Trg Fra Grge Martića 2, Sarajevo 71000, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Sarajevo
Modern gallery with artistic & documentary multimedia content memorializing the Srebrenica massacre.
Such a poignant place to visit. Harrowing images and videos of the Massacre of Srebrenica and The Siege of Sarajevo and The Bosnian War. If you are ever here in Sarajevo you should visit this place and learn what happened.
Terribly heart-breaking but these are stories that absolutely need to be told. The ticket allows you to visit this museum over 2 days which is quite thoughtful as it could get too heavy to handle all in one go. The gallery also opens until 9pm which is very convenient if you are in Sarajevo only a short time and want to pack a lot in. Make sure to get the audio guide and watch the documentaries - allow about 2 hours all up.
An immersive and touching exposition to tell the tale behind the Srebrenica genocide. The gallery goes beyond just showing pictures but tells the stories of those affected, making the experience more personal beyond the abstract statistics of the tragedy. Our tickets were valid for two days, which allowed us to listen to all the stories and watch all videos over multiple days. It can get heavy and intense to do everything at once. The audio guide is optional at the entrance but you absolutely have to take it.
An astonishingly moving experience. Extremely informative. Allow plenty of time.
Mixed multimedia experience on the Srebrenica genocide. Such an impactful way of telling stories! I learnt so much in the 1.5 hours that I was there. Do get the audio guide. It only costs KM4 and it helps give context to the photos that you are looking at. Entry fee is only KM12. Definitely worth a visit!
Takes much more time than i expected. Didnt finish all audio.
One of the best museums in Sarajevo
Amazing and touching memorial to the war and genocide. The amount of pictures was exactly right, enough to fill the space, but not so many that you lose interest. The accompanying audio guide is a must, the photographer beautifully - yet briefly - contextualises his images. One special thing to note is that a large part of the gallery depicts the aftermath of genocide and war: grieving families, the search for remains and documenting war crimes. Many war museums depict war, and most war photography I knew depicted soldiers and war imagery. This gallery about what follows was truly unique. Must-see in Sarajevo. If you visit one war-related museum, visit this one.
A must do when in Sarajevo, price is expensive though (8€/p with audioguide)
Very tough, not for kids. Very well made and very good audio guide. This place gives you an intimate insight into the genocide of Srebrenica
Its as painful, heavy hearted and sad as it gets. But in this context its the biggest compliment. A strong, well captured important part of BiH history, captured in this exhibition. The story that should be told and heard. Well done !
Yet another must visit place in Sarajevo. This is the war seen by an artist. The conflation of the visual medium with audio transcripts hit you to the core and the brutality of all forms of human right violations is laid out naked. Its a difficult experience, but a necessary one.
Really interesting and heartbreaking exhibition. A must visit in Sarajevo. I would recommend everyone to get the supplementary audio-guide, because it adds so much depth to all the pictures that are exposed.
Very interesting exposition about the effects of the civil war in Bosnias field. The contents are extensive, so significant time is needed to watch it in full (4h). Still, it is recommended.
The stark realities of genocide in modern times are on display here, interpreted primarily through a series of incredible photographs taking the aftermath of events at Srebrenica. Chilling, but so important to understand...
Excellent gallery, museum. A must if interested in Srebrenica genocide and modern history of BiH in general.
Such an incredible art/gallery museum! Make sure you give it a go during your trip to Sarajevo! And please watch the documentaries and movies 🎥
Really good museum, its in the 3td floor of the building, the exposition is not big, just a single floor but very touching. Lots of imagens and videos that you can watch even without audio guide. Entrance is 12 KM, around 6 euros.
Liked it. Worth visiting. In the city centre next to the Sarajevo Catherdal. Everybody should visit this place which keeps memory on the victims of the Srebrenica genocide committed in July in 1995.
One of the must see places in Sarajevo: this exposition will undress your soul. We were silent, we were shocked, we were crying. All range of emotions after watching videos, photo gallery. You will leave a bit different person, you will understand Bosnia a bit better
Heartbreaking, intense yet beautiful. The gallery is small but it showcases a good mix of art and information about the genocide in Srebrenica, allowing the visitors to learn about the history in different angles. Even though the gallery is small, you can easily spend a day there depending how much you want to take in. My ticket was valid for two days, and I would have went back the next day if I didn’t have a flight to catch because there is just so much to digest.Highly recommend to get the audio guide since it explains a lot about the photos displayed in the gallery. The computer contains a lot of a information and small details of the whole event, while the short film is just impressive - you can really see how emotionally this genocide affects the people. I would suggest everyone to pay a visit.
