Gearing's Point - Tourist attraction in Hermanus, South Africa
25/10/2022 at 7:30 seen 7 whales. And probably a 1000 or more dolphins passing by very lucky!Had a great view All around!
Great place to see dolphins and the art works in hermanus
Beautiful and clean spot for appreciating nature and arts at its finest. Sometimes the wind can make the beautiful view a little chilly and restless but still a must stop. Even if you just stop for a waffle or an ice cream on the bay.
View is amazing however because of the road if you are coming from the opposite direction I would advise you to find a road to turn around
Wonderful scenery , lots of restaurants and Whales!
Lovely, can see the whales if you lucky.
Friendly staff great service. The food was really good, pricing was good also. Definitely would go back again
One of the best lookout spots in Hermanus. Especially during whale watching season when you can see whales up close and personal! Magnificent views of the ocean and coastline. Free parking and art sculptures as a bonus.
Perfect location to spot whales or look at sculptures whilst waiting for whales. Parking available in off season . Good luck during peak season
Beautiful viewpoint of the ocean. If youre lucky you might spot some whale from here in winter time! The views are amazing and theres a parking spot nearby. Its close to the centre of Hermanus and to the biodiversity walk (definitely do this!).However long you like to watch, you stay here. Theres plenty of benches to sit on and you can bring your own food if youd like to
Great lookout point for whales and 180⁰ views of the beautiful Walker bay.
Beautiful and peaceful site to sit and people watch at the beach and its pet friendly
Famous spot for whale watching
An Icon place to go visit with artists sculptures around the coastal path, and a beautiful view of the whole Walkerbay from Gansbaai to the new Harbour.
Beautiful place and Sculptures, you can see the waves crushing on the rocks and also whales and seals.
Beautiful sculptures with the bay as the backdrop. Stunning.
Great views. Praise God for His creation!!!!
Awesome view. Great atmosphere. Great for a day out or showing tourists our beautiful country. Nice art pieces to view.
We are truly blessed with natural beauty and magnificence in SA!Obviously visited out of whaling season so there were no sightings but captured beautiful pics in the gorgeous town of hermanus
Whale watching can only be done in certain months, we asked a local who mentioned between Jul-Nov is the best time to see whales. You may not find anything the other months of the year
Will be an absolute sin to put this down in words. Its too amazing for words. You have to experience this one for yourself. Greatness all around..
A beautiful spot to stop and take in the cool breezes of the ocean. There is a walking trail below viewing site for any avid walkers or those wanting to explore a little more
I think its one of the best spots to view the whales from.. we saw maybe 15 whales from the shore.. it was amazing
Gearings Point is at the old Harbour in the center of town, dotted with some sculptures and a beautiful walking path. Several restaurants and coffee shops conveniently situated for whale watching
Its a bit exposed, but on warm days, this is a wonderful place to relax or check out the ocean for the surprises in the water.Whales and seals can be observed from this point and there are lots of sea birds which make the adjacent islands their home. Some people will paddle in ocea kayaks to take in the scenery. There are plenty on art installations for the enjoyment of the public and even a solar clock exhibit. The parking is free and safe.
Beautiful, Clean, awesome sculptures. Nature at its best! The dassies seem to be very used to humans snapping away with the cameras
This is a spectacular place at the beachfront where sculptures and artistic ornaments are displayed for public enjoyment. There is ample parking space and lots to see. the see splashes up against the coastline showering the spectators with a faint misty seawater spray. There are klipdassies and seagulls vieing for crumbs and left overs abandoned by beach-goers .Al of this happens on the plaza.I highly recommend Hermanus and Gearings Point to tourists.
Great for whale watching,Dassies and fisherman in action. Art pieces as well
Nice stop when you are on a road trip. Various food places in course vicinity. Great photo opportunity. Dassies to see and wild birds also.
Beeeaaautiful, clean, lovely restaurants, I do recommend people to visit Gearings Point with the awesome view over the ocean...need I say more!!
What a nice place to be. We had a great time. We enjoyed every moment.
This area of Hermanus is equisite, it tells of a town that understands the benefit of tourism and do the necessary investments required. Well done!
Such a peaceful atmosphere and love the view! A great spot to just sit, think and enjoy ones surroundings.
Best start to my day with an early morning walk on Hermanus beach front around Gearings Point enjoying sunrise over the beautiful ocean. Along the way, interesting and thought provoking sculptures can be seen, each telling a story. For this time of the year, dress warmly and be prepared for some wind. If you lucky, you might also the whales during this time of the year 😊 Dassies are all over the crags too.
A scenic and tranquil drive to Hermanus. Got to see two adults and a baby whale. #Sievers Point & Gearings Point
I can see all the way to the south pole and the art exhibitions are splendid. Lots of good coffee shops and restaurants nearby. Sometimes the whales visit
Great views of the bay, ample parking close by, as well as restaurants and shops. Whats not to like. Right time of the year, the whales will make you smile from ear to ear. Be lucky.
Did not get to see the whales, but we did walk along cliff point. Beautiful place. Nice views, nice restaurants, nice marine pool.
Whale watching comes around once a year for me so:1. Camera out,2. Food packed and3. Lotsa patienceThe Point is packed with fellow whale watchers, everyone waiting for the perfect moment to snap a pic. Nice friendly environment and safe for kids.
A beautiful look out point to watch the majestic Southern Right whales that visit Hermanus to birth in South Africa, every year. Visitors to this place travel from all over the world to see these amazing creatures of the blue oceans. Well worth a visit in a lifetime!
Pretty neat little spot that you can just wall through. A museum was available for money. However if you know what youre looking at most of the stuff doesnt need little placards.
Stunning views... Photographers paradise... Surrounded by top of the range restaurants
Very well kept beautiful spot to relax and watch the ocean. Perfect spot for whale watching or taking a walk to appreciate the sculptures on display. A few great restaurants within walking distance and dassies roaming around
Gearings Point &, Hermanus Sea Front. After wine testing at Spier Farm, left for Hermanus. Road passes thorugh some very pretty farm country, Hermanus is a seaside town southeast of Cape Town,. Its known as a whale-watching destination. Generally people gather at Gearing Point.for whale watching. We did not see any whales . One did come up for a fraction of a secon and all of us missed seeing it. Mr Dave Beer not Only saw it but also took a photo. He could do it because Dave De Beer is a world renowned Whale lover and wild life photograper. Cover photo of his book "Hermanus Whales" is included in photos here.. Lucky to meet him.
beautiful place to see the views, take a walk or simply seat on a bench to relax and see the ocean. something interesting: you can appreciate lots of sculptures there.
You can watch many many many whales here. Make sure you have a good camera or binocular and patience. Just be careful if you want to walk down to the rocks. Try both morning and evening to see the sun rise and sunset, it’s very beautiful. There is lots of restaurants nearby, make sure to check out what they have before you seats down. Enjoy!
Great place to explore rocks and watch the sky transform from night to day. The water is absolutely magical
Fantastic view point of Walker Bay and the Hermanus area. Best sunrises and whale spotting imaginable. Plenty of parking.
Great place to watch the whales, stunning views of the mountains as well.
