Finglas Rd, Northside, Glasnevin, Co. Dublin, D11 H2TH, Ireland, Cill Chainnigh
Victorian burial ground of many prominent Irish figures, plus a museum with interactive displays.
Excellent tour, excellent guide. Learned more in 90 minutes than in my years in school with Irish history. Highly recommended value for money
Had an amazing morning and a great big thank you to the staff especially Grainne who took the time to share her wealth of knowledge with us Thank you
Really enjoyed this tour. Every school child in Ireland should be brought here. They will learn more here in a few hours than weeks in classroom! Our tour guide ? Surname Oman was very informative and delivered in a very interesting manner. 10 out of 10
Had an excellent tour of the new Extraordinary Lives tour, which was brilliantly told and hosted by Bridget. She was an excellent host, with great knowledge of the subject matter and brought the history to life. As a new tour, Ill raise one point of feedback: I would either introduce a break at the gravediggers pub for 15-20 minutes or ensure that the tour lasts for not more than 90 minutes. (Personally, I think the break option is the way to go)
What an experience: full of history, humour and tales of heroism. We were lucky with the weather, but even in the wind and rain, this would be a great tour to do. Fantastic guide!
I took the Extraordinary Lives tour last week and was lucky to have a wonderful guide Bridget who shared her wealth of knowledge on all the extraordinary men & woman buried in Glasnevin Cemetery. Some of us treked the 198 steps up the OConnell tower and I believe the view was amazing though muscles were sore by the time they got back down. Well done to the tour guides for organising this tour and passing on their knowledge and history and I look forward to my next tour.
Another beautiful place in Dublin. There are many well known people who are buried here. You can enter for free or pay for the museum. We opted for entry and walked around with map. There are soo many things to see in this cemetery. One recommendation I have is stop at the cafe get something to eat or drink before walking this cemetery. You can literally walk for hours which to me came as a pleasant surprise as I have never really been a cemetery visitor but I can say this place has changed that. You can get here by bus relatively easy. Last thing is look at the pictures in the reviews to give you idea of what to expect.
so special and moving- tour guide caitlyn has her craft down to an absolute art so fun and passionate & articulates such incredible stories that stay in probably so many people’s hearts 🌺🌺🌺
The tour is amazing. Take it you will not be disappointed!
Myself my husband and 2 friends did the tour , our guide was Niall he was brilliant, very interesting and storiez. We would higjly reccomend amusing amusing
Took the guided tour last week. Our Guide Niall Oman is a history teacher. Niall’s commentary is a nice balance of historical detail and humour. The tour covered Irish history from Daniel 0’Connell to Michael Collins. Guided tour highly recommended.
3rd time for doing the history tour and didnt disappoint. Not really into history but found this tour to be brilliant. Highly tecommend
Its a must do if you are visiting Dublin, the tour successfully manages to paint a picture of the political history and struggles of generations past. Its interesting from start to finish and you get to walk away with a bit of knowledge. 5 star!
Great historical tour of Glasnevin cemetery. Well worth the few euros for a 90 minute tour
A fantastic way to spend a couple of hours learning some Irish history. Katy, the guide for my tour, was knowledgeable and engaging. Beautifully kept cemetery with interesting stories, including a speech given at the burial of Rossa. Fantastic and well worth the ticket price, which also included going up OConnells tower which has its own potted history.
Was on the tour yesterday Frid Lisa was our Tour guide very Friendly person have been on this tour a few times really Enjoyed Thank you love our History x
Some of Irelands greatest patriots are buried here, including the great Michael Collins and Daniel OConnell
I have wanted to do this tour for years , finally did it yesterday. Niall our tour guide was very passionate about his History and full of knowledge with abit of the Irish sense of humour thrown in, great guy. Really enjoyed it and great value €26 for the two of us, everyone should do it well worth a trip. As the husband said it was one of my better ideas.
Really amazing irish history experience! The staff are soooooo passionate and good at what they do!!
Very beautiful cemetery and a very informative tour! We learned a lot about the Irish history and the monuments on the grounds.Great Tour by Daniel!Thank you
An amazing experience can not recommend the tour enough
Highly recommended.. On a rainy overcast Sunday, we thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Warren who was passionate about the history and the background stories of our leaders . The details are truly fascinating. Well worth the time spent .
Great tour and experience. Very knowledge guide. Best thing we did in Dublin!
Fascinating exhibition which, considering its size, kept me occupied for ages.I cant praise the guided cemetery tour enough. Our guide, Daniel, was knowledgeable and ready to answer any and all questions we had. He kept our undivided attention despite the rain spilling down during the tour!Highly, highly recommended!
I booked the irish history tour and it was really great. I learnt many things. I really recommend it !
