Glorieta Castle - Museum in Tarabuco, Bolivia
This is what I like to call a tourist trap. Not even walking there was appealing. The castle itself looks fine from the outside but inside is just abandoned and ugly, not even well preserved. Definitely not worth paying 20 as a foreigner, wouldnt pay a dime to be fair. Not recommended.
Me encanto ver tanta arquitectura..antigua y tan bien.cuidado...
Not only the castle but an amazing back yard. 20 boliviano includes the virtual tour, tour of the castle and the large back yard. Bus 4 from centro will bring you there (terminalfor 1.5 boliviano. Take same bus and go to the cementerio.
There is not much security, they make you pay a camera fee to take photos, which costs like one more ticket and nobody gets to control it. The place is not very well cared for and there is no access to many areas, in addition to being a "museum" the truth is that it does not have much to see, almost everything is empty. But the place is nice to walk around, its big and quiet.
Must go spot in Sucre. If you find the ambiance to be a bit heavy youll probably understand why during the tour.
Very nice but not very good taken care of
What could have been a special landmark, it is disappointing to see the deterioration of a piece of history. Nothing about this place gave a me the sense that it was a castle, it felt more like a mansion. Nonetheless it is worth visiting before it is completely umvisitable. You still get to walk around most of the property and appreciate the architecture. It is outside of the city so plan accordingly in trying to get there.
A wonderful place to visit in Sucre, Bolivia
Highly recommended
Its a peaceful and historic place. It shows a lot about Bolivan history adding a bit more to the usual story we have been told
A lovely little escape from the city and nice bit of history. We got the number 4 bus from one street over from the big market, which cost 1.5bs and took 20 minutes. Then we paid 20bs entry. Its such a pretty pink castle and theres posters in english and Spanish telling you about how it all came about.Theres also quite a pretty garden for relaxing under the palm trees.
Beautiful historic castle. I wish it had more furniture or paintings but most things got stolen from the castle when the owners died. We were one of the few people there. A must see!
Amazing, a place full of vegetation
nice little castle
Very beautiful place! To arrive there take a taxi and will cost you 5 bolivianos. The entrance fee is fine and with the ticket you have also the tour (if you wantotherwise you just go around by yourself.Nice escape from Sucre city centre.
The pictures you can see online dont do it justice - this place is badly looked after and despite paying for admission I couldnt see where the money goes. Definitely not towards the conservation of this historic place. Its a shame that the only principality in Bolivia has writing on its walls, broken mirrors, missing floor tiles and almost completely empty rooms without much information about their use.Its one thing to have historic places fall into disrepair because there is nobody to look after them, but its a completely different thing to have them fall into disrepair even though there are tons of paying tourists visiting every day...
Nice castle but it is not in great condition. The paint is peeling off, the fountains do not work, and the garden is not well maintained. Furthermore, most of the rooms in the castle are empty so you are left to imagine how it was when the rooms were used.
Beautiful, tranquil, but a bit bare. Its in, what looks like, a military base so taking the local bus there was a little confusing at first. Overall, wonderful architecture and colors.
Super
History and more
Expectacular
Beautiful place with an amazing view!
Cozy place to stay and visit. You need to take the bus 4 from the downtown (1.5bs). The entrance fee is 10bs.
This location is about 20 minutes out of Sucre, and takes about 1 to 2 hours to look around thoroughly. The castle is next to a school and some military baracks, and rests between the road and the river. We took a taxi there and back. This should be about 15 to 20 bob each way, and your driver may wait for you, but youd have to negotiate that. There is a local bus that goes to and from - may be cheaper and is likely caught from the main plaza in Sucre. You pay your entry in the long building on the right after entering through the castle gate. The castle is a self guided location, and is mostly empty. Not ghostly empty at all, but our child took some convincing to go into the cool and dark cellar room.. until we found the light switch!Explore the castle inside and out. There are stairs in/out, and for those curious enough there are about 110 spiral stairs into the round tower where there is an interesting view of the grounds. If the top tower door is shut make sure you give it a firm tug to open it if it is not locked. (A visitor told us it was locked, but it was not, only kind of stuck a bit tight. There are two main levels to explore, that include the bed and bathrooms, entertaining areas and more. The grounds/garden is expansive, with an interesting finish on the fountains and other garden structures. You will also see the remnants of a greenhouse and the fountains (not-functioning on our visit). The history of the castle is interesting, and you should do the Mueso del Tesoro in Sucre first, as there is a very connected history with people and architecture. The internal floors, ornamentation, and facades give you a glimpse of how fancy this castle must have been in its hey-day.As a small traveling family this was a nice half day adventure that was a quiet location and where we could wander around at our own pace. Its a great place to get some interesting photos as well
It was a cool story of the Prince and Princess and the grounds were beautiful.
The house and grounds are very run down. But the history is interesting and so was the tour guide.
Pretty impressive castle but bare inside which was a bit strange
Close from the city, easy to go by local bus. Nice castle, but visit very fast. I recommande it.
Fascinating building. To see the riches of the past and hear the stories from the guides was quite intriguing. Easy to get to, minibus no 4 from central market, both end are terminal stops.
Nice part of the Bolivian history, but there could be guided tours in english as well.
Beautiful historical site
Closed on Mondays but very interesting
Ok
Beautiful place with a lot of design from different styles and places. Only thing missing is more information for each room
The castle is really beautiful but I only managed to see it from outside because on Mondays is closed. Its really easy to go there, just take the micro bus number 4, the pink one from th Central market
The conditions of the inside were sad.
Completely empty with no information or decor.
A must-see site in Sucre.
