I loved our visit here! Great Hawaiian theamed rooms and decor. Super friendly and hospitable staff. I would definitely visit again. Super nice break from the chain hotels.
The staff are so accommodating and welcoming at this property, they really make you feel super welcome and are happy to help however they can. The hotel is also very comfortable.
amazing staff and owner, with healthy breakfast. Very clean, accessible and you will feel at home. definitely we will go back and stay. rooms are very nice and a lot of plants, flowers and trees. Apologies as i dont know all the names of the staff, but Michael was very accomodating, helpful and kind. He even went extra mile as he waited for our late arrival and welcomes us. thank you Michael and guys, from the De Leon family.
This Hotel was everything and more for what we could of imagined for our honeymoon! They made the little things the BIG things! They had fresh cut flowers from their garden put in your room everyday, a wonderful breakfast filled with fresh fruit that they grew themselves. The rooms are so clean and beautiful! Steve and Lis really put the thought and effort into making their guests happy and comfortable. Would highly recommend staying here when you visit Kaua’i! We will be back - we miss you guys already!
I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough - I don’t often feel compelled to write reviews. The staff are incredibly caring and friendly - much more so than any five star hotel I’ve stayed at. Free snacks, free rental of beach equipment, fantastic breakfast with fresh fruit included. The mini papaya was harvested from the owner’s property, and was the best papaya I’ve tasted - deceptively flavourful and sweet - not offered every day so get in while you can. The soaps/shampoo were excellent - I went shopping to buy some. Stay here if you want friendly, clean and homely surrounds.I accidentally left my indoor car lights on in the parking lot around 9:30pm one night, and the receptionist figured out whose car it was, then knocked on my door to warn me that my battery would go flat if I didn’t see to it - she would have saved me a huge amount of money on a roadside assistance callout for my rental car! I am very grateful for their service. Thank you so much, Garden Island Inn!
WONDERFUL family owned hotel. The staff are all magnificent and there is such beautiful scenery right here. Everything is a stones throw away, so its a great area to stay. The rooms are lovely and spacious, and the courtyard is wonderfully set up and beautiful to look at. There is complementary snorkle gear, movies, popcorn, etc. The koi are amazingly cute too.
Very unique, nice place. Very cute room. Very courteous check in. Across the street from the Cruise terminal. Very near restaurants can drive or a quarter mile walk. Only 2 miles from the airport
My only regret was that we didnt stay longer. After venturing around the island for the week I was thrilled to check into the Garden Island Inn for one night before we flew home. I knew it was going to be the cute, kitschy place that was close to shopping and dining, but the service was over the top welcoming. From upgrading our room, to the breakfast spread, to the complimentary use of beach items, I couldnt get over how friendly and accommodating the staff was. Highly recommend and look forward to coming back to the Garden Island Inn.
I don’t usually leave reviews, but I had to in this case. I was on the island a few days and stayed at the Kauai Beach Resort and enjoyed a sunset dinner at the Princeville Resort, but the service and experience I had at the Garden Island Inn surpassed both of those “resorts” by a MILE!!!I missed my flight off the island and booked a last minute room at the Garden Island Inn. There was a double booking, so I was upgraded to a better room at no additional charge. I had an evening flight the next day and was able to store my bags and use the complimentary beach gear during the day. They also let me shower and change in an extra room before my flight and insisted I take some snacks, fruit and water for the road.Everyone I encountered was so incredibly kind and made me feel so welcome and like such a valued guest. I cannot recommend this place enough!!!As for the amenities, the rooms are simple, but very colorful and festive. The breakfast in the morning consisted of fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries and a delicious fruit pie. Kalapaki beach park is just across the street and is surrounded by fun spots to grab lunch or a happy hour cocktail. And the hotel is less than 10 minutes from the airport!I had such a wonderful experience and I will definitely be booking a room at the Garden Island Inn when I return to the island!
They dont just treat you like family here, they treat you like favorite family they havent seen in years. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Everything you need is provided: beach chairs, sunblock, boogie boards, microwave popcorn, even snorkel gear. The owners are on premise, and they make sure your stay is enjoyable. The breakfast of fresh fruit (some grown on property), custard pie, Yogurt, and pastry starts your day right. They are convenient to many restaurants and the bus stop in front can get you to Costco. What more could you want?
