Good menu a little heavy on fish + seafood for my taste but a great dinning experience.
Literally the best accommodations and food. We couldn’t have been more pleased! I highly recommend, and we will be sure to stay again upon our return.
Very enjoyable time delectable food Superb Eton Mess and relaxing atmosphere. Helpful woman who served us. Accessible toilet
Great menu, rustic and refined food, local ingredients, good wine menu and excellent service.
Comfy bed, nice room, helpful staff.Lunch and dinners high quality.
Located in Eton High St. A short walk to the River Thames and Windsor Castle. Classic bistro menu. Friendly service and nice wine choices
Best rib eye steak I’ve ever tastedUpdate 2022: Went back to have the steak that stuck to my memory but it wasn’t as great anymore. Maybe my taste has changed :/Service was still great though. Mediterranean vegetables terrine was lovely
Amazing lunch for Grandma’s 80th.Emma and her team really looked after us.Love this place.
lovely meal and super staff ,had Sunday lunch which was lovely and tasty .
Very good food and service. Recommended.
Excellent quality food, and eclectic wine list. Prices have risen significantly since my last visit though.
Fabulous business lunch at Gilbey’s in Eton that was so good we changed our arrangements and booked our Dinner with friends and it did not disappoint- ambience, service, wine and outstanding food. Perfect.
A really fine dinning restaurant with an excellent French Chef. The place offers variety of different high end dishes. A big choice of great wines and excellent service. This restaurant offers as weel a private event room for family or business dinners on the first floor with individual approach to clients need. Worth to stop and give a go for a great experience dinner for one, couple and group. The restaurant has a conservatory with sitting for I guess up to 30 people for private events, a garden and upstairs exclusive rooms to rent for stay and a presidential suit on the second floor. Cannot miss that whole in Eton!!!
Dined as guests of friends at a celebration dinner. Staff very accommodating and polite. Food is generally very good, but some food pairings are strange.
Eton mass was great! Wish the donation included in the bill was more voluntary.
Unfortunately the restaurant appeared to be understaffed. The prices are steep and not reflected in the quality of food.
Gilbeys is a lovely hotel situated above a small restaurant in the heart of Eton just a 20 minute walk from Windsor Castle. We stayed in a beautifully decorated room with an equally lovely ensuite shower room and the most comfortable bed Ive slept in. The staff at Gilbeys were very polite, friendly and helpful throughout. We opted for a full English breakfast which is an additional cost and served in the restaurant and it was worth every penny. The food was of an excellent quality and tasted amazing. We would most definitely stay here again.
Great staff and good food, what more do you need,
We had dinner here the other night. The service here was astonishingly rude. We asked for a chair to be added to our table and it was as if the world collapsed. Slow service thereafter and no courtesy, particularly from the head (gentlemanwaiter. None of us will go back or recommend this place.
Very impressed with Gilbeys restaurant. Upon walking in from the street you are greeted with a large, plus and well decorated interior. We were a group of 10 people who received very attentive service from the waiter. The food was cooked and presented to a really high standard. Good wine selection. Great place to come for a special occasion.
Following a visit today for lunch we thoroughly enjoyed our main choice although found the white wine by glass choice limited to 3, not the best quality & quite pricey. The food was very tasty & well presented, location & interior decor & cleanliness of toilets ticked the boxes.Sadly we were disappointed with the customer service. 1 female staff who was obviously serving did not greet us or advise that she would be with us shortly so we just waited !Once seated at table we noted 2 customers coming to bar to get her attention. A 2nd more experienced waitress joined momentarily. We also asked for attention on 3 occasions and our finished plates were left far too long on our table before collection. No finger bowl was offered for the mussels, we had to request one.Recommend far more attention is given to customer keeping an eye on their needs, a greeting when you arrive & depart, a few smiles and perhaps less chatting to chef who visited the bar!Service included & paid although grudging on my part. Believed observations wouldn’t have been accepted if highlighted to staff.Shame as service is key nowadays not only quality of food. Will not be returning.
Visited Gilbeys in Eton and was instantly welcomed by friendly, attentive staff who sat us in a cosy nook right by the window. Every item on the menu sounded delicious - making it so hard to choose! Show stopper: their White Lake Dairy Goats Curd Cheesecake with Saffron poached pear, herb salad and Jerusalem crisps starter was exceptional..The bowl of muscles absolutely packed with flavor. Even the soup starter was sensational. If youre in the area, perhaps visiting Windsor castle, I highly recommend booking a table at Gilbeys. Theyre popular for a reason.. so dont miss out.
