Displays of ancient gold artifacts, weapons & armor from around the world & pre-Hispanic textiles.
One of the better museums in Lima, lots of weapons, gold, and older relics. Especially chanchay and chincha stuff. Privately owned, 33 soles
One of the best museums Ive been to. The weapons museum is incredible, better than most in Europe, with an astoundingly large selection of weapons from all over the world, and all periods of history. A nice selection of Japanese armor and weapons, and a huge amount of medieval, colonial, and early modern weaponry and uniforms, from ancient bronze daggers, to swords gifted to liberators and emperors from Simon Bolivar, to Peruvian presidents, to prince Charles.Followed by a gold and archeology museum whos highlight was a few mummies in excellent condition.
Interesting museum. Lots of artifacts from many wars. The shops outside also offer many cool items at a discounted price.
Unfortunately, it was closed. We checked the schedule and it was supposed to open. I strongly recommend you to make a phone call and make sure the museum is open.
Just want to update that the museum.is still closed although there was a recent posting.
Amazing museum collection. More than 20000 items. Unbelievable it was done by private person - Muguel Mujica Gallo. Now-days it still belongs to his family and operated by his grand-daughters. I have no words to describe, you just have to see it.
Unfortunately museum is temporary closed and it’s not mentioned anywhere but the door of the museum. We spent a lot of time in Lima traffic and and were very unhappy ☹️
This museum is closed and they do not announce it in the webpage. They have a post on the door to call a number to make a reservation, but nobody answers. Accurate information needs to be provided.Do not go.
This place is fantastic. History of war tools, articles made of gold and other precious stones amazing. Sadly photos not allowed. Enjoy.
This museum is not locate in the tourist area of Lima about 15 minutes from Miraflores. It have a good representation of the pre-hispanic pieces of jewerly and different objects belonging to Moche, Lambayeque, Vicus, Chimú,Chancay, Nazca and Inca Cultures. The showrooms have a wide range of main objects among which can find a variety of vessels that Incas used in rituals and religious activities, a variety of mummies from the central coast of Peru; likewise, metal pieces from the Lambayeque Culture and prehispanic textiles and pottery. The most impressive is the MUSEO ARMAS DEL MUNDO: “Arms of the World Museum” exhibits over 20,000 weapons from all over the world and from different periods, being this museum one of the most complete collection of its type in South America. Firearms, such as daggers, swords, guns, rifles, rapiers, etc., form our collection; additionally, side arms, missile weapons, and large contusion weapons are exhibited in different roomsssive
Museum with guide Abel P from Tours by Locals was eye opening and absolutely necessary to understand the amazing array of 100% pre-Inca gold treasures. Also good gift shops.
The Peruvian exposition was great, but the international objects had neither descriptions, nor were they arranged or sorted.
Very badly curated exhibition. You go though rooms and rooms of pottery and jewelry without knowing anything of the culture who produce them. Then a huge floor full.of weapons ( museum of gold?). On top.of it very pricey.
There are a lot of historical peices, a lot of weaponry and uniforms, some ancient historical items, but little or no understandable organisation, and very little in terms of description. So if you like looking at stuff and dont care if you know what youre looking at, its great, but its a very amateurish attempt at a museum. Its a definite pass in my opinion.
Wonderful museum with tons of guns, ammo, war relics and more importantly Inca Gold. Worth your visit here.
Not only the collection is very rich and interesting but its also presented nicely. Fantastic place!
The most awesome museum so far, a lot of incredible pieces, but sadly there was not much information on them, and even though the paid guide was helpful, it didnt filled my curiosity especially on the weapons section, were there was a almost a complete lack of information, but the pieces were just invaluable. Visit, but expect to fill yourself the lack of info.
Very interesting. May be too rich and the material is not well connected with different civilizations. I do not understand why it has been under evaluated due to some unfavourable expertises. Even if some piece can questioning , the overall collection is precious. Visit together Larco Museum.
This is a place that tourists shouldnt miss is a real pleasure to visit this museum.
Very interesting museum to visit. Also English translations and explanations available.
