Gibbs Farm in Stillwater
Description
Jenna gave an excellent tour. It was wonderful to hear a story of a settler who was respectful of native people.we really liked the sod house. It looked like a good way to have a very cozy insulated dwelling.Jenna told interesting stories about native customs and Gibbs family history. It was a fun outing for an afternoon and we recommend it
MoreI went on a field trip with my daughter and her class to Gibbs Farm. The guides were very friendly and made it enjoyable for the kids and adults. Very interesting history about the Gibbs family and the Dakota Indians. ❤️💙
MoreGreat place for kids
Was very informative and interesting! We went with a vast age range and they accommodated us the best they could. The littles probably would have liked more hands on stuff, which they offer in other tours, and we picked the combo one! We got to make candles and the kids loved it. They asked lots of questions and were interested in learning about the Dakota and Jane Gibbs.
MoreVery nice place and be sure to join the guided tour. The tour gives a detailed overview of the history of the farm and Dakota culture overall. Totally enjoyed our time here. Recommend!!
MoreThe best farm in town!
Beautiful day for a walk
We enjoy this place very much. It is a good place to spend a couple hours learning a bit about the history of native people and pioneers in this area. We also enjoy the summer day-camps here.
MoreGorgeous place to get married.
I would give this place 0 stars if it let me.I found a post saying that they had a holloween party on the 29th from 10 to 4. I showed up with my two toddlers and was told that I was mistaken. After I showed the woman the post she said, very rudely, I had to leave. I wouldnt have rated this place if I was shown a little respect and they took a little responsibility and apologized for there mistake. I will never recomend or go there again. Staff was rude.
MoreThank you for the guided tour today Robert!
amazing venue for a wedding.
Wonderful visit.
Wonderful information & helpful guides. Great experience for young & old
Beautiful place to have a fun outdoor wedding in the cities. Fun family atmosphere and it’s in a very central location.
MoreFantastic for toddlers! Kind, helpful staff and hilarious (and friendlyanimals.
Went with my daughters class. Not what I expected. Wish to have seen more. But interesting.
MoreGreat field trip experience for kids to learn about native culture!
We did an insulation job for them. Great people
My kids did the MEA weekend day camps here and they loved it! Out in nature, learning about history and feeding animals, doing art. The only caveat I would add is they didnt seem to learn much about the Native American history of the area which we thought they would given the huge teepee on the property.
MoreFantastic opportunity to learn more about the past
Free parking, pioneer tour. Robert was excellent as a tour guide and had a lot of historical knowledge to share about the family and life during the mid-19th century in general. The staff is really friendly. Gibbs Farm is an important piece of Minnesota history and it is so nice to see it preserved.
MoreLoved the old farm house
Nice done. Great camp.
Such a neat place to stop and get some great history about farming life in 19th century Minnesota! Robert is a top notch tour guide. You don’t want to miss out on this!
MoreAn interesting historic oasis in the middle of the city. This 1850s farmstead is well- preserved, and tells the story of early settlers of this area, as well as their native American neighbors. Absolutely worth the visit.
MoreLove the story of it history and ice cream to
Performed a wedding here, nice venue
Inexperienced employee. Didnt seem like he should have been giving tours without some better training. Pretty short fuse with children, which is surprising for someone in his position. Went with a field trip group. From what I heard our experience was our group only, but other reviews tell me its not exclusive to us.
MoreI love this museum that beautifully conveys the life of pioneers and Native Americans in the 1800s!
MoreVery nice, fun place
Fun place for the family
Excellent, quaint, preserved and reconstructed old farm structures with an interesting stoyr, that managed somehow to bare survive the University of Minnesotas somewhat predatory land policies.
Morefun history lesson in the middle of the city!!! learn about some of the first farmers in the area
MoreGreat field trip! Kids enjoyed. Remember going as a child with my class, super fun to go with my childs class. Lots of history.
MoreMy child went to Gibbs farm as part of a class field trip. We where informed to have a disposable lunch and a disposable water bottle with him.He informed me after they had a quick lunch and he barely had time to drink the guide informed him he has to throw away his water because " what was in the exhibits ", even though multiple other kids had refillable water bottles and where allowed to keep them through out the day. Also he stated they didnt have aby drinking fountain ethier.Parents be warned send your kids with refillable water bottles !!!!
MoreSo wonderful here. Such warm and knowledgeable staff. The history behind the Gibbs family farm is fascinating. Kids will love it here. Definitely take the 45 minute tour. They give you free homemade ice cream. FREE ICE CREAM!
MoreI attended with my childs class field trip. The staff was energetic and filled with information about the Gibbs family farm. It was a good experience and I would certainly go again.
MoreWent with my sons class on a field trip. It was very interesting to learn about the history of the Dakota people and see how they lived.

This place is awesome, great for the kids
A farm in Minneapolis.... Pretty cool
To tour guides are fantastic and very knowledgeable in the history of the farm and family that lived there. A lot of different things going on, such as metal foraging, ice cream social and a couple different tours. Really enjoyed our morning and learned a lot as well.
MoreWent with my first graders last week and was not impressed. As a farm, was expecting more animals and hands on activities to engage students. Instead it was a lot of story telling and not well planned activities. Perhaps it was just that we had a poor guide. He was very graphic about some violent aspects of the Dakota life talking about cutting open a buffalo head and using the brains to smash on the hide and stabbing muscrats until the whole family was dead. At one point he demonstrated how to build a teepee. He was not very clearly about explaining what to do and at one point walked away from the wooden posts and they fell over nearly missing a 6 year olds head by inches! She would have been seriously injured had they hit her. We ended at a bracelet making activity that was very challenging for most of the 6 year olds and required a lot of adult assistance. I tried to keep things moving so we wouldnt miss our busses and reminded him that we had to meet busses and were running late. He had the nerve to tell a fellow tour guide as we were leaving that we "had trouble rounding up the kids" and that was why we were late. Next year we will be looking for a new field trip location.
MoreThe Haloween event was a lot of fun, but not scary like I was expecting.
