We would like to say a big thank you to the Italian waiter who served us on Sunday 13th November. We were a party of six with two children, and we came to yours to celebrate their birthday. The waiter ( sorry I cant remember his namewas super attentive and had the kitchen to write happy birthday on both cakes, making the children super happy. Thanks again for the warm hospitality. Booked table for lunch on friday.Busy as a convenient place for those wanting a sit down meal/Drink before their trains.Managed to get a table outside which is later on turned out to be a curse due to the lack of service.Ordered the sekt and it was only poured whenWe asked for top ups. Bottle was left on a counter behind us.Food- expected better!Average veal schnitzel which tasted on vegetable oil with too much batter than it stater to roll on the meat. and a rather stoggy potato salad that was neither warmNot cold? Perhaps it was room temperature.Underwhelming service with plates left on table for 30mins after the meal was over before clearing when asked for bill and drinks only served when asked for.Inside extremely busy and a large space.Certainly convenient for those travelling from Kx and StP.Won’t be returning.

Went here for an early dinner for a long overdue catch up with friends. Food and service were very good, with a good selection of veggie/vegan options alongside traditional meat-heavy German dishes. We stayed well beyond our table slot (a lot of nattering to catch up on!but never felt hurried or pressured to leave before we were ready. Ambience in the restaurant was grand and spacious. Ill happily return in future.

A very good German restaurant for all the German food lovers. Definitely recommend and will be coming back at some point. Mind that they have a 13.5% service charge compared to regular 12.5%. No big deal and definitely worth it but sneaky :)

Popped in for a quick spot of dinner before heading off to a show, and German Gymnasium really surprised me. The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly from start to finish, despite it being a very busy Thursday evening. There was barely any space but the front of house staff went out of their way to try to find a spot, and we got a table in the bar upstairs. The staff in the bar area were very attentive and made us feel very welcome. We had a few drinks (including one of the beer steins!and a selection of the bar snacks — the portions were just right and each dish was good, from the steak tartare to the cheese platter. The space is absolutely stunning, it apparently used to actually be a German gymnasium, and I love that the history of the building hasn’t been lost.I recommend going in for a drink if you are pushed for time before catching a train!

A stylish location for drinks, breakfast, lunch or diner. With outside terrace.A fantastic spacious establishment with some old artefacts of the gymnasium it used to be. Nice trendy atmosphere. With good staff and nice food.

Really nice place to visit. Was there for 5pm and not very busy. Would definitely recommend this place. The Rothaus Pilsner was delicious especially after walking around the city all day.

Great food, with delicious vegan options. Loved the vegan Redefine beef flank steak. The service was unbelievably slow, however, and getting any kind of service was incredibly hard work. Wine did not arrive, fries missing, and generally poor.

Third visit here. Won’t be coming back. Burger was awful, hard and the bacon on it too. Far too much burger sauce also.Worst though was the service. Nearly had to stand up and wave at the waiter. A nice manager came to help but it’s not the best as a lone traveller. When I refused later to pay the 13.5 % service charge and said poor service the new manager on duty wasn’t bothered.Clearly they have so many people coming in they aren’t bothered.

I just couldnt give it a 4* rating. Nothing was intrinsically wrong. The staff are polite and professional. The brasserie is massive, a ground floor and a mezzanine. The food was mostly good, although the pork knuckle was dry. Its just an expensive experience for what you get. £15 for a small flammkuchen (Flemish flat bread), £126 for two; the flammkuchen, 2 hearty mains, 2 beers and a cocktail. I guess thats why I ended up giving it 3*

Came here for a birthday celebration on a weekday at lunch time. The ambience and interior was great! It was busy and buzzing and had a very high occupancy rate by the time we leave. The wait time for service and food was not at all long and the staff is very knowledgable and personable. The food options are highly varied and the portion size is generous. We ordered the Butcher Plate for two people and it was very filling. In terms of food quality, it was okay and I really liked the potato dumplings. We also had a wheat beer.I added a note to my reservation, advising it was for a birthday and the team kindly offered a complimentary dessert for the birthday boy. It was a very sweet and memorable gesture. We would definitely return for drinks

I booked a table for me and my family (a table of 6). I was slightly unimpressed at the large cancellation fee of £25.00 per person but I went ahead as it was very unlikely we were going to cancel, and I was very excited to give this place a try.I could not fault the impressive restaurant, ambience and service were good BUT have to say the food was not great! My Chicken Schnitzel was tough, the green side salad was a bit mushy and my chips nothing special. Most disappointing was my husband’s (who is veggiemain meal of ‘redefined meat’. £36 for 3 slabs of Seitan with an overly sweet sauce and three limp asparagus next to it. He did not like the taste and neither did I. Out of our party three of us liked our meals and three didn’t. Sadly I won’t be going back.

