I was skeptic and worried, but alas; The staff were helpful and friendly, the facilities clean (credit to the cleaner, he was working every day so I bought him a coke, cheers man!), the guests were friendly and my room mates were quiet and we respected each other. My next stay will be here again.I checkout later today (Saturday), until next time,Thanks

Really nice hostel, 2nd time there.Prices are correct and the venue is really nice. The only itch is that the room were i was was next to the smoking area, where people was going there till late night (talking really loud)..so was difficult to sleep well.Other than that i loved my stay! The bar area is really nice :)

First time I’ve been to a Generator and was very pleased. This branch has all the basics to fulfil your needs plus a lot of extras. But talking about what really matters in the reviews: the price was around 50% cheaper than other hostels at the same level; the room (private 4 people roomwas clean and well equipped (chargers at every bed, individual drawers, sinkeven though it was “small” but enough to accommodate a family; the shared bathrooms were clean but I had a feeling that was not enough if there is a big attendance and some equipments could have a better maintenance (for ex.: shower with lose scrolling, toilets with doors not closing fully, weak hand dryer); internet connection was stable and just enough; the location is super with just a 5 minutes walk to Russel Square station from which you can go anywhere; the staff was always very friendly and helpful. The extras I’ve mentioned includes a small mini shop for your convenience, a bar (open till 3am!), a restaurant, rent towels, flip flops for selling and all that you don’t remember you need but when you are there makes all the difference.

A really lovely place to stay for a trip.Breakfast was good, the staff, really kind. But the problem is the tiny shared room, they are smaller than YHA, I wasnt able to draw or just to seat somewhere in this tiny room. The corridors are not smelling good and its not easy to take a shower.Otherwise the ground floor is a good place for chilling with friends.

Really great place for an affordable stay. We had a four bed room between the four of us and it worked out at about £65 each. Extremely basic but everything you need. Shared showers and toilets but everything was clean and functional. Few tips, bring your own towels and shower gel etc. The food looked good although we didnt eat there.

I thought this place was quite good value for money until we (due to a train strikehad to check out a day in advance - and were told that we couldn’t get our money back even if we cancelled the last night 36 hours in advance 😡. Really bad customer service experience!! I will choose another place for my next stay, and recommend others to do the same.

On one of the many broken bathroom doors someone meticulously and angrly scratched"This place sucks. I am in euro Hell"A little hyperbolic but the right sentiment. This place is terrible for solo travelers. This place is set up to be a massive hotel bar. Its loud and dirty and expensive. There are not good spaces to organically connect with strangers. Its run like a high volume business and feels impersonal.

One of your better options for exploring London while on a budget. Good location, its close to the tube so you can access any part of London from here. It provides your basic necessities, a bed, a shower, and a place to secure your belongings. In your bunk, you have a personal light and two USB ports. You have a personal locker under your bunk, but you either have to bring your own lock or buy one from the hostel. Plan ahead and bring a sleep mask and earbuds so your neighbors dont disturb you with lights and noise, otherwise they sell these things at the front desk. I liked the restaurant downstairs, the food was pretty good. The facilities are usually kept clean, Ive seen staff cleaning multiple times a day. However, some changes could be made that could make the stay a bit more comfortable. I wish there were curtains around the bunks to give you a bit more privacy. And in the shared shower, there is only one hook to hang all your belongings which all get a little wet because the stall is so small. A hanging basket would make all the difference. Overall, good value for your money.

Definitely a 1 star hotel as google describes. I’ve stayed at my fair share of hostels and this is probably one of my least favourite. For the price we really should’ve just booked a hotel room and would’ve been far better off.Shared washrooms - even for the private rooms. Showers are near the stairs. Women on one side and men on the other. It’s quite the distance if your room is at the other end of the hall and on the other side of the stairs. But really not the end of the world. We booked a private room. The floor was sticky when we arrived. We asked if housekeeping could clean it for us. It remained sticky after the second cleaning. We gave up and just used our shoes inside the entire time. You also make your bed when you arrive.Check in and check out was easy with the self-service options. Helped us avoid the long lines. Although check out is earlier than other places at 1000.Staff were mostly friendly with the odd person who may have been having a bad day. Large accommodation so very easy to make friends if you’re travelling solo.Location is good. But highly unlikely I’d stay here again.

