Built in 1977, this well-known, antique-style clock is powered by steam & whistles to tell the time.
A novelty clock in a nice part of town that goes off every 15 minutes. The design of the clock interior is so exquisite and finely detailed. A must visit for all Vancouver visitors.
This really old and unique steam powered clock is one of the cooler free attractions in Vancouver. It goes off every hour and plays a little song (see video). Tons of people come to Gastown to check this out. Its pretty worth it, although try to get there a few minutes before so you can lock in a good view up close.
A landmark that attracts tourists. Its fun to see the clock work on top of the hour. Otherwise the surrounding area is heavily touristy and kind of boring.
Just a cool 5 min stop. Clock whistles every so often, theres a very simplistic ball thing going on.....but its a cool must see if in the area. Gorgeous at night.
Really cool to see, it is a fast stop it goes off every 15 minutes. Very touristy. We had some cocktails and food at the water street cafe! While watching it go off.
Wonderful place to visitEnjoy clock sounds every 15 minutes and every hourIt gives a great feeling when you enjoy with sound with visitors from all over the world. The clock seems to be part of everyones life and gives feeling that it is for all beyond cast and creed.Gives same smiling voices every timeMust visit the place and enjoy time around the Clock.
I love Gastown. It has changed a lot over the past few years and now it has lots of cute little stores and cafes and restaurants. You can easily spend a day here. Don’t forget to visit the famous Steam clock here. It is usually crowded but if you be patient you can get a great pic.
One of the must see attractions of Vancouver, unique but try and go for when the clock chimes, youll enjoy a musical treat 😉👍🇨🇦
Gas-town steam clock is must see thing in your list, walk on water street is also wonderful. You will see lots of different local restaurants you must experience Gas-town patio dine-in that some restaurants provide. Also have option of shopping, you can spend half a day here at gas-town. I’m attaching some pic of steam clock, if you like them hit that like button 😉
The steam clock itself is fun, also close to Waterfront Station and cruise wharf. But the neighborhood has no much to see and full of homeless people and smokers. Smell of pi.. everywhere.
I was taken here on a tour by Forbidden Vancouver and our host Sarah expertly led and gathered the group seconds before the clock tolled. If you are like me and dont like to leave anything to chance, book with this walking tour and get the most out of your Monday evening.
A nice city walk and the historical gas/steam clock built in 1977, this well-known, antique-style clock is powered by steam & whistles to tell the time. There are so many souvenir shops on the main street and good restaurants around. Canada palace is just 3 minutes walk with a beautiful sea view.
Gastown is a great place to visit and this is a very cool landmark to stop by. The clock whistles every quarter of an hour and every hour it whistles longer. I enjoy the view whenever I get a chance.Great attraction, fantastic and excellent photography opportunity. Classic brick buildings, beautiful trees, cool restaurants and bars. Definitely a fun street to be walking around.Must visit in Vancouver.
Beautiful steam clock. Visit at 12 noo. To get the best if the steam clock
Beautiful! We got there just in time for the 6 o’ clock and really enjoyed it. Very nice street to walk through too!!
one of iconic spot in Vancouver, You shouldnt miss to see the Steam clock, its mechanical work was amazing.
Gastown steam clock, very old and so amazing tower.... many people are coming from all over the world...
Steam clock is an interesting attraction to visit but even better is Gastown in general. One of a few truly walkable neighborhoods in Vancouver with little traffic and loads of people on the streets. Also, you find a vast amount of great cafes, restaurants, and bars in this area.
I imagine this is very underwhelming if you don’t stay for the steam show and chimes, so yeah. Stick around. We got to the clock about ten minutes before the top of the hour and basically just congregated on the sidewalk. It’s a beautiful street with lots of shops, and the clock really was gorgeous. Glad I made time to see it :)
This was my first time seeing a steam clock. This part of town is clean and lovely. The streets are lined with hanging baskets. No tickets are needed to see this attraction. An all day bus pass is $11 USD and will take you to it.
It is amazing the craftsmanship of this clock. Very popular and just stands there in the corner of the street. Well worth it to make a stop and read about ti and see how complicated but simple is the mechanism that operates the clock.
Very cool spot, goes every 15 mins and a bigger sound at the hour mark. Cool to see if you are around the area.
The Gastown Steam Clock is a very popular tourist attraction in Vancouver. Its a landmark and its pretty underwhelming. The clock is powered by steam and it plays a tune every hour. Theres a ton of shopping around this area.
Great to see an actual steam clock, even though its a touristy thing. Fun area for shopping and restaurants.
Iconic, spellbound.. especially the bell sound was amazing. Definitely a must visit in Vancouver.
Historical steam clock, I love it cause the steam clock rings every 15 mins, so you dont have to wait for long.
I had an amazing time seeing Gastown in Vancouver. I seemed to have come at the perfect time. With the sun setting setting and the street lights turning on, I was able to capture great pics of the infamous clock!
Landmark place in Downtown Vancouver with lot of tourist attractions. Westminster music is played using the steam pipes at the top every 15 minutes. Stay here for minimum 15 minutes to listen to that. Every hour there is a special noise which I did not have time to see. Amazing cozy surrounding in the heart of Gastown.
