Gateway Hotel in Port Moresby

Air condition was not working. No towels or bath mats or water when I arrived. Generally the service at Gateway has dropped well below standard. Management needs to look into these issues. Unimpressed to say the least. I will make mention of the housekeeping, business centre and reception staff who seem to be trying their best.

Disappointing customer service with VERY POOR etiquette towards paying customers and especially Coral Sea Privileges Members. Your marketing team has been very aggressive in selling these memberships but we every time we pull out a voucher or show our membership cards, the staff seem to be annoyed by it and choose the full paying customer over us. Your staff do not provide proper information upon enquiry of venue bookings and have inconvenienced us on several occasions- 2 hours waiting time for food, aircon issues in the rooms, unwashed sheets, and again, RUDE staff.

Very dirty and old.When entering, the reception first looks very impressive and you believe to check-in to luxury hotel. However, after walking the first meters in the hallway towards the rooms, you realize how dirty the carpets are. It turned out that in our assigned double room (we are two girlsa man was sleeping there already when we arrived. So we had to change rooms. Eventually the bed is very dirty, the blanked is not covered in sheets, the fridge, the Aircon and the bathroom are moldy. To connect to the wifi, it took us half an hour and many discussions at the reception. However, internet connection is stable and relatively fast for PNG standards. Service is friendly and solicitous but very confusing regarding the billing in the restaurant.The location is handy, 5min drive from the airport.

The PR was very bad. Room smelled of paint. No wifi. Even my access to my room was removed before time was up. Very bad. PR needs to be addressed here. Last time I’m coming here.

Several times I have stayed at Gateway for work transit and each time face the usual disappointments! I wonder if management or your PR team ever read these reviews?Aircon is hardly cool enough. Cockroaches roam freely, bathrooms hasnt been renovated since last century let alone cleaned thoroughly enough. Amenities are lacking half the time. This time I didnt have a spoon nor a glass. No tea bags (Not a hugecoffee fanNo shampoos or conditioners provided. If I had a choice, I wouldnt stay here and would not make recommendations to anyone to book here!

Great view and good customer service.

Food and Beverage service and quality could do with an overhaul. But not much worse than most eateries in POM.

Somehow this old business trip of mine crossed my mind. (March 2014 Visit)Uhm, this review may be biased due to the different culture that Im from.The workers are nice, helpful and friendly... but very slow(at least compared to where I come from). Food served at the cafe was nice.The room I had was decent but the toilet like did not work, took them ages before they came to fix it... I had to bath in darkness the first night.I think its easily booked up as it is near to the airport, due to the LNG workers so Ive heard back then. I hope this are looking up for the hotel these days. :)

The rooms are great. Standard rooms. The front desk team were very helpful. Unfortunately, my room was missing a towel when I booked in overnight and had to call room service twice, but still didnt get any towel. I also placed an order for a standard meal to the room but had to wait more than an hour to get my food.. Thats unacceptable. And the room service ladies need to be trained on how to talk to their customers. Very rude!

Gateway Hotel & Apartments is one of the nice and least affordable in pom.its environment is clean..they provide all foods and drinks menu.They have both outdoor and indoor seating and rooms for conference hosting and a small indoor gym. The area is protected and it is safe and good to go and enjoy with friends and families..

Hopeless pathetic service...I checked into one of the apartments after I booked on the coral sea website. The ended up mixing my booking for premiere twin share room instead of the a self contained apartment which I originally booked for. Then when they finally take me to the room...it has a really stained bath towels, no batteries for the aircon remotes, a room door that could not be bolted from within and Wi-Fi that could not work. when i tried ordering vegetables or fruits, I was told by room service they ran out of vegetables and fruits so could offer salads. They later bring 4 bottles of coca cola with my food when I never ordered coke. Their room service is pathetic. Im never going back to sleep at this hotel. You are better off checking in to Stanley Hotel or Holiday Inn Suits & Apartments.

Rats and cockroaches in room reported to several staff never come room service can wait upto 4 hrs then find out they didnt even place ur order so order again reception never answer phones power outages no air con sometimes between 5 too 10 times a day worse un hiegnic place stayed in my life if wasnt paid for buy work would be demanding refund

I go to hotel because of my grandchildren use the hotel pool.

I thought the room service was pretty good. No complaints from me, but aircon could be colder though.

The room service here is very disappointing and slow, I have been here since last night and have noticed this. I have been ordering for food, drinks, towels and even water and coffee supplies for the room but its taking them an hour to bring me my orders and ur receptionists dont know how to answer the phone. I called for more than 5 times and yet no answer. Very very poor customer service.

I love this place. But one thing is the WiFi is too slow. I hope next I have experience a better and faster WiFi.

Why I rated one star is because of the following:1. There customer service was very poor from the front desk officer to the waitress at the restaurant. They had no sense of serving or attending to customer queries. I guess they only attended to people who looked more decent than an average looking Papua New Guinean.2. The room that they put us in had no air con at all. We queried this with the front desk officer, they brought the maintenance guy but he couldnt do much...all he said was just give the air con some time and the room should get cold. Frustrating enough is when we couldnt be transferred to another room cause the hotel was fully booked. I mean why sell a room when the sales team know that the air con is not working properly or even let us know at the first place. So much for being awarded the best luxury hotel and apartment, really defeats that award purpose.3. The pool wasnt kept clean as it should be for every guest that goes to the hotel.

