Jerusalem, Jerusalem
This olive garden, now adjacent to a Franciscan church, figures prominently into Christian texts.
Very interesting and beautiful
Very interesting place to visit
It was difficult to see anything at this wonderful place, simply because it was so crowded. On a Saturday morning in October, we had thought perhaps the crowd would be less, but not so. The press of people made it difficult to see I actually never saw the church itself. The trees... They are lovely and obviously ancient. It is a painful thing that the iron gate, topped by a cross, is also guarded by razor wire.
Holy place for the catholic community. It is sacred place since Christ wept bitterly for the sins of the mankind before surrendering.
This place is much smaller than I expected and not particularly well cared for. I was unable to go into the garden as its fenced off.
Hundreds old olive trees and a beautiful church (Church of Nationsnear the orchard
One of the most iconic places on the spiritual tour for Catholic Christians is the place where Christ began His Passion. The olive trees in the garden are some of the oldest in Israel. The place where salvation began. To experience the Holy Mass in the Church where the stone that Christ suffered and sweat blood is heart wrenching.
The Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus and the apostles go to pray before being betrayed. A beautiful site, well maintained and very popular. Highly recommend a travel guide or tour group. Easy in easy out access otherwise the lines can be long.
For me as christian an unforgettable experience. A beautiful place for all that like meditation.
Very beautiful and moving. For Christians it is a significant must see place. We caught a taxi from Java Gate to top of Mount of Olives, enjoyed the view then walked down to Gethsemane and Church of All Nations. Walked down to the street and caught a taxi back to Java. Plan 2-3 hours. 🙂
One of the oldest churches in JerusalemPeople come from all over the world for visiting this historic church
Beautiful garden and church. Very spiritual place to visit. To imagine that Jesus Christ set foot on this place before his crucifixion is very humbling. Take the time to absorb the wonder and significance of this place. A must visit for Christians coming to Jerusalem.
Beautiful and moving to visit, particularly if you can get a semi-private viewing.
Beautiful catholic church from early 20th century with combined international mosaics contributions. It sits in top of earlier byzantine and crusader churches.
Gethsemane is a garden at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem where, according to the four Gospels of the New Testament, Jesus underwent the agony in the garden and was arrested before his crucifixion. It is a place of great resonance in Christianity. The source was wiki.According to the holy Bible It is a place where "his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground."Moreover this place has several olive groves, though not any from Jesuss time but quite old trees like 100 years.
Small garden runs by the monks, the biblical place of Jesus Christ last night. Olive trees have different length of leaving, its believed that the oldest one has about 2000 years, while in fact it is 800-1000. Monks are taking care of the trees, its required to be quiet and humble here, otherwise they will kick you out of the garden.
Very humbling experience! The view of old Jerusalem is breath-taking and the church is exquisite. Glory to God!
Historical and well maintained. Tho now squeezed bit due to pace.
Wonderful experience to be able to see those old years olive trees!
Well kept. Interesting place to visit and picture the events. Its a must to go to the olive mountain as well.
Es beautiful the place and the all nations church. You will know if it is normal to know the rock where Jesus cried.
Such a surreal experience to be able to visit the Garden of Gethsemane.
Make sure ur arms and legs are covered, so plan ahead. Beautiful, some ring for what it stands for. The olive tree is absolutely beautiful
such a pleaseure that ive have been visited this place
A short visit to this place is definitely a must. Walking around the outside of the garden allows for reflection. The church onsite was busy when we arrived but nice nonetheless.
Nice area commemorating where our Savior agonized and ultimately followed His Father’s will
This is the most holiest place in Israel. It was the place where Jesus spent most of his time for praying and here is the place where Jesus prayed just after the last supper and just before he caught by the romans for the crucifixion. and it was the place where His tears became blood when he was praying...amen
The perspective you get of the Garden and the Beautiful Gate really puts Jesus betrayal night into perspective. The Garden is beautiful and the love trees look absolutely ancient!
I wish we could go inside the garden and experience it more deeply
What is there to say...this place speaks for itself. Seeing this brings to life the Bible. I could envision Jesus with His disciples. From here you can see the gate Jesus walked through on his triumphal entry. Beautiful ancient trees, possibly here when Jesus was. Powerful place to visit.
