Palace Square, St Petersburg, Russia, 191186, Asino
General Staff Building - Historical landmark in Asino, Russia
Very impressive building, lovely combination of old and modern. Immaculate condition.
Its an exhibition hall for some Hermitage museum collections. Two story full of arts and n of need to wait for admission like in the main Hermitage building. French painters and some other exhibitions have moved here.
Great collection on display, esp Impressionism. A bit boring if you’re from St Petersburg and visit the museum quite often; would love to see some interactivity and interesting details that could make the main exhibit lively.
Amazing collection from impressionism to cubism, with the biggest names like Monet or Picasso
must see
Don’t recommend go to this place especially if your appearance is not Slavic. Staffing will be suspicious to you more than it needs. The place is not free from racism.
Unforgettable, fantastic, wonderful modern museum. Ill never forget the time I experienced it.
Not as busy as the main Hermitage complex. Still, reserve an entire afternoon in it to absorb Russian and world modern art in a very unique way (I recommend you go early afternoon after lunch and just leave during the early hours of the evening).
This is the place Viennas Albertina wants to be when it grows up.
Included in the price of the Hermitage ticket and in itself is amazing. They have paintings of all the famous artists - Monet, Matisse, Rodin, Malevich, Kandinsky- you name it, they’ll likely have a room dedicated to that artist. Building a lot more modern inside than the Hermitage and the focus is really in the art. Ranks up there with the Louvre, Uffizi etc.
Russian and world modern artpart of the Hermitage museumwell worth a visit700 RubFree on the 3rd Thursday of every month
The arch of the General Staff and the new wing are simply wonderfulThe Hermitage is a real pearl.it is worth going here definitely and more than once! I went 3 times for last year and I want more! getting into the new wing you pay for the entrance to one part of the Hermitage.but you don’t have enough time of the day to go through it.museum is very huge and amazing
Make sure you visit here to see it’s incredible Impressionist collection. Part of the Hermitage but in a different building.
Incredible collection of impressionists painters.
The 19th and 20th century section on the top floor is without a doubt, the best art I have ever seen. Mattises Dancing Nudes is perhaps the best art viewing experience I have ever had. I only got to see the top floor, but wow, that was something else!
The best museum in St. Petersburg. Branch of the Hermitage with impressionists, post-impressionists, some Russian artists and great temporary exhibitions. Better than the main Hermitage building in my view and a way less crowded. Is absolutely worth a visit.
Very vast & interesting museum! Highly recommended
Absolutely amazing! This museum hosts some of Degas work from "dancer series", as well as Vlaminck, Cross, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Picasso, Pissaro, and Kandinsky. I spent 2 days here and still needed more time. Such a great exhibition in just third floor of the museum. On first and second floor, you can enjoy contemporary art, statues, African sculptures, and modern Russian art. I would recommend the online ticket to pass the queueing.
Impressionists, impressionists, impressionists! The architecture of the museum is worth to be seen as well.
Stunning collection! Beautiful space!
The modern art collection of the Hermitage is located in the General Staff Building. The entrance is on the left side facing away from the Winter Palace. One of the greatest collection of the modern art of late 1800‘s to early 1900‘s. No long lines unlike the Winter Palace. You can actually buy tickets to Winter Palace at this Location as well, which is not well known.
The building of the General Staff is now a branch of the Hermitage. Here, all the impressionists, for example. Very nice room, perfect for a museum.
Modern, elegant, well designed. Excellent addition to the State Hermitage Museum.
Excellent!Modern and well organized. Exibition well worth the visit. Manageable crowds, unlike at the Hermitage. The best Hermitage-group book and gift shops.Dont visit before the Hermitage or youll dislike the big guy after touring the younger and fresher version :)
Now part of the extensive Heritage Museum Complex ( use same entry ticket), was created by Carlo Rossi in 1820-30s. There are three levels with many exhibitions on each, ranging from African Art to the works of many great artists ( Picasso, van Gogh, and French Impressionist and Post-Impressionists). Its a good opportunity to see such great works in an uncrowded setting, close up. The only "frustration" was the glass in the frames protecting the art, as it gives reflections of the lights. Downstairs is a bookshop and cafe.