Good apartment, nice bar with great view and friendly staff.

We ordered club sandwich which was overpriced with very low quality. Its two times in a row that we have eaten here, with both times having low quality.We went again to the hotel, this time for Pizza (July 9and still it was terrible. We ordered a jumbo pizza, pepperoni, mushroom. There was no sauce, no mushroom on the pizza.If i could give zero stars, i would.

Overall this is a very nice hotel, however there were a few things that could be improved on. When me and my family went the aircon in our room was broken so we complained and got moved to another room where the aircon was still broken and the air duct was very dirty and so was the bathroom, and for almost 900 kina a night we expected so something better. We complained once more and got uprgraded to an apartment which was way better and we had no additional charges. The pool was very big and had a nice temperature and other than the whole mix up it is a nice place.

the rooms are nice and clean, the staff are extremely friendly and I cant complain about the restaurant. well the coffee almost gave me a heart attack :)

Ok hotel, convenient if you need to travel next day by flight. They have a Airport shuttle. Rooms are ok but old and worn out. Staff is friendly.

Apartment is cosy and comfortable. The balcony need to be mopped down daily, it looks like cleaning of rooms is done in a rush. No water bottle provided for guests, no tissue boxes provided and only one brand of coffee and tea provided. No hotel special toiletry provided daily like shampoo, lotion body wash etc. Guards at the apartment side carpark need to be taught proper customer service skills to win customs and not chase customers away. There must be someone at the poolside to mop water instead of leaving the place wet and slippery.

Staff at reception not friendly at all..stayed one night a nd returned 9 days later for another night....were unable to provide clean towels for a well needed shower..bathrooms not clean and No help with luggage...needs improvement. Luckily we moved to another Coral Seas Hotel which has been excellent in El a Beach

CUSTOMER SERVICE POOR.Noticed expitrates were given rooms straight away or room service was called. As for us locals,we had to wait for hours and hours. This is not the first time I had to wait.Rooms could use a little maintenance. Pool too.Sizzlers Restaurant is the BEST

Loved the new restaurant upgrade the Sizzler, good place to have a good barbeque steak and a glass of red, and the new look Pizza place, getting better every time. Customers services needs improvement as I waited almost two hours for my food even though the place was not full. Otherwise service was great.

Since Morning Till evening, at least 12 times you will listen from the staff, "I am Sorry or My Apologies".Poor Quality of Front Office staff & General Manager, Instead of solving the problems of Guests, he starts fighting.

Havent lodged there so Cant say much about the rooms and rates. However Jackson bar is a really good place to chill on Fridays and while Sizzlers endless salad bar and grilled steak gives a run for your money. The helpful staff also make a simple meal an experience.

Gateway Hotel is the best and the top hotel in png with comfortable apartments and rooms. Silent environment and located just next to Jackson InternatiolAirport Port Moresby.

Easy access to bus stop and the Airport. Travellers would love this place.Service is top notch.

The services where very convenient but it was breakfast that was disgusting because there was hair in the food...

Conveniently located near the airport. Clean, comfortable and spacious rooms. My grandchildren totally enjoyed the swimming pools.

Gateway is a very much comfortable and reliable place to be...Its environment looking so beautiful and naturally attract people....It located close to the papua New Guinea International airport which is Jackson international airport...

Enjoyed the Jumbo pizza and wedges. Cooked very well and very tasty. Though the staff were very busy, their service was very courteous and friendly. Will go back for more pizzas..

They have a very good pasta and salad lunch buffet, all you can eat for about $13 usd

well nothing is cheap in PNG... The people are nice when you have a conversation with them... but to get them to do stuffs... like service, its a little tricky...gotta talk nicely.... and patiently....Hotel is nice, Water pressure is good, TV is good, bed is good

Hotel was a standard 3 star hotel, rooms clean and comfortable. Bathrooms a little out dated. Restaurants were good. Basically what you would expect of a 3 star hotel. ok for a night before and after the Kokoda trek, or if you need to be close to the airport, however would not recommend several nights, little out of town and taxis arent always the safest. What has put a negative spin on this place is the fact that I need copies of my invoices from my stay for 3 nights. If you wish to get copies of your invoices from your stay, I would suggest take the time out check out and collect them all. 5 months on (checked out end of may), 5 emails of asking for a copy of our invoices and I am still yet to receive. extremely poor after service care. Spending 15+ years in the hospitality industry and using the various reservation systems, it isnt hard to re-print, scan and email copies of invoices.

Good hotel with good management.The nearest market is Six mile market but I am not sure they are selling what you want. Betel nuts or Taro? Definitely you need a car.

Convienient and closer to the airport..Free shuttle bus 24 hrs a day

Went to buy a takeaway jumbo Hawaiian pizza for lunch in a pair of thongs but was stopped abruptly by the security who removed me saying that I needed to wear sandals or shoes before I was allowed in.I didnt know that my regular pizza place became a nightclub with rules on footware. Anyways K60 was your loss and Eagle boys gain.PM