Very Beautiful place to go to. Your soul will rejoice if you come here the ambiance was very good also. Must visit when youre here in Jerusalem
The Basilica of the Agony marks the place where Jesus prayed in the Garden of Olives before being betrayed by Judas.
Beautiful place. If youre here take some time to also see the tombs from above.
Gethsemane. Christs agony in the garden is a climax of sufferings when he took onto himself all the sins of humanity, past, present, and future.
It was a very positive spiritual experience, a must see if one is in Jerusalem
Beutiful garden with immortal olive trees and carobs. Historical holy place. Must see.
The garden is beautiful and peaceful. The church next to the garden has the rock where Jesus Christ cried before He got arrested. It is powerful.
Beautiful garden of olive trees, roses, lantana. The church is very somber.
The entrance to the church is through a garden with olive trees that are a thousand years old. It is believed that Jesus was arrested for crucifixion from this garden. The church is beautiful and a quiet place where you can sit for some time before heading to the mount of olives.
Such an amazing location. View of old Jerusalem and had some of the oldest Olive Trees in the world.
Such a powerful and important place to visit. The trees are the monuments... among a city of stones, this is where the land tells a story that is timeless.Lovely to visit, make sure you catch the “peace” tree.It can be absolutely crowded, but it is still worth the visit.
This is one of the most important places to visit if you are pilgrimaged Holy Land ! Difficult to explain in simple sentences greatest role of this garden during life and death of Jesus Christ! This place full of love and peace!
Gethsemane is at the base of the Mount of Olives, and we were dropped off at The Church of All Nations. This is the traditional location of the rock where Jesus prayed, “Not my will but Thine”. The interior is dimly lit by purple colored alabaster panels instead of the normal stained glass. It brings to mind both the evening’s darkness and the dread enveloping Jesus on that last night. The rock is framed and visitors and pilgrims can touch the rock. The crowds moved slowly past the rock as many knelt to touch it. The staff attending to the visitors had quite a time keeping people to a hushed tone. They have a lot of patience considering how many times they must quiet the crowds every day.Outside in the courtyard of the church are many very old olive trees. Some may be those contemporary to when Jesus and the Disciples were there before His arrest. At least the roots of one or more as trees were cut down by the Romans. It is a beautiful spot amidst the clusters of building comprising the Jerusalem area. From the Garden, one can look across the street and up the hill is the Eastern Gate of the Temple Mount which has thousands of graves lining the hillside. Of course, it can be difficult to see across through the multitude of tour buses engaged with the visitors of the Garden. As with most sites in the Holy Land, bring your patience. It is worth the wait.
Worth going when you’re in Jerusalem. I guess, if you’re religious, especially of Christian faith of course, this place will definitely please you as according to the gospels Jesus is believed to have prayed in agony and was arrested the night before his crucifixion.
Superbly kept and absolutely beautiful. The trees are the thickest and oldest olive trees around that Ive seen in Israel. The chapel nearby is also stunning.
This is a beautiful walk for everyone, of any religion. The walk is hard, very steep streets, which is perfect because the place isnt that crowded and its perfect for pictures
This place was wonderful, but didnt really allow for quiet reflection due to the street nearby. None the less, I feel a personal connection here that I will take forever (hint, it wasnt inside the church).
Incredible to see trees in this garden that were alive in the first century AD, during the time of Jesus of Nazareth. Across the street is the location thought to be where Stephen was martyred for his belief in Christ.
This is an amazing place, especially for Christians. You can admire the whole Jerusalem from here. The entrance to the garden is free of charge. There is also a big church near to the garden. You can up the Mount of Olives and admire even more the view. It is worth the walk!I definitely recommend going to this place if you are in Israel.
To experience the real agony of Jesus suffering, one has to walk through the garden of Gethsemane. The path took by Jesus. A beautiful archaeological site. The site where Jesus was agonized by the thought of him being betrayed by one of his own disciples and then captured by the Kings men to be tortured and crucified for our sins. One of the Holy sites in Jerusalem. The place is now clustered from all sides by modern developments.