What a meal!!!!!!!Hats off the chef and the team!!! The food I just had for dinner was INCREDIBLE - the texture, the taste the presentation.... This will now be my go-to place! Well done team (oh, and the wine selection is fantastic, we ordered this wine pictured, and it was superb)I highly recommend, hope you enjoy as much as I did :-)
Delightful little place a short stroll from the train station. Just three rooms so we were lucky to secure a bookingCosy decor, spacious bathroom, comfy bed and decent amenities. Welcoming and friendly staff.Food at the restaurant downstairs was superb. I tried cooked breakfast one morning and continental version next day, they were both very good. Dinner menu was great, after the first evening we decided not to look elsewhere and tried different dishes the following night.
The service was good and the food nice enough, but youre left with the sense that youre paying over the odds simply due to the restaurants location.
Very average! I was holding high hopes for an experience that never happened. We booked Gilbeys for lunch on a Monday. On entering the restaurant we were ask if we booked. After giving our name we were pointed from the bar to our table "youre over there". The seating was cramped and table too small to hold any amount of drink or food. The staff seemed not to care about the struggle we had getting seated and made no effort to help. My wife was left sitting on her coat and my coat kept falling on the floor. I had to ask for somewhere to put my umbrella. My wife ordered an £11 cocktail which came in a plain champagne flute with no garnishing and looked very ordinary. Food service was rushed. We were offered bread while we waited for our starter and before we had even taken a bite of the bread our starters were brought to the table. When the mains came the plates were literally thrown on the table and my wifes almost toppling off the table. At no point of our visit were we asked how the food was and at no point asked if we wanted more drinks. The restaurant was not busy. This was proved by the staff standing around at the bar playing with their mobile phones. We got the bill and found we were charged £2.50 for two small slices of bread and a service charge which on reflection we should have disputed. To sum the experience up.The service was less than satisfactory. The food was very standard and no different to your average pub meal. Over priced and did not deliver on expectations. Such a shame that other establishments do a better job but do not get the recognition.
Christmas dinner on Saturday for about 15 of us. Great location and wonderful food, looked a nice restaurant but staff were really disinterested and rude. Food was delayed, we sat down at 8pm and had main course served at 10pm. Such a shame - I’m sure they’d had a busy day but that’s the job isn’t it. Something not right with the team or management.
Had the most amazing meal here! Fantastic quality of food and interesting menu. The waitress was lovely and I am genuinely impressed. Would come back here as often as I can afford.
Love Gilbeys. Honestly, Sunday lunch here is a good notch or two above the standard fare. Great service, lovely decor. Dont hesitate if you are in the area. Thanks @gilbeys for looking after us today!
Very good restaurant and would recommend. Highlighted by the fact that Tom Kerridge was eating in there at the same time as us. We went for the fixed price 2 course menu at £23. Excellent quality food, portion size was what you would expect from a quality restaurant.
Cannot speak highly enough about this place. We were a party of 13 and nothing was too much trouble for the staff here. Its low key relaxed but smart. Food outstanding. We ate off the party menu - 3 courses for £30. Highly recommend. Will come back as soon as I can. Lovely walk through the town to get there from our hotel.
Been going there for years, but last time it was better than ever. Great food and wine selection. Try the Cornish White wine, its wonderful. Great service as always
Just returned home after staying for 3 nights with the wife in Number 3 Townhouse. Room superb, bed so comfy with its bespoke mattress, plenty of in room Tea, Coffee (percolated & expresso& bottled water (still & sparkling). Ensuite superb with choice of a seperate shower or a stylish deep bath infact the decor alround was very stylish. Brekkie delicious & sets you up nicely for your day exploring the sites & the waitress was really excellent in her duties. The Restaurant menu also looked very 5 star & nicely priced although we didnt partake as we tended to eat out whilst out & about, made to feel very welcome indeed by the staff. Safe parking just around the corner this Establishment ideally situated to visit Windsor whether your sightseeing, a bit of retail therapy or a night at the Theatre Royal.
Really great food and nice atmosphere. Staff were brilliant, very attentive and really seemed to know their stuff....good wine sales people too!
This was such an amazing experience, I visited on September 4th 2021. Your waitress that was there in the morning was so sweet and very helpful. The Full English Breakfast was absolutely perfect, even better than I could have ever imagined. From the melt in your mouth and delicious smokiness of the bacon, to the perfectly cooked eggs, and all the amazing jams you have (first time having black currant, and I love it now!it was definitely a once in a life time experience. Thank you for making my first time in the United Kingdom a special one. I definitely reccomend checking this place out if you have the chance!
