Posh destination for British dining all day, along with afternoon tea & weekend champagne brunch.
Nice cozy beautiful place is very good food and service. They have a very beautiful tea room where you can drink tea in peace and quiet and relax. A wonderful place!!! Highly recommend!
We dined at The GBR last night as a party of six. It would be fair to say that the GBR has one of the least imaginative menus in mayfair and probably makes the Pall Mall clubs look innovative..Upon arrival we were told1. They only had 4 steaks left2. They had no duck3. They had no musselsService was geologically slow and rude, the waiter serving drinks seemed to think that each time we ordered a bottle of water he had to immediately empty it into the water glasses on the table whether people were drinking or not. We ordered a £90 bottle of wine, this was not available and we were told the only available was a very mediocre Malbec at £30.We arrived at 7.30 and main courses were not served until 9pm after multiple chases.I ordered a monkfish starter, which came in the greasiest batter known to man and a large portion of fries, a very strange starter, main course was a lamb dish, to be fair it tasted nice but was at best tepid.None of us could face desert as we were all desperate to leave the restaurant as the service was so poor and the food so disappointing.I honestly think this was the worst dining experience Ive had in London this year. AVOID.
👍
Real good
The service was really good. It is a small restaurant with high quality service and food. The price is a bit on the higher side, but it is totally worth it. However, we would have liked a bigger portion.
The quality of the food and service is very good. But its very expensive to buy breakfast here (its a hotel but we were not staying there). If money is not a factor go for it. But you can find much better value for breakfast at other places in London
Fine food. Great chefs.Set menu was exceptional in quality and value. But you have to ask for it!The service we received from Denisa was terrific. Well done and thank you!
Quiet and intimate restaurant. Can have a conversation and hear one another. The food was delicious, with fresh, high-quality ingredients. There are very few restaurants in London that I would visit again, and this is one of them.
Absolutely stunning food and atmosphere. Would definitely come again!
Amazing food, beautiful hotel and restaurant and lovely staff. Whats not to like. The set menu was amazingly good value. I will definitely be going again.
It is a different taste of food. At the beginning you will feel it is small and will not be enough for a person like me who eat a lot. But when you start eating and feel the taste you will be full. I usually eat very fast but with this one I went slow.I tasted all of them 😂. The lamb was so tasty!!!
Surprisingly affordable for the quality of the food (and being inside DUKES). The service was great and the house white wine was exceptional.
Great place for quite dinner. We went there on Thursday night and the place was quite busy but the same time quite enough to have a pleasant evening. Service was good, they didn’t rush us for the order like some places dose. When we were not ready to order (took us a while to decide, we just couldn’t stop chatting)they give us enough time. What I like the most is the really nice and simple menu. Only few starters which you can have either small portion as a starter or a bigger for the main course. Lovely and fresh food. Feels like a bit overprice but I guy you pay for all the package.
This little, hidden gem was tucked away in a hotel building, which was surprising. The food is a must-try!
We found this restaurant on accident and it was a great find! Inside the Duke hotel is a very nice restaurant. Luckily they had plenty of room for our very big and loud party! They were able to serve our needs with ease. The tea and food was delicious! I am so grateful for the staff!
Lovely venue, friendly knowledgable staff, but most of all fabulous food. This was my first visit but will definitely be back.
Last Wednesday me and my colleagues visited GBR for Christmas party dinner.Everything was absolutely great. Service was top of top. And food amazing. Thank you all who served us. We had great time.
Everything was amazing! We had our team Christmas lunch here, 13 of us in total. The preparation, execution of service, and quality of the dishes were all amazing!!! Thank you so much to Denisa and her team.
Really good restaurant with great food and helpful staff. Beer is a little ridiculously priced.
Great customer service, food was good but a little bit of wait only because it was a tad bit busy.
Had an excellent dinner here and judged on that experience I would rate it five stars. But since I stayed at Dukes hotel I also had breakfast at the same restaurant the morning after and it was a real disappointment. I had to wait for ages to get my simple order. Two times I had to ask the staff for the order.
The afternoon tea was excellent. The clotted butter and scones were a highlight of the meal, but the curry flavored butter sandwich with chicken and drops of plums was sensational at the least. The choice of tea leaves nothing to chance and the atmosphere of the sun room setting led to an enjoyable afternoon spent absent from sightseeing.
Came here for dinner. This place was really nice with great food. Next to ala-carte, you may also choose to have the 2 or 3 course set meal. Prices were really affordable for its quality. They even have a kids menu. The staff were also very nice. Would definitely come back here again.
Excellent food and atmosphere. The dishes (brunch at leastcan be selected as a small or large portion, and the small are quite small. We had a long wait on our food, but, without us saying anything, the chef sent two desserts as an apology!
Had a dinner here in June. Food was decent - some great dishes some mediocre - consistency is needed.Service was slower than expected considering there were three tables dining. Waiters very polite, hostess needs some motivation though.2 out of 6 main courses (duck and lambhad to be sent back as were too cold - had been sitting around on the kitchen counter too long.Overcharged on drinks as well by two zero beers - but at that point in the night we were too tired and British to mention.Recommend if you forgot to make plans elsewhere and you can’t find a reservation anymore.Been to better but also been to far worse.
