Gadsden Hotel in Agua Prieta
Description
Charming place to stay ! Enjoyed the peace and serenity 😌
Great classic turn of the century hotel. Beautiful lobby. Rooms have been renovated but maintain charm. Beds are very comfortable. Only weird thing is plastic on the windows. Very good and reasonably priced breakfast.
MoreGreat food! Great service! The underground tour is awesome plus haunted room! The staff is just Amazing and friendly!
MoreA very very cool place alot of history...they have great food....an give free tours from 6 to 8 pm........an they say its haunted how cool is that...😃....its a definitely a must see when your in Douglas Az....great food great service just a realy cool place
MoreFood delicious bur service and timeliness were lacking.. Took along time to get seated and took along time for food to arrive
MoreIt’s a nice old place but Terrible services and the workers are very rude. The workers show that they don’t want to be there and dont welcome people how there supposed too.
MoreWe took a small trip out to Douglas from Herferd. We decided to visit this beautiful old hotel. The vibe there was great. We waited for the saloon to open up to have a few drinks before we left. I would like to stay there one of these days.
MoreWe fell in love with The Gadsden Hotel our first visit. Very clean rooms, beautiful lobby, fabulous food. Very welcoming owners and staff. The Tiffany windows are epic. The history of the hotel and the Douglas area is a well kept secret in this country; but we tell everyone!!! We will return!!
MoreJust passing through with some friends. Marvel at early 20th century in the Southwest. A beautiful time piece!
MoreBeautiful hotel. Loved the stained glass. Dont miss the museum off the lobby.
Wonderful stay, the hotel lived up to its reputation. They should charge for the historical tour.
MoreI had to stay in Douglas over night, but this hotel denied me a room for absolutely no reason. I personally feel it was because I was white even though my last name is Lopez. The girl at the front desk only knew the words, “no rooms available, no there wasn’t a manager on site and the restaurant was closed” it was a Sunday, the locals at the bar Cilantro’s told me there was no way that hotel was full.Stay at the best western down the street, they were kind, helpful and the room was very clean.
MoreDidnt actually spend the night here, but stopped for a rest on the way to somewhere else. Cute cafe and restaurant. Gorgeous historical building. Interesting Vietnam Vets museum. Definitely a good place to take a break.
MoreI really enjoyed my stay in this historic hotel. Quiet, comfortable, and good food and morning latte in the restaurant. History is oozing from every wall in this place. Take time to check out the museum and ask for a tour
MoreGreat and historic place. We had an incredible dinner and the staff was awesome. We had dinner for our 20th wedding anniversary and they made it very special.
MoreGreat old historic hotel. Nice lunch and good food in history filled bar and hotel. Good friendly service and reasonable prices.
MoreBeautiful historic hotel with a beautiful lobby. Room was a bit small but clean and furnished nicely with a very comfortable bed. We had a drink at the bar and ate both dinner and breakfast at the cafe. Everybody was very friendly and recommend staying there if you appreciate history.
MoreBeautiful place. Desk staff was over it. Espresso was good. No pastries available. Room was clean and warm.
MoreA wonderful visit back in time. The lobby and rooms were immaculate, dinner and breakfast was delicious with a great wait staff. Zero complaints, 6 1/2 people 3 rooms and beautiful environment. Will definitely do it again.
MoreI have stayed in a number of Henry Trost designed hotels and the Gadsden has been on my list for years. So enjoyed our stay. What made it extra special was Nancy’s kindness. She was able to share a history of the property, show us unique parts of the hotel, and made us feel welcome. We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant; the food and service was wonderful. My wife and I agreed to make staying at the Gadsden an annual event.
MoreThis palace was like a dream. Maybe one of Stephen Kings, but that is entirely okay with me. I enjoyed every minute, even when I had to be reminded that I wasnt in a dream, so to speak. Thank.you, Cheryl, for not kicking me out after my digressions. I am new to visiting hotels, and expect not to make the same mistakes again. A wonderful place stuffed with history.
MoreTheres no shortage of luxuries here, from the service, food, and the history, to the evening vibe. Beds are great and the bathrooms are authentic early 20th century porcelain and tile. We must return. If you are here in winter ask about the nearby Sandhill Cranes.
MoreStopped by for a cup and to take some pictures of the interior beauty. Wow, what a nicely done coffee shop with all the latest equipment. Wish that I had time for breakfast, the meals others were eating looked great. This was an easy stopover after seeing the Sandhill cranes up the road at Whitewater Draw. Its also close to the Chiricahuas mountains for some nice hiking. Maybe next time an overnight stay is in order. Were full time RVrs focused on hiking, blog link in bio.
