Cool venue with fossils, arrowheads & Apache artifacts, plus a windmill & old-time log cabin.
Great staff, mineral collection was great, pottery collection was awy
I absolutely loved this museum! So much to see! Their collection of arrowheads and pottery is phenomenal! Its a must see and I highly recommend stopping here.
Impressive collection of pottery, weapons, clothing etc of the apache people however, its kind of sad apache folks have to pay admission to enter and that the person working behind the counter is white.
I asked the staff how long it would take (we had to check out of the hotel in an hour). "...do you want the honest answer?" "sure" "2-3 days".After spending my hour there I have come to agree that to really read and understand this museum would take more than a day. I think I got ~10% of it. An exceptional value at <$10 entry.
Came here for the first time. Its small but definitely worth the visit. I love all the Indian pottery and the display of how a cabin would have looked years ago.
The gentleman at the door is very polite and has awesome stories
What an amazing curation of history! The cost was $5/person and we spent a good hour and a half wandering through the museum, and could have easily doubled that time with the amount of items to look at and stories to read through. For a small town the collection, largely pieced together and donated by the community, is very impressive.I also really enjoyed the gentlemen working at the front counter. His whole demeanor was such a great energy to experience and we enjoyed a nice conversation with him before we left.
Very interesting museum: I learned about Geronimo as a person and the history of indigenous people.
Very interesting and a tad bit creepy all at the same time. I liked it.
Take your time and enjoy the History. Very nice displays and enjoyed the beautiful florescent rock room.
This museum certainly does the legendary commanche warrior some justice and seems to have a little bit of everything from fossils found at the nearby lake to artifacts from the wild west used by cowboys and Indians some of which belonged to Geronimo himself there is even a cabin from the 1800s so much history here I definitely recommend stopping by
It doesnt look like much from the outside, but it is amazing!!!! It is HUUUUGE with so many cool things to check out! Definitely recommend going here!
Excellent museum! Very gracious hosts! And they had these little Sombreros!
Quite a wonderful exhibit, so much history to be honored in this remote corner of the state. Definitely a must-see if you visit T or C.
This is a great little museum! I was surprised by all the ancient Native American pottery. The pottery is dated 1000-1350 AD. They have huge cases filled with it. Theres also a log cabin and, of course, an area dedicated to how the town got its name. All well worth the very reasonable entrance fee.
Great experience. We have then going to T or C for many years and this is a first for us. Staff was very helpful explaining about the hot springs and the museum will require another visit to absorb it all
Small collection of western, geological, Indian stuff. $6/person a little steep for what you get, but we killed 30 minutes here before check-in time at our motel.
Such an amazing place. Tons of history for a small town. The Fiesta dresses were stunning.
What a neat place. Way bigger than it looks from the outside, and generally pretty fascinating. The old cabin is easy to miss from the back corner but well worth checking out.
We popped in and thought we’d breeze through this local museum. Ha ha. The history timeline of this area goes back more than 600 years - and they take a crack at covering it all! We went to the right as they had a local Native American speaking that morning. He had already started, but we sat down & listened to him speak about his experience growing up on the East Coast but also learning traditional Apache Ways from his father. His name was Harold and we found him delightful. When he finished, we continued to the right and there was SO much stuff to look at and read! I never made it through the right side of the building. Pat was wiser and moved through much quicker realizing you could never take it all in one visit. So I missed the entire left side. They had an excellent gift shop with books and local artists donating items as fund raisers. I bought a lovely handmade lapis rosary, a book signed by the author, & a beautiful barn wood frame with a loose interpretation of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Highly recommend the gift shop!! Volunteers man this museum. Harold helped check us out. I wanted to slip back and catch what I missed, but it did not work out. Great spot!
This museum was outstanding. It reminded me of my grade school and junior high field trip visits with some of the older displays but the content in those displays was top notch. I could’ve spent hours. Kids will enjoy it too and you can easily do it in only half an hour if kids are moving you along. You’ll enjoy the breadth and depth of the information on all of the cultures that have inhabited New Mexico.
This is a great museum that does an excellent job of documenting the history of this portion of New Mexico. I highly recommend a stop. History lovers can easily spend several hours here. The collection is impressive.
Great display of local history. Not only is there a section on the recent history of the town of Truth or Consequences, but there are many ‘old west’ and native artifacts. Beautiful paintings and models take you back in time. Admission is cheap.
Wonderful Museum ! Its Way Bigger than one would expect, looking at the outside of building. "Harold" greeted us as we entered. Great Guy ! Very knowledgeable - The right man for front of house.Thank You !
This is a must see if you are in the area. Amazing collection of artifacts. You wont be disappointed. Self guided tour. Plan to spend about an hour. Nice gift shop with reasonable prices items. Also has some local artists works for sale.
This is an excellent museum. It takes the visitor through time with informative and thoughtful displays. From prehistoric mammoth skulls to a collection of pottery and stone artifacts from the early tribes of humans from early Sierra County. There is a wide range of history presented. Coronado and Geronimo, Hot Springs and Truth or Consequences , this is a fun little place. Worth a stop.
This is more a museum for T or C, but there are displays of Native American pottery and artifacts. It is inexpensive and a good use of a couple of hours. Good display of how "Hot Springs, NM" became T or C!