Rooms were perfect. Very clean, decent space too. There are options of 10-6-4 bed or private. The staff isnt so happy to help sadly and while the price is decent for a stay 40-46£ I paid 5 for a cappuccino. I could have walked outside and bought Costa with half the money. Generally you will be pleased with the rooms and thats what matters. Wish the staff had more life in them

Do not book this hostel if you want to sleep for even 5 minutes.Because of the location and for budget reasons, I spontaneously booked this hostel. Unfortunately, I couldnt sleep for a minute. On the first night, my room was on the 5th floor and there was a party in the corridors all night. The doors cannot be closed quietly and every time you open/close them loudly, the light from the corridor falls directly onto the bed. On the second night I was put up in the basement. Here there was continuous loud shouting from drunks in the smoking area of the 24/7 bar, which was right next to the room window. You can also hear and feel the underground every few minutes. The staff did nothing when asked. In addition, there were some snorers in the room, but it was not the hostels fault. The rooms and bathrooms were mostly clean. It was still an absolute horror. And for that I need to pay 85 euros per night because of the short notice - in a 10-bed dormitory. On top of that, there were extra fees for luggage storage and there is no kitchen, so even allergy sufferers would be forced to buy food there (not possible in my case). Therefore: NEVER AGAIN!

Location was perfect as we were getting the eurostar from St Pancras on both occasions. The service wasnt great- queues at the check in desk both times and when we went to use the self check in tablets they were just as slow. Rooms were good though they varied in sizes dramatically over the 2 different nights we stayed. Shared facilities were OK, cant really complain when we needed a very cheap place to stay.

Simply go somwhere else...Bathrooms (Especially Showersare terrible. No room to store clothes and towel while showering so it all got wet. Booked hotel through third party booking company, at reception Generator charged us more for our stay because "the third party booking company doesnt have our price". Got charged an additional 15£ to what was advertised.

Great place to stay when you want a hostel. It gives you a chance to meet people you wouldnt ordinarily meet as a solo traveler. It is meant to be a short stay location at a lowered rate with dormitory feel.

Good place to sleep. But a bit irritating is the fact that they are open all night. The chance is very big that guests check in at 2 or 3 or 4 am, and leave at 5 or 6 am. So I saint got my good sleep to be honest....

The facilities were disappointing- a room for four people is so cramped and stuffy. There is barely enough room to walk in between the bunk beds. The breakfast that you have to pay for is poor and depressing to be honest. Slices of cheap ham and cheese. The few days a full breakfast was available the food was cold despite being kept under a ‘heat lamp.’ The staff are rude and dismissive. The security guards are hostile and patronising. Only good part was meeting people who were travelling etc in the social areas, and even then we were told to be quiet.

When you go to the generator, you know that your experience is going to be positive. The breakfast was not included but was quite good, and so was the kitchen. There was staff to help 27/7, not that you need them because everything is quite clear. It’s a good place to stay both if you want to party and if you want to chill and rest. The only negative point was that they sold many things that are free elsewhere such as soap.

I stayed at the generator for 5 days at the shared 4 bedroom room. The hostel itself is nice, people are the reception are pleasant and the bar downstairs is rather nice. The room itself was tiny (too small in my opinion for 4 guestsin it hasn’t been cleaned since the day I arrived… although it was kinda of clean. If you are looking for a cheap option to stay in London and doesn’t have a problem to share the room with other people it’s actually a good option for you.The location is central and st. Pancras central station Is just 10 min walk away.Would recommend the generator facility to my friends!

I’ve stayed at this hostel many times over the past 5 years and have some great memories here. Unfortunately the most recent stay will be my last as I’ve found there are much better hostels to stay at in London. The rooms are tiny and the basement level rooms get SO hot as there is hardly any ventilation. The location is perfect though.

My son stayed here. I booked using my credit card. Pre-authorization payment was taken. He was named as the guest on the booking. Despite this he was asked to pay with his card resulting in his card maxing and ruining his and his girlfriend‘s first evening. Tried to phone reception but after 4 minutes was connected to a voicemail that was full. Wrote an email 4 days ago - no response. Service zero.