One room exhibition with several photos. As the name suggests, it focus on the after match rather than the war itself. The entrance fee the the highest of all the museums I went(12 marks), and +4 marks for the audio guide (which is totally worth it).Sadly, it fells that it is too small. The quality of the photos and audio guide are great, I wish there were more.By the end of the room there are 2 movies with more than 1 hour duration, also worth your time.
Make sure you take the audio guide. Its essential for this exibition. Entrance and audio guide is 16 Mark. You can see photos from a local Bosnian photographer but the photos are not so impressive compared to the Infos shared. There are two video screens. Each take around 40 min to watch several documentaries and short movies. Recomand to visit if you interested in the history of the genocide of Bosnia.
This a photograph exhibition gallery and a museum/memorial about the genocide at srebrenica in 1995. Apart from the artistic photographs the are some documentaries and short films that one should watch and videos with the life stories of some of the survivors. This a very sad place although 25 years have passed. Srebrenica must not be forgotten.the tickets lasts for two days.
This is a must go place in Sarajevo. Through the audio guide, you know more about the Srebrenica massacre, this place you feel heartbroken! Highly recommend to people who love history.
A sombre, touching museum which will stay in my head for a long time. The museum is principally a photo exhibition with a detailed and harrowing audio tour which I recommend paying for. There are also a series of subtitled films about the massacre playing on a loop which are definitely worth watching. A sad experience but one that we need to be reminded of. Id recommend visiting here after the Museum of War Crimes so that you have a good idea of the roots of the conflict and the context in which Srebrenica took place as it assumes some knowledge.
A powerful and moving experience. Excellent audio guide and photography. You could easily spend many hours here - we were there for around 2.5 hours and only watched about half of the content on the computers and less than half of what was on the TVs.
The Srebrenica exposition is a must. It is amazing how evil some men can do.
Very much recommended. Well said story of the balkan war. The gallery is very interactive, has audioguides, videos.
A Gallery that touches your heart. I highly recommend using the audio guide, because it explains every picture in the gallery and it will give you a history behind every one of them. There are also documentaries playing in the room and they are very emotional.
Extremely well done and very informative. Would really recommend getting the audio guide as you learn so much about the tragedy that took place, and get a real feel for how the people affected have suffered. Can be done in a couple of hours depending on how much you want to watch on the small screens at the very beginning.
Very interesting museum. A lot of knowledge about the sad truth of war between Serbians and Bosnia.
Very intense experience, a very beautiful museum not only focussed on testimonies, but also on art and photography during and after the war (the short film "Miss Sarajevo" was amazing).Plus, theres a very well-made historical introduction at the start of the museum.Recommended to everyone who is interested in art, graphics design, photography and the history of Sarajevo and Srebreniza during the war.
Very morbid place about very dark period of recent history. I am not sure it is necessary to visit there because all around Sarajevo, there are still many sites(bulidings with bullet holes, parks turned into cemeteries and Rose of Sarajevo). I didnt learn anything new during the visit of the gallery
Was really helpful to understand the history. The audio guide was really helpful - strongly recommended to use it. It’s small therefore you can thoroughly enjoy the space. The video clip - “10min” vividly pictures what happened during the Sarajevo siege poignantly. The staff was aloof and not nice - I felt upset after a great time at the gallery though.
The gallery might be small as some of the reviews pointed out, HOWEVER with the amazing audioguide, the films and the interactive screens you can spend many hours learning about the horrifying and appalling tragedy of the genocide. Theres also an incredible movie titled " miss Sarajevo" portraying the everyday life as well as a bit of counterculture during the siege of Sarajevo using only original footage. All the incredible photographs as well as the original video footage and the informative (albeit horrifying information from the audioguide have left a deep and unforgettable impression on me. During my stay in Bosnia and Herzogovina I have been trying to learn as much as possible about the conflict in the 90s and this museum was a real eye-opener. Do not miss while in Sarajevo and do absolutely get the audio guide (its 3 additional KM and available in many languages). Thank you to the museum for preserving the memory of these tragic events!