It was a very nice hotel. I cant remember the lady at the front desks name but she was so sweet and professional. She said she had years of experience. Shes awesome.
Very beautiful rooms!! Local artwork in every room. Fruit and snacks for bfast. Lots of outside room, grassy and shady. Very nice staff, super helpful. Beach across the street is awesome, beach toys to use free of charge in office. Clean and homey feeling.
Beautiful and comfortable spot! The whole place is covered in vividly colored art, the room is well furnished, and the complimentary breakfast was delicious. Great harbor view. Good central location. Come here for a much more down to earth and cozy stay compared to the average resort.
The hospitality is A+. I felt like we were family while here! Angela is the sweetest human being alive!!! The world needs more people like her in it. Hotel location is across from beach area and lighthouse. Charming interior and outside. Very Hawai’i! Older unit but very very clean!!! Bed was awesome! This place offers free breakfast, access to free beach towels, body boards, etc. We will be staying here again!!
Great location, great staff and very clean. Charming rooms with excellent fruit and light breakfast choices make this a great stop. Close to the beach and plenty of shopping and did nearby. Did I say the staff was great. 😀
We stayed here just for one night after arriving late on Christmas eve before traveling to another part of the island. It was a delightful experience and I wish would have stayed an extra night. Friendly people, clean rooms, lovely amenities and easy location
A hidden gem!! We were so blessed to find an availability so close to the airport and reasonably priced. It was decorated beautifully and lit up at night I only had one chance to capture the pic. Darn guess I will have to come back. Everyone was so kind and accommodating. They even had gear for the beach to borrow. Great, great place
Great hospitality and nice rooms. It is a beautiful location very close to the beach. The hotel also provides board games, dvds and beach supplies like towels, umbrellas, etc. for you to take and return it when you are done. This was one of the best things I liked as it makes you feel like home. We really enjoyed our stay here.
I think this is a lovely hotel with rooms that are interesting and beautifully decorated, and with balconies that have wonderful views of Nawiliwili Bay.Certain amenities that most other hotels have are not here. There is no pool. There is no fitness center. There is no business center. But when youre on a Hawaiian island with hiking trails and beaches everywhere, who needs a pool? Who needs a fitness center? And most of all, who on earth needs a business center in the middle of a vacation paradise? In lieu of a typical dry scrambled eggs and greasy bacon, the owners wife makes an amazing fresh-fruit/pumpkin pie along with small cakes and fruit selections and (of coursegreat coffee! The owner was a delightful man, and I found him to be most accommodating with an unimportant issue I raised. All in all, Lea and I spent a wonderful week in Kauai, Including Enjoying this delightful hotel.
Nice, quaint little hotel,... right across from the harbor... very convenient to have the kitchenettes in the rooms, even though they are a little on the “cozy” side, as far as size. And dont be startled when a little lizard meanders around your room at night... cute & harmless..; )
We spent 5 nights at the garden island inn. Our room (21), was spacious, and had a huge balcony to enjoy the views from. Im rating it 5 stars because my expectations were either met or exceeded in every way. Dont come here expecting a resort experience, or a brand new hotel. Do come here expecting welcoming hosts, a delicious breakfast, a great location, and a fantastic value!
Very happy with our 2 week stay here. All of the staff were extremely friendly. Angela was amazing. Ive never had such service from a hotel before. Felt like I had a new friend of the day I arrived. The location was great, and made it very easy to get anywhere we need to be. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a laid back place to stay.
My wife and I stayed at this beautiful hotel for the first week of our Hawaii honeymoon. We could not have asked for a better low-key place with amazing staff and friendly people all-around. The room was perfect and they gave us chocolates in honor of our honeymoon!! So delicious. The room was cleaned everyday and very tidy on day one. The decor and artwork here was very unique and we were absolutely in love with the theme. We wish would could have taken some of the art home with us we loved it so much! If youre looking for a central place to stay without the hullabaloo of the big resorts then we HIGHLY recommend the Garden Island Inn. You wont regret it.
A lovely gem! Beachy feel hotel with personal charm from the owners and hosts. Great garden area to enjoy a fresh banana and your morning coffee. Close to the airport, beach, and several restaurants.
Shabby chic, very clean and marvelously decorated inn. The room and stay includes breakfast, a little kitchen box with all necessary supplies for the morning coffee or even some take-in food and a little refrigerator. The ventilation is perfect. There is really no need for tge airconditioner. About $200/night (2018).
