle of the city. Would have been an amazing sight back in the days when it was used.
Nicely decorated Historical monument, surrounding area developed for sitting with good fast-food and coffee counter. Museum inside monument is not free 120 RAH for adults.
- Entrance ticket 60 UAH- history background ( golden gates were built in 1017-1024 by byzantine- 15 minutes to see everything- nice cafe nearby
I loved learning more about Golden Gate. We used metro to reach to Golden Gate as it also has a background history. Station is called “Golden Gate” so it’s very easy to reach. You can also check the inside by getting a ticket.
Good OLED location it have some OLED rocks and gats
This is a historical site. There is an entrance fee of 60uah by which you can climb up and see the view from the top.
In the middle of Kiev this wonderful old building appears like such a stranger in a new world. The structure is complicated, wood and bricks matched together. A lot of people around it area, its a good place but in my opinion the main building should be requalified!
Entrance fee is 60 UAH. It is beatiful inside. It is 5 or 6 floors and you need to climb stairs. There is no elevator. You can see beatiful Kiev view on top of the gate. There is also a church on last floor. Definitely recommended to see this historical building and the view from the top.
Loved the night view .Quite a busy place but one must visit here at night.
Interesting site to visit. Theres some cool places to have coffee and restaurants to hang out and relax. Definitely worth a visit.
It such a beautiful monument it has so much history behind of the city and the country , there is also a little explanation in a video in the beginning , i really recommend this place also it easy to go to it ,it in Metro Green line Station Zoloti Vorota
Golden Gate original entrance to the Ancient City of Kiev. Replica rebuilt on the historic site of the gate. Originally with dirt ramparts reinforced with timber. Todays structure has a consecrated church (not in useof the Ascension of Mary on the top of the gate house. Monument on the side of the gate of the l victorious son of Vladimir after a brutal civil war to become the next ruler on his fathers death. In the back a statue of a cat, said to have saved many lives when alarming the people in a building close by of fire.
A must see! Pay the entrance fee and tour the inside. I am so glad we did! It really puts the size of the gate into perspective.
I was surprised by the size of the place. Right in the middle of apartment complex and metro. A small museum as well, if you are a history buff you will enjoy visiting here.
If you are visiting Kyiv for the first time you should definitely come here. Very old and historical place, loots of small rooms and corridors to explore and experience architecture from 1017. Its 32 meters high, very beautiful with beautiful views of the city around it.Entrance is paid but not a lot, definitely worth the money you pay.
This is famed in story and song, being the most beautiful gate of the early medieval city. The composer Modest Mussorgsky wrote a beautiful piece of music inspired by a picture of the gate, which was later arranged for a full orchestra by Ravel. The gate itself is a reconstruction, as the original gate is long destroyed. A statue of Yaroslav the Wise is beside the gate and the reconstructed gate gives some idea of what the outer walls and fortress of the city would have looked like in the Middle Ages before the Mongol Invasion. The Gate itself was not open to the public on weekdays during the winter, but even the exterior is very interesting to look at.
Very cool from outside and surrounding gardens. Was closed for winter so didnt get to see the inside. As you can see in my pictures, its far from winter conditions outside though.
Quite a historic place and it has a picturesque view.
Very interesting in the storage place its a must do because you can get to the top and its very cheap
Nice place, ok to see, inside you dont have much to see.. just the balconies. But when you realise that is from the 12th century (not sure, but veeery oldits wort visiting.. nice sight!
Interesting part of Kievs history and enterance to the old city. Sat outside and watched the world go by. A visit to the restaurant on the other side is worth a visit of only to see the sculpture made of plastic forks 😀
Interesting place. There are few information and some medieval weapons on the walls. But, probably, it wont dazzle you. Needs around 30 mins to be able to see all.
Its a very special historic place, where the border of Ancient Kyiv was. The atmosphere is very bright there. You can feel how ancient and unique Kyiv is. There are ancient St Sophias Cathedral just in 5 minutes walk, foundation of which is dated 11th Century. Yaroslaviv Val street is full of historical buildings and delicious places to eat or get some coffee.
Neat little place with ALOT of history. There isnt much here unfortunately to read on. Not much in English or really much at all. Only a few small historical objects. I think just seeing this from the outside is all thats really needed.
One of main gate to Kiev. It’s name coming from golden doom or it was gold collected to enter this gate then. A monument is dedicated to the one of the prince of Kiev. Euroslove, called wise. He made his children to get married with rulers of other kingdom that way to have a hold.
The historical and historic entrance to the ancient city. A slightly fanciful restoration but a pleasant landmark of Kyiv. Right next to the metro station of the same name. Lots of bars, cafes and restaurants in the area. A nice place for a stroll in summer. Busy at peak times, though.
Very old gate from the original part of the city. Having been restored it still looks great. There is a nice fountain next to it and other statues as well. Plently of restaurants and cafes as well. It is located next to the metro and is a good place to start for a tourist walk of the old town and city. It is worth seeing.
Definitely worth visiting to experience the ancient history of this city from the 10th century or actually even as early as the 9th century.
Very ancient place in Kiev. It has been founded a lot of centuries ago during Kiev Rus times. Now is restored and you can visit it. Here actually Kiev started. So enjoy)
Golden Gate in Kiev city is worth a visit. Kiev itself is a glorious city. I have visited it twice and soon I will visit it again. What a wonderful time!!!
A museum seems a good sightseeing place, and park beside it is cosy. There are a lot of coffee shops beside too.
Impressive old building, over a thousand years old. If you are in the area and you pay a visit to it you will be rewarded with fabulous views of the city.
Historical place. Nice to know the great memories. You must see a lucky cat behind the golden gate building.
There used to be a big walled city something like year 1037 and this is whats left of it. Entrance was 50 UAH where u can see whats left of it, and climb up and have a view. It is nice but didnt change my life.
A well restored ancient building. You can see there ruins of the walls from XI century as well as other artifacts. Also there are a lot of Ukrainian/English language explanation plates, maps and models of the ancient Kyiv. This definitely one of oldest building/ruin in Kyiv. So its history of the heart of Kievan Rus as is.Besides, on balconies nice view and good place for photoshooting :)Strongly recommend to visit
Cheap entry 50grn for tourist. Not much inside. Some signs in both Ukraine and English. Good views at you climb uo
Cool ancient building in the center of Kyiv, you can actually visit it and go inside and took the top flor with some city view. Worth a visit if you are first time in Kyiv.Nice cafe located nearby but working only during summertime. In front of the building from one of the sides you can find a monument to Yaroslav the Wise.
A little bit interesting if you have time for it. Not all original, of course, after a thousand years. Not far from the center, so why not. Entrance per person costs less than 2 dollars.
This is a Soviet Era reconstruction of the 11th century Golden Gate built by Yaroslavl the Wise. It is located by a Metro stop of the same name. It takes just a short while to tour the exterior and visit the small museum inside. There is some controversy whether this reconstruction is accurate. Regardless, it is worth visiting.
