Long-standing spot for Chinese standards, including stir-fry & Sichuan dishes, plus tropical drinks.
Great ownership and good service and a spectacular value
Favorite Chinese restaurant. Super egg rolls. Great ambience.
Good food. The large portion can feed a small family.
I love this place! Great food, awesome service and atmosphere. I try to go once a week.
Service was good and good was delicious. Ample portions and almond cookies and fortune cookies. Always enough to enjoy and have a take home portion.
Great staff, great food. This was my 2nd time dinning in the restaurant, and it was great.
If bland Cantonese food is your thing, this is a great place to get it. If you prefer some flavor, keep driving.
We have eaten there for years, the best in the Fox Valley.
Absolutely delicious! This is the best and only place that we get Chinese food from. No one else compares!!
Food is delicious. Service is excellent! Atmosphere is comfortable.
We have been here many times. We were there last night for dinner, service was slow and many mistakes made. Finely our dinner came one dinner was cold and sent back. All the dinners were salty. Once ready to leave and have food wrapped up for home. Fast forward to next day. Guess what not even the dinners we had they were someone elses. Well we will not be returning to eat here anymore. Sorry but not sorry. The kicker is some other tables food was given to us. Not good!!! And this was one of our favorites.
Very nice restaurant plenty of parking and handicap accessible. Cloth tablecloths and cloth napkins make the atmosphere a little more upscale. The food is cooked made to order which means it is served hot and fresh. The servers are very attentive and you get exactly what you ordered. We had the youngest of the gentlemen serving and he could not have done a better job. They have a back room that can handle large parties. While we were there they had a baby shower with 50 people back there, however we wouldnt have known it based on how timely our food came out.
Still the best Chinese restaurant I have ever been to, great service and amazing food. The egg rolls are out of this world amazing. No matter where I go, Im always excited to come back here for lunch or dinner.
Decor is nice and wait staff was attentive, but a little overpriced.
After a couple of tries, I find the food just ok, but I am hopelessly obsessed with their home made chili sauce! Its outstanding and they sell it by the jar.
Quintessential chinese food. The green beans were crunchy and soft at the same time. The beef with chinese broccoli were gone before we were half way done with lunch. The various fried rice has that lovely wok hei even after reheating the leftovers the other day.You need lunch? Drop by ASAP.
The best fried rice Ive ever had sooo good very tasty
Been going here for years. Like any well established restaurant they have ups and downs but I always return. Recent dining-in experience (which is always the bestwas very good. Take-out orders also good. Their vegetables are fresh, they use just the right amount of spice if you like heat, and always listen to your spice level request. Service is excellent. Nothing to complain about. And their egg rolls are indeed the best around!
Been eating here over 50 years. Not kidding. Excellent Chinese food in humongous portions with top notch ingredients (shrimp the best. Jenny runs a tight ship and this is a great food!
My own family has been ordering from here for years and have never had any significant issues. The food is always delicious and the service is quick!
Great food and great prices. The Beef Chow Fun is outstanding.
My all time favorite Chinese Restaurant! You can never go wrong! Been a loyal customer for years.
My favorite Chinese food especially the beef fried rice. My favorite egg rolls. Nice staff. Fast prep.
would of given 5 stars but everyone understand they are OPEN AND HONEST they DO USE MSG you MUST ask for no MSG.. I had a reaction yesterday... the food was great , the atmosphere was elegant, and we really loved the service... GREAT PLACE but PLZZZZZZZ no MSGwent in a second time asked specifically no MSG and salt... me and wife both came home falling asleep and drank like 4-5 big glasses of water sadly i cannot recommend this place.. we will be sparing on when we go absolutely had MSG in it AGAIN!!!!!!
Good food large portions. Staff is very nice. A little pricy you should be able to get two meals out of it though.
Came here with my family, there was 11 of us to celebrate Easter! They are very accommodating and fast workers! We were seated immediately in the back of the restaurant in what seemed to be a party room! Was very nice and private! My family and I all enjoyed our food! Everything came out speedy quick, and was delicious. We will be returning!
My first time there. The food we ordered was delicious. Took a little while to get food but they were busy. Will try to get back there again, soon.
Where did this place come from? Where has it been all my life??? I LOVE Cantonese cuisine and I often wish I could transport myself back to 1970 when quality wasvthe pride of the restaurant and taste and portion size were beyond reproach.Best of the best ...a time capsule of classic Chinese cuisine. I have been all over the world it doesnt get better than this the chefs know what they are doing...world class grand huge venue.Recommended without hesitation. TEN STARS!!!
Chef special mai fun, great and delicious food.
Really disappointed in this place. Waiter Raymond needs to retire. Eating while waiting on us, not interested in serving etc. Food has gone downhill. We used to love the egg fu yung and the kung pao beef. Nothing seems fresh. Even the tea was not really hot. Prices were too high for the quality. We wont be going back.
Bad enough the older lady at front desk was completely unfriendly and seemed like shes bored with her job. Waited 20 minutes for wrong order. Was already home so I was stuck with "eh" sesame chicken when I paid for General Tso chicken. Ill never recommend this place or go back.
When we first entered the restaurant, the hostess was extremely rude, asked to see a menu we were ignored. When we were finally able to order she got extra crabby. Well we waited for our food then left and no utensils to eat no napkins and we ordered general Tahoe chicken and we got sesame chicken.
We have ordered food 5 to 6 times. Last 2 times we ordered beef fried rice. We ordered it with extra beef. There was barely any beef in the rice. We are Very disappointed. They have no problem charging us more. They need to put in the extra beef. Sorry to say this. But we will take our business somewhere else.
