Opened in 1956, this 54-acre zoo offers a touch pool & animal feedings, plus elephant & camel rides.
Quite worth-it for 75k ticket price since the animals are healthy and fat, the cages are also clean, the direction is also clear so wont miss any animals. If you are tired, you can ride cart or boat, inclusive the ticket price. Just, the giraffes are dead the time I visited there. I did not see any zebra. The food court is close on Saturday, isnt it?
Truth be told, we were hesitant on going in the first place, due to some of the Google reviews. But after daring ourselves, for the sake of our son, we did not regret it one bit ๐The Zoo were clean and well kept, they really stepped up their game basically, after many reviews saying otherwise. Map & directions were also easy to read. Decent size of a Zoo too, nothing so huge that would take forever to cover, hated that on other Zoos. The variety of animals are good as well, wished they had Giraffes though, would be perfect total package ๐๐ปOther big plus would have to be the shuttle rides, they were clean, and we truly appreciate the acrylic partitions in between the seats, you know these days. Schedule of pickups are very frequent, so we could ride and enjoy the whole Zoo grounds over and over.To sum up, the overall experience were awesome and enjoyable ๐ช๐ผWould highly recommend new visitors to give it a try.Thank you Gembira Loka, for providing such an unforgettable experience for us and especially my son ๐๐ปPS: Giraffes addition in the future, perhaps ๐
children love to interact with many animals while getting to know the types of animals
This place not really crowded and suitable for family picnics, and for refreshing with friends
The zoo is big but its not friendly for wheelchair so if you are going here with wheel chair you need to consider it more. The animals are okay, big and clean. The food is standard and some of the places are not maintaining well.
Very clean zoo and huge one... different activities u can do inside zoo and it was great experience for one day out with kids๐
Famous zoo in Jogjakarta, located at Kebun Raya Street and not too far from city center. Huge parking area, many ticket conters. It cost 75K each on weekend and 60K on weekday, include free food for "Petting Zone" (petting zone is a small area filled with variative animals like donkey, chicken, duck, goat, sheep, turtle, rabbit, pig, pony horse, fish and ect. ), free ride with "Taring" (Taring is transportation to take visitors around zoo), and Perahu Catamaran (Perahu Catamaran is big boat, it can accommodate many people and travel around artificial lake.Ticket include free access to every kind of animal zone exept, Speed Boat, ATV, Fish Theraphy, Catch Pool, Paddle Boat, ect. Food and beverages available inside, doble price but not too expensive, specially near north exit (reasonable price). Recommended to bring food and drinks from outside if not too bothers.Enourmous zoo park, many animal to explore, acctualy looks like some location have been renovation and renewed since last time. At few location still under construction and remaking. Toilet spread at many locations, clean but creepy somehow. From exit area, before reaching parking area theres local store selling handy craft, local food, drinks, toys, souvenir, gift, ect.
What makes this zoo different is there are lots of petting area, kids love it so much.. some spots need better maintenance but overall its still great..
Fun for families, so many attractions and a lots of animals (well its zoo), friendly and helpful staff mostly. Overall I have a verynice experience there
Gembira Loka ZooThis review is written after I visit the zoo on June 25th, 2022The ticket was around Rp75k/p on weekend and visitors will get one free bus ride around the areaThere were so many kinds of animals, from mammals, reptiles, fishes, birds, etcFew animals are permitted to have contact with visitors / could be fed and petted by visitors. There were other attractions such as ATV (Rp25kand Speedboatsuitable place for a family visit and childrens playground
So much better than we expected. Not to say that some animals didnt have cages that felt too small and too simplistic, but I have been in zoos in far richer countries that did a far worse job. If youre a tourist in the city I would definitely recommend a visit. We particularly loved the option to feed turtles, but thats just a weakness of ours ๐ . Do be aware that they dont have komodo dragons (they still claim to have them in some outdated resources)
Very large area surrounded by trees and theres an artificial lake in the center part of the zoo. You will find many things to do here beside the petting zoo at the entrance. The tickets include free, unlimited ride on the zoos shuttle car & ferry.
A great experience close to animals and a beautiful park. The size of the park gives you a feeling to be nearly alone to enjoy animals proximity. Highly recommended ๐
Overall a fun and educational zoo. We loved our time there, parking was easy and a lot of accessible path for stroller or wheelchair. Restaurants and restrooms are also readily avaliable although the foods are rather expensive.
Huge.Required to walk, so please wear a comfortable clothes.Free unlimited ride of boat and ride along the zoo.Tickets are affordable.
Great place to spend time with friends and families.Theres a petting zoo where we can interact with some animals. Theres also a free zoo-shuttle and boat to take you around the zoo.Refreshments available kn every bus stops to make sure youre not dehydrated and hungry (even worse, hangry). There are bikes for rent available if you dont want to walk. But, its quite sad to see some of the animals skinny, like the tiger and the leopard. I think the tiger also dehydrated as it keeps sticking its tongue out.The staffs are so friendly and the tickets are affordable for students!P.s. please use sunblock and bring your hat/umbrella when visiting bc it is SO HOT lately and of course you dont want to get sunburn or rained suddenly, right? Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Because you are required to walk around the zoo (not all places can be reached by bike and shuttle)Overall, its 8.5/10 for me!Both visitor and staffs should keep the places more clean as i saw some trash around the zoo.
Had a good experience here. Instead of walking, we each rented a bike to explore around and oh my, what an experience that was! It was just so, so fun. Zoo was well taken care of, and for Indonesia, it was pretty great.
