Serving traditional Chinese cuisine plus happy-hour & lunch specials in a wallpapered dining room.
When I mentioned I have a gluten allergy, the waiter brought over a GF menu! ๐๐ปReally enjoyed the salt & pepper prawns! My husband had some dim-sum appetizers and said they were also delicious.
We ate some delicious food at Ginger Cafe. Orange chicken, chicken fried rice, chow mein and the vegetarian eggrolls were very good. The crab wrap appetizer was the only food we didnt really like it. The waitress was extremely friendly but we could tell she was under stress having to take care of a lot of tables.
So glad we stopped here for dinner! Definitely will be back!
Awesome ๐+ delicious ๐คค. Unique menu. Restaurant also accepts your containers for takeout. So much good!
Visiting fr Arizona and my daughter took me here. very good. my favorite was the mango chicken
Came here with my family and its seems okay. If I lived in Gilroy, I would probably frequent this place but there are much better Chinese food places around the Bay Area.We tried some dimsum and it was a limited selection. The ginger iced tea was good.
The ambiance is nice. Took my wife to brunch here on a weekday. It wasnt crowded. We were the 4th party during their lunch.First time here. We tried the dim sum sampler. My wife ordered the rice dish that had chicken, Chinese sausage, and bok choy. I ordered the lemon grass lamb chops. All of it was really good. The lamb was tender and the wine reduction sauce helped to give it the flavor it needed to counter the minimal gamey taste. The prices are a bit on the high side.Service was good. Hostess and waiter were always attentive to our needs. They made sure our beverages were topped off.Overall, a pleasant experience and the food were above average. We will likely give this place another try.
Excellent Chinese food with a variety of unique dishes. The service was also top notch.
After spending a long day outside in the hills doing outoorsy stuff in the heat, and having just a few donuts and some water, we decided to stop by this place for a late lunch, early dinner on the way home. The place bills itself as having influences in Southeast Asia. To me, it was just disappointing. It didnt have any Cantonese flavor, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Thai, or whatever they intended when they said "Southeat Asian" influence. (Can you say "cop out?")It is almost like they cant decide which region to stick with, so they just stick everything on you and hope you dont know any better. When you try to be a generalist in everything...let me put it another way: Jack of all trades. Master of none. People pay to see a specialist who has specialized knowledge to solve their problems. Same thing for restaurants.A quick test on their quality is the standard Cantonese dim sum dish of pork dumplings (shi maand shrimp dumplings (you know, the one with the white-color skin wrap). The flavor here was meh. There are other places which do a far better job, cooking these dishes. The price was also high for what they offered. If you can, pass. We should have.
Good Chinese fusion dishes, friendly service.
It was great. I had all my food cravings satisfied!
Wow! I LOVE absolutely everything about Ginger Cafe! Exceptionally friendly, attentitive wait staff, incredible food ! Definitely recommend eating here!
Excellent tasty dishes, will adjust โheatโ as needed. Large servings, friendly staff and variety of drinks. Thumbs up!
Loved all of the food we ordered ๐ service was excellent and we will definitely be back ๐
Good food, prompt service but the food takes a little time to come out which is understandable as the food is well prepared when it does come out. We ordered multiple buns and split some lamb chops, will be back to try out more menu items
Ginger cafe is consistently great food. Ive been dining at this restaurant for approximately 10 years... Ive never been disappointed with the taste or quality. Light dimsum on the weekends!
I took a Chinese friend there. She said Panda Express was better than Ginger Cafe. If you like to try the Chinese food which is cooked by non-Chinese, please go ahead and try there.
Delicious.....as always. We had our normal of 2 orders of shrimp and bokchoy dumpling. We then added 1 order of pork shu mai, and an order of the lamb with cumin. Very, very nice
Worst experience ever!I donโt understand why do they have such great reviews! I ordered vegetarian noodles. And I could not even take second bite! And I was so damn hungry! There was no taste in food and noodles were undercooked! And their washrooms were so stinky and unclean! Such unhygienic place! Never going back again!