Service started out ok, we ordered drinks and mains which didnt take a noticeable length of time, but there after it went downhill. Very basic things were missed here. For example, when you clear the plates would you like to see the desert menu being one of them. We waited and waited, I eventually asked and we were given the menu but then no one came to take our order before a rude man told us we needed to leave, we were past our allotted time frame. I totally understand the need for this, but surely when you have only served one course and one bottle of wine to 5 people in two hours, and we are all sat there with menus in front of us, something may have gone wrong? . After a bit of back and forth he walked away leaving us unaware if we needed to leave or not, they hadnt brought over the bill or anything..? The most bizarre thing about this experience is that we were prepared to spend a lot more money but the slow service meant that this wasnt an option. Making sure a table has enough to drink is surely a really basic point of service, no? We would have undoubtedly had another bottle of wine or even 2 more, but we had no idea what was going on or had the opportunity to ask, certainly nobody asked us. I managed to ask for some more water, 1 bottle between 5 doesnt stretch that far. I have never experienced being so desperate for some form of hydration in a restaurant, it was unbelievable. We had to leave quick so that we could go somewhere else and actually get served a drink sometime within the hour. Overall the food and ambience was good, but such poor service just leaves a nasty taste in your mouth.

Excellent Teutonic food & drink with cheerful efficient service! The Vienese schnitzel was great, whilst the usually boring broccoli & leaf salads were pepped up sliced almonds & horseradish sauce respectively. Plus the dark (dunkelbeer & German red wine were lovely. At over £50/head, it was a bit pricey but, given its location & quality, well worth it!

Since Ive landed in London, my friends have been big upping the Pork Knuckle here. Finally managed to go and wasnt disappointed. The Pork Knuckle is indeed to die for, literally. Id have died if I had it all by myself. Took about two of us to finish. Also had the Goulash Soup - so good! *chefs kiss*

Buzzing atmosphere in this easy to access location. Beautiful building with 2 floors or seating and reservations recommended. Lots of sausages on the menu and I recommend the currywurst and sauce. The triple fried chips are heavenly (dense yet soft). Reasonable selection of German beers and an extensive wine menu. Tables are close together so it can be noisy with chatter.

I was really looking forward to coming here, but I’m not sure what all the hype was about.Rude staff that clearly didn’t want to be there, even the 2 ladies sat next to me had an argument with the waitress as they didn’t want to pay the service charge. She couldn’t answer the questions I had regarding the menu and the dish I choose from the menu was disappointing - just 2 sausages and a pretzel for £13.50!!The decor was nice, and the atmosphere was good however, and the apple strudel and custard was tasty.Make sure you prebook in advance as there was a constant que of people.

Definitely one of the top places to eat close to Kings Cross station.Because we didn’t book a table, there was no room inside and instead we had a lovely brunch sitting outside. We were offered blankets as it was a bit chilly and the heater over our table wasn’t working. It is quite a busy and popular restaurant. The service was good although because it was quite busy it was difficult getting someone’s attention when we needed menus, had a question, or wanted to pay the bill (hence 4 stars instead of 5)I had ordered a starter and a breakfast dish but there was some confusion and I only got the starter, which was sufficient for brunch.Overall, the food was tasty and very well-presented.I will definitely return to try some of the other German dishes like sausages and schnitzel. On another note, there brunch smoothies were another level. Very delicious and wholesome.

Ridiculous for white asparagus quality / price and quantity this plate costs £27 with skinny asparagus i have ever seen my life. I expected thick and firm but it came skinny soft and wilting . If u want extra salmon then u pay for another £22. I wanted to give it back in the kitchen but i didnt want to make a scene with my colleagues. It was really disappointing. Does Brexit make the restaurant difficult to get good quality asparagus with the reasonable price? Shame…..

Visited on last Friday at 1.30pm. The place was really busy and we were a party of 7. The vibe is relaxed and its a lovely enviroment. a Huge vaulted ceiling so the temperature is just right. The service was attentive and the food was served promptly despite the busy time of the day. Dress code is definitely relaxed, I was wearing dark jeans and a smart jumper and didnt feel out of place. There were others dining in T-shirts through to a blazer and a shirt. Im guessing due to its proximity to the train station many travellers visit and so they are relaxed about your dress sense. The food (as you would expectis German based with sausage and Schnitzels etc. I went for the curried sausage and triple cooked chips. Presentation wasnt great (see imagebut then how can it be dressed up...? It could look better. The taste was okay, not great, chips - not triple cooked and not generous, the sausage, whilst it looked a fright was tasty. The Stein lagers were 2 pint sized and by very nature a bit overwhelming, unless you drink quickly, it does warm up, so go for a "normal" size. Would I go back, yes, would i recommend, yes!

Atmosphere inside the venue is lovely. A great buzz and a grand interior. Service was super efficient. The menu is simple and comes from the category ‘foods you have with beer’. I had the vegan kebab and I must say I was underwhelmed. Disappointingly, there was no flavour to it at all. Giving four stars as I have been here before and the food was much better.