We arrived just before the lunchtime opening, but they started us anyway and offered drinks. The service was completely on point, and the food was absolutely fantastic!
I have enjoyed very much of my last dinner. A beautiful place and full of many tasty dishes.
I had the pleasure to host GBR (Great British Restaurant). He made a real effort to leave the premises as clean as when he arrived. Would love to have him back!
The space is lovely and comfortable. Staff very attentive. However we did not particularly enjoy the food and drink. Much effort goes into the cocktail making, but our Martini and Negroni were both watery and unbalanced. Some food was good ( soup but the Fish and Chips were just not right. The Grilled radicchio tasted old and oily.Thought we had discovered a real gem but won’t be returning. Shame about the food.
Very warm hospitality. Great food and great atmosphere.Staff are friendly and make us feel like neighbourhood restaurant. However , nothing compromised to the price and all are in great value .Must come back
Great food and wine, if you want to mix and match, nothing is too much.
Be careful... I live in Indiana and have never been to London. Yet, my card paid for someones lavish dinner without a card present. Seems like the restaurant would insist on a card being present!?
This place has become one of my favourite spots in London. It is very cozy and comfortable. Very private. It it perfect if you want a nice relaxed quiet dinner or lunch. Rarely busy or loud. The staff is very nice and always there as many questions as you have and for everything you need.Great selection of drinks and food.Never had reservation. The design is very modern and intelligent yet simple. Will always come back with pleasure.Thank you!
This was an excellent date night venue. We had the set menu which is well priced, nice portions and excellent british food. The service was excellent and a good intimate atmosphere.
Good food and atmosphere. The staff were attentive. But as non-native English speakers, there appeared to be a communications divide when ordering. For example, when asking for starters/appetizers, the staff repeatedly offered aperitifs. Other than that, the experience was lovely, and the food was delicious.
Great food, lovely location, and absolutely incredible service. Will definitely be back soon
Just had a late lunch here after a last minute reservation while leaving the palace. Located in the Drake boutique hotel. Staff exceptionally charming especially with our sassy 3year old. Kids chicken and sweet potato fries were a good size portion- adult size really. Half portion smashed avocado with duck egg, and the lamb roast both very good. Great value overall considering the high level of service and attention to detail.
Excellent service, wonderful staff! The food was also very good, both in terms of presentation and taste, at absolutely reasonable prices for the quality and variety. Could not recommend more! :D
Very nice venue, delicious food and excellent service staff who were engaging and very friendly. At the end our bill didnt reflect the deal wed booked it on, but this was dealt with quickly and very politely. Highly recommend this place, and will certainly be coming back.
This restaurant has fantastic food and would definitely recommend the duck! Staff are really friendly, kind, and quick to service. There is nothing bad I could say other than I wish they gave me more! The food is also reasonable for the food that you get and the desserts are equally fantastic.Me and my partner would definitely go again. 5/5
Came here with my family for brunch, and found a really nice place where to have a meal! The staff is really kind and helps tourists with the dishes, the food amazing and not too expensive for its its nice quality, and the location clean and elegant. To conclude: quiet, comfy place to have a good meal in. Would recommend
Very nice food and great service. I had mussels to start, which were nicely cooked, sauce was beautiful and the portion was quite large. Then I had fish and chips for main. The fish was delicious, well presented and has a thin crispy batter. The thick chips were ok but can be better. My friend had scallops to start, which came with only two scallops so it was a bit stingy small for the price. The burgers they had seemed really big but average in terms of taste.
Very beautiful interior and a nice location. The food taste was good, portion sizes were a little small but the deliciousness overtook that factor. Service was amazing! Satisfied!
One of the best meals ive had in a very long time, and service was impeccable! A little hidden, but glad we found it.
We booked Easter lunch here. They did a great Easter egg hunt for my son that was really fun. They even made a chocolate bunny for him with his name on it. The meal was delicious. The servers were very accommodating if my small son by offering a PB&J and something to color on. The service was the perfect amount of attentive and accommodating. I would go here again any day.
Great service and nice wine!Food was good but not spectacular that day.
Great place for British food. Had the 3 course set menu for dinner with Grilled Rocchio, Lamb Cutlet and Meringue Lemon Pie which all very good. At a very good price point too.
This is a good concept but is overpriced for the product and service. The product is British favourites done well, and they are good but Ive had better in local pubs. The service is good when theres few other customers, but flustered and below par when its busy. Not worth visiting unless youre staying in the Hotel: there are many better places to eat nearby.
Elegant decor, lovely breakfast with a huge choice on offer. Im sure it would be great for lunch and supper.
The all-day dining concept of GBR (Great Brisitsh Restaurantin St. James is all about seasonally inspired dishes. The preparation brings out the flavours of each ingredient and the plates are beautifully presented.Dishes we tried included Duck Liver parfait with Yorkshire Pudding; Norfolk Crab with Rye Bread and Crab Mayonnaise. For mains the Isle of Gigha Halibut was an excellent dish in a Clam Chowder with foraged Sea Herbs. Desserts were dark chocolate mousse and Lemon Curd Parfait.Service is friendly and knowledgeable offering advice on the sourcing of the ingredients to wines that complement the food.Hidden gem in the St. James area (Inside the Dukes Hotel)