They had a few two story condos that I was placed in. It was really nice and fully furnished with everything you would need. Great views from the balcony. Close to the beach and the shops. Its expensive, but everything here is.
Would definitely stay here again. Super helpful staff. Great location. Towels and boogie boards you can borrow. Good value. Only down side was a bit of a musty beach house smell
The owners (Lis & Steve Layne), the staff, (Sheila & Joyce were especially wonderful). The great reviews about the food, the warm & friendly staff and the close location to the airport is why I chose to stay here. There are complimentary home made baked goods, great tasting coffee and an exceptionally tasty Island Pumpkin Pie available to all guests each morning. My instincts were correct in believing the positive Google reviews.I was introduced to both of the owners by the wonderful woman who checked me in. One of the owners carried my suitcase up 3 flights at 9 PM as I was exhausted from the series of plane flights to get here which came to 17 hours. I was very grateful. This is a charming, older, very clean place within walking distance of great restaurants and shops. It is across the street from the beautiful water of Kalapaki Beach where beginner surfers learn from great instructors. There is no pool here but the rates start at $175 per night which is very affordable for Kauai. There is no charge to swim at the beautiful beach across the street. On the day I checked out at 11 AM, I had a 9 PM flight to LAX which is quite common for Kauai Airport. This left quite a few hours to fill. The staff informed me that I could leave my luggage in their care while I toured more of the island. I was also told that I could use one of the basic rooms downstairs to take a shower after swimming at the beach across the street. No charge. This is a standard benefit for all their guests and just one of the reasons people keep returning to their establishment.I recommend reading all Google reviews and perusing the photos of this lovely place to determine if it is right for you.
What a fantastic experience! Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. The customer service was GREAT! Very accommodating, close to the airport with easy access, and close to the beach too. Perfect if you just need a place to sleep after your flight, would be great to stay for a vacation too.Its not a 5 star high-end hotel with posh finishes, but the rooms are incredibly clean and well-maintained.Highly recommend checking it out!
Great location, close to restaurants, bars, services, and a very nice beach. A shuttle stop is right in front of the office.Excellent customer service, clean room with a garden area with lounge chairs and tables to relax in.
I was nervous just cuz of the 2 star hotel, but figured Id trust the customer ratings. This place wont have the high end fixtures and sinks and rooms that the $500/night rooms will, but this place is fantastic. Super nice and friendly staff. They offer free fruit for breakfast, provide free energy bars all day, board games, and chairs and floating noodles for the beach. The rooms are nice and cozy. I slept with my windows open each night. They have some kinda fountain in back and it actually provides for some "ambient noise" (is it considered white noise? And is kinda soothing when going to bed. And Im usually one who cant sleep with random, annoying noises when falling asleep. Id definitely stay here again. Oh. And if you book at least 7 nights, they give your macadamia chocolates.
A wonderful little spot with great pricing, scenery, and service. The staff I worked with made it feel like a family owned inn, and really prided themselves on welcoming their guests. On our arrival we were given a brief tour of their Koi pond as well as some of the beautiful greenery that grew at the appropriately named in. This hotel feels like a slice of paradise on Kauai, and is a must see even if just for a one night stay. Some of the room design is a little dated, but internet quality and aforementioned environment more than makes up for it.
We stayed here for one night because we arrived on the island one day before our resort reservation began. We really loved the charm and convenient location of the inn. When we arrived we were shocked about how much room we got for the price. Three beds with an ocean view for less than 200 a night! Would recommend.
I knew from the decor this was it! If I had a hotel it would be exactly like this. Clean, convenient, comfortable, and cozy. We had a ground floor room in the corner. It had beautiful paintings on the walls, hung on the walls, the ceiling and furniture. With a lovely Tommy Bahama bed cover. Nice towels and everything we needed in the kitchenette. The gardens were interesting and well maintained. We are from Florida and I have never seen a citrus tree so big. Everyone who works here LOVES what they do and it shows in alll they do. We luckily got to sample a home made snack one morning of a sweet potatoe pie with fruit on top. Local bananas grown right there are the best tasting in the world. Beach towels, chairs, mats, boogie boards and snorkel gear provided. Nice DVD library. Cozy outdoor seating in the gardens everywhere. AlwaysSomething interesting and beautiful look at. Just a little road noise blocked with earplugs.Go straight to the hotel website or call to start your Aloha. Dont miss Dukes across the street and a stroll through the Mariott. Convenient store across street.
