The waitress was courteous enough, but her english wasnt good enough to properly communicate with us. We tired to understand the dishes with her help, and ended up getting dishes we didnt want. Another waitress had even worse english, and she told us we cannot pay with a credit card, which was false.

Authentic local restaurant. Almost back in the 80’s I would say. Don’t miss it when in Zagreb!

Soviet style atmosphere. Probably the soups served in bowl that is obviuolsy enough for 2 was the only feature I can recommend. Mushroom soup was popular among the visitor.

what an amazing meal! The best meal we have in our 12 days trip in Croatia.. we ordered and shared grilled squid, roasted duck, mixed meat, mixed vegetables, stir fried rice.. all amazing and super delicious! Waiters and waitresses are the best! We decided to come back for dinner again tomorrow night..

We had an extremely nice experience in the restaurant. The moment we entered we felt serviced and taken care of. The waiters were predominantly sweet elderly men and women who made sure we had everything. The level of service is high class I would say going to old traditional standards of etiquette. The food is amazing if youre into trying out authentic cuisine. We had the sarma, the breaded cheese, a salad and the tomato soup. Except for the salad, most meals were designed for two which means big quantity of food. We finished all of it and we were stuffed. Its ideal for gluttons. They also have a good beer variety.

The menu had a wide variety of dishes from soups and pasta to grilled meat. I ordered the breaded fried cheese with tartar sauce. The staff was prompt and courteous and the food was good.

I was disappointed. The food and service were not good. The menu was vast , but it didn’t explain in English very well how the item was cooked and what it came with. We had veal with a lot of fat and Cevapcici that didn’t come with Ivar or ketchup for the fries. Waiter had no clue what I was saying, but acted like he did. I was surprised it wasn’t good as this was recommended by my hotel.

Im so happy I stumbled on this restaurant during my first not in Croatia. The food was awesome and the staff are very polite. Thank you!

Great service. Delicious dishes, large portions! On the back terrace you can enter with your dog. Not many tourists;)

Excelent food and at a very good price with fast service.

Worst place ive ever been. Waiters are rude and pushy, dont listen to your order. The meat was dry, no sauce except some tartare sauce and bags of ketchup. Only good thing was the beer because that was made in another place. Never coming back again and dont recommend it

Good food, but not the best Croatian food we have tasted. Large portion of soup dishes, definitely not for 1 person. Language barrier issues too, ordering food was a challenge. One of the older waiter tried to serve me something that I did not order. Nearly charged us 1000kuna more than we ordered. Maybe she did not know how to use the machine. Always check what you ordered and the price on the machine.

Went here because of the good reviews. From the look of the exterior (Christmas decoration?and the quite formal interior, we got confused: can we enter in our tourist outfit? But the kind waiter at the entrance guided us to the terrace, which had a more casual atmosphere. The menu is translated in 5 languages, including Japanese (some items were only on Japanese, that, in combination with the very formally dressed waiter made us wonder about the owners connection to Japan :-)Good food, nice quiet outdoor terrace, friendly waiters.

To start of staff is polite in their own way, however English is almost not optional there. We were seated, we ordered food and drinks as usual. We received our drinks, salads and ridiculous amount of cutlery fairly quickly. However, we then waited over 70 minutes for our food to arrive, and it wasn’t anything that required long time to make. All other tables around us, even those seated after us received and finished their food while we were still waiting with no explanation or heads up on why and how long it will take. After the food had finally arrived, it deepened our disappointment as food quality was bellow average. I won’t be coming back even though it’s cheaper than most places for the expense of food quality and service time.

I had a delicious breakfast which consisted of homemade potatoes and a simple ham omelette, both simple and delicious

If you want real home made style food, look no further. It is a piece of history in a modern world. Staff is extremly nice and you see they love their job. Also, educated for the job. Intérieur is what you expect to see in such a place. Clean, bit old style, brings you back to your childhood days.And the food...food is like your Mom had cooked, like your grandma has done it. It is the most cosy meal, reminding you of those family lunches you used to have as a child.We had bean soup, which was simply delicious. Not too thick, plenty of veggies. Also, we took duck with "mlinci". It was perfection.We will definitely come back!

We had tripe soup and grilled squids with fries and veggies. Both was delicious. 😋 The tripe soup also came with the grated cheese as it is traditionally served here in Croatia. That is a big plus, as most restaurants forget about the cheese. The service was fantastic. One of the rare places where waiters still have true class and respect towards the customers. 👨‍💼👨‍💼👨‍💼For the drinks I can reccomend "gemišt" ( white wine mixed with mineral water, 50/50 ratio ). Its is really refreshing. 👍As for the deserts - I can reccomend the chocolate pancakes. They have real chocolate inside and the taste is great. 🥞👌

If what you are looking for is traditional comfort food this is it. We had a lovely meal on their street front deck of Goulash, stuffed sauerkraut with meat, stuffed peppers, and some fried dough. All were delicious. Service was friendly and the prices fair. One of the more satisfying meals I’ve had in some time.

I came here twice (breakfast and lunchfor its amazing Croatian food and it doesnt disappoint. Great value, casual friendly service.

We had a little bit of a language barrier with our waitress, but that didn’t stop us from having an excellent meal and a lovely experience. Prices were very reasonable as well! The menu is rather long. 😀

Very good place to try original croatian food.

