Gilgai TavernNot even worth putting any stars.We went in for Dinner after driving 8 and half hours plenty of tables no reserve sign on them.went to order our meals only to be told they couldnt serve us because we didnt have a booking. They wont serve you if you just walk in .So we left and went to the Kalbarri Motor hotelthe staff and the food were excellent no booking needed.

OK selection of beers on tap, happy to see Pirate Life as a choice. Wine choices OK, food was pretty good. Happy with the steak burger, although I lost bun integrity half way through it was tasty and great value for money, lasagna special was great as was the grilled prawns with rice. They may be under staffed but they were all super friendly and provided great service.

Great place to relax. Remember to book if you want to eat

Gilgai Travern is quite busy and it is better to book before you go.. They were well organized and when we arrived they had a table prepared . Food was ready within a reasonable time. The portion sizes are very good. I will definitely come again.

A good watering hole that had its lid blown off by hurricane Seroja last April. Friendly staff and a wonderful chef whos in desperate need of help.Support the locals!!!

We arrived 15 minutes late and were told you have missed your booking so we have moved you to 45 minutes later to order food. We said but we were booked in at 6 so can we order drinks or sides. No you can order drinks then sides in half an hour.We ordered drinks then were told we had a 6 pm order time so need to order then ...well if we arrived at 6 wouldnt we have a few minutes to settle n read the menu.Not happy with service or delivery of the message ...all very serious and unfriendly

Good atmosphere & good food. The chicken parmi is absolutely massive! Food took a while to come out but had staff shortage so understandable.

Best Barra I have had for yonks, just been through NT and down the WA coast from Broome, havent had better. Big serve to, not half serve like some joints. Full marks!

Lucky to get in with a last minute cancellation. Beer battered Barra was massive and perfectly cooked! Great meal!

We have had 2 wonderful meals here on our break from Perth.A lunch time Parmi and Dinner ,the Stir fry and the Rump ,.both great meals .very big .and the staff wonderful and friendly

Be sure to book before coming. We went on a Thursday and all the inside tables were fully booked. Had a great time here. In general, food was cooked well (the skin on the pork belly was unfortunately a little tough, but everything else was greatand portion sizes were generous. They have a specials board next to the counter so make sure to check it out before ordering too.

Lunch last Friday was excellent as usual....calamari cooked perfectly, parmigiana very tasty. Staff friendly.

Booked for dinner @ around 3 & got the last indoor table (whew!). (Saturday night)The food & service was wonderful. Staff seemed very young but so well trained. One young lass had only started there the day before but she was being trained to cover all aspects, bar, meals (ordering), service and those (“kids”training he didn’t seem much older but it was just fantastic to see them covering off all aspects of good service and she was picking it all up straight away.Well done!

One of the best Pubs in town. We came in for dessert after a night out and had one of the best dessert for $9 that we have ever had. The meals that other people were having looked great as well. Must try.

Don’t bother. We had to look for someone to serve us. Large outdoor area where we assumed our dog would be welcome but after buying drinks we were informed that as they didn’t have a grassed area we could not have our dog there??? Not a friendly tavern

Booked a table last night. Great friendly staff, doing a great job, reasonably priced drinks and food was great. Steak with mushroom port sauce and beer battered barramundi served with salad & chips. All cooked to perfection. Highly recommend

We were walk in and got a table within 30mins. We ordered a steak and were recommended the pork ribs by the bartender. We were not disappointed. Steak cooked perfectly medium and the mushrooms and port sauce was delicious. The pork rib sauce was lovely and sticky and full of flavour.

My friends and I came here when staying in Kalbarri, it was busy so we had to book a table. Would come here again. The food was yummy, Good portion sizes and good prices. We had the pork ribs (tender and amazing), the chargrilled rump steak was very good too, it’s an extra $10 to make it surf n turf, generous amount of prawns and garlic sauce. You can also add garlic prawns to the chicken schnitzel. They have a few different options for customising a Parmy. The sticky date pudding was so light and fluffy. We were very happy with our meals 😌

Good pub but strange business model re food or just drinks. Managemaent book out all the tables before evening when about jyst half are real bookings, they say one chef can only hanle so much so clise off most other tables. Thats fine but dont they know plenty of people are happy to eat elsewhere but still come into this nice pub for a drink or two...strange place but will always go back again. Lovely staff

Watch out for online booking with this place, had a confirmed booking for 6 and arrived to really rude staff who said they are not affiliated and dont take online bookings. Showed them the booking to which they confirmed it was their address and phone number and we were the second one with same problem tonight. Didnt try to help us at all, no where else for a family of six to eat on a Tuesday so were going hungry tonight!

Jeeeez best Ribs I have ever had amazing chunky meat that falls of the bone stunning flavour. Bar staff amazing highly recommend this amazing gem of a tavern 🍺 🙌.

Hamburger for $13 wasn’t too bad I guess at least it was flavoursome. Chips were extra and the waiter was good and courteous. Over all deserves a cost if your in town.