I took lunch here. Iโd say this is a typical American Chinese restaurant. Nothing bad but if you want some authentic Chinese food, I would recommend you go 40, 50miles north to the Bay Area
Decent service and decent food. Some of the dishes were too salty. I would avoid dim sum as they tasted like frozen dim sum to me.
A local spot in town that I unfortunately dont go to enough. Went the other day and was reminded of how delicious their food was. They have a variety of dim sum and so many options for pork, poultry and noodles. Their Crispy Skin Chicken is always my go to, the flavor is extremely pleasant.
This is my go to place for good chinese food (as opposed to fast food chinese). Amazing vegetarian options. I always go for the veggie fried rice (my go to at any chinese placeand also get the spicy mandarin tofu. This is the first place I feel like does the tofu well in this sort of dish. I missed very few meats when I went vegetarian, but lemon and orange chicken were definitely up there, so this was a huge find for me. It isnt crispy, but has good flavor and a good amount of heat (I eat around the peppers, but eating them adds a ton of heat for those that want it). I honestly havent tried the other vegetarian meals, but the mandarin tofu is so good I cant imagine any of the others topping it. I only have three restaurants Ill go out of my way to get food from and this is one of them.
Im glad I stumbled upon this place; the dim sum was delicious. There are so many more to try; Ill definitely be back.
Fried rice, so soft & delicious. Dumplings, so yummy. Nice place. Prices a bit high, but what isnt nowadays. More "fine dining" than casual. Cant wait to go back.
Ordered won ton soup for the entire family and it only comes with bok choy, mushrooms and dumplings. they literally only gave us two whole mushrooms. I called to let them know and they told me thats how it comes. Very skimp for the price.
The dim sum is good. We got the lunch special Basil Chicken, do not recommend. The chicken was rubbery and soft we thought it was white fish. The smell from the fish sauce was so bad and it just didnโt taste right (Iโm Vietnamese and love fish sauce). I ended up eating white rice with the sauce that comes with the Shang hai dumplings.
Wow!!!!Highly recommended, the food was amazing perfectly cooked.. the flavors everything is so good. The stuff is so friendly and you donโt need to wait too long to receive your food!
Love their roasted garlic fried rice and their dim sum. Ive been to the Sunnyvale location as well but would say this one is better. Service is not perfect, but I cut everyone a little slack due to COVID staffing shortages.Solid menu all around and decent pricing.
Odd place. Looks like a storefront takeout place from outside. Inside, its a nice restaurant.Interesting menu, but service is uneven. No chopsticks available.Ordered the dim sum sampler. Took a long time to get it. And they served it without any sauces or dips.Which is when we realized that they had never provided the usual bowl of crispy noodles or wontons with the usual sweet and sour dip.Ordered lamb chops. Got 4 tiny chops with a knife only for one of us. Knife was placed on the platter so it fell to the floor as the server was depositing the platter .No big deal. It was replaced- with one clean knife. Didnt come back to ask if everything was ok until much later.Ordered a spicy shrimp dish, which was really good.
Definitely worth visiting. Interesting take on Asian fusion dishes. We have been a regular at their location in Sunnyvale CA. For this Gilroy location, we tried out our favorite Tamarind Seafood Hotpot (suggest sharing for 3-4). Caramelized shrimp is absolutely mouthwatering. A word of caution- unlike other Asian places, they take a bit more time to serve. However, we didnโt mind the wait because the onions in the Shrimp dish were fabulously caramelized.๐
Delicious ๐ Just what we needed to refuel for more shopping!
Please beware of the pricing on all the online menus as they are not reflective of the latest prices. Peking duck for half was listed as $21 or $22 is now $30 and they are not offering a whole duck any more. By the way, it is not Peking duck; it is more a dried and burnt BBQ duck. I got it as a pick-up order on Mothers Day as my wife loves ducks but this was a big disappointment.
Very clean place with nice staff. The food was delicious and took very little time to prepare. While I personally did take out, if you are reading this post and it is still quarantine then I can say they had indoor seating properly distanced from each other.