MoreJust had a wonderful Valentines Day Dinner. The hotel is gorgeous! The food was great! Service was very good!
MoreAbsolutely incredible experience, especially the hotel "tour". We saw floor three with room 333 specifically. We also saw the basement, with the Rathskeller, mens smoking lounge, dumb waiter systems, the Lady in Reds room, and other pretty cool items.
MoreThis place is a must see gem. Just a short trip from Tucson and well worth the drive. The Gadsden Hotel has awesome food and wait staff (Zaria), was friendly and gave insightful information regarding the history of the hotel. Is the hotel haunted? We wanted to find out so we had the pleasure of a guided tour with the Manager Cheryl. She took us down to the basement where we visited the speak easy, the old brothel, pool room and the cigar room. This place has a vast amount of History. And seemed a touch eerie in areas. We did use an Ovilus to see if we could pick up any paranormal voices or activity. You have to check out the most haunted room in the Hotel room 333. This was an awesome experience and everyone was friendly. We learned a bunch of the history of the hotel and were guided around the 3rd floor by Juan. This is a must see place and is under new ownership...
MoreBeautiful hotel, quaint furniture and spacious rooms gives a back in the west reality. From the fully functional antique elevator, carved wooden doors to the rooms that take an old fashioned key to get in your room. Historical pictures and displays finish it off. Jacuzzi tub was clean and cosy, comfy beds.
MoreAbsolutely stunning Hotel, like walking back in time or stepping onto a movie set. The grandiose lobby is an architectural dream, highlighted by Tiffany stained glass, marble staircase and thousands of details to catch your eye.Dinner was dining at its best, ceasar salads to start, jalapeño cheese dip with chips and salsa for the appetizer and grilled chicken alfredo for the entrée, best I have had outside of my own familys kitchens.Showers are wonderful, the jacuzzi in the room is downright dreamy and the bed was the best I have slept in years.10/10 best surprise last minute get away of my life.
MoreThe restaurant does not have a good selection on the menu. I tried to pre-ordered and they said that they would not accommodate to our time as it was New Management and it was not. The food was gross rice very salty and if I like your food I will take it and if not I will not eat people were very not so nice
MoreOld hotel with beautiful interior. Obviously it hasnt aged well. However the rooms are clean. Staff is friendly, and it is a great bit of history.Visit the small museum they have in the hotel. The bar is also interesting. Worth the visit.
MoreI had not been to the Gadsden in a while and my first time back was not good, but the second made up for it.On my second visit to the coffee shop (which is beautifulI had a very nice and attentive barista and a quiet atmosphere. In my first visit, though the staff was nice, they were very inattentive. The coffee wasnt very good either and the manager, a younger guy, along with the other staff were talking loudly across the shop to each other.
MoreThe front desk agent, Juan I believe, was extremely courteous. His welcoming smile was a wonderful introduction to this fine establishment. He so skillfully handed my keys to me that I immediately knew that my stay at the Gadsden would be a great one.
MoreHistorical, very interesting, Pancho Villa rode his horse inside, you can see where a tile was chiped on the stairs, has original elevator, it will take you back in time beautiful. Was owned by a family member of mine.
MoreThis is such a beautiful hotel. The lobby and other public areas are especially grand. It is a historic hotel so dont expect a lot of newer amenities and such. The only complaint I have is that the staff is not very well trained. They try to be helpful, they just lack the necessary training. The first night we stayed I went down to front desk to request more little bottles of shampoo and the front desk agent told me "We dont do that. We dont have any of those" even after I told him that there were already a couple of them provided in our room. He was confused so I just let it go. The second morning we were there I went to the second floor coffee station to get coffee and it obviously had not been stocked from the previous morning. I asked the front desk agent for more creamer and he had no idea what I was talking about so I had to go without. The majority of the front desk staff look like just high-school kids. Like I said, they try, they just arent trained.
MoreI do realize that they are doing renovations, but the room we stayed at still needed lots of work. The windows are taped with plastic (I assume to keep temps and drafts out). Its rather hideous, so keep the curtains closed. We stayed on the first floor as the second and third floors were closed for a haunted house under construction. With that, be mindful that theres alot of noise from outside and random drunk people who play the baby grand piano downstairs. You may not get any quiet time until after 12am, unless some jerk in a loud car revs their engine passing the hotel, and maybe it all stops by 3 in the morning.
MoreBeautiful historic hotel in Douglas. Lots of history and great bar and restaurant on site. Very helpful staff that answered our questions about the past history of the city and the buildings.
