Glengallan Homestead & Heritage Centre - Tourist attraction in Warwick, Australia
Lovely old house. Shame it hasnt been more renovated
It was a nice step back in time to walk through the old homestead, it seemed like only half a house though. The markets were on when we visited which made it even more an adventure scavenging around for a bargain.
An absolutely stunning history lesson and tribute to the early pioneers in the Darling Downs region. Glengallan Homestead has an incredible story to tell, from good times to bad, prosper to ruin. She now stands as a testament to those who originally made the region home. From the period furnishings and remaining artefacts to the well kept grounds and the tennis court, Glengallan offers an opportunity to place yourself in periods of times long past, and share in the history of the region and the families that called the area home. The staff are warm and welcoming and you cannot go past a Devonshire Tea, complete with freshly baked onsite scones. This was our third visit, with previous stops being during Sunday markets and other historical events. Definitely worth the stop.
Glengallan homestead is a wonderful place to visit and I highly recommend it. Look forward to visiting again.
We had a fresh sandwich and nice cup of tea after touring the homestead which has been restored from derelict . Worth a visit.
Club sandwich and Rosemary Lamb Filos $14.50 😋👌
We visited Glengallen with friends visiting from Melbourne. We had a great time learning the history of Glengallen and had a great lunch when we were done.Worth the visit.
Coffee is good and scones come with a view! Delightful morning stop while travelling.
I did enjoy looking over the Homestead but you have to realise that you will be viewing a derelict building - sadly, it would cost a fortune to trenovate.
I didnt do tour my partner did enjoyed although $15 a tad $$. I ate at cafe food and service were good friendly helpful.
Beautiful piece of history being restored and cared for by the local community..WELL worth the visit. Our visit (Cadillac LaSalle Club of Queenslandwas truely memorable… the Team are friendly, happy and passionate about their work and the heritage they care for… wonderful stopover… p.s the food is good 👍
Lovely old sandstone squatter era homestead. Small cafe and gift store. We went for the Jumper and Jazz festival in July.
A marvelous setting, been restored partially without losing the historical feel of the place.Staff onsite were terrific.
Lovely place, lovely people. We only went for a coffee but were made to feel welcome even with the puppies. Will look forward to go back and explore the homestead itself.
Great coffee shop and friendly staff! Love the heritage vibes. Markets were awesome! A great variety of stalls well worth the look at the markets and Homestead
The homestead with its history was amazing. The tour was very brief and then we were left to wander by ourselves.
Lovely 😍
When travelling between Toowoomba and Warwick, make sure you stop by for a visit. A great heritage of the past. They have a café with great light meals and coffee. The staff are friendly.
Worth a stop to explore this large homestead with an interesting backstory. Lovely, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. Did not eat at the cafe as was a stop in on the way home.
Bit disappointed in the state of the old homestead. Expensive for a look at what needs to be done. Scones and coffee were nice.
I begged my OH to take me here as I’d seen so many leaflets about the place. Maybe I had just been spoilt by Pringles cottage but I found it deflating. Don’t get me wrong it’s wonderful what they are achieving with the house. I just didn’t find the staff really cared and was a bit disheartened when another family asked a lady if it was all run by volunteers and she said no we all get paid. You would think more locals would have stepped forward to volunteer. I would love to know how much has been spent on the upgrades to date, it must be a nightmare to fund. What a shame you can’t get the antiques and furniture back along with the gate posts. We decided to dine with you that day and had two filos with salad. They were delicious. What would make it 100% better would be volunteers with an interest and some excitement in their work. We probably wouldn’t visit again now we have seen it. But. Huge congratulations to everyone on board
Loved the feeling of grandeur here and the work that has been done to reinstate it. Cafe is beautifully designed to capture the views.
It is a beautiful old building, with absolutely gorgeous views across the plains towards Cunninghams Gap. Unfortunately the building is in a state of much needed repair. The walls and ceiling are full of huge cracks and holes. It actually felt unsafe walking around inside ☹ Im glad we decided to visit but probably wont go again.
Very informative and interesting. The homestead will be gorgeous when its finished. Hope the Trust is able to source all the things it needs to restore it.
Had a great “coffee and scones” catchup with friends last Sunday. Can’t fault the service, the food, or the atmosphere. Great country cafe with a no-fuss menu in a beautiful setting.
An interesting and informative look into the past. It had me asking a lot of questions. This is an honest and genuine place to visit. Dont expect to see a place done up like a museum; inside it is a true reflection of the neglect that it has suffered. Congratulations to the volunteers for a wonderful job in restoring this once majestic home. The food at the Cafe is absolutely delicious and is home cooking at its best. Staff are friendly and only too happy to please.