Best Pub Meal we loved it here we ended up eating here every night and booked as it gets busy and we did not want to miss outWas just Awesome

We always head here in our trip to Kalbarri. Food is always brilliant, waiter staff brilliant but the 2 oldies that run it are always rude. Last year I was yelled at by the lady as I sat down at an unreserved table without asking. This stone takes the cake. Whilst I was there, we were the only ones asked to show our vax very, easy! Lost my place in the long queue to get my phone, for him to not even look at it! With restrictions this strict you’d think that the chefs would be wearing masks! NO CHEFS WEARING MASKS!!If you are going to be tough in patrons, which I really do appreciate, I do, don’t not have food prep staff without masks.

Had the scotch fillet medium rare and garlic prawns with rice to share the scotch was cooked to perfection garlic prawns were so tender and full of flavour. Will definitely be back 😍 Thankyou Gilgai Team

Not a place I would go out of my way to go back to, service was average, one waitress looked like she didnt want to be there. Food was ok, had the ceasar salad which would have been dismal if I did not add anything too it. The steaks looking appealing and portions were decent

Amazing meals & service on both occasions. Highly recommend this tavern for family friendly delicious meals. Especially the noodle salad, stir fry & chicken Rogan Josh. We will be back!

Has to be one if the rudest people I have come across on my trip. Myself and partner entered with our 8yo. She had already got herself a toasted sandwich on the walk as there wasnt one on their menu. After we sat down we were informed that food couldn’t be brought in. We explained that we would be ordering 2 full meals and drinks and that they didn’t have the item the little one wanted on their menu. They didn’t care. Must be nice to have so many customers that are happy to lose a full lunch order. No other place has ever been an issue on our trip.

Food is always delicious here. Reasonably priced. The Gilgai is always on our list when we are in Kalbarri.

A great meal had by myself and partner on Saturday night. Value for money with the rump and surf and turf topper. Given shortage of staff around we couldn’t fault the service from the girls on the bar to the staff cooking the meals. Great effort guys.

The food was excellent and the staff were all so friendly and helpful despite being so busy and understaffed. We thoroughly enjoyed the lamb cutlets and chicken parmigiana. It is recommended that you book in advance as there are still many restaurants still closed due to the cyclone earlier in the year. Highly recommended.

Like every place in kalbarri at the moment the Gilgai is chronically understaffed, so make sure you book ahead.We had the surf and turf (steak and prawns), and the parmy.The parmy was tasty and generous. The surf and turf was a mixed bag. The prawns were ok, but the steak was tough.There arent many options for a walk-in dinner on a Monday in kalbarri at the moment, so the Gilgai is not a bad option.

Fish N Chips tasted fresh and the lemon lime bitter excellent. Friendly service, I’m enjoyed having lunch here highly recommended

Well it was cold we got to the tavern and had to find a spot it was busy. We sat outside but when a better seating spot was free the great staff helped us out. I had the spicy ribs and all I can say there was no time to take a pic until i was done

This place walks all over their competitor across the road. A friendly, warm welcome from the staff was the beginning of a great experience.The menu had a wide variety of tasty meals including vegetarian and vegan!I had a vegetable stir fry with cashews. It came out of the kitchen looking so well put together, that alone gets 5 stars! My husbands steak was cooked to perfection.The restaurant was clean and soft music was playing. Plenty of beverages available. A good range of beers, wines and spirits.Definitely go to this tavern 😊

Dont judge a book by its cover, older style tavern, but the meals are absolutely amazing. Tempura squid was delicious, the Mediterranean salad was amazing. We saw another table order the spicy nachos, the plate was huge. Highly recommend going there

We have started going here most Friday nights and have had some terrific steak, the scotch fillet is beautiful and there are a range of options to have with it like sauces and/or toppings like garlic prawns or squid etc and are all very nice. We can highly recommend them. The cheaper option of rump is also nice if you prefer rump. I try to have something different now and again since the husband is the regular steak man, the stirfry chicken or beef is always tasty and so filling, sometimes specials off the board include Bluebone fish with creamy garlic mussels is a welcome change along with Salmon with sweet potato and Mediterranean vegetables is another favourite of mine. The son often has chicken parmigiana which is always huge and tasty, fills his hollow legs! Pasta is also on his menu. Tried the ribs recently and they have a tasty sauce, some was a little tough which is unusual as have had them some time back and they were melt in your mouth. Friday night means "Pick a box" which is always fun with great prizes and the meat raffle is always on offer too.

Plenty of seat you have the luxury to choose wherever u wanna sit. Very fresh oyster, calamari, and good salad. So glad that we get to choose to go with grilled fish for our fish and chips! Love it! The fried lamb and fried chicken wings were just ok though.

Terrible. Took away a 350g rump steak, medium rare. Meat was extremely tough, probably well done. And the size.. LOL. Look at how small that is. "350" grams. DO NOT EAT HERE.

Ridgey Didge Pub serving up one of the best steak sandwiches in Western Australia. Cold beverages on offer with cool sea breeze and great views.

Been in here a few times lately and was always great! Had lamb cutlets this time that were small on some plates and large on others at the same table along with the chip portion sizes on each plate varying making us a little uncomfortable. Lamb cutlets were overcooked and not the same usual good quality cutlets we are normally accustomed to which was very disappointing. Steaks were lovely with only one being a little over cooked. Normally chicken parmigiana is huge but the birthday girl on this particular night had a much smaller one than she normally gets. Hope this was just a one off occurrence as we hope to return here many times.