So Ill start with the bad stuff, we wont during a heatwave and the rooms have terrible conserving issues. Given that London is cold most of the time however this is actually probably positive. Just be wary of coming when it is over 30° or 85f. That being said, the common ones are lovely, demographic is reasonably young which I feel like I dont get in other hotels, The service is wonderful, the bar is open until 3:00 a.m., the Wi-Fi is great.Note that it is a hostel, so youre renting a bed oftentimes in a room with other people. However you can speak to them about rooms with only two beds if youre traveling just with another person, you will effectively have a room to yourself. The bathrooms are stalls, and the showers are also stalls. The shower is give about as much privacy as a bathroom stall, and there somewhat small, but get the job done. For those of you who like a shower that has a detachable handheld hose type thing to get the nooks and crannies, they do not have that, which is sad.The building itself is fairly old, the elevator is a little rickety and very small, but that was never too much of a problem. The food is actually great, the drinks are a little overpriced. Also there is a table soccer or, as we can call it, foosball table, as well as a American pool, or billiards table. All in all Id say great environment, I was trying to decide between 4:00 and 5 stars, I learned it on five because its pretty cheap, which means value, and frankly I dont know what other hostels or hotels in the same price point would offer, but Im willing to bet theyre worse.

The place is a little hard to find as its located off the main road at travistock place. Arriving at night can be difficult to find the property as its not between 35 and 39 travistock place. The staff were very helpful and supportive as they allowed to keep the baggage beyond checkout time. The staff at check-in and checkout were very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the travellers entering and leaving the property are very unfriendly and have no courtesy to even say hi or hello. Good manners cost nothing. This however doesnt reflect anyway the hospitality of the hostel staff or the hostel. I stayed in a 4 room dorm and it was very small not sufficient to be able to store baggage of more than 2 bags. The windows unfortunately could not be opened completely so in summer months the room is quite warm. The dorm room was just ok for sleeping but not to spend the day inside. The bathrooms and showers on each floor were clean and well maintained. The lockers there is plenty of space to store your items and personal belongings buy the price for 24 hours is a little bit on the high side of 10£. A price of 7£ should have been ok for 24 hours. The staff have been very hospitable. The location is quite central in London within 10 mins walking distance to Russell Square tube station and there are also nearby shops and cafes to the hostel which are open till 10pm. The hostel reception has a 24 service which is excellent. There is ample space in the bar at the hostel to sit and relax and you can also order food. The bar girl was very nice as she refilled my water bottle with a friendly smile. There are also self serving machines on every floor of the staircase for snacks and drinks. Overall I would say average of 3 of 5 stars for this hostel.

Hostel amenities are quite good, the bar, breakfast, and location is nice. However, cleanliness was a big issue during our stay. The pillows and sheets were stained, bathrooms were constantly dirty, and no AC during the summer made the sleep hard to enjoy. This hostel feels like a cash grab. They don’t let you check in early so you pay for their overpriced lockers, everything from shampoos to water costs money. Even tap is not drinkable here

If you have female dorms why cant you have male ones? I was lucky to get an all male dorm on my visit by chance but Id be a lot more likely to book again if you offered male rooms. Its quite a big hostel with many dorms, you have the space for it! Men feel more comfortable in single gendered spaces too! Please consider this.

I got stranded in London after my flight got cancelled and I needed some place to shut my eye. I arrived after 1 am and the woman at the desk was extremely polite and helpful, she changed my reservation that was wrong/for another night (too tired to even make the right booking! And then again she changed my room as it wasnt a good fit for me. All with a smile on her face. I think these places are all about customer service, as the rest is what you pay for, and it is a completely different service and experience from going to any other place. So I would recommend it. The room was clean, the bathroom was clean. All for £30.

Sigh....Pros1. Great location. Sandwiched between Russell Square & Kings Cross St. Pancras stations. Quiet neighborhood. Restaurants cheap and available everywhere.2. Breakfast buffet is worth the £7.5 esp if like me, you pack some extras for brunch.3. Common areas are great & well ventilated.4. Toilets are clean & showers were great. If youre a Muslim or require water to clean up after using the toilet, come along with your plastic bottle.Cons1. Do not. I repeat do not (!!!!!!!!Visit this place during Warmer days. Youll cry sweat & no one would care. No ACs in the rooms.2. Spoke to reception about the heat & how I wasnt able to sleep. The response was cold!!!! I couldnt believe it.3. If you must stay, BUY YOUR OWN FAN (£18-£30to save your life. I did exactly that.