Our waiter was wonderful, taking care of all our needs with speed and a smile. My meal, a chicken, sausage, tofu, vegetable blend really hit the spot, super tasty, heat hot. Healthy serving that I couldnt finish so the waiter boxed it up for me. I cant wait to warm it up for lunch.
I had tamarind hotpot and it was very light and yet delicious! I also ordered garlic sauce filet fish and stone pot rice, they were both excellent! Tamarind seafood hotpot and pineapple seafood fried rice was delicious!
In A Nutshell:-The Ginger Cafe location in Gilroy is very good.-They had outdoor seating (before it was banned due to stay-at-home orders 12/6/20).-The service was excellent, I hope they can keep their staff.-The food is very plentiful, the dim sum, fried rice & pad thai were all excellent & super tasty.-If you are shopping at the Gilroy Premium Outlets in the future & need some food, I think you should consider eating a meal here.Overall, the food quality is high-end & felt pretty healthy w/ good ingredients, definitely good food!
This qas our first time dining inside since the pandemic began. The food was delicious and the portions were dinner sized. I had Chicken Pad Thai and ended up boxing up more than half to take home. They socially distance. They have customers write down their contact info prior to being seated to help with contact tracing in the event there is an outbreak. They provide a small piece of paper with instructions on face mask etiquette while dining inside. The staff were polite, the service was great! We will definitely be back!
Now, while writing reviews, I cracked that all the Asian restaurants I visited in Bay Area suggested by colleagues. After shopping or shop-shopping for the entire day, I would recommend this place as a hard eatery. Their duck and chicken preparations are really good. Suggestion is to try different flavors of rice, instead of noodles. I was told momo is good here [which itself was enough for me to drag anywhere], and I liked their crab cakes too.
First time ordering tonight- and I have to say this was the BEST chicken salad and vegetable chow mien I have EVER tasted, and Im a great cook and old and from NY. (Hard to please!Simply wonderful, feel so blessed to have found this place.
We Love the Food and workers are freindly and your order comes fast, place is clean too
We were driving to Southern California and decided to stop by and get some food. Found ginger cafe in Gilroy. Really nice clean restaurant. Great service and perfect smoothing decoration. Waiters and waitresses were very nice and attentive. We order fish and duck, let me tell you I had tried duck before in a very fancy restaurant and I didnโt like but this time I decided to give a try more time. It was delicious really good flavor and cooked perfectly. My partner order fish and it was the whole fish very tasty and so much flavor. We loved This place and if you are in the Gilroy area make sure to stop by and try their food.
Food is always good. The portions are big so we do share dishes. My favorite is crispy tofu in mandarin sauce. We eat here when we come to Gilroy.
Omg. The dim sum was absolutely gross. The crab and shrimp were definitely NOT fresh and I could smell it before I took a bite. The wait staff barely helped us. The only thing that saved our mommy daughter lunch date was there chow mien (that was loaded with giant pieces of uncooked celery. We should have gone next door to fresh choice.
I love it. Its a really good place to have dinner. Highly recommended ๐๐๐๐๐
While walking around the shops at Gilroy outlets we saw several posters of wonderfully photographed dishes of Ginger Cafe. They truly worked on us. As we were driving toward the cafe we were telling ourselves not to expect too much as the actual dishes might disappoint. It didnt. All the dishes were great. Its a fusion of asian flavors so it didnt have a monotonous flavor that chinese dishes often have. Food service was quick too. Great restaurant option when in Gilroy.
This place was Great! The food was amazing & the service was excellent. I took pics of our dishes so you can see what they actually looked like. Most dishes were decent portion sizes and the Aloha drink was delicious. Restroom was clean, (except grout in floor& Id definitely recommend this place and will be back. Wish they were in the North bay๐
Food was pretty good. Not busy at all during the time we went (3pm on a Monday). Prices were $ - $$.
I was visiting friends for dinner. We tried many dishes. The food is always good here.
The main dishes were good. The dim sum was mediocre and quite disappointing. The ingredients in the dumplings were lacking, and not very tasty. But the sour egg drop soup was well made. I would go again for the main dishes only.