I cant find fault. The wait staff were lovely. The food was delicious and served quickly. I had the sea bass on pecorino risotto with roast cauliflower and samphire. I cant recommend this place highly enough, I will definitely return.
Early evening set menu on a Saturday. The food was absolutely delicious and cannot fault the service. All within a beautiful setting, cannot recommend enough.
Delicious, if expensive, lunch. Tables set well apart and service excellent. Offered tap water, which came in a jug with ice, at no cost. Would return, interesting menu, generous portions. Lovely waitress.
Fantastic food and atmosphere. Place is much bigger than it looks from outside. Conservatory area at the back is lovely. Our waiter was very chatty. Would highly recommend.
Highly recommend this restaurant! We arrived after a long day of boating and were delighted by a shared starter of succulent calamari and scallops. I went for the lamb rump with a side of shepherd’s pie and it was absolutely delicious, creamy spinach, rainbow carrots and mushrooms. The Chardonnay on the abbreviated menu was a winner, served by very friendly and attentive staff. Winner.
Average....the staff were really friendly and the interior was pleasant...The food wasnt great. A starter of scallops (virtually rawand squid (in burnt batterwas really disappointing served on a green mess of something tasting like pea soup with a lemon squeezed on. And a pot of "fish sauce" that I reckon was bachelors mushroom soup!!!The fish and chips was for main...chips were huge and crispy outside with a uncooked inside..and the fish was awesome (although sardine sized)The tartare sauce was awesome. The wine we ordered (a Chardonnaywas fantastic. The pork main was nice but portion sizes very average. I left and made a sandwich when we got in!
Had a fantastic experience for a special birthday meal: very stylish restaurant, all the staff were so welcoming and the food was delicious and original. Would love to go again and highly recommend.
Was given a voucher for Gilbeys and did not know what to expectWe were immediately impressed by the welcome by the waitress/ receptionist. She immediately put us at easeFood was faultless and beautifully presentedCould not fault anything. Alas we did not get the name of the waitress but she had dark hair on duty this lunchtime and should be complemented on her great attitude
We visited Gilbert’s for our wedding anniversary dinner and it was the best meal I have had in Windsor. The staff were really friendly and managed to find a table for us in the beautiful garden. The food was delicious and we will definitely be back when we are next in Windsor!
With a menu of middling breadth, the quality of the food is great and in line with what one might expect from the appearance of the place. The staff are friendly and helpful, but not too attentive and somewhat baffled occasionally by the small size of the tables. We were left to pass out our own side plates and cutlery rather than having them placed, which was a contrast to what we were led to expect given the prices and attitude of the staff otherwise. The food was served promptly, was well presented - despite the limited table space - and tasted the part as well.Although commendable, the extra £1 for a local charity and the 12.5% service charge is added to the bill by default. If you’re not fond of paying so much, even for a good cause, then there are other places close by which offer similar quality and experience.Overall we had a lovely evening and enjoyed the food in a quiet, well decorated restaurant!
Great service and food was excellent. The main of lamb three ways was the highlight. Desserts were also good. It has a casual vibe and is also a hotel. There is street parking available which is free in the evenings (after 6pm I think)
Beautiful place. Lovely decorated with excellent British cuisine (with a bit of a twist).Their service was impeccable from start to finish. They allowed me to bring a diabetic birthday cake and provided everything we needed for the celebration. There was an one-off issue with my starter but their service made up for it.It was my first time after a very long time (before the updateand I can say, Things improved enormously.
Superb staff. Brilliant food - delicious and meticulously presented. Ambient and warm. I went for my sons first outing with all of my friends and family in the Private Gallery Dining Room. Seats 34 but felt spacious comfortable with my group of 15, so it is very flexible. Happy customer and Dad right here.
Lovely meal, good portion sizes, perfectly cooked and a fantastic menu to choose from. The staff are attentive, friendly and always happy to help. There was an incredibly loud and rude party in when we first arrived and the staff did everything they could to deal with the situation and avoid letting it impact other diners experience - a difficult situation fantastically handled.Cant fault a thing.
First class food, first class service, I cant think of one negative comment. Really friendly greeting on arrival and shown to our table. Great menu with a good wine list to accompany it. Quite expensive and Id say the food was worth it, but the wine a bit over priced starting at just under £30.Great evening, thoroughly recommend it - Eton is great for an evening stroll after dinner too :)
