75-77 Borough High St, London SE1 1NH, Wete
Authentic 17th-century coaching inn and pub with oak beams and large courtyard seating area.
Birthday lunch with my Son, great place to meet up between Suffolk and Brighton. Place is awesome, food likewise, see photo of pie + flat iron steak! Highly recommended.
I have been to The George many times over the years and really like it.Nice and cosy inside steeped in history. Or lovely and loud outside in the summer.Ive never had a bad time here that I can remember! 🤣
Super cool place. The roast chicken is delicious and onions rings are superb
Best fish n chips Ive had in London so far, and that includes Harrods foodhall location, Kerridges Fish and Chips. The atmosphere of George is great too, and the house ales are great.
A hidden historical gem, beautiful architecture spread over many floors with large outdoor covered courtyard. Relaxed atmosphere, dog friendly with own dog-themed ale and good selection of pub grub. Highly recommended for locals and tourists alike. Can get busy, but worth the wait.
Beautiful old pub with great service and the most amazing gammon egg and chips Ive ever had. Ive been dreaming about it ever since and drooling at the thought of it now. Cant wait to tuck into more again
Friendly and quirky. Nice fire. Very authentic. Good atmosphere!
Great place to grab a pint! Opened in 1676, it has so much character. We went on a rainy day so wasnt too busy but I can imagine crowds on nice days. Good selection of beer! Fantastic location! One of the best places near Borough Market.
Fairly standard Greene King fare. Nothing wrong with it, just could be a bit more inventive.Edit: Nothing wrong with the building, nothing wrong with the quality of the food or beer, it was just that the menu choice was a bit "old skool". Mind you I have seen a very similar menu in another Greene King pub, so I guess that matter could be out of your hands.
Friendly staff, fun atmosphere, beautiful if small rooms inside, lovely open air patio.
One of my favourite places to drink in London.Really charming and beautiful old building. Excellent for those late summer evenings in the extensive courtyard. Always seem to find my way back to hear when ever heading back to London Bridge Station.Todays visit was returning after a day at the cricket.Good beer, decent food all great value, will definitely recommend and return soonStaff friendly and attentive
This place is a little gem just off Borough High St. Really big venue for larger groups with a good selection of food and drinks on tap. Service was prompt and with a smile so definitely a place to keep in mind if youre in the area.
This is a London institution! This pub is the only galleried Inn in London that is left. In fact, there is just one third of the original inn that you can see due to 19th development of railway. A truly unique corner, with fascinating history. When you walk in, it is like stepping back in time. It is well looked after by National Trust and attracts both tourists and locals. On this occasions I visited just for some drinks with a couple of visitors from abroad. We were very well received. Ive been to this place a number of times and it never disappoints. If you are visiting for a meal at a busy time, it may be a good idea to book a table. The George is situated next to one of the exits from London Bridge tube station and opposite Borough Market, which makes it a great and popular location.
It’s a nice ‘hidden’ spot away from the busy streets where I can just sit, have a drink and enjoy the scenery.
Came here for dinner with the family and had a great experience! We went upstairs which had a nice private area for us to enjoy. Great English pub experience and the service was absolutely amazing! The food was sooo good! Would definitely come back!
Heard about The George from our London Free Walking Tour guide. Sounds like it is the oldest tavern in the London area. Lots of energy with a good beer & pub food selection! Will definitely stop in again!
First time at this venue. Beautiful space! Enjoyed the vibes, except for the bartender called “Luke”. Excuse my language but this person is total jack a$$. We don’t have to have a bad day, just because you might be having a bad day. Rude, snappy, and just had overall bad manners. I was in line for about 10 min, when he engaged in a rude exchange with a customer. If you hate your job, quit and do something else. People do not come to after work drinks for these kind of attitudes. A polite lady next to him “kels” was super sweet and attentive and knew how to interact with and serve customers, which seems to be a rare skill to expect at this venue.
Nice, genuine London pub in a surprisingly quite road with outdoors table and solid tap beers. A friend of ours recommended this around London Bridge area and it didnt disappoint. Quite a gem in the area. Recommended
Great pub and great location. So close to Bourough market
Wonderful courtyard and decent drinks but worst pub food I have tried. The steak sandwich bread was so bad I had to leave it and the steak was extremely overcooked and seemed reheated. Definitely worth going for drinks but don’t eat there!
Booked a table, online, for lunch on July 24th for The George. Had a confirmation email straight away after booking and a reminder email a few days ago. Got there today, the day I booked my table for, at the time I booked for. They had no record of my booking. Luckily the place wasn’t busy and a table was found outside for us. The food was lovely. Only complaint was two separate homeless people going from table to table asking for money, while we were eating.
A comfortable pub which hOpens to be one of the oldest in London. Great food and real ales, but expensive. There are many good pubs in the Borough Market area. Too many tourists.
We wanted to visit this historic pub during our break in London. It is a super stunning building and our plan was just to have a cold drink on a very hot day. Well, it was only just 11am and it had literally just opened. However, we were so taken by the friendly way we were welcomed, we decided to to have lunch early. My wife had a fish finger sandwich and I had a steak one. Both were delicious. We shared a bowl of gorgeous chips. The beer was very good too! Again, everyone we came into contact with were just so friendly and helpful.I would also like to mention that the building and the grounds are kept in lovely condition and looked resplendent with flowers. I would definitely return during a future visit to London. Thank to everyone we met, its a shame other establishments cant do the same hospitality. Well done!
