Basalt columns jut upwards out of the sea at this iconic landform with a modern visitor's centre.
Signage outside once youve parked is a bit poor but once youre on the road to the bottom of the cliffs its well maintained. The attraction itself feels a lot smaller than tv programs would suggest, but if the weather is good and you have the time, explore the cliffs for a mile east for more spectacular rock formations!
I think the visitor center and the vast throngs of visitors detracts from the beauty of the Giants Causeway. When I visited 20 years ago the place was relatively desolate and held much more mystery as a result.Im not sure if there is any solution to this. If people want to see the place you cant stop them from coming. There seemed to be a lot of whistle stop tours. Maybe if tourist went to some of the other beautiful places on the coast, the Giants Causeway would be less crowded.
What a great place to go. Definitely one of a kind. Theres also loads of places to take photos, which is a good thing when there are lots of people visiting. There is a bus ride available as well from the entrance to the stones, just £1 for a single ticket. If you dont mind a little exercise, I recommend to walk from the entrance to the stones and just get the bus to go back up the mountain. Theres no entrance fee to go see the stones but theres a fee if you want to go inside the visitor centre.
A very unique place to visit, the exagonal stone design by nature is awesome and enigmatic. You can catch many tours to get here from Dublin, is always better to visit during the week when is not very crowded. Make sure to get a nice camera or phone your pictures will be amazing.
Although I liked it I must admit to being a little underwhelmed. Maybe if the tide was out more would be visible.Still certainly worth a visit. Its certainly unusual.Be advised there is a 10 minute walk which is all uphill coming back up. However I believe for those that prefer an easier ride there is a shuttle bus that runs up and down.
Absolutely stunning natural beauty. Definitely worth a visit. If you dont want to have the Causeway Experience, you can drive further along the road and to the left is a car park. Costs £10.
Easy accessibility via the visitors center with ample parking and only a short 10 min walk down to the coastline. Worth getting there before peak times so the area isnt overly crowed and would definitely recommend the hike just beyond the main area.
What an incredible place to see hexagonal basalt configurations! It is located about a half mile from the entrance, and one can also take (and payfor a bus instead of walking. It is free to enter/see the Causeway but one will pay for parking and to enter the Visitor Center. There are many fun and accessible columns to walk around, take pictures, and a few security officers who ensure that no one falls into the Atlantic ocean or gets too close.Watch out for slippery rocks since the weather here may not always be nice and beautiful!
A spectacular location with stunning views. The hexagonal shape stones for as far as eyes can see with mountain and sea as the backdrop. There are shuttle services that run up and down (£2 for round trip). However it is easy to walk down from parking lot too! A must visit place!!
Cool place to see and a must if you are on the coast. Went first thing in the morning and it was very quiet which made it much more pleasant. There is not really much to do other than scramble about a bit and it’s definitely not for anyone with mobility issues. Strangely there were no information boards at the causeway explaining the history or the geology.
Impressive natural feature. One of Northern Irelands must see. Very busy today, lots of queues at the car parks. Best to arrive early. £10 car park fee at the site, £5 car park fee at the local farmers field. You can either walk down to the Causeway or you can catch a bus there and back. Definitely worth the effort to walk down, so many amazing views. We didnt go into the visitor centre, bit too expensive.
This is so worthwhile! It is a beautiful scenic walk on an east path, about 1/2 mile down. They do have a bus to take you there and back for 1 pound each way, but walk if you can! Even the way up is fairly easy and not too steep. The pictures don’t do it justice, you need to see this yourself!!!
Spectacular place. Definitely recommend visiting. You can get an audio guide and spend time walking on 4 different pathways discovering the Giants Causeway and the surroundings. I recommend going for at least 3-4 h if you want to walk different paths. Otherwise, 1-2h is enough to see the Giants Causeway.
A must do activity if you are in the area. Some of the views are amazing and the walks are invigorating. There are toilets, refreshments, gift shops and presentations at the entrance end (make sure you use facilities before going to visit the causeway). Parking is free if you do the experience visit.
Very cool spot. Luckily had some friends drop us off and pick us up to save from paying the expensive parking. Skipped the visitor center which requires tickets. Went straight to the trail. Easy downhill walk takes you to the main formation. Can go on from there if you want which I recommend. You can get away from the crowd and see some awesome stuff up the cliff a ways and its not a difficult walk. Recommend good sturdy hiking boots especially if you are going out on the rocks which are very slippery and uneven. Once done just have to hike back up the hill. There is a bus that goes down and back but we didnt look into pricing and was overcrowded the day we went.
Take a raincoat and waterproof shoes. It is very wet. Its high chance of rain.If you park outside from the visitors center (it costs £10 per car you will not be able to come in to buy souvenirs or use toilets. So better to buy a ticket for £13 per adult and £6.5 for a child.
One of the natural wonders of the world with a mythology to go with it. Its a must see, but be prepared for crowds even on quieter midweek mornings. Park at the National Trust visitor centre - theres a bus that takes you to and from the site but its a nice walk.
