As soon as you walk into this place you can feel the history. Mark the owner, you can tell he loves this place and the history behind it. He took the time to hang out with us and explain the history and tell us all the stories that made this place so great. Cant wait to go back!! They will start serving food again very soon and I am excited about going there to see what they have!!

Its ok. Everything I had was ok nothing special. The French onion soup was ok. The burger was ok nothing special. But I will say that the service was good and the place was clean.

Stopped by for dinner. Very casual spot. Nicely decorated speakeasy/pub. The decor and ambiance were spot on. Mike the bartender was dressed in period attire and super knowledgeable about the history of the place and neighborhood. Music was great and not overbearing. Drinks were amazing and for vegetarians who eat cheese, they make one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever tasted. Menu seemed very reasonable. I recommend this place. Definitely try the Dill Pickle Soup - really delicious!!

A good addition to the Utica scene. An old school speakeasy, lots of items from pre-Prohibition. The drinks can be a bit pricey. Food is good. Bartenders know their stuff.

Just what we needed...sit down right away and quick service.. Food was excellent and the quality was great. I am a fussy potato salad person and I enjoyed mine. No grizzle on the Reuben or the Pastrami sandwiches we ordered. Great bargain and great service. We. will stop again. Got a bread pudding to go!

A great prohibition-era bar. Mike is a fantastic bartender. Theyre not open later than 11:30pm from what I gather, but a fantastic spot. If you go for dinner, get the pickle soup!

My husband and I were taking a day trip today and we Googled restaurants near us for lunch. Gerbers was on the list so we decided to give it a try. This turned out to be a great find. The atmosphere and the history of this old Speakeasy was great. Its not a large restaurant but the lunch menu and the bar had nice selections. The bartender/server was very friendly and outgoing. With a vodka/cranberry and a Guayabera Citra Pale Ale in hand, we shared a meatball app which was quite good. My husband had a beef au jus sandwich with mac salad. He said it was also VERY good and it had a ton of meat and NY cheddar cheese, served on a very fresh bun. I had a 1/2 lb Angus burger and potato salad. The burger was cooked perfectly, it was very juicy and again, the bun amazing. The burger could have been seasoned a bit more but generally it was a solid burger. Both salads were very good and obviously homemade/fresh (it just seemed a bit early in the season for me to be eating these salads).I would have loved to have seen more historical pics and info on display but they did have some. Otherwise they had what appeared to be a display of a local artists work, which was available for purchase. If were in the area again, this is definitely a place we would return to. Were giving 4 stars out of 5 only because the burger could have been seasoned a bit more. If 4.5 were available, that would have been a better rating.Heres to hoping the area around this establishment grows along with what the individuals are doing at Gerbers 1933 Tavern. 🍻

Great atmosphere and a story that goes with this bar. The owner was present on our visit and he was the most down to earth person to speak with and is very proud to tell the story of this vintage bar. Great selection of drinks at decent pricing. Highly suggest a visit. Thanks to Rich from Pacemaker steel for introducing us to this place and the owner.

Easily the best bread pudding Ive ever had! We would return just to have more of their house-recipe bread pudding and drinks. I agree with other reviews that the prices are a bit on the high side, but the portions are generous, the food is good, the service is great, and did I mention the bread pudding is exceptional?

With this place, you get an excellent and relaxing atmosphere as well as professional bar and culinary service. Its definitely a great place to go if youre looking to experience a piece of Utica history. Id say the prices are fair for the quality of what they offer, obviously a few things here and there could be adjusted a bit though. Just be mindful of how many top shelf things youll be ordering. I recommend the Tom Collins (beverageand their reuben sandwich!

service was great! ambiance was very nice! we all had burgers, mine was made special and they did not give me a hard time. Im used to long island prices and I thought the bill was extremely reasonable. the menu is limited... so expect to not have too many choices.. go for good soup, good drinks and a good sandwich. worth it!!

We went to Gerbers for lunch today March 20 2018 and I ate a Reuben sandwich with macaroon salad. My son had a burger, they dont have french fries and they did not have potato chips that comes with the burger. My Reuben was ok but did not have that wow factor. The burger was $15. and that was not anything special. I spent $29.15 for lunch that included 1 soda I left a $4.00 tip. It wasnt 20% but it wasnt the waiters fault, its the owners fault. He needs to adjust his prices this was way too much for what we ate. I would not ever go back there and spend that kind of money. Very little menu. I know your trying to stay with old time flare but you should also get with 2018. Not a good place to eat. If you want diarrhea go ahead and eat there. I had very bad diarrhea after eating there. They must not use proper handling of food.

Nice atmosphere but food leaves much to be desired. My burger...just ok (but for price? Not good). Friends ruben...he couldnt eat alot of it. Other friends grilled chicken looked good. Beer selection good enough. Sure wish food was better cuz I like the bar itself.

I searched this place on Google maps. It seemed interesting so I decided to check it out. I had 2 cocktails (both of which were very regular mules, no special preparationI ordered the new York strip special which came with mashed potatoes and broccoli (the steak was a bit tough and the soy marinade was quite heavyI also ordered a side salad and a piece of cheese cake. My bill came to $70 and change!?? The best part of the meal was the mashed potatoes and the side salad. The price is extremely high for the product you receive. The cocktails alone were $14 each which (being nothing specialis about twice as much as most other places. I may come back at some point to try a cheap sandwich for lunch, but definitely wont be paying outrageous prices for extra things.

Beautifully restored by the couple that owns the tavern, the main bartender must have come from central casting. He epitomizes the manners and character of the old fashioned publican. Most bartenders ignore their customers, it seems. This man led the countertop conversation. I paged an Uber who went to the wrong place. The owner himself took my phone to guide my driver to the door.

From Brooklyn. Came out here for a wedding. 5 hour drive and we stopped in dying of hunger. Great experience. Guy running the place is a throwback to real service. Bartender Armbands. Has a speakesy history. 5 hours and I had a burger there that would crush any burger in Brooklyn. A+ and Im not just saying that.

Gerbers is the ultimate for good food and great fun! The decore and atmosphere have been kept true to the original speakeasy, and are a much welcomed reprieve to the traditional "bar scene" that occupies the majority of the downtown area. Whether youre looking for a quiet dinner with fine spirits, or celebrating a birthday with 20 of your closest friends, Mark will make sure youre not disappointed. Go there tonight.

This authentic speakeasy is a one-of-a-kind stop in Utica. A diamond in the rough that has to be experienced first hand to be appreciated. Both the decor and food/drink menu send you back to a simpler time and effortlessly display the proud history of the surrounding area as times went by.Taking a bit of old and mixing it with a bit of new, Mark Mojave has restored a historic landmark in this area while taking a careful hands on approach to its success. This is the place to get a well made French 75, Old Fashioned and a well crafted Manhattan. Sit back and enjoy numerous craft beers on tap and well craft old school cocktails. Given that this is the ONLY craft cocktail bar in the area, I highly recommend you come try it for yourself.Others might try to copy, but no one will be able to replicate the authenticity and atmosphere that is Gerbers Tavern.