A breathtaking experience! We really appreciated the exhibition with its pictures that told a thousand sad storys. The focus on oral history with personal storys and interviews with people from srebrenica opens a new view to visitors that is not thought in school or in most books. Very detailed so bring enough time! (and defenitly take the audio guide!!!)
Small but impressive exhibition. I recommend to take the audioguide and sit down to watch the documentary Srebrenica Memorial Film.
A place to visit in Sarajevo. It is a gallery of photos and videos about both the genocide in Srebrenica and the siege of Sarajevo. The gallery is small but the films shown are quite long (but very interestingand if you want to see everything, it can take about 3 hours. With one ticket you can enter twice. The place you need to see in Sarajevo.
Go to this place. It’s very powerful, and much better than the museum of war and genocide. One small critique: I had some trouble with the prominence placed on some graffiti writings soldiers tagged on bunker walls. These more or less private blurbs I don’t think necessarily represent the complex feelings of the Dutchbat’s stationed there.
A sad but very needed experience. Lots of photos from the 90s Bosnian war. They have a couple of films that play as well. I would recommend that everyone who comes to Sarajevo see the gallery. I went in June of 2018.
Powerful and moving photos, especially when paired with the stories provided by the audio guide. The entire exhibit was well laid out and the videos further told the story through personal accounts. After watching part of Miss Sarajevo in the gallery, I purchased a copy to watch at home and share the story with others. While I’d heard news accounts of the atrocities in Srebrenica, this experience provided me with a better understanding of the events that took place. Thank you for sharing this story in such an impactful way - while it is painful to hear and see, it’s important that we learn from these terrible events.
Even though the museum is in a small territory - you can spend like 1,5 hrs easily there listening to the commentars and watching the movies. The museum is a really quality one.The Sarajevo siege extra photos are very powerful.AUDIO GUIDE IS A MUST!
Really like the concept of the gallery (12kmand getting an audio guide (+ 3kmis a must. The photographs are really powerful and the audio guide adds depth to the photos by providing back stories as well. Interactive films are also shown in the gallery.Note: tickets are valid for 2 days and you have to provide an ID in exchange for audio guide.
I walked in with a vague concept of what I was going to see because prior to the visit I went to the museum of war against humanity and genocide nearby and the one in Mostar. I left there almost two hours later with a heavy heart. The conflict in former Yugoslavia took place when I was a high school student in Taiwan, but I did not realize it was so horrific. The content focus on the genocide in Srebrenica where at least 8372 women, men and children was systematically murdered, as well as the suffering of their parents, offspring and relative years after. You have to go and visit this place if you are in Sarajevo.
The most upsetting war, emotional gallery. Everyone should visit it, i would air the "Miss Sarajevo" in every highschool. Even that i live close to Serbia, i could understood only here how huge crimes happened in Jugoslavia.
The best museum in Sarajevo. Impressive, painful, rich in emotions. It must have for every young and old.
"All what is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" (Edmund Burke)Not all the places here in Bosnia are nice and pleasant. The cemeteries are full with the memorials for the people who died in 1992-1995. Hundreds of the them. There are literally walls with the names of these people who were dreaming to live longer but it didnt happened. There are still the holes and the marks on the buildings from the Balkans war. These scars remind about the events which all of us remember. But our "memories" are the "truth" here.We went to the Center to learn more about what happened. No comment on the event and the parts. But knowing that several thousands of civil people (whatever their believes and whatever their nationalities weregone... its a heavy knowledge 😔Some general information:The Srebrenica massacre, also known as the Srebrenica genocide, was the July 1995 genocide of more than 8,000 Muslim Bosniaks, mainly men and boys, in and around the town of Srebrenica during the Bosnian War.
Great museum to understand the history about the war. It could be a bit impact but very educative. Be aware that you will need some time to read everything (if you are really into). It also includes a documentary.
The museum focuses on the massacre that took place at Srebrenica in 1995. We got the audio-guide (you must get one!from the reception and spent more than two hours inside this museum. I recommend everyone who visits sarajevo to go to this museum. I dont want to say too much what you will see because you really should see it yourself.