Got recommended this restaurant by locals and have to say it was worth it. Friendly grandma owner who speaks English, delicious food and location in city center. BUT the most difficult thing is to choose from the very long menu (where are no photosand English translations are not always the same as original Croatian (translations usually don’t describe the meal correctly and are confusing), we spent about 20 mins by choosing from the menu which wasn’t fun at all. Food was delicious anyway. We had “Veal stew seasoned with paprika” (Teleci paprikas s pire krumpirom, 69 kunaand Sarma - rolled sauerkraut leaves stuffed with minced meat (Sarma is kiselog zelja, pire krumpir i dinstano zelje, 69 kuna)

An old-school type of restaurant situated in the downtown Zagreb. It may seem a bit odd at the first glance (compared to some more modern, fusion-type of restaurantsbut one should not be discouraged because in the end you wont leave disappointed. We were friendly greeted by the staff at the very entrance and taken to our table in the new part of the restaurant which is spacious and full of light (and which is basically a part of the large backdoor terrace open in warmer part of year). The waitress was very attentive and helpful so we made our order pretty fast. We started off with herb and honey brandy and then shared a home-made mushroom soup (one portion was enough for two persons). For the main course we had home-made grilled sausages with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut and fried breaded hake with tartar sauce and fries. Just like the soup, the meals were excellent and tasty; needless to say that portions are really generous so in the end you do get a real value for your money. For drinks we had (stillone of the best of the Croatian dark beers („Tomislav“and white wine with a scent of water (locally known as „škropec“which paired good with the food. Finally, for desert we had homemade style pancakes with walnuts and chocolate dressing (again one portion was enough for the two of us). So, if youre into discovering traditional Croatian/Zagreb food, this place is definitely worth a visit!

Traditional cuisine is cooked here. Very tasty food with local dishes served old fashioned way. Beside that, you can order variety of meat and bbq. It is rather simple place and can be overbooked during lunch time. Moderate prices. Parking can be a problem, but since is located in city center, better come by foot. Highly reccomend this restaurant.

Ordered 2 stuffed burger, 3 pork sirloin and some calamari. Waiters took the initiative to pile it nicely all on to 1 plate so that we can share easily. Food tasted amazing while also being reasonably priced. Menu was also in English, along with 4 other languages. Overall, would strongly reccomend stopping by if youre around the city.Waitress also spoke English which made things so much easier and smooth.

I am an American of Croat descent. I know nothing of the culture but my kids and I decided to visit on our first trip to Europe so we could learn. Purger was the only real sit-down restaurant we visited, mostly because my budget required grocery shopping and cooking in our Airbnb flat. I had no idea what to expect and I still dont know if the food was authentically Croatian, but it was delicious! This was also my first experience with service in the country. I thought the server was very sweet in trying to speak English for us. I had only been able to learn a few words and phrases in Croatian, certainly not enough to order a meal. The menu was translated into English, though. We had a lovely dinner and my only "complaint" is that Im spoiled by living in a non-smoking country. I did know to expect that, though. I am already planning my next trip to Zagreb and another meal at Purger is definitely in the plans!

Great service, great food and reasonably priced. We had goulash and stuffed beef mince with seasonal veges, a glass of wine and a gin and tonic for about AUD 42.

Nice and pleasant service.I ordered the stuffed seasoned hamburger steak. It was tasty and the French fries that came with it were salted just enough and were tasty as well.Comes also with a slice raw onion and a lettuce leaf.Nice portion for the order. Prices are roughly in line with other restaurants in the downtown area. It might be a little high for Zagreb but more than reasonable for myself being American.Menu was nice too.lol

Great food (especially the meatand exceptionally nice service. Average pricing, not super low or high, and the portion sizes are huge! English and German descriptions in the menu.

The best quality of food in Zagreb. Like 5 euro meal rind-wine soup in the center of City Zagreb and of course clean well trained dog can be inside, aircondittion is on and very good inside so in the culture of old Zagreb citizens is loving animals. So search an old Zagreb places like this to eat)

Very nice restaurant. Hidden in an ugly building is a nice restaurant with good food. In the back there is a garden. The service we got from the waitress was very good. We wanted to sit some further from people smoking. That was understood. Even another client that came in with cigarettes was seated elsewhere 😀. The food is a combination of traditional Croatian food and then some. Price and quality perfectly balanced.

Eccellent simple and friendly old style restaurant. The menu is in different languages, seemingly a tourist trap. But the food is excellent, and gives you the possibility to taste traditional Croatian dishes. The staff are helpful, and although their knowledge of English is limited they find ways around it. A great place to which I can return one day. Main dishes are enormous.

My boyfriend and I had a outstanding traditional Croatian lunch, in particular we would recommend the paprika stew for its tenderness and tasty flavour. Cevapcici are also a solid choice, you would never go wrong with them. Homemade french fries were enjoyed.

If youre looking for delicious local food this is the place! Very flavourful food, simple and traditional. Large plates so come with an appetite. The bean stew with bacon was delicious and brought back the feeling of a home cooked meal. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

This is an absolute hidden gem of Zagreb! I am rarely surprised by restaurants, but this one beats all of them! Splendid service from the very beginning when you step into the restaurant and they help you with your coat to the way the dish is served. Definitely recommending the beef soup as a starter, sarma as main and I hope youll have some room for desert too! Go for the apple liquor too as a digestive. And everything is so reasonably priced!! Great staff and people, such a pleasant afternoon spent in there! Made my day!