So, this hostel is super cool. Lots of cool theming. However, night one I spent extra to get a private room where the bathroom smelled like mold because of the shower. In fact the entire room had that moldy smell cause of the shower. The shower ended up not being able to shut off, so I had to get a staff member to help me turn it off. The public showers have hangers that are right in line with where the water would spray, so your stuff gets wet. Laundry machines are limited because some are broke. Staff members are cool. And the food is good!

The staff could be more empathy! My flight cancelled 2 hours before the departure. I request cancelation immediately hoping for free cancellation. Instead of help, they charge me immediately for 2 nights stay. I understand the rules, but couldnt we be a bit flexible ? they could sell the beds in seconds! not to mention the ridiculous price. Don’t bother if they give you any of the rooms 11-19 - directly underneath the “nightclub” and you’ll just have thumping non stop bass keeping you awake all night. No other beds to move to so the lady at reception just gave me a shrug and that’s it.Feels like they know this is an issue with these rooms but they keep renting them out?

Unfortunately very different than my experience in the Amsterdam Generator. I’d say this one is a lot older and has a less clean feel to it. The mattress is not as comfortable as I remembered it to be. Of course the elements of the brand stay true. Your roommates are all young and outgoing. The bar down stairs is fun and has table games to play. Bedsheets are fresh. But I’d say overall I am much less impressed by the quality of the hostel compared to its Amsterdam counterpart.

my class and i went on a class trip to london. we chose this hostel as a cheap option which is still quite central. the hostel first seemed clean and prestigious, but when we arrived at the rooms, we noticed many problems. first of all, the rooms aren’t were clean. there are stains on the walls and there is gum stuck beneath the beds. we also found a dirty, stained and wet towel in one bed. also, the rooms are very small. one of these small rooms has four beds in it and because there isn’t enough space the door can’t open completely. furthermore, there was mold in air conditioners, on walls and on some bedsheets. in another room there was water dripping from the sealing. we also noticed ants in one room. in total, i would definitely not recommend this hostel to anyone.but the food is alright

Friendly and welcoming receptionist. Staying overnight in a 12-bed mixed dorm. Air conditioning has kept the room cool despite the weather hitting the low 30’s today. Bedding was all provided. A few small stains on the mattress but nothing horrific or off putting, and not unsurprising given it’s a hostel for £20/night.I stayed on a Wednesday night. The bar had loud music playing above my room until 4am. Not ideal midweek. 😅A little noise from other guests but that is to be expected when sleeping in a hostel.Good location, about 10 minutes walk from Kings Cross St Pancras.

AC was not working, arrived with no towels given to us, beds were not made, washer and dryers do not work, the hallways are dirty and dark, and the rooms are crammed. The bathrooms are communal and very, VERY dirty. The showers are pushed all together and it is not a good living experience. Worse than any dorm room communal bathrooms. During my stay I’ve had one of the most stressful hostel experiences. The staff was not helpful with trying to help me get my room key (talking back). Overall, I would not come back.

My stay was OK in terms of the dorm rooms and facilities, however dont expect to get anything for free: prices were very expensive for absolutely everything and they charge you for everything too. 2 pounds to use the pool table, 6 pounds to use the lockers if you want to store your luggage away before checking in or after checking out which is absolutely absurd. Ive been to over 100 hostels over time and this is the first time Ive ever been charged for luggage storage while I wait to check in. Theyd charge you for the tap water if it wasnt illegal to do so in London.Seemed to be a lot of people checking in and checking out within 1 day so if youre travelling solo I dont think its a good vibe to meet many people.Overall a very soulless corporate atmosphere which feels far more like budget hotel with a bar than a youth hostel for travellers

Two stars, but I put one and half star actually only for location.Other things are not so good...I am very angry because I booked 8 people mixed room, but I get 10 people mixed room.I tried to speak with 3 different people in the reception but they said that I am wrong. Well, I can count till 10 and if you do not believe customer try to go with him to his room and check it.I also rent a towel and after that when staff cleaned room they took it, so I went to get another one, but you asked to pay for towel once again. I did not pay for towel, but it is quite annoying...Another disadvantage is that near some of beds are not sockets that is inconvenient. There is light installed above head but it is not working as well. Also I missed the curtains around bed to make it a personal space in the shared room.Another thing it is that I saw ants in the room. Also bedroom’s door is noisy and heavy when people closes the doors it makes a loud noise which maybe unpleasant if you’re tired and want to sleep. Showers could be a bit cleaner, but it is okay for such a big hostel!
