Historical gate of Jerusalem, Palestine 🇵🇸
Because all three religions place such high importance on the Golden Gate in reference to messianic occurrences past and future, this site remains one of the most history-rich and controversial sites in Jerusalem. For Muslims, the gate is referred to as Bab al-Dhahabi or Bab al-Zahabi (meaning Golden Gate or sometimes referred to as the Gate of Eternal Life). Muslims also place religious significance at this location, as some believe that this is the site of Allah’s final judgment and the site of future resurrection.Apocryphal texts in Christianity also detail that Jesus passed through this same gate on Palm Sunday, giving the gate messianic importance.Jewish literature details that when the Messiah (the promised deliverer of the Jewish nation as prophesied in the Jewish biblearrives, he will enter Jerusalem through the Eastern Gate.
The Hebrew name of the Golden Gate is Shaar HaRachamim (שער הרחמים), Gate of Mercy (Arabic: باب الرحمة). In the Mishnah (Middot 1:3), the eastern gate of the second Temple compound is called the Shushan Gate. If the Golden Gate does preserve the location of the Shushan Gate, which is only a presumption with no archaeological proof, this would make it the oldest of the current gates in Jerusalems Old City Walls. Jewish and Christian tradition attributes its construction to King Solomon,[1] but there is no archaeological or historical evidence of its being that old.
Dream come true visiting Jerusalem
The Holiest nd Most Protected City Jerusalem holds a lot of Historical nd Religious Significance..
Golden gate in the wall of the ancient city. They were walled up in the possession of the city by the Muslim ruler Suleiman the Magnificent. With these gates, Jesus rode into the city of Jerusalem on a donkey. In the future, the Messiah of Israel will enter the city with this gate.
4.6 stars is not an accurate rating. There is nothing impressive at this gate
Its one of the four gates that is closed today of the old citys wall and its faces the east side of it.Its guardianship is a conflict between muslims and Jews.Muslims called it BAB ALRAHMA " the gate of mercy " and jews called it SHUSHAN gate " the eastern gate "Its closed from the outside of the wall and from the inside there is a mousqe. Its hight is 11.5 metres and its been destroyed and rebuilt many times during the ages.
The Golden Gate (Hebrew: שער הרחמים, Arabic: باب الرحمة), as it is called in Christian literature, is the only eastern gate of the Temple Mount and one of only two that used to offer access into the city from that side. It has been walled up since medieval times. The date of its construction is disputed and no archaeological work is allowed at the gatehouse, but opinions are shared between a late Byzantine and an early Umayyad date. The Hebrew name of the Golden Gate is Shaar HaRachamim (שער הרחמים), Gate of Mercy. In Jewish sources[dubious – discuss] the eastern gate of the Temple compound is called the Shushan Gate. If the Golden Gate does preserve the location of the Shushan Gate, which is only a presumption with no archaeological proof, this would make it the oldest of the current gates in Jerusalems Old City Walls. According to Jewish tradition, the Shekhinah (שכינה(Divine Presenceused to appear through the eastern Gate, and will appear again when the Anointed One (Messiahcomes (Ezekiel 44:1–3and a new gate replaces the present one; that might be why Jews used to pray in medieval times for mercy at the former gate at this location,[1] another possible reason being that in the Crusader period, when this habit was first documented, they were not allowed into the city where the Western Wall is located. Hence the name "Gate of Mercy".
Oh! What can I say!!! Lovely, amazing and awesome
David was very helpful amazing person that was able to take of me
The gate of mercy in arabic, they took the name from the quran. The name golden gate was taken from the greek name hurya gate means the beautiful gate in greek but the name hurya sounds similar to the word golden in roman so the roman called it the golden gate. Its closed now, so we call it a gate house, local muslim used it as offices until few months ago it became a mosque and opened frequently after an agreement between the israeli authority an the palestinian authority and the local muslims
An ancient closed doors . which was built before more than 1000 years . its a religious place belong to Masjed Al-Aqsa on the other side of the wall . so its part of Masjed Al Aqsas Wall and all around that place theres a grave yard for Moslems .
Wow.. i hope all muslims pray there
The Golden gate is the gate used by Jesus Christ for his entrance in Jerusalem. You have a view towards the Mount of olives and the Church of all nations and the Getsimanie garden. The gate is definitely closed in the 12th century because according to the believes the Christ should be coming back from there in the end of time.