Zoo is always a place to remind us a human beings. Gembira loka zoo is a nice zoo with a lot of variant of animals
One of the best zoo-experience Ive ever had
Terakhir kesini tahun 2015, now GL Zoo is very different! Appreciate for the improvement, a lot of improvements.
The last time we went to GLzoo was during new year 2020.Now there are new zones such as petting zone where children can interact directly with tame animalsThere is taring zone, I think its a new cage for tiger. But the tiger just slept when we got there. There is new cycling zone for adults and also ATV for kids.Tickets now include boat rides (kapal katamaranand kereta keliling.GLzoo is a good place for entertaining and educationing animals in a real life for children. My kids always love to go there.
One of the most visit place in Jogja, lot if shades to help you enjoy walking arround, some animals look healthy but some cages look empty, hoping all of the animals healthy and happy. While I was there, there were no queue on the ticket boxFor better experiences avoid the visit on weekend and bring spare clothes, cause there are some attraction will get you wet
I personally found it awesoooome! Kiddos n wife really enjoyed their time here in GL. It gave us Jumanji vibes out there!!! Just cant remember how many times we have visited this zoo
Not a bad place to take younger kids on a weekend.Bring water and comfortable shoes. Theres plenty of walking. Come earlier to see them feed the animals.Parking: 4/5 plenty of official parking places... A lot more unofficial spaces.
Getting better and better, nice experience, still need improvement on the canteen
It really is a wonderful place to visit. 70% of the pathway inside the zoo is stroller friendly. Definitely need some work done, however, I was able to maneuver with no problem. It was a workout though. Please visit the zoo to support them when you come to Jogjakarta. They do a good job taking care of the animals. There are multiple trains that can take you around the zoo if you dont enjoy walking. Ticket was Rp75.000 (less than $6), the food was decently priced as well. My meal was about $1.50
Iconic family trip in Jogja. Gembira Loka Zoo is one perfect place to bring your family. Educate your kids to love animal and give respect to nature and thanks to God to give nature blessing Jogja and Indonesia. Bring family happiness to Gembira Loka Zoo and you will more happy after this holiday trip. Welcome to Jogja
Its is nice to see how they arrange and organize the shelters and animal, and how they keep the area clean, but theres one thing made me sad, that the tiger look stressed up, and really thin for a tiger.
Good place to bring your kids... good facilities
Nice place in jogja. Apart from animals great speed boat ride and train that goes around so not tired of walking
Good place for vacation. Only you ned more strength to walk around or you can use a train. The temperature is really hot, especially on sunny days.Overall okay for having fun with the family.
Great experience! Its clean! I came on weekday so theres less of people, Im really having a great time and enjoying it without beings rushed (this happens when you came on crowded place)
Very hot in the afternoon. I am glad that the animals stay healthy after these 2 yrs pandemic. However, I hope the place can be cleaner and provide more trashbin.I love the bike facility, it is helpful to save the energy in a hot day.
Good place to introduce small kids to animal world. Elephant is the favourite one. Train and ship are the additional attraction for kids
Children under 12 can only visit on Saturdays and Sundays from 6-10am. But its plenty of time to go around. Unfortunately some of the animals are still sleeping ๐ . Update: it is now open for children too
Vast collections and it gets better on presentation. Would be better if it has some more programs to attract visitors.
Such a great education and great memorable moment for us. Animal everywhere!
A good place to bring your childhood. This zoo is so vast & eco friendly woth many big trees around. The animals kept in here is vary, they have many area like "claw zone" Where they kept lion & other mammals with claw. Also they have a petting zoo, where you can feed the small animal. This zoo is so big so they have a small car like ride for you to hop in & rest while they drive you the next area. The staff are professional & nice, will come back here soon ๐ค
Good place to spend your time with your family.. free ride on bus and boat.. if you bring toddler ensure to brought stroller or baby carrier.. not too big for zoo but sure will drain your energy.. better if come at weekdays, not too crowded..
great place, have a lot of variation in animals, clean and fun!
Best place in town to introduces animal world for your children. There are many kind of animals available and well taken care. You can find many kind of birds, fishes, reptiles, mamals, etc. Also available speed boat riding for additional 25k. Entrance ticket currently IDR 75k each person, but still worth it. Development at several spots are on going.
If I come to Yogyakarta again, I will visit here. Various animals were displayed. I especially liked the reptile zone. In addition, fees for cruise ship and shuttle bus are included in the ticket.
Cool place ever for spend a quality time with larga familly
This Zoo is very interesting place to be visited especially for students because in here they could learn many kinds of animals.
A mini-forest with rules, animals in cages but much comfortable welcoming visitors smilefully. Kids can enjoy fullest in very little ticket. Try once and collect best photos for memory. Reptile and penguin sections were awesome.๐
One of kids favorite. They have many animals. They provide vehicles to help us around the zoo if you donโt want to walk.Last time I go there with my kids, I brought stroller. For people who wants to go there, better to choose weekdays, weekends will be soooo crowded ๐
Hello friends..today we visited the Gembiraloka ZooWe explore and get to know more closely with various types of animals.See the shape, color and hear the sound directlya lot of experiences we have today...a lot of fun today.. ๐๐๐
Good place to visit with group or family, has a large place with good view. This place is easy to find and has affordable entrance ticket price.
A perfect place for family bonding or just take a walk to get some fresh air. The best time to visit around 3 PM i suggest, because not too crowded. Maybe because renovation some animals were not there, but so far everythingโs good
So different since 2 years ago, its getting better and better. They will have some new animals collection and new area. Worth it to spend with family and friends.