Very nice display of the pre-inca gold ornaments, the modem arms looks a little rushed and bunched up, needs up keep and to be put in separate display cases. *** WiFi sucks!!! ***
Could be a good museum. Not very well curated considering the amazing content. No real descriptions.. Probably one of the saddest excuse for a museum Ive seen in larger cities in the Americas. Also very out of the way, and I dont think worth it.
The majority of gold artifacts are fake, the weapons collection is a completely unsorted and somewhat random pile of guns, uniforms and other military items. So why did I still rate it 5 stars? Cause it’s nonetheless an impressive collection. The few items that aren’t fake are some of the best known Inca and pre-Colombian artifacts there are.The weapons collection, while random, is massive. The claimed previous ownership of some of the guns is rather questionable (like Napoleon’s gun, Hitler’s gun, Goering’s ceremonial dagger).Visiting this museum won’t take you longer than one hour, if you have some extra time to spend while in Lima go visit it.
Amazing place, which needs much scientific help in explaining the importance of the exhibits. WWII items are beyond imagination only standing up to Johannesburg military museum. 5* Must see!
Wonderful learning experience. You can spend 4 - 6 hours here. So much to see. Extra $20 for guide really worth it!!
Loved the basement gild artifacts and mummified skulls
On one hand, they do have amazing pieces of gold. However, most of them are not displayed well. Bad organization and one of the smallest private museums in Lima. Plus, I’m Peruvian and I had the opportunity to visit lots of Peruvian museums. On the other hand, if you guys wanna visit one of the best Peruvian museums in Lima, go to Larco Museum in Pueblo Libre.
Impressive museum with an excellent collection of gold artifacts as well as other pieces from ancient Peruvian cultures. The museum shares space with a weapons museum. That, too, is a stunning collection. Of not for the $10 entry fees we would have returned a different day to better enjoy them both.
So much to see and learn! Great for people who like to see battle gear and weaponry (these are on the ground floorand/or archeological finds (these are in the basement). Up to maybe 2/3 of the displays are translated to English, which I appreciated. Next time I go I think I will look into getting a guide.
The visit to the museum was good because we took a tour guide. She was very knowledgeable and made sense of all the displays, otherwise you get lost on it.
While the history of the 8,000 gold items is very interesting,I couldn see them because there were many steps,no elevator, no facilities for handicap persons. However, the first floor has a great private collection of thousands of weapons which were very interesting. They were remodeling the shops.Reasonable entry fee.
It had a good collection of ancient artifacts, not only Peruvian, but also from other parts of the world. It was greatly surprised by the samurai collection. Although, it is a bit pricey for Peruvian standards, it is worth it.
This place its amazing.... Peru Inca gold is everywhere here, you will be inside a huge vault rooms... tickets are like 10.00 dollars for person.
I visit the shops outside of this museum every time I visit Lima! If youre after baby alpaca wool scarves, hats, blankets, etc you can get them here at HALF the price of other mainstream shops in Miraflores!
Many of the existing reviews get it right. It is an interesting place to visit. There are many many many guns. I dont really like guns, but its interesting seeing artifacts of human history. Or obsession with guns goes back as far as humans do, for the most part.It is difficult to figure out what some of the things are since they dont have labels, and it sounds like the guides can be somewhat helpful but they are very expensive. The one that was available to me when I was buying my ticket, which was about $10 us or so, was $50 US Mas o Menos. maybe thats worth it, maybe I should support the local economy more by hiring these folks, but listening to what they had to say, by overhearing it it didnt seem like there was much additional elimination as to the artifacts, which are Sensational, especially when you go downstairs into the Gold Room. Its in the vault.Pictures didnt seem to be a problem, and so I took 64 of them. I hope you like them.
Great museum. They let you take picutres and the collection is amazing. Easily spend half a day just looking at all the great stuff they exhibit. They got mummies, gold, japanese arms and samurai clothes, nazi stuff, ottoman empire sword. Great stuff
Ok it’s not in the same league or Larco only because the display, description of the treasures and overall environment. But it is every bit as interesting and rich in its collection. We were very lucky that we had an extremely knowledgeable guide with us and they Museum has recently changed its policy to allow photo taking. No doubt everyone is there for the gold collection, the weapon collection is almost as interesting from swords I’d Francisco Pizarro (Spanish explorer and conqueror who conquered Peruto pistol used by Fidel Castro and Chaieman Mao’s walking sticks. Once you are done on the ground floor, be ready to be blown away by entering the vault like gold display in the basement. With the huge collection and hardly any proper description, hire a guide!!