Our Go-To restaurant while we stayed at the Standard hotel. It was a mere 5 minutes walk and never disappointed. The staff was also cordial and friendly and service was generally quick. Our first night, we came without a reservation and sat at the bar: we had fish and chips and the burrata salad. The fish and chips were generous portions, my husband couldn’t finish it.Our second time, we had a dinner reservation and we sat upstairs. We loved it as we could admire the beautiful historic building. This time we got the burger and the potato pasta (look for it under the meatless portion). Suffice to say, my husband didn’t get to try my potato pasta plate. It was that good. And for dessert we had cheesecake. Very fluffy texture, and really good. Our server was a very nice and friendly gentleman called Antonio, please ask for him. He’s great. Our last time here we got the breakfast. The GG breakfast isn’t much to brag about but the yogurt parfait was delicious!Lastly, good selection of German beers on draft and they also have a large wine list and many whiskeys to choose from.Would definitely come back and enjoy more of the food and the ambiance.

Very disappointing to be honest. Starters were average, really dont recommend the Atlantic Shrimp, totally bland. And the Schnitzel tasted very supermarket, frankly. Stodgy and a slab of bland meat. Absolutely nothing like the thin, light, airy, fluffy and mouth-watering schnitzel that youd get in Austria/expect for the price. Side dish never arrived. And potatoes in the Kartoffelsalat were just undercooked. Service was pleasant enough but slow. Wine extortionate. This place has its days numbers and will onlu survive based on railway passenger traffic. But its a blotch on Londons restaurant scene and has *really* gone downhill since my last visit.

The food was decent, however I did genuinely feel that we we’re judged. The server was extremely attentive to the table next to us. We said we would like to look at the dessert menus and it took 20 minutes until we decided to leave, no one asked if we wanted dessert. We asked a different server for the bill and she was really sweet and incredibly apologetic, if we’d had her it might have been a different experience. Really disappointing.

Beautiful venue, impeccable service and a great atmosphere with the music just right so you can have a conversation. You are not rushed through your meal and there are choices on the menu for all - meat, seafood, veggie & vegan (although not as many as the meat/ fish dishes). I had the seared salmon with kale, chopped tomatoes, dill and a mustard sesame sauce which was delicious! Would definitely make a repeat visit.

Authentic German cuisine and nice place to hang out with friend. My German bestie recommended me to try KX Currywurst (curry infused pork sausage , curries tomato sauce, chips, house sauce), Jager Schnitzel (served with veal and mushroom sauce), warm apple strudel with vanilla sauce. The food is amazing and this is the first time I tried German curried ketchup, which is very tasty.

Already want to go back! This has been on my list for a long time and I can say it was worth the wait!Herring and shrimp cocktail for starters. Both good wouldn’t say they were out of this world, but good. I really enjoyed the chicken schnitzel. For dessert I had the Mont Blanc tart which was not so rich, and so a very nice dessert. The Black Forest coupe was a really nice way to finish off the meal, the cherry sorbet was so refreshing.I have to say the service here is very good, the staff are very attentive and friendly!

The venue is beautiful, very spacious and the music is just at the right volume to add to the atmosphere while allowing to have a normal conversation. The service is excellent with quick, kind staff that will go the extra mile for their customers. The food is great but tend to be on the more expensive side with main courses around 20£-30£(with exception for the burger 14£).Overall, we had a great experience there.Minor feedback for the owner:Please consider providing meat cutting knives when ordering meat dishes instead of the current ones that are more suitable for spreading jam.

The ambiance was really nice, it was rather refreshing not to have loud music. The food was ok, the schnitzel was very hard and chewy but the rest was good. The service was rather disorganized, they waited to get our main order before bringing our drinks which felt a bit odd and inefficient. Otherwise the waiting staff was really friendly and nice. We didnt have enough time for dessert. Definitely make a reservation if you plan on going.

Love it here, food always amazing. Only downside on this visit was the service speed. They dont leave you with a water jug to top up yourself so if they dont see your water glass empty and refill it, you have to keep asking for a refill. I asked twice and it took an age to actually get the refill after asking for it. A recommendation I would make is ask for a table upstairs. Downstairs is super noisy and the tables are packed in quite tightly. Upstairs is much better.

Went in for dinner on my own. I asked the staff for recommendation for small dish for myself. I was recommended to order the sausage salad plus side chips. It’s their specialty on the menu. I’m a little disappointed that the salad didn’t really come with any vegetables but with cheese and pickled red onions. Although the sausage tasted good, the dish itself is quite a let down. Service was good and staffs are friendly. Probably need to go back and try other things on the menu in the future.

This was absolutely fantastic. The goulash was delicious, perfect texture and such nice presentation. The Käsekrainer, oh my goodness Id missed that food so much. The sauerkraut was on point, the truffle mash was superb. Neither myself or my fellow diner had tried Romanian wine before and it was great! The staff knew straight away what I meant when I asked for a Kir, and no issue with us sharing a black forest gateau for desert. Great service throughout, such a cool venue and atmosphere, all with a good location! Ill definitely be back.

Great atmosphere at this place with good background music and nice lighting. We were sat upstairs overlooking the middle area , the building itself is very cool. Food and drink and service all great. Good vegan/veggie choices too. Recommend vegan schnitzel and the Pilsner Steins. A must visit in London! Was £70/person for 2 of us for 3 courses, wine and beer which seemed decent value given the location/quality and service. Recommended for dates but a larger group party would also be a laugh.