Brought my granny here for a tour today and I was pleasantly surprised with how interesting the tour was. Caitrina (apologies if this is not spelled correctlywas an excellent, funny and very knowledgeable guide. Would highly recommend this tour.Lovely tea room on the facilities which was very pleasent to go to before our tour.Parking also available on site for €2, I would recommend going early as I would imagine the parking getting full later on in the day.
10/10 would recommend! Booked on a whim after hearing about it for years and we’re blown away by how enjoyable the tour was.Tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and witty, which was very impressive considering it ended up being nearly a 2 hours tour. Great weekend activity and lovely to brush up on my Irish history.
Our tour guide Daniel made our trip to Glasnevin Cemetery. He was so knowledgeable about Irish history and was able to answer any question our group had about the graveyard...and Irelands past! The tower is worth going up as well - there are some great views of Dublin to be seen.
Remarkable tour. Due to heavy rain and cold wind i skipped after the speech at the grave of ODonovan Rosa (which was really greatand though i have to come back. Next time Ill be better prepared.
So so so interesting! Our guide was brilliant and very well informed. Too much to hear so will definitely be back- facilities, cafe, parking etc also good 😃
A very interesting your. The tour guide, Bridget Sheerin has a wealth of knowledge & is very helpful & kind. It was an emotional visit knowing that thousands of people are buried there. The Cemetery is kept immaculate & it is a credit to Glasnevin Cemetery staff. The Museum is very informative & very well laid out. The tower is a tough climb but the view from the top is worth climbing every one of the 198 steps. The food in the Cafe is delicious. I would highly recommend a visit to Glasnevin Cemetery. 🐞🐞
I enjoyed learning a bit of Irelands history while visiting Glasnevin Cemetery.
Wow. I really like this place. The tour is fabulous and has many historical points if you are Irish or want to learn more. At Michael Collins grave the military perform a ritual at 2 pm everyday to honor this great man.
The most incredible cemetery I have ever seen it seems to stretch for miles and the monuments are absolutely amazing a must visit we have relatives buried there
Incredible! You can pay to take a guided tour or you can roam around on your own. Either way, its worth checking out! Several historical figures are interred here. Gift shop on site. Cafe on site. Bathrooms outside by cafe. There is parking for €2/day in the lot across the street from the entrance of the cemetery. (Or you can try your luck at any of the spots on the street. Be warned; traffic is a doozy and it is near impossible to actually pull into a spot on the street. Just save yourself the stress and use the lot!)
Excellent tour, very interesting and informative.
Quiet and historic place with an amazing 50 feet round tower right by its main gate.
This is an absolutely incredible place. It represents the whole history of modern day Ireland. A tour is essential though. The wonderful Warren, who showed us around, was incredibly knowledgeable and was able to give us great insights into the individuals lives and deaths. I normally do not enjoy tours but this was more like a clever friend chatting with you. Just absolutely great!
Wanted to do this for so long and eventually got around to do it. Paddy was our guide for the two hours. Absolute Gent, very knowledgeable and very easy to listen too unlike some tour guides who just run through it. Would definitely recommend this even if your not interested in Irish History.
Amazing tours staff are very good and very helpful the tour and Museum were fantastic its a must see fantastic day and cafe is very reasonably priced and good selection
Took the dead interesting tour, with Warren as our guide,he was very good and gave loads if laughs along the tour .We fineshed our day with a climb up the tower, well worth it for the great views over Dublin city and surrounding areas .We will be back to take the other tours .
A must see, as with most cemeteries, history is awash. I recommend visiting the Kilmanhaim Gaol first, with a guided tour, so that you may appreciate the significance of those buried here after the 1916 Easter Rising. Do visit the botanical gardens afterwards, if not just to lift your spirits.
Fantastic. Wonderful staff. Helpful genealogist on site. Worth an hour or two, whether you are searching for your ancestor’s grave, visiting the tombs of the famous (fallen heroes of the Easter Uprising, Knights, and writer’s are among the more than one million Dubliners buried here), or learning about the Influenza Epidemic that killed tens of thousands during and after The Great War (WWI). Oh, and the cafeteria is exceptional. I had one of the best meals of my time in Dublin and it was one of the least expensive! Add this to your list of places to see in Dublin.
Perfect for all necromantic people. Also for people interested in genealogy or irish history. Beautiful place.
Very cool. The guide tour with recitation is definitely worth doing.
Nice way to spend an afternoon getting to know more about Dublins historical characters
Great place to see beautiful religious art...
Glasnevin Cemetery was one of the best places I visited in Dublin. The tour was grand; had Alan for a guide and he was just brilliant. Answered all my questions about Irish politics- I truly got a private history lesson of post-civil war Ireland. Climbed the tower for the great views. If you’re a history fan then you must make a trip to the City of the Dead
Loved the tour and the re-enactment! The tour really made it worth the money and was an afternoon well spent. The museum was smaller than I expected and it was just alright. The grounds of the cemetery are beautiful though and I would recommend visiting!
Great museum a little pricey for a tour but learned a lot