My husband loves museums of any kind. This one has a good history of many things that have made Truth or Consequences more than a dot on the map. It was only $5 per person (were both over 60and we were there for over an hour! There is just room after room of history! The huge murals hanging on the wall are gorgeous!
Wonderful collection at this small local museum! We really enjoyed strolling thru and the artifacts they have on display here.
I went to see the Geronimo exhibit which was in the far back. The cowboy log cabin next to it looked interesting but was uncomfortably warm. When my friend asked regarding Magnolia Ellis, the famed 1930s healer, the attendant was standoffish as if bothered, stating she didnt know what I was "talking about" .Yet the museum sold literature on Magnolia Ellis a few years back. That is where I first learned of her. However, another shop owner in the area not only knew of her, but he regaled us with stories of her miraculous deeds which warmed our heart.Of note, the arrowhead collection is unique and the authentic pottery display is extensive. Kid friendly.
A Gold Nugget of a Museum! What a heritage we all have as Americans. Our Country was truly Forged through the Great personal Sacrifice of those who came before us. The pioneering spirit, and the backbreaking work of those who settled this land turned a desert into a blooming garden. Although a small Museum, it has just as much learning excitement as any other!! It is well worth the time you and your family deem investing. Enjoy!!
First time visiting this museum. I was very impressed by their amazing collection. They have so many historical items and information about the area. A must see if you like learning about local history.
Such a great little museum. Lots of interesting local history (especially their fiesta festivaland beautiful collections of pottery and arrowheads
Excellent collection of artifacts and preservation of history. You never know what to expect in a small town museum. This one is a winner. Kudos to the folks who decided to preserve so much of our past. Good job.
Always a pleasure. My sons really loved all of the exhibits and finding my hight school graduation pic.
Interesting museum with an amazing pottery collection.
This is absolutely a treasure trove! The history of the town of Truth or Consequences and also of surrounding towns is so interesting and well displayed. And there are many rooms of artifacts to behold. We spent 4 hours there. It is obvious that this museum has been a labor of love!
Tons of stuff to see. Doesnt look like much from the road but once inside.... It is a small town museum with a big citys display. The displays are from local families. Most are private collections on loan to the museum. There is a bit of stuff from all walks of life. One of the best arrowhead collections Ive seen.
Very nice museum. The gentlemen at the desk said most of of their collection is from within 30 miles of their location. That is amazing considering all the artifacts and collectibles they have. Very much worth the visit.
Nice little town museum. Entrance was $5. Lots of info on the town, how it came to be named after a TV show, how the shows MC and the stars of the show continued to visit T or C, and its history before and after the TV show. There is something for everyone from huge mastodon fossils to branding irons. You can spend two hours there if you read everything. I recommend the two narrated documentaries.
A hidden gem. Awesome staff; they were so helpful in providing information about the area. The museum was quite lovely and cozy. I learned a lot and saw a bunch of artifacts. I didnt expect to enjoy this museum as much, but it was one of my favorite museums. The gift shop also is not over priced as many are; all prices are very reasonable. Thank you Geronimo Museum for a lovely time.
Amazing place! I loved learning all the history about T or C. My husband and I spent about 3 and 1/2 hours reading every little thing and exploring each room. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Be sure to ask to watch the video they have on the history of how Hot Springs became Truth or Consequences. I also loved their gift shop; they have all kinds of little trinkets for sale! Great place to visit any day.
I rarely give 5 stars almost never, however a fabulous collection of pre-Columbian and historic Pottery quite possibly one of the largest. Lots of history of T of C and county a must see. Some great older saddles and much more.
Paying $6 to enter this museum is not bad at all. The Geronimo Springs Museum in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico is small but alluring. Inside the museum building are small rooms that showcase various interesting exhibits. There’s the Apache history room that has a life-size wax statue of Geronimo.Theres a room for stone tools, arrowheads, and pottery. There is a room about ranching. This is the most interesting room — an old Hardcastle Cabin, which was moved from the Black Range Mountains to this new location in the museum. This museum is one of the nicest small museums that is located in a small town.
For what started off as something supposedly small and uninteresting, it turned out to be quite a neat little adventure. It ended up being quite large as it encompassed four buildings in all, including an authentic log cabin complete with artifacts of that day. I would definitely recommend this place for a few hours of entertainment away from the hot sun.
Lots of unique history in here. Learned a lot about the town and helped to support a historical society. It is a non-profit organization, and they have really put together a nice museum for a rather modest entry.
Very good little museum depicting the history of the area. Many good items on display.
Plan on spending a minimum of two hours. Its much larger than it looks from the street! As far as accessibility, I use a walker. The transitions from room to room are not smooth, and parts of the displays are too close together. It is still possible to see everything. If you use a wheelchair you might want a companion to push you through parts. There is handicapped parking near the front door, and there are ramps. A very good display. Worth more than the $6 (with $1 discount for about anyoneadmission.
This was an unexpected stop, but it turned out to be the coolest museum I have ever seen!!! There was an endless maze of things to look at, mostly all having to do with the history of the area and the fascinating people that have lived there. It is an incredible museum that I highly recommend
A very large, lovingly compiled collection of all things wild, wild west and everything in between. History, geology, anthropology, biology, art, artifacts, and antiques. Prepare to spend at least two hours here. Friendly and helpful hosts. The arrowhead and pottery collection will blow you away!