World wonder, and I visited it, finally. Thanks 🙏.It is a 100% natural phenomenon. Even somewhere in other places you are able to see something similar (ex-lava rock cracked in equal parts).Amazing place. Its a natural treasure, but there are no restricted areas. You can walk and climb wherever you want)For each weather you can find your own giants causeway picture.
It is amazing place to visit I think Ill definitely go again. I was not prepared when we visited, take some snacks, water and sandwiches, wear trainers and and prepare for long up and down walk. It is tiring but totally worth it.There is no gift shop, you can visit the place for free but there is no access to gift shop you have to buy a ticket for visitors centre which I believe is €12.99 not sure. Gift shop should be accessible to everyone.
Neat place! Wed recommend going on the red trail to start then working your way down to blue for an easier and more downhill climb if needed. Very busy location but still able to get a lot of great photos!
Outstanding place far more to see than you expect, well worth getting the audio guided tour.Brilliant if youre already a national trust member, free parking and entrance to the visitors centre.
This place was amazing to see! We went down to the Causeway THEN up to the cliffs above! Sooo cool to see from both ways. Don’t miss it if you have the time to do both. Would love to know how all these stones came to be!
Amazing experience, magical scenery. The trip can take from 40 mins to 2 days - if you want to do the full coastal hiking route. The trails are free and open 24 hrs, the visitor center has an entrance fee.Parking: at the visitor center its paid per person (£12), there are other parking lots in walking distance (£9-10/car/day), but if you want free parking you can park in Bushmills and take the bus, or park for free at the Bushmills railway platform (from there you can take the historical railway - £7/adult/round-trip - or walk to the Giants). We used the free parking lot above the beach in Portballintrae and walked along the coastal line. The long route along the beach is about 4 km, but the shorter route is about 2.5 km, which is a shortcut along the train line.If you want to skip going uphill on the stairs, take the red line from the visitor center towards the giants and take the blue one on your way back. This is a really easy way and you get to see the shore from above and from the shore level too. The blue route is accessible for disabled ppl too - theres an option to be brought there by car from the center. The red route at one point is permanently closed since 94.Dress up in layers, wear comfortable shoes and be aware that its almost always very windy. The last toilet is by the visitor center.Definitely recommend this sight for everyone :enjoy!
Indescribable beauty surrounds you at Giants Causeway and the hike down to it is breathtaking. Powerfully grand views and incredible natural volcanic rock formations abound. There is an optional bus you can use to go to and from the visitors center for a small fee.
National Trust..... But.Book in advance.!Large carpark.Excellent, helpful staff.Great presentation in the Experience "building. The reality is stunning.Wear your walking boots, but take the bus down to the beginning. After, enjoy the cafe restaurant .
This place is stunning and the story/legend behind the causeway is quite cool. The walk down to the causeway is approximately half a mile and it opens up into such beautiful scenery mountainous and ocean scenery. The rocks are very cool and everywhere you look is just beautiful. Careful on the rocks because they can become quite slippery when wet. Definitely check this out!
One of the most extraordinary places I’ve been so far. We’ve been there on a day trip from Dublin including Belfast and this treasure here. The rocks are unique and the scenery you get from the round trip up on the cliffs is worth the walk 👍🏼
You have to visit here if you are visiting Northern IrelandIts amazing what nature can do.Actually enjoyed going along the headland towards the next bay, there where some fascinating rock formations and great views back to the Causeway
Let me start by saying it is really very nice. The scene is beautiful and the rocks are very interesting. However it was very busy, it is nigh on impossible to get a great picture without a random group of American tourists entering the shot. Thankfully Samsung have added an object eraser to their picture editing software. Also the main car park charges a high price however does allow you access to the cafe and gift shop.
This is a part of our Day trip tour and our last stop. We stayed there close to 2 hours. The moment I layed eyes on these rock formation, it is just stunning. Mother nature at its best. That is why I love nature, they are just simply evolving and turn into a wonderful creation. I am totally awed. Getting there has multiple ways, we opted to walk and it took us around 15-20 minutes from the start point. We took a lot of photos along the way, cause the view, landscape is extraordinarily beautiful. You can also take a shuttle bus to and from for extra small amount.
I loved it! It was so pretty. I loved being able to climb us on the rocks and had a nice walk. Theres a giant path you can hike on, but we wernt able to do that sadly
First, park down the road (NE from the main entranceas it’s cheaper. It’s right behind a little artists collective. From here you can take the trail 2 ways from the parking lot (W or Nfound W leads to the main entrance, if you go North there is a little wooden step to get over the fence, hang a right and take your first left. This will bring you to the top of the stairs to walk down into giants causeway. It’s probably the best view of the whole place.
I was a bit confused on how to approach this as I wanted to avoid the rush and wasn’t sure where to park during off-peak times. We parked in the visitor centre car park around 8 pm in late May after it was closed along with about 10 other cars and had no issues. I then parked the next morning at 8 am in the hotel car park which is pretty much connected to the visitor centre and no issues there as well. If you are slightly nervous about that, there is an additional car park a few hundred yards down the road. When we went close to sunset, there were about 50 people there which was very manageable. When I went at 8 am the next morning, I had the entire place to myself which was absolutely incredible. The red trail hike down the cliff is amazing and you can then link up with the simple blue trail to head back and explore the rock formations. From the cliffs to the rock formations to the incredible views, it was an unbelievable experience. I have wanted to go for over 20 years and it lived up to my expectations x 10.