They forgot en entire entree of my meal and would not provide a refund the only option was to pick it up and I live a distance away and come here because I like their food. I asked if they could provide a small side for the inconvenience as Im using my gas and time to come back and they couldnt even do that. I will not be coming back. Edit: i got my replacement item and I ordered vegetarian and there was Chicken in it. I am disappointed considering I go out of my way to get the food from here because I usually like it. They did this time offer another item as a one-time courtesy but I really dont feel like it should have gotten to that point.
Awful experience. My daughter and I stopped for dinner last night. Before we ordered I asked if what I was ordering could be made gluten free (shrimp KowOur server assured me that it would be. I also ordered a second dish to take home that I was assured was made gluten free. It wasn’t. I became sick about 30 minutes after eating which is what happens if I eat gluten. It isn’t some fad diet some people get very sick and it lasts a few days. Also the additional dish I brought home that I was assured was gluten free was covered in breading. If you have a food allergy of any kind I don’t recommend going here.
Dropped by to get some lunch on Sunday. Shrimp Fried Rice was really good. The quantity was subtle. Receptionist was very polite and accommodating. Wasnt too crowded. Ample parking.
Wonderful ownership. Same cranky servers but they try and some of them are a little bit friendly now. Inconsistent help at the desk when you call and gruff dinner and treatment by some of the hostesses and the other ones are just really young girls. Food is consistently fine and except some burned egg rolls recently and very greasyexcept some burned egg rolls recently and very greasy. Good prices and dim sum is fun and lunch combo is great but usually much too salty for us. But we will always go.
Strong drinks a plus!Good authentic food.Super friendly staff
I am relatively new to this area, so when I hear so many good things about this establishment and it’s on my way to work, I thought I would give it a try! Service was iffy; there was a boy at the front door greeting those who were picking up orders. He came up to our car and smiled at us as we entered. He was great! The hostess inside seemed swamped with the phone and other guests, but she made an effort to seat us right away. There was another boy standing around her that looked like he didn’t want to be there; he made no eye contact with us. Once we were seated, one of the managers had to remind that same boy to serve us water. He underpoured for me and overpoured for my boyfriend. Our waiter was very friendly but did not check on us frequently. I had to grab silverware from another table! The food on the other hand turned out great!! Big portion sizes and very hot (temperature hot). The waiter boxed up our leftovers for us and even brought us two cookies for dessert. Overall, nice experience and I will definitely return!
AMAZING. The only word to describe this place. We went in on a whim driving past and ordered dinner for the entire family. Did not disappoint. Orange chicken, sesame chicken, Szechuan green beans, egg rolls, shrimp and pea pods, fried rice, and more. I would recommend it all, the egg rolls are large enough to be a meal in themselves. And the green beans are crunchy and delicious. If youre looking for good, authentic food, this is your place!
We have been going here for years and overall think its an excellent choice for Asian cuisine. The food has gone downhill a bit over recent years but still good. The service is outstanding, the owner is so kind and my go-to waiter Raymond is the best, the others can be hit or miss.Give this place a try, for the suburbs its one of the best!
This restaurant serves THE BEST food. Have held 4 large group events and have nothing short of outstanding personalized attention with emotional connection to understand ALL customer needs. Jenny is outstanding at knowing your needs and how to meet high expectation. Wonderful to work with. We are always looking for opportunities to hold large family gathering or just a couples date night. Beautiful large private dinning rooms with a dedicated service staff.
Gen Hoe is a locally owned American style Chinese restaurant. From what I’ve read it’s been under the same ownership for forty or fifty years. This is a big place with a dining room that’s always full. The wait staff is grown adults, not the kids you see in so many suburban restaurants. Service here is very good. Egg rolls are excellent so is the wonton soup. The entrees that we had, Mongolian Beef and some shrimp thing, are pretty good too. All in all Gen Hoe is A-OK.
So good... More of a formal feel than we expected, but best duck I have had - so much flavor! Will definitely be coming back
We went into Gen Hoe for dim sum on a sunday afternoon. After being seated. Mrs. Lee came by our table to give us the run down on the menu. We knew some of what we wanted and asked her to pick the rest. We were not disappointed with her selection. The food was awesome!
As soon you walk in, warm welcome right away from the staff. Place clean , staff are polite, courteous, I order to go .. waiting not too long even restaurant have people in dinning area. They have a bar as well. If you are looking for a quite, nice lunch, Lunch , Dinner and Banquet Faculity with good food and bar.. with a wonderful people works and will serve you a tasty warm food, Gen Hoe is the place . Open Tuesday , Wed. Thursday and Sunday from 11:30am - 9:00pm Friday and Saturday 11:30 am- 10:00pm. Monday Closed . Check it out!
Always a great place to eat. A little pricey but so worth it with the mountain of food they give you. I also love their appetizer tray with the mini fire grill in the middle so you can grill up your meat a bit more, so delicious!
Gen Hoe has always been my favorite Chinese restaurant. I love the shrimp chow me in Cantonese. The sweet and sour delight is delicious and be sure to get an egg roll, they are the best you will have!
We had passed Gen Hoe on the road several times, and I always wanted to give it a try in hopes that its interior would match the 70s exterior. The decor did not disappoint, nor did the food. While they have certainly updated the interior (the booths seemed brand new), there are plenty of Chinese/Asian touches that compliment the rather retro building. The food left nothing to be desired as portions were generous and flavors were robust. Another Google reviewer described the varied personalities of some of the waiters and described one of them as "surly." I think we got the surly waiter! While not rude by any means, he was direct and effective as he delivered the plates and platters to the table with a thud. It was quite entertaining. I might have thought differently had I not been given a heads up by the other users review, but my partner and I enjoyed our visit. Its a bit out of our way, but we certainly wouldnt be opposed to trying it again. Gen Hoe!
Absolutely delicious and Jenny Lee is very friendly and hospitable! Will definitely be coming back again!