Decor is colorful and charming, rooms are clean, and employees are all super friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed it so much we stayed twice!
This place is super cute!!!! There are so many personal touches with the local artwork, the unique decor of the rooms, and the hospitality of the hotel staff. In fact, the hotel staff will let you borrow beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards, and even stand-up paddle boards for free! Its also very conveniently located- it is right across the street from Kalapaki Beach and over a dozen shops and restaurants, down the road from downtown Lihue, and fairly central between the different regions of Kauai. I would highly recommend this quaint hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun time on Kauai!
We just loved it here. The staff are friendly and generous, and the accommodations are just right for the price. Beds are comfy and rooms are clean. What a fun place to stay.
We spent one night here before boarding our flight out of Lihue. We were kindly welcomed by the great staff. They were very accommodating and helpful! We had to check out at 11am and our flight was at 9pm but they lended us towels and a boogie board so we could spend time at the beach to give us something to do for the day! Excellent location (across the road from a beach and great restaurantsand a very friendly staff. I would definitely recommend!
Our stay at the GII was excellent. We were greeted by friendly service, and were impressed by all the nice perks and goodies this charming inn offered. It was in a great location across from the beach, and many good restaurants and attractions were a walk or short drive away.
Lovely. Quaint. Super friendly staff. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. Lots of shopping and eating in walking distance. Wed definitely come back.
Very helpful staff. You can borrow beach equipment for no rental charge (towels, chairs, toys, etc.as long as you bring it back at the end of the day. They always have coffee and snacks in the lounge, and its a perfect location so close to the beach. I wish I could go back tomorrow!
I would recommend this charming hotel to anybody coming to Kauai. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. The staff must be the friendliest on the island. They go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. It is centrally located making it easy to explore both the west and the north side of the island.
So charming and convenient. Would happily return. Attendants were very accommodating, even when we got locked out of our room early in the morning. Spare a few minutes to walk around the property and check out the banana trees.
My husband and I arrived late on the day before I made the reservation. The owner was awesome and tried to get us a room for the night, but the motel was completely full. He informed me that I had made the reservation for the next night. Oops! The owner even tried to find us a room at nearby motels. Everything nearby was full too, so I called a family member who was all ready on the island to come and get us. Meanwhile, we were treated to drinks and snacks and wonderful company. The owner introduced us to a group of softball players that were having a gathering there and they shared their food and drinks with us while we waited for our family to pick us up. What a wonderful group of people! Thank you so much for taking care of two very tired travelers! We hope to visit your beautiful place on our next visit to Kauai.
Friendly staff and comfortable accommodations for the price. Not the best view, but a one-of-a-kind stay. Definitely not a chain vibe, in a good way. Offered to pop us some popcorn to go with the free dvd we borrowed.
Uniquely beautiful place and seriously the most friendly and helpful staff. And the location is unbeatable, close to everything! Very clean rooms and you get much more than you pay for. I definitely recommend and I will return!
First time ever to the Islands. Needed a place for one night before traveling north for the bulk of our visit. LOVED the warm family atmosphere... And the beautiful gardens. Decor is colorful and fun, reflects, quaint and "Island - like" culture. Amazing! Love how the building is lit up at night 😊. Not modern, but clean and has all the comforts of home. We will go back to spend more time on south side. Only draw back is the late check ins ... People dont realize how their voices travel. Lost a few hours of sleep , but would never complain.. Nice people!comforts of home.
Never Stayed at one of the smaller hotels, I have to say wow I am hooked! The staff is so nice and everyone tell you "good morning" in the AM ! I have never received this for an larger hotel. The hotel is very clean, plenty of parking and the view is also great! To the staff at GII Thank you! Oh...... They also offer free Wireless Internet
2 star accommodations, 5 star service. Hands down the friendliest staff we have EVER experienced in our 20+ years of travel. So glad that family owned hotels like this still exist.
After last minute changes, we were very excited to find this place. They gave a good price and really worked with us to make our stay enjoyable. Its a 3 min walk to the beach and they provided beach towels and snorkel gear for us to use. We had a larger room with two beds and a balcony facing the ocean. There was a lot of artwork throughout the inn. The front desk personnel were great to work. I would definitely recommend staying here over a resort, then using the money saved to spend on seeing more of the island.