The top reason for visiting Russia.
Gorgeous art museum. I love to be here for enjoying so many famous paints collection.
Straight up to the 4th floor, no ones queueing, perfect gallery for post impression fans. What a shame that Monets drawing gone for a temporary display in Moscow.
Great museum with modem interior and beautiful art from 19th century
If you love Impressionism Art, this is definitely the MOST AMAZING place you could find!Wow, i never saw such as large collection, with so many varieties. This is just outstanding and blew my mind. This aside, the building new modern architecture is just wonderful!Do yourself a big favor, come inside to get lost and appreciate art in all his forms and feelings.
Really love this part of the Hermitage! Contemporary art, modern art, temporary exhibitions and constant exposition are worth to see and stay there all the day. Cute cafe and long halls of ex estate building protect you from bed weather.
Nice collection from the time of the Tsars and also one of the larger collections of Rembrandt...
A calm place and one of the most western style Russian museums. Good location (if you didnt manage to get to the Winter palace building of the Hermitage somehow then this might be the place to go). Nice choice of modern art exhibitions.
You should pay a visit of 2/3 hours to this place after the hermitage museum. Even if it is a separare ticket, there are really interesting modern collections from Hermitage.
One of the most impressive historic buildings in the center of St. Petersburg, it was opened for public only a couple of years ago. Currently its Eastern wing holds the collection of modern art and Impressionists after its move from Hermitage. The building itself is also of an interest. During the years of Russian Empire, it hosted different state departments, e.g. the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and it is the place where what later became WW1 was officially declared.
Cozy even in winter. Good expositions.
The place is wonderful and atmospheric. We got lost a couple of times while searching for the right auditorium, but it was worth it. I recommend attending some of the open lectures on art and architecture, you wont regret it.
Gate is the entrance to the largest square of St. Peterburg. After passing through the gate in front of you is a magnificent Winter Palace. Everything was built to impress observers, and this has been absolutely successful. This is the most beautiful gate of the most famous square in St. Petersburg..
The real deal - best collection if you are looking to see art, not glitter and tourists ;-Great collection of impressionists and other turn of the last century art. Must go in St Petersburg. Start here and forget about the main Ermitage building.
The best collection of impressionist art I’ve ever seen, on their 4th floor. I could not believe my eyes. Room after room after room. All the best artists from Matisse to Van Gogh to Renoir etc etc and pieces I just could not believe. It’s a MUST visit if you like impressionist art.
Very easy to navigate this huge museum, its great to have an opportunity to look at masterpieces
After visiting Heritage museum we thought its all over but we came to this place..amazing piece of art .. you got a chance to see some of Picasso art over here.3 floors all well maintained few halls were empty and yet to but filled.
Very beautiful building and architecture. Its a museum from the inside, so you get to see some paintings of Van Gough and Picasso. The museum is big and 3 floors.
Neoclassic imperial celebration of victory over Napoleon
The day that I have been there I had the impression that ALL tourist were only at the hermitage! It was completely empty and we had the opportunity to enjoy all the beautiful art in peace and silent. If you bought the tickets of the hermitage online, the entrance of the Palace is included.
Slipped & slid on the icy cobblestones to view this majestic landmark and it was worth every unbalanced step every way.
One of the best collection of impressionists. On the third floor the residence of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the beginning of XIX century. On the ground floor is the shop with prints of museums pictures.
Really liked it! Here you can find the impressionist collection as well as the post impressionist one. The building is old but has been recently renovated inside.
Great architecture and renovations. Besides the art pieces, walk through the floors and room, it is a unique building
A welcome respite from the tour group hell across the square at the Winter Palace. Peaceful, airy, relaxing. Difficult to find the exhibitions which mostly seem to occupy the 3rd and 4th floors. Seems to be quite empty with a lot of rooms having no exhibits... I wonder if we were there in between shows or if this is the regular state.