Truly a natural wonder of the world. The rocks mixed with the beautiful view is such a breathtaking expireince. I would recommend this place to all, in Ireland or not, come and have your breath taken away by the beauty of the worlds most majestic place, giants causeway.
A must see if you’re on the north coast. It’s a surprisingly big area to cover, if you just want to see the rocks you can walk down or take the shuttle bus. If you want a good hike I recommend taking the red route along the cliffs and then down to the rocks.
If you enjoy geology, and a good walk (especially if the weather is good), the Giants Causeway is worth the visit. After about a 10 minute walk down from the visitors centre, youll come to the masses of columnar structures that make this place so unique. Just be ready to walk back up, or pay £1 for a shuttle bus ride!
Wow. What an amazing, natural attraction. The rock formations are nothing like I have ever seen, they reminded me of honeycomb. There was also a lovely little, reasonably priced cafe called The Nook with delicious food and cakes. You can also get a range of hot drinks and alcoholic drinks if you fancy a beer. A must see!
Its a wonderful place of natural beauty, but the national trust really are sticking the arm in trapping tourists with a charge. Arrive after 5 and dont pay. At most if they want some money a small car charge, but at the extortionate rates they want per person Id rather no one gives them anything. Your time in the causeway will be around 90mins. Best for a great walk to walk up the coast from further away.
I could imagine this place being way to crowded in the summer, but if you go there in the off Season it’s very nice, and there are not as much people. Beautiful place, especially when the sun goes down and very cool how the stones formed this way. Also a nice place to visit if you’re a Harry Potter fan, because there’s a scene which was filmed here. Would recommend it if it’s not to crowded.
Beautiful natural structures on a rugged coastline in Northern Ireland. Had a guide walk down with us and he pointed out some interesting info, so would recommend getting one, ours was called Brian and his knowledge of the Causeway was superb. Was quite windy so layer up.
Beautiful place, maybe better to visit in the morning or during working days as there were tour buses always coming and a lot of people climbing the stones, so it is a bit harder to get a nice picture. Weather was fortunately very good so we also got a nice view. It is also nice to hike the hill a little and you get a beautiful view from the top 👌🏼
One of the best places Ive visited, for sure.As it was our first visit, we decided to stay at the National Trust Centre. The place is nice, but a bit pricey for what it offers. What I really recommend for this first experience is their audioguide (its included in the tickets)! It told me a lot about the history and pointed a few aspects of the landscape I wouldnt have noticed on my own.
Absolutely fantastic mystical place to go. Easy access to the sea front from the car park with some beautiful views, even on a damp soggy day.Parking was plentiful but I guess I went out of the usual time... not in holiday prime season.Recommend everyone to go at some point.
It is hard to find a parking spot, but then the walk and the scenery is worth it! Ive never seen anything like this. I could have stayed there for hours. I recommend going up the cliff to see it from up above.
Incredibly beautiful place. We charged with positive energy at max. We visited on Saturday at 16:00, the parking lot was closed. Unfortunately we couldnt get down to Giants Causeway because it was getting dark and raining...But we took an amazing walk up the high hill. We saw everything from above. Next time, up close.I recommend. The view from high at sunset is beautiful. 😍
Beautiful amazing place, views from the top are just above any scale, a bit windy but it is not a problem to walk around... It is quite important to booked the visit before than you can visit also internal parts of that areas. Nice hotel in vicinity, can be very good places to use as a start point and go all walkways. It was a bit cold now especialy with such strong wind, for sure we will come back there during summer time.
The 8th wonder. If you are in Northern Ireland, plan this destination as your first visit. This place gives us some positive vibes. And the way to this destination, please try to choose the country roots thats so beautiful and mind pleasant 😊. Do you guys know this place doesnt require any tickets . Tickets, which are around 13£/head. for the car park and the access for the guides and public facilities like toilets and souvenir shop. You can park your car beside the main entrance (200 metres approx from the main entrance )just for 5 £ and you can visit this place. It saves a lot of cash.
Its nice and different, but not too different from other rock formations that are common in Ireland. Still quite impressive and is nice to see they didnt surrounded everything with structures for the tourists. It remains fairly natural, which is nice. Hope it stays that way.
One of the most beautiful places and marvels of nature. Had been here during winter. Wondering if its so beautiful in winter how wonderful it would be during summers. Roughly about less than an hour and a half from Belfast city center. One can either take day tours from the city or drive down to the place. Marvelous rocky sea face with strange natural hexagonal rocks lined up one above the other. A heaven for the selfie seekers. One can even visit the Dark Hedges a beautiful natural tunnel created by the trees. A place which also happens to be a treat for photographers as well as GOT fans where some of the scenes were shot. A must visit.
Amazing UNESCO site... Be warned the walk down from the visitor center is fine, but for anyone who struggles the walk back up will need to be taken easy - unfortunately during covid the shuttle bus is not running. Saw a few people today not having an easy time of the walk back up the hill.