I loved this museum, despite its apparent support for some dubious political figures like Pinochet and the like. The ground floor includes weapons of important political figures, including several presidents. An impressive collection of weapons from all over the world. If course people come to this museum to see the gold collection of the various ancient civilisations that lived in what is today Peru. This collection is truly impressive. Overall the museum artifacts deserve better explanations, maybe an audio guide. They offer a guide service but then youre subject to the pace of your guide... museum ticket costs about usd 10.
Very interesting museum. I wish they had more signs with explanations of what we are looking at though. The same goes for the weaponry museum housed within the same building; extensive and fascinating but lacking in signage. I went on a Saturday afternoon and parking was not a problem at all.
Nice museum to visit with family! This attraction holds many artifacts and collections to hold the interest of anyone who visits! Also within a few blocks of restaurants.
Great place, just the guides are a little overpriced than a few years ago for a not so enthusiastic service. I would suggest to go on your own and dedicate at least 2 hours to go at your own pace. A lot to see, many historic gems.
This is a private collection that the logistic needs to be renovated and/or cleaned. It has a strong smell in some areas, like too much humidity. They dont allow to take pictures even with no flash. Big collection of weapons and uniforms. It was quarter to 6 (they close at 6pmand the employees were kind in a hurry up, following us and making noise with the doors and at the end of the tour, on the uniform area, turning on and off the lights, personally thats rude considering its a bit pricey for what its shown there. I recommend Larco Museum, by far much better and its allowed to take pictures.
A museum of arms donated to the country of Peru by the estate of Miguel Mujica Gallo, contains about 20.000 miliitary and private weapons. Additionally, we saw uniforms, horse riding gear, swords and scabbards. It is considered by many to be largest, best preserved and authenticated collection in the worldIt is a great afternoon visit, informative fun for all ages.
Main exhibits in basement are impressive and well maintained. Lovely gift shop is pricey. 1st floor and outside shops are dated.
Definitely NOT A MUSEUM, its more of a collectors basement. The foundation directors who take care of the museum after 2001, dont care about the museum or history, only the profit the museum brings. Very UNKEPT, seems like they didnt maintain or even bother dusting off any of the displays since the last time the collection left the place, back in 2014 (last time the exhibition left this location for an international exhibitionNothing compare to the Larco Museum, safe time and only come here if you have time to kill.
Probably the best little museum in South America. Amazing collection of ornate swords and weapons from around the world, including intricately carved ivory sword covers and weapons from the naval battles that occurred as the Americas were under European control. Lots of gold and peruvian history, too!
Vast collection of modern/contemporary weapoms and pre columbian gold artefacts. Unfortunately taking photos inside the building. The museum could do with some renovating and audio guides, but is otherwise goof
More people need to see and visit this museum. A vast collection of pre-hispanic gold artifacts. And the upper level of the weapons and guns collection is amazing old reliques from emperors and presidents. Unfortunately photos are forbidden inside.
Museum was very interesting. Very large collection of antique armory. However, after we paid the entrance fee and stepped inside the gate we were confronted by another person telling us we needed to pay another $30/ea(USfor an English speaking guide. After the tour, and as we were leaving the guide asked us to pay him, telling us we didnt pay him on the way in, (which we had). We argued with him for fifteen minutes and told him we were not going to pay twice. We later found out that he was not an employee of the museum, but an independant guide. Beware.
An excellent collection of ancient Inca and Preinca gold and silver artifacts. Certainly a not to be missed destination while in Lima. But the exposition is a bit chaotic. Too much to see in too small a space (that certainly applies to the twin museum of weaponry to which the entrance ticket also gives access), and an almost complete lack of explanation. I hope this museum will soon find the resources to follow the Larco museum in reorganizing its exhibition and displays. Its probably best to pay the S/.10 for the audio guide.