The Golden Gate (also known as Bab ad-Dhahabiis an ancient historical door carved inside Masjid al-Aqsa’s eastern wall. It has been walled up since medieval times. The exact date of construction of the Golden Gate is disputed, with opinions differing between late Byzantine to early Umayyad times. It consists of two gates, one the south (Ar-Rahma – “The Mercy”and one to the north (At-Tawbah – “The Repentance”). The Mercy Gate was named after the Mercy (ar-Rahmahgraveyard, located in front of it, which contains the graves of two companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Ubadah bin Samitand Shaddad bin Aus (may Allah be pleased with them)
really cool place! It dates back to a long time ago. It is only around 5 mins. away from lions gate and is worth seeing.
Alot of stories about this have and you can see it from the mount of olives
We traveled to our Holy Land, The State of Israel, on a journey of faith, visiting rather important sites.Jerusalem is simply incredible. The Golden Gate Door: from the church of Nations / Agony; the door Jesus entered on Palm SundayImagine how we felt standing there, finally making our dreams come true, to walk the steps of the life of our Lord, Jesus Christ!
This gate was walled up in medieval times. According to the believes it will open again when God enters it on a judgement day.
Non Muslim looking people cant enter areaHave to stay on other side of wall. A shame!
Went there with an artist friend who is doing a project about the place. Great view towards Mt. of Olives if you come there in the afternoon.
Jerusalem old city has eight open gates. On the east side of the city wall, just overlooking the Gethsemane garden, standing the most magnificent of them all – the Golden Gate. The gate is called in Hebrew the “Gate of Mercy”. The Christians believe this is the gate used by Jesus when he entered the city. Visiting the gate and reading the rich history surrounding it, making this place a gate to ancient times. This is a true architectural and historical wonder.
I happened to stumble upon the Golden Gate on my second trip to Israel. We were walking around the Old City and we saw an interesting cemetery. We pulled that our phones and looked up what. We were glad we stumbled upon it as the Golden Gate is where the Messiah would pass through, according to Jewish history.
Sadly, visitors are prevented from inspecting up close the interior or the exterior of the Beautiful Gate. One can only hope that in the near future access be fully restored for all visitors to the Temple site.
A place of entrance for the only one promised Messiah ,son of God Jesus Christ . This is the most sacred GOLDEN GATE, also known as the BEAUTIFUL GATE. Jesus Christ born pure and sacrificed his life for the world to be cleansed from sin .Not any tombs can be considered unclean to Jesus Christ . Especially when souls that have departed from this world that he knows about for he is the resurrection of life. written by Sherly V Thomas Indian-American DeZi Gal.
Legend states that the messiah will eventually enter Jerusalem through this gate. Today it is sealed and there isnt much to see. The one nice part about this place is that its probably the quietest part of the Old City.
Interesting story of gate. Mesia will be come threw the gate but Muslim made tombs the place.
The special mosque for muslims all around the world, it was qiblat for muslim. The texture is beautiful too, but conflict make the situation worst. #standwithpalestine
Interesting that Yeshua will return through this gate and it is between the Garden of Gethsemane and the Sanhedrin.
I wish I been there but I want to go there because this is like the heavenly place for living in it.
Was there last March,pretty overwhelming.
It is a part of Alaqsa mosque it is closed and it give nice a view of jerusalem
Currently shut. One day it will be unblocked.
Maranatha, O come, Lord Jesus our Savior!
My Lord and Savior Jesus will enter through this gate... will have to open soon!
Mistranslated from greek oraia (Acts 3:2: beautifulto latin aurea (golden). Gate of Mercy in Nehemia 3:31. Traditional place of Joseph and Mary first encounter. Ezekiel 47: the river of life goes out from the Temple to the Dead sea. The Messiah would enter through it Since he is also son of Aaron, priest, Muslims would have put their cemetery in front of it to forbide him the way (ritual impurity on bones).
lessOn Learned gate catHedral
Golden Gate has lovely view from Mt. Olives.
Real beautiful construction. You also get great views across the Kidron Valley at the 1st century monumental tombs on the Mount of Olives.
Walk from outside the Lion Gate, south through the Muslim graveyard with the Mount of Olives in the distance. Here you will find the Golden Gate. It is through here that Christ will one day return. What is now sealed, will be opened. An amazing place to visit.
Beautiful view of Jerusalem.