MoreStayed there for the last time and bathroom small and toilet tight to get in and out of. Besides putting in new beds, consider upgrading air conditioning and enlarging bathrooms. Sadly the restaurant changes do not match the historic status of the hotel. We have memories and photos to remember this beautiful place.
MoreWhat an awesome experience!!! This place has so much history, class, ambiance, culture, presence... it has it all. Im sitting in the bar waiting for John Wayne, Pancho Villa... the dream is alive here. The best food... the smoked Old Fashion in the classic cowboy bar... the haunted 3rd floor... the Tiffany murals... the marble staircase... Where is Scarlett OHara...Im dreaming all of this???No not really its crazy good.
MoreTry the restaurant!! We came down to Douglas on an errand and had dinner and dessert. The service was excellent and the food was so good. Fancy, yet kid friendly. The prices were reasonable for the quality of food. Zayra and Erick had excellent customer service. The food was also beautifully presented. We will be back!
MoreInteresting period hotel. Incredible lobby area with genuine Tiffany stain glass panels. Room furniture and fittings dated but clean and in good condition. Welcome break from cookie cutter national hotels. Not much happening in Douglas though. Would definitely stay again.
MoreA classic hotel - from an ornate era - Past !!!Beautiful , clean - excellent service - wonderful coffee shop and bar & A First Class RestaurantWith a unique blend of cuisines !! You can order high end first class Mex, or American type continental cuisine and even a touch of Haute Cuisine Fraces !! The chef also bakes all deserts on premises including all breakfast pastries !Lovely Elegant atmosphere ... next time you visit Southern Arizona / Douglas. !
MoreStay in Douglas for the week, and choose this historical hotel. For the current hotel that was rebuilt in 1929, this hotel is amazing from the marble staircases, and columns, to the stain glass window its like stepping back in time. The owners take great pride in this hotel and the staff is amazing. A quick question about the upper floors turned into a unexpected and very much appreciated and enjoyed historically tour of the hotel. From the third floor famous room, down to the remodeled basement where the speakeasy was found. This hotel has character and class that cant be matched by any brand hotel. If in douglas this hotel is a must stay. With the food at the 333 Cafe is simply amazing.
MoreSaddle and Spur bar was a fun little venue and the food was outstanding. Caesar salad with grilled chicken breast one night and 14 oz steak another night. Fun and pleasant staff and patrons as well.
MoreMy boyfriend and I spent one night at this hotel. We had a great experience with the hotel staff and restaurant. The food quality was beyond our expectation. I highly recommend the wild caught Norwegian Salmon, stuffed Portobello mushrooms and shrimp scampi with garlic mashed potatoes. The room wasnt as big as shown in the pictures but they were very clean with, very comfortable bed and bed linens. The pictures you see of the hotel in the ads are not deceiving. The entire hotel looks like a five star hotel. Prices for dinner and breakfast were very reasonable. We spent in mid 50 and high 30 for two people for dinner and breakfast. Dining area was absolutely beautiful tastefully decorated with a nice big fireplace. The hotel has a beautiful patio area upstairs we took time to relax before and after dinner. We took a stroll around town before dinner. Everything was closed looked like a little ghost town with most stores went out of business. This seems was a thriving town before.
MoreThis one is built like they used to build them. Lobby and mezzanine level are well maintained. Staff is efficient, attentive and professional. Restaurant on ground level is very good for the price. Totally unexpected in Douglas.
MoreWe went to Douglas for a Funeral and we stopped and had lunch there Tanya, was great she made sure we had everything we needed we had a party of 14 and they made it happen and the food was so good everyone enjoyed it. Will go there again everyone was pleasant. The Hotel looks good.
MoreBeautiful hotel. Very classy.Restaurant was good. Great fish tacos! Great service. The only negative for me was having a unisex bathroom. Hate when I have to wash the toilet before I can use it. Ladies will understand this.
MoreIt was a gorgeous hotel, full of history and cool stories. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I especially loved the roomy feel from the high ceilings. The owners and staff were helpful, friendly and informative. We had a great time wandering around, reading about the history and taking pictures. The morning before we left, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the restaurant. We will definitely be back!
MoreThis place is absolutely incredible. The property is a museum on its own and spotless top to bottom, every day.Everyone here loves their job and believes in what they are doing and after you meet the owners of this place it is obvious why.You dont just get a room at the hotel you become a member of their family. The hotel is special but your stay will be amazing.
MoreNew owners are amazing, so professional and caring. Making sure every detail was taken care of. Recently celebrated a wedding there, and it was spectacular. The owners came to us throughout the night to make sure everything was okay and our needs were met! The rooms were spacious, clean and the beds are super comfy. Highly recommended to anyone hoping to enjoy the historic hotel!
