Gimli Viking statue - Museum in Gimli, Canada
It is a lovely and peaceful place to go
I mean it’s just a statue, but for Manitoba, it’s worth seeing!Parking was a bit confusing, so I ended up just parking on the roadAlthough the status is pretty boring, it is by a really nice view to the lake.
Nice place to visit but everything closes after 7pmBeach is nice and clean not too crowdedLots of restaurants to try before 7pm
A glimpse into the history of Gimli! So cool to actually see that a lot of people here descended from the vikings and the city does live up to that historical fact with the viking monument and naming a lot of their places "viking". Cool monument showcasing history!
The Gimli statue, the beach and harbour, are the only attractions Gimli as to offer. the town itself is like a ghost town, most of the shops are now closed, not much place to get food. I believe this is killing tourism in that place. Local authorities should do something to revive tourism in Gimli....
It was so much fun. With my husband, daughter and grandson.
One of the places to visit in Gimli and learn some history lesson. There is a nice small garden around the statue.
Lake boardwalks beautiful, and strong coffee from flatlanders makes it all the more enjoyable
The statue is very interesting but also be sure to read the display describing it as well as the Viking rune alphabet. Right near the lake and Lakewalk.
The small town near Winnipeg, known as Gimli, has a good promenade and walkway with restaurants and villas facing the sea, a beautiful place with a sandy beach and very clean
Viking town in middle of Manitoba. Awesome little hidden gem location. Great view and have a bunch of local shop in the area
Great place for family outing.
Was a cold wintery windy day when I stopped by. Definitely coming back in the summer and doing the reading / walking tour. Great display/attraction !
A magnificent statue right by the marina! A good place to drop by for pictures. Nice little park at the vicinity too!
A surprisingly great location to visit! Away from the hustle and bustle of the piers, this quiet location has the statue surrounded in a beautiful arrangement of flowers and is wheelchair accessible. A must-see for anyone stopping in Gimli.
Beautiful area. Love visiting the Viking when I Gimli
I’ve seen these statue guys in city centres, usually you can see them blink or wobble, this fella was impressive, solid as a rock. I had no idea vikings were so huge, scared me a little so I kept my distance.Nice clean area to chill in.
Not a very good experience. You are not allowed inside anywhere unless you have proof of doue vaccination. Restaraunts wouldnt accept email confirmations of vaccination appointments. Good luck!
Nice statue close to downtown Gimli. Just a good something else to see and take a picture
Very small town. Good place to go for lunch or dinner if youre spending some time at q cabin by the lake
Very nice landscaping around the statue with a picturesque waterfront view. Tasteful upgrades, well done!
Awesome Gimli Viking statue surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds!
Beautiful park. Lots of little tidbits of history which is nice. One heck of a view of the lake. Area is well maintained... well minus some bushes along the walking path.. it could be trimmed. Not really anywhere to park though.
Beautifully landscaped and the statue has great detail. A must see August long weekend for the Viking festival!
the status park is peaceful and tells you many stories about Gimli and people who explored this area. It is quite beautiful by the shoreline and could be a must-see if you ever visited Gimli.
Cool statue to visit, not much else in the area aside from the beach though.
Awesome park to explore Viking history in the area and to Canada. Great area for a picnic or just unwinding near the water.
Beautiful gardens around this statue
We look forward in visiting this place every year! It is a small town where you can relax and explore their colourful history. You can go there and experience their Islandic Festival every year in August. You will enjoy the Gimli beach and the simple life they have.
Well, I heard and read so much about the Vikings festival and so my expectations were high for this event itself! Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed but , on the other hand, a visit to Gimli is truly worthy!Highlights to the Viking Statue, Lakeview, Mural and the beach! So, take your time and have fun! Its perfectly possible!
If you only see one statue of a giant Viking standing on the shores of an inland sea anywhere in Manitoba, make it this one.Being serious, now, Gimli is a great little town.
Its a beautiful but is a kind of hiding place, if you visit Gimli dont forget the picture with the viking
The status is great, but the Norse runes with English translations engraved into the walkway stones was very cool. The personal messages from donors engraved on the path stones was also a great touch.
The Gimli Viking Statue is a tribute to the heritage and culture of this towns original settlers. The gigantic statue looks truly impressive and is easily the most beautiful thing to visit in town.
Come read the stones on the ground and watch the sun set it is beautiful
Gimli is super cute. Statue is well maintained and the surrounding information is very educational. Well worth a stop if youre in the area.
Beautiful area to walk around, make sure you do the whole boardwalk.
The viking statue looks SO good. They renovated around it and added flowers and a little but of history about it. Definitely a place to visit if youre at gimli. Its a MUST.
Nice park with a cool statue. The area around it is nice and gives lots of history of the area. Interestingly most things are also translated into Viking runes. The area is nice and while you can only spend a little time here the town of Gimli offers some nice restaurants and a few nice shops.
A wonderful place overlooking the lake with a beautifully worked statue of a viking warrior. I saw several pictures of it before visiting the place myself and was astonished how much more impressive it was to see it out in the open and in full sunlight than just the fotographs.Even if you do not have an ancestral link to the vikings it still is a beautiful and impressive place to visit.
Beautiful how they did up the area around the Viking Statue and the park beside it. Visited early and late summer, so saw the different flowers.
This Standby has been updated. The Viking is even more Majestic and the area around it is pretty neatThere is history to read about the area there is views to look at. Ill bet a lot of people see it in the summer splendor. Make sure you have time to stop by and get the view.
A breathtakingly beautiful view of Lake Winnipeg and the solemn and stern Viking statue, surrounded by a lovely garden with houses for "the little people" and memorial stones engraved with family names. There is a pretty beach nearby, and the Icelandic Festival Viking Village also closeby during our visit.
Such a cool statue! This is actually a really scenic and delightful place to visit to learn about Gimli and the original families that settled there. The view around the statue is a gorgeous view of the lake and a very short walk from all the restaurants and shops in town.
A scenic and well landscaped statue and grounds. This is a pleasant stop to view some of the local Islandic history.
Wonderful piece of heritage. They keep this park very clean and beautifully landscaped. The ramp is a gently rise for those with mobility impediments.
Viking Park has a wonderful display about local Icelandic history and a small but serene park space around the Viking statue to contemplate the past and present, with the waves of the lake splashing nearby.
They have created a nice little park around the statue. It looks very good.
Gimli holds much history in its small but growing town. The great Viking statue has been home to many photos as he watches over his many residents. Gimli has many museums to enjoy & learn from. Walks along the pier to enjoy the lake or watch the sunset/rise is such a beautiful sight at anytime of year. Many restaurants with WiFi access.
One of my favourite statues to show my out of town guests.Although they added the viking park to surround the statue ( it now has nicer branch seating as well as a really informative history on the backside of the wall - see photoit is still great for picture taking. There are even stairs that allow you to get up close for better photo-op.It is located in a quaint Icelandic town of Gimli, North of Winnipeg. It also is right by a lakeside pathway for a short brisk hike to enjoy Lake Winnipeg.