Gas town is a great place. Ladies with snakes ad well. Visit for shops and bars , beware of drifting into China Town which is a bit rough.
Sad to say but this is one of the main tourist attractions of Vancouver downtown. Yes it is free yes you can see it steam as many times as you want every 15 minutes but the area around it itself its very crowded and full of homeless so..
Gastown is a must Visit vibrant locality for anyone visiting Vancouver for the first time.Though gastown is famous for the steam clock, one must also visit for the yesteryears charm, great eateries, souvenir shops, art houses and great architecture.
Clock gets 5+ 🌟, but area is less than desirable. Though not as bad as other very nearby areas of town. Loved to be able to see in the clock, see the stream, and hear the sounds! On a street corner, no fees no hours.
Definitely worth a visit if youre in the area. The clock comes with its own history and is mentioned in every bit of Vancouver publicity that you see. It plays a wee tune on the hour and steams every 15 mins. Must see!Gastown is a lovely place to wander around in general. One of our guides told us to avoid Gastown for various reasons but Im happy that we chose to ignore his advice.
Quaint clock powered by steam and mechanical precision. Its good to gather around few minutes before the top of the hour. Youll see around 15-20 tourists already gathered around. There are no fees. It is at a street corner. The viewing is about 2 minutes and you can continue with dinner at any of the fantastic food joints in the vicinity.
This is a neat walk-up do at your own time experience. The clock whistles on every quarter hour with more of a show at the turn of each hour. It is run completely by steam
It’s a popular landmark in Gastown and tends to be a busy area within walking distance of many food places and scenery to explore. It’s very cool to look at and take photos of however, there tends to be some wait to take photos.
Just do not despair if the hour arrives on the hour and the clock does not sound usually takes a couple of minutes. And if you are lucky some characters appear walking around in costumes of the time.
The area can be sketchy if you get off the wrong road but overall its a good place to visit for your last minute souvenirs. I found they are significantly cheaper here than other places around Vancouver
I grew up listening to the sound of an antique grandfather clock standing in the corner of the living room. It is still with my family, but its mechanism is getting too old that it gets fixed more than it actually works. It plays the same music as the steam clock, and it plays every 15 mins. When I lived in Vancouver, I didn’t think it matters. It is just a clock. It’s not as symbolic as Statue of Liberty nor the Golden Gate Bridge. It is small, insignificant and it’s singing is late at least 3 mins. But it feels different this time, while I became a visitor. The old steam clock is still the same, still late, but felt like an old friend.
Most of the people who lives in Vancouver have told me that there is nothing much about it but it really blew my mind to see a Steam Clock at this era and the ringing was so beautiful. I can only imagine the craft work, detailing and engineering behind this beautiful vintage technology. There is a must try Peruvian Cafe aside and the food there was really tasty. Always always go to Gastown Steam Clock when it is about to ring its steamy ringtone. Such a happy thing to see.
Always a busy place, we were able to see the steam coming out and also hear the sound it makes for every few minutes. Great to stop by while exploring downtown.
Its a nice place to take pictures if youre visiting Vancouver or just live here. The whole street is very beautiful and has tons of food options. If you like Italian, you must try Old Spaghetti Factory - Do reserve your table beforehand.
A nice landmark to see. Whistles every so often and there is some moving mechanism inside.Lots of nice stores, good dining and souvenir kiosks in the area.
One of the adorable sightseeing in Vancouver downtown. It is located in the centre of downtown.Very nice walking street surrounding of lots of shops & restaurants.Entire street is nicely organized with decorative street light poles.Street musician performers will be available on this street. This clock is really amazing work on steam & giving whistle on every 4.5 minutes. Mechanism is superbly transparent visible to tourist.Photos is highly recommended as background buildings will add flavour of essence in picture.Highly recommend to visit to everybody.
Nice attraction in downtown Vancouver. Great place for a walk and visit to one of the local restaurants. Steam clock is an interesting concept, I don’t remember seeing something like this anywhere else!
An amazing spot to take pictures. There’s a Starbucks across the street where you can sit and wait for the steam to rise and sound off the clock. There are some souvenir shops nearby.
Great attraction, specially on a rainy winter day, grab a coffee and go on a stroll in history. Fantastic and effortless photography opportunity. Contrast of today(the modem buildings in the backdropand the clock (in focusis a sight to see. Kids love this place too and wont stop reading the signs and history behind the be clock.
Love walking, bar hopping, and shopping in this area. This place reminds me of pioneer square in Seattle. Classic brick buildings, beautiful trees, lots of cool restaurants, and bars. Definitely a fun street to be walking around.
Interesting and unique steam mechanical clock. While everybodys busy taking videos of the clock tooting (every 15 minutes I think), I was mesmerized by the internal working of this beauty...
Even on a rainy day, this is a must see! Such a beautiful neighborhood with gorgeous architecture and lovely brick sidewalks. You can really get lost in the city. It’s not busy or crowded so definitely check out this beautiful clock while you stroll the streets of Gastown
