Gaesung Mandu - Koong - Dumpling restaurant in Seoul, South Korea
Not friendly. Very late on pick up order. I was told 15 mins but waited, standing for 45 mins. I didn’t get any apology either. They ran out of kimchi dumpling at 4:30 pm. Dumpling is very average for that type of dumpling. Nothing special. No need to go out of your way to visit. You can get that kind of dumpling at so many other places.
Chanced upon this famous place. tasty and fast service. 29,000 krw for these 2 sets. Have to order something each.
Fantastic dumplings in a traditional setting. Friendly staff
Best seafood pancakes in Seoul. Their dumpling soup comes with generous five Mandus, warm broth that is soothing in a cold evening. The pork and dumpling platter comes with spinach and lettuce 🥬 pickles, nice combo with the meat
Was a little skeptical how nice the dumplings could be at first. However, taking a sip of the broth quickly changed my mind. The flavors are light but also provide depth. The mixture of meat and vegetables inside the dumpling are very well balanced. After a little dash of soy sauce youll be in for a surprise. The restaurant itself is pretty small, hence the long wait times during peak hours. Service is fast and good. They have an English menu
I really enjoyed my lunch here - the dumplings and pork dish ( 보쌈were excellent. The dumplings tasted like how my grandma used to make them … totally recommended - very delicious. The Aunty (아줌마was cute and friendly.
NOT Recommended. Lots of mosquito 🦟 in this restaurant... If this mandu can be recommended by Michelin, there are 3 reasons (1Michelin doesnt know about mandu or dumplings (2the level of korena dumplings is below average in the world. (3service is not good
Excellent!
I tied kimchi dumpling in soup and mushroom dumplingI think it is okay - me personally cannot appreciate the mince meat texture in the kimchi dumpling as muchSize is huge
Really affordable and high-quality dumpling spot that serves North Korean style dumplings. The broth is fabulous. Not sure why this place has gotten a number of lower reviews, but it was really nice. Easygoing, attentive service, good food, simple atmosphere. You can honestly eat here for two only spend 16,000 won.
Great dumplings aand fried pancake,
Michellin class Korean restaurant with good traditional liquor. Quite recommendable!
Lovely traditional mandu in a cozy setting with lots of history.
So amazing - pancakes are must
Everything tastes great and the service is superb.
Affordable, great food and great lively vibe. Suitable for families, friends and solo diners. Extremely friendly staff and fast service. You may have to wait in a queue but this enhances the experience.I ordered kimchi pork dumplings. Everything else - the banchan (side dishes- were already on the table as I sat down.
Very tasty dumplings as expected :)Good prices and friendly service as well.
Really good dumplings and a nice traditional setting. The acorn jelly was delicious. Michelin Bib restaurant at an affordable price.
6 years in a row michelin guide selected restaurant. Best korean dimsum 만두 place in a tradional house setting. Good to bring foreign visitor.
Great place! Friendly staff!
Tried this mandu place in insadong that had a vegetarian option and a Michelin star. Six large mushroom mandu for 13,000. Tasty mandu, though i do prefer Jahasonmandu in buamdong. And even though these as vegetarian mandu, they still serve it with a side bowl of non vegetarian soup. Added potato pancake with the mushroom which was really good.Sorry that i didnt take photo of the food. Was hungry and ate too quickly 🤣
Spent ₩62,000 for very rude service.I had a terrible dining experience at, 개성만두 궁 in Insadong. The staff was nice enough for part of the meal but as closing time (8pmapproched, their behavior changed drastically and they became extremely hostile and frantic. Around 7:55, staff started to rush everyone out of the restaurant, angrily clearing tables clanking dishes and acting like it was an emergency to have every single person out by 8 pm. Right at 8 p.m. my husband and I were finishing our last bites when two staff members came to our table one of them glaring at us while yelling over our heads at the other staff member. Feeling so uncomfortable, we stuffed the last bites in our mouths as the staffs agressive behavior made us feel like an extremely unwelcome presence. Im in disbelief that I spent ₩62,000 on this meal only to be shoved out the door right at closing. This kind of unprofessional and extremely rude service should not be tolerated at a Michelin Star restaurant.
Not too impressed but it was probably because of the high expectations of going to Michelin guide. We had 콩국수(grenenbean soup cold noodle), 녹두전(mungbean pancake), and 도토리묵(acorn jellyset memu. All of them were decent but the prices seemed little too high for the quality. The toilet was clean. The staffs were kind and attentive. But not sure if Id go back...
Its a bit difficult to find so look out for the sign in an alleyway. We came here to have dinner. The ladies were lovely and gave us English menus. When our food arrived she showed us how to make the bossam wrap. The dumplings are massive and filling. I recommend getting 4, and 6 if sharing. Good place to try out
I love the history behind this place. We saw them making dumplings from the window so I ordered a variety tray and the hotpot for two. It was way too much food for two, but it was so good we ate as much as we could [during lunchtime].The customer service is also superb. You want it? You got it, at top speed. Great experience even though youll most likely have to wait to get in. Its worth the wait though.
Wow! One our our favorite meals in Seoul! As the Bib Gourmand rating suggests, this was an excellent dining experience at a very reasonable cost. We stopped by for a late lunch on a Tuesday as we wandered between art museums in the area. Surprisingly there was no wait. The dumplings are so filling and delicious. The staff is brisk but friendly, and offered an English menu as their English was about as limited as our Korean speaking skills.