I have had the odd drink here over years and its always expensive but today was unbelievable I bought 2 pints of Estrella and was charged £13.20 I said to the girl you must be joking she said they have put it up again.WARNING ⚠️ DO NOT DRINK IN THIS PUB THEY ARE GREEDY.We went to the next pub 2 streets away and bought the same 2 pints for £10
It was crowded when we came but they allowed us to sit on the reserved tables before the time. Food is amazing. We ordered fish and chips and the steak pie. Highly recommended! 10 stars for the service.
Good pies and fish and chips in an historic setting. The gallery outside on first floor is a lovely place to dine. A perfect lunch followed by really yummy deserts. The afternoon tea cheesecake very in unusual.
A discount code for the group I visited with means I was able to secure a top price seat in the stalls to see Jitney at very low cost. Please be aware of irregular racking in the stalls so do check reviews on seat plan review sites first.I sat in a comfortable seat, without anyone in front so the view was clear with ample leg room.We gathered for a post show talk in the basement bar which has been refurbished to a high standard.Staff are warm and efficient.
The perfect pub with a lot of space, alcohol selection, and food. Plus the scenery (both inside and outcreates a great environment for all parties!
The George team were fantastic - we hired a room for a wedding party on a Saturday night - Tom and the whole team were brilliant, letting us get set up in advance, “DJ Sven” and his amazing music, and just great service all round. Thank you so much!
Cool pub, hit it at opening for a pint before our walk, looks like it could hold a lot of people with the large courtyard outside. Good selection of beer on tap.
This is one of my favorite pubs in London: historic, vibrant, great food, and excellent beer! Family friendly, too. Id suggest reserving a table upstairs via their online reservation system. Love it...
Clearly industrial and unhealthy food. My pie was uncooked and tasted horrible. My friend’s got an over cooked cantine-like piece of unidentified meat with dry industrial Yorkshire pudding as a Sunday roast. We got sick the whole nightThis place is a real tourist trap, avoid
Dont let the unsupposing view from the street fool you; opens into a cracking beer garden - real sun trap - and the interior is fantastic. Staff are on point and product is well kept.Kinda happy Im moving in next door!
Lovely pub! very busy when we visited, I dont know how you guys manage it! Service was surprisingly fast considering the amount of people sitting outside, staff I encountered were patient, friendly, and helpful. Made for a great night out, thank you!!
Good meat pies and cask ales. What more does one need? Outdoor seating on a beautiful day. Prime.
We hired a room for a Sunday lunch time. Good food, well looked after. Lively pub with courtyard views from balcony. Recommended.
The George Inn is a great English pub for history lovers and those in search of a fun pub experience. It is clearly an after work favorite of locals. We sat upstairs - which was more quiet than the party in the courtyard - for some lovely fish and chips and mushroom pie. Our waiter, Dean, completed the experience with his cheekiness and good care. Highly recommend! We will be coming back.
Went here with a group from a conference and it was a very good experience. It was a big group ~30 people and we had a room just for us, where they would deliver very tasty food. The toilets are big and clean with several booths. We had a tab open that eased the way we got beers. Some of the food was really tasty, like the nachos ❤️
A fine pub. Beautiful. Such a grand old house with the Shard looming over it is incredible and really adds to the atmosphere. The interior is like going back in time. The barman was impressively efficient given how busy it was! I love the general vibe and the live music out in the garden.
Come rain or shine, The George is a fine pub. Theres lots of outdoor space when the weather is good, and when its not there is plenty of space to sit inside, as there are 3 floors of seating. The beer selection is good, and the bar staff attentive.
Historic pub across from Borough Market. Decent collection of ales and reasonable prices for London
Fantastic pub steeped in history, its like going back in time! Great selection of ales too
Nana was an absolute hero - there was a woman at the table next to us having a rough time and he handled like the pro he clearly is. What a great guy. 10/10. Absolute credit to the place. Cant reccomend more.
This is pub is one of national trust property. A listed building. It’s a part Greene King pub chain. Food and drinks are good. Reasonable priced for the location. We had Sunday roast here. The Yorkshire pudding was great. You can get 20% off of food if you have a Bluelight card. - working NHS, fire service or police. Nearest station is London Bridge. No parking available on site.
This historic pub is the only remaining galleried coaching inn in London and is a ‘must visit’ for both Londoners and tourists. The entrance to the large courtyard is through a metal arch off Borough High Street, offering plenty of outdoor seating for fair weather drinking.Although parts of the original buildings were demolished by the London and North Eastern Railway, they thankfully sold the remainder to the National Trust in 1937, who now lease it to Greene King. The only downside is that a lot of the surrounding area has not faired so well and some of the views are a little ugly. Nevertheless a minor complaint, and certainly nothing that Greene King or anyone else can do much about!
Wonderful big fish and chips and very good draft beer. The meal was bountiful and the beer was very good. Highly recommend it
Decent boozer, handy location. Packed on a Friday night, but bar service was quick and efficient and table service polite and attentive.
Great pub. Its actually the only surviving galleried London coaching Inn. Original interiors and amazing atmosphere makes you want to just stay in, drink and eat. Food was fantastic. I recommend fried chicken burger. You can also spot original gas lanterns that not many are left in London. Well done for owners for keeping this little pearl of geart London history in such a good shape.
When there are festive events going on in London Bridge area or Borough Market, we always seem to finally end up at the George pub. It has a large court yard from which you can see The Shard and they do have outside heaters . The place is big with many sections. Theres all a fire place at the front end.. 2 sets of toilets..one at far back and one at the front in a separate building. Staff are friendly.. bar gets busy but you get served quick. Anything from full meals or just coffee and chips.
We had the sunday roast meals. Food came really fast, in good proportion and was quite delicious. Staff was also very friendly too. The only downside is that you must download their app for ordering which took forever to download and get it set up. The app was badly designed, slow and not working properly occasionally.