On going restorations , interesting to see how buildings were constructed in the 1800s. Well documented history. Can recomend the cafe for morning tea and lunch with home made cooking
An uniquely displayed piece of the Southern Downs regions history. The Station is well restored including interesting facts about the buildings past. There is an amazingly large amount of preserved history written about this Homestead. The Cafe is reasonably priced, and is very serene with a nice view. The food is freshly cooked and the staff are friendly. Definetley worth a visit if you are in Warwick.
Grand old home and rose garden. Some incredible work has been done to restore it from ruins. It has been left in places to show just how bad it was. We had a lovely Devonshire Tea and warm drink on a very cold day. Views to surrounding district. The info board were awesome to give history of house and families who loved there. A great few hours and good insight to early settlers of region.
The wife and I just had a casual wander around this nice old place.. could do with a lot more restoration but what is there is very interesting .. even the mummified cat... the ladies at the souvenir and lunch shop were very friendly and the food was good and prompt
A must see on your travels. The building has a long way to be fully restored, what has been done is fantastic. Full of history and grandeur.
A must see if you like old buildings. Needs alot more donations to fully restore. Great Australian heritage.
Wow what a delightful place to visit. First we stopped and had lunch at their cafe open and spacious and the food was great and staff loverly. Then took a slow walk up to the beautiful house and wow you wont be disappointed and the huge verandas are to die for and the garden area its got beautiful views of the mountains. Its a got to see 😀
Such ashame that such a historic homestead has fallen in such disrepair.....still enjoyed seeing it and reading about its history.
Visited Glengallen Homestead and gardens on our way to Warwick and ended up spending a few hours there. Only $10 each to visit the homestead and gardens is well worth it. We spent an hour or so looking around outside and inside the homestead. Then we visited the cafe on-site which is also a great souvenir shop . What a great choice with much of the food homemade and cooked fresh each day. We had bacon, zucchini and haloumi fritters with tomato relish to start with and they were so flavoursome and delicious. Then finished with scones, raspberry jam -home made- and cream. They were still warm when we got them and so yummy. Definitely recommend a visit here and an added bonus, you can visit the sunflowers growing less than 5 minutes away.
An absolute must do, amazing little Cafe and fabulous service, The grounds were immaculate and it is obvious the care taken to continue restoration of this beautiful building.
Lovely partially restored Homestead from yester year. It gives a glimpse of how the wealthy farmers once lived. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the cafe has nice food and good coffee. We enjoyed walking the grounds and the Homestead.
Beautiful serene place to take a trip back in time to.
This is an absolute must to visit. The homestead of a little slice of our English heritage and its like stepping back in time.
Out in the Darling Downs to the north of Warwick is a grand homestead, constructed between 1864 and 1904 and rescued from dereliction in the 2000s.To see this sandstone building today, with its beautiful verandah, it’s hard to believe that it was abandoned for more than 30 years. You can pay a visit Wednesday to Sunday to savour the interiors, find out about the ongoing restoration and learn the Glengallan story, beginning in the 1830s with squatters. You can buy tasty local produce and handmade gifts from the farm shop, while the Heritage Centre Cafe is a must for tea and scones
Its absolutely beautiful. The government should give them more money to finish the work of this grand old house.
I enjoyed looking at the house.Nice snacks tea/coffee.Nice hosts.Easy parking.Clean prep & eating area.I recommend paying for access to house as the money used for looking at house is used to restore the building & surrounds as an important part of settlement.Great information on timeline of building & families.Respect needs to be shown here as the correct owners even to this day of the land is actually the local aboriginal people. The Royal family needs to apologize for theft of land & murder of aboriginal people & hand the correct ownership of the land to the aboriginal people who still own this land & are still at war with the Royal family of Brittain.Hand the land back you criminal Royal Family.
Such a surprise to see the series of photos from when it was inhabited to when it was in a desolate state and now since it has been partly refurbished.
We saw it as a ruin in the early 80s and finally made it back. Its definitely worth a stop. The Cafe serves good coffee as an added bonus
A great place to visit. 45 min from Toowoomba an excellent day outing if you are looking for Australian history.Good cafe with delicious food on offer. I recommend the bacon fritters.
Its a great place to learn about the history and have a relaxing time over a coffee break.
If you are travelling between Toowoomba and Warwick on a laid back weekend, be sure to drop in to this historic site. They have a cafe with great light meals, and coffee . . . . and if you feel like travelling back in time, pay the modest entry, and look around inside Glegallen. The staff are very helpful and happy, and love to chat about the history of the area.
Such a interesting beautiful old place.. I could imagine myself living there!
A beautiful old homestead made of Sandstone, built in 1886 it’s a true reflection,a look back at a time long ago , a treasured piece of history. Perfectly preserved, stop for a bite to eat at the cafe before or after you view the old homestead.
Highly recommended this very interesting heritage house. Great coffee and homemade scones before your tour of the house and grounds of Glengallan Homestead. Well worth stopping by. A must if travelling the New England Highway.