Tasty dumplings and very filling. Authentic dumpling house where There is often a queue to get in. Once choose your dumplings and enjoy with the cold Side dishes set on the table. Good place for a lunch.
Of course we needed to try the Gaeseong-style dumplings, and they were large and tasty. Our waitress wanted to ensure we knew how we were supposed to eat them by breaking them apart and drizzling with soy sauce. They were tasty, and the watery kimchi provided an interesting, palate cleansing interval. Since there are so many places in Seoul to try, we probably will not return on this visit, at least.
So this is a Michelin star restaurant that makes homemade dumplings (a woman literally sits by the window making fresh dumplings! We had the kimchi-pork dumplings (my favorite), the regular pork, and a chive jeon! Way too much food because the size of the food there is enormous! Of course you get banchan and then they also served us soup on the side as well! We loved all of the food and of course they were kind enough to provide us with a to go sealed box for our jeon! Menu is in Korean and English! Staff was very welcoming and kind to us! 🥟🥟🥟🥟
micheline one star for three years, signature dish is dumplings. the texture of filling taste like baby food to me. aint really my type of food. but am sure it has been Michelin for some reason.
very nice.not dimsum, but much better.its Korean traditional dumplings in clean soup. That will clean your heart and soul. try it.
We had a great lunch here. Wonderful dumplings everything was fresh and delicious.
It was delicious. But honestly, I dont know if it is really worthy to be Michelin guide. Its ordinary like other restaurants.
Delicious mandu well stuffed and delicate but not falling apart - flavours are subtle, definitely dont go in expecting the strong chilli and seasoning of other Korean fare. The chive and pepper pancake was fantastic as well - huge amount of chives, with little batter meaning a much lighter 0ancake than what is usually available. Definitely worth a visit.
Stumbled into this while I was walking around Insadong, apparently this is a Michelin Star place. I had 6 pieces of pork dumplings which are quite big for 11,000 KRW. Taste pretty good but so is alot of non-michelin star dumpling places.
We went there on the basis of it being listed in the Michelin Guide and we werent disappointed. The restaurant is hidden away in a small alleyway and as we walked in, I saw a table by the window where they are making the dumplings by hand, so we knew we were at the right place. We ordered the first item on the menu, which is a dumpling soup for 2 (a mixture of normal and kimchi dumplingsand a side order of Buchimgae (Korean pancake). The soup was delicious and so were the dumplings, and 2 of us struggled to eat it all, and it was well worth it. The total bill came to around 35,000 Won or about US$30, which is pretty good.
I can see why its a Michelin starred restaurant. Staff is friendly and the dumplings and pancakes were incredible. So filling that we didnt have to eat dinner that night
Everything was very tasty and the service is excellent ! The pork slices were very fat, as its usually made in Asia. The dumplings were big (also as usual in Koreabut very tasty, just like the pancake.
Excellent dumpling soup well worth the line up. Its quite busy around lunch time and dinner so get here early.
Michelin recommended 2019 restaurant. Friendly staff with chinese and english menu. Expect a line.
i love the Kimchi dumplings there, the seating there is comfortable if you are looking for Korean styled food and getting tired of fried chicken, BBQ beef. This should be the place you should go. Avoid the long queue at the peak hour of lunchtime.
Very popular spot, expect a line and plan ahead . Located around popular tourist spot insadong and very close to gallery courtyard. The options are varied enough, limited vegetarian options. Dumplings made in-house so fresher than other places.
Michelin dumplings. They are definitely huge dumplings, but I thought the taste could be further accentuated with salt or spices. The wait time was also 15-20 minutes, which is rather long. I would say, visit Myeongdong Kyoja instead for your fix of dumplings.
Authentic Korean Mandu (dumplingsand other local dishes served up plain and simple. Really great, clean flavours that is not too heavy. They do have an English menu available.Queues can get long so come early when the store opens at 11:30am. Last customers usually accepted around 8:30pm even though the shop closes officially at 9:30pm
Really delicious dumpling soup and pancakes. Highly recommended. The ba chain was really good - especially the fermented cold soup.
Superb portion and honest and sincere staff.Dunno what to order but decided on having something soupy for the cold weather, and staff advise the soup dumpling is good enough for 1 pax. Dumping is big and well wrapped. The Caucasian sitting next table to be was served a wrong order and staff was very sincere to make the change without question.
This is a place where the dumplings will not be packed full of flavour and try to blow you away. The filling in these dumplings have a higher amount of vegetables than other types. So the flavour is more subtle and delicate. The meaty broth that the dumplings are put in is seasoned well (though this depends on individual preferenceand flavourful.Going here on a cold day is most reccomended because the food will warm you up and that feeling is one that is very comforting.
Traditional Korean pancakes and dumplings are served here. Good value for a good amount of food. Be prepared of queue during lunch/dinner hours.
High expectations, big disappointment! This place is very overrated. The food wasnt very good including the dumplings, which were a disappointment.
Recently selected as Michelin Guides Bib Gourmand restaurant. Gaesung style Dumpling soup is 10,000 won. Nice atmosphere with excellent food.
