Funky Java Coffee House - Coffee shop in Yorkville, United States
Delicious coffee and friendly service!
Simple- great coffee, smiling faces. No frills, no pretense.
Not impressed in the slightest. Businesses with dim lights are always messy and gross, and this place is no exception. While the guy at the counter was nice, I was given a cup of milk when I ordered a latte. I came back in to get another shot and it still was the weakest coffee Ive ever drank. At least it was cheap. I can clearly see why.
Great atmosphere, nice folks, and excellent hot chocolate. A wonderful little community coffee shop.
Larry is the man, the man with the good coffee. I have been enjoying his craft since a young kid(iced hot chocolate). Thank you for keeping your doors open! Long live the funky Java
THE BEST COFFEE MADE BY THE BEST GUY IN TOWN!Dunkin? Why bother with that consistently burnt tasting crud, Funky Java is by FAR brewed with greater care and precisionStarbucks? A crazy long line with crazy prices and constant out of stock issues, come here for a delightful latte to power through your morning instead.Ive officially made a switch.Neither of these chains can provide the charm, the vibe, the community, and the love this place can.The heart of Villa Park can be found right here.Way more deserving and worth it, trust me!
Love to support the locals wherever I may be. Mr Larry was very cool! Coffee was great!!
Great place for a great cup of coffee, everyone is so friendly, and the owner treats you like family. Try it youll love it
Best coffee around! Definitely check it out if you are near!
THIS was a funky place!!!Gathered with my sibs and mom before we all headed home from a week long of festivities.Greeted by the owner and he was awesome! Been in the business for 26 years and going strong!!Everyone that entered knew one another so it definitely felt cozy enough to call this Cafe a second home for some!!
Off the beaten path but close to major highways and very easy to get to. Yummy oat milk latte with just a bit of hazelnut! Very kind, fast, and friendly service. 😆
Awesome place. The owner is a really nice guy to talk to. Atmosphere is chill, with great hospitality. Espresso is smooth with a taste of sweetness. Pricing is really cheap. I paid under $3. Overall would love to come back here.
Amazing coffee, great atmosphere, and loved studying here. The owner is incredibly friendly and the small business neighborhood coffee vibe is refreshing in the wake of franchised coffee places. I was even being indecisive, and the owner went ahead and recommended a mocha that I absolutely loved. 10/10 recommend and I will be coming back here every time I need coffee or a cute place to study!
Local jazz and coffee stop. We used to stop in every weekend, and would still be doing so had we not moved. The owner is a wonderful person, the coffee is excellent, and the atmosphere cannot be beat. Very good pricing as well!
Wonderful local coffee house! The gentleman behind the counter is so warm and friendly makes me want to go there everyday. Shop local small businesses!
Simply Great Coffee. As you like or me just plain black and hot. No real food but a Great bakery next door.
Great coffee house. Real sense of community there. The owner (Larryis super friendly and along with the regular customers are very welcoming. Stop by sometime and say hello.
Walking into this place felt like I transported into a TV sitcom. A true neighborhood feel with the friendliest of staffs and patrons. Larry and customers are willing to make you feel at home, have a conversation, or even introduce you to another customer. Its great to know Villa Park has local establishments like Funky.Solid coffee, good prices. Highly recommend starting your morning here.
I cant even put into words how amazing this locally owned business is! I came in before work, very much in need of a good coffee and they sure provided exactly that. I ordered an iced caramel latte and I was so pleased.Although the coffee is the main selling point, the first step you take inside you’re overcome by good vibes. From the astounding artwork hugging the walls all the way to the mellow music playing this place is all around a must go!!!The owner greeted me kindly upon my entrance and gave me a list of all the delicious iced drinks I should consider while I place my order. He then explained to me all the wonderful events they hosted before COVID. Man, I sure wish I came out here when they had the Plain White Tees playing outside and for the car shows they’d host here as well. This is a fine establishment with delicious coffee and an amazing management. I would recommend this place for anyone in the area or anyone who is willing to make the drive for a delicious cup of coffee.
Local coffee house where they know all their customers. Friendly, caring staff. Coffees are tasty and relatively inexpensive. The place itself is not one we’d likely hang out in even post COVID. Hit the bakery next door and this is a great way to start your day!
A once magnificent and opulent Cafe that much resembled a Sultans Palace, is today nothing more than an empty shell of its former self. It is a sad ghost of better times and once familiar faces. All good things must must come to an end. Larry is still friendly enough but the people and customers are now only ghosts. The place is hardly open to boot. What once looked like a museum , now looks like an abandoned store, and the people who visit are sad faced ghosts of better times.
The vibe was on point as soon as I walked in. Locals chatting it up, free smells, and local artwork everywhere you look. Funky Java not only serves great coffee, but they also constantly support and encourage members of their community. It is a great space to relax, study, or get together with a group of friends. The owner and barista is always giving his customers the best experience, it is impossible to not smile in this establishment. Thank you Funky Java for making the small town of Villa Park a happier place.
Funky Java is the hub of Villa Park. The proprietor of this establishment is awsome and always greets you with a big warm smile and a what can i get ya ? Oh yeah the coffee is good too.Ya gotta believe
There is something about this place that I love. Its very basic, unpretentious. You can get a nice cup of coffee, not have to learn a new language to order it, and just sit and read the paper. My first time visiting here, was short on cash, just a debit card. The owner said dont worry about it, enjoy! Even the customers were cordial to me. I will be back.
Excellent Coffee! On my first visit I had the almond milk latte, and it was the best almond latte Ive ever had. The environment was very friendly and homey. My new favorite place in Villa Park!
Super friendly hole-in-the-wall (hole in the strip mall hahalocal establishment with many a good conversations to be had. The coffee itself is mild but the kind service and family-feel makes up for that in dollops! Will return for the good company.
The owner was very friendly and recommended drinks. He explained where the espresso beans came from and how theyre prepared. Small and eccentric inside, lots of music memorabilia. Prices were reasonable and our drinks were good!
Dirty coffee house with a rude owner who is a bike anti Trumper and he and his friends swear and talk politcs all morning long. The place is cash only and he puts controls the cream of this very awful watered down coffee served
A really funky spot to get some coffee. Its a strip mall, so it can be hard to miss. I got my usual order of a breve latte and it was made to perfection. The service is quick and friendly and its a nice place to kill some time with a group.
Great coffee, great prices! The guy behind the counter (I assume was the ownerwas excellent and friendly as well!
Absolutely loved this place. Im a huge fan of non-chain establishments and this adorable coffee shop was no different. As soon as I walked in, it was clear that every single person in that shop knew each other. No worries though, the owner and everyone in there made me feel so at home, and no one bothered me while I read for about an hour or so. I made the stop to kill time and was so glad I did.
Basics:Good coffee, convenient location and friendly service. The Important Stuff:This place is a staple in the community. If you are looking for the impersonal, assembly line, quick experience of a Dunkin Donuts then this place may not be what you are looking for. However, if you are looking for a joint with die hard regulars, immense local knowledge and a "welcome to my living room" feel then please join us here! My family and I look forward to lazy Saturday mornings when we can head over for a cup of coffee, some chocolate chip cookies and a dozen of our neighbors. Even if you arent from around here, new faces are welcome. Be ready to be a little social and stop and smell the roses for more than a minute! Thanks for the home away from home, Larry!
This place is more of a person than a business - think of it as such and youll be quick to "get it." Hours can fluctuate, moods can change, and there are new things all the time. The coffee and espresso are wonderful and youre bound to meet someone interesting if you stick around long enough.
Tried to get a cup of coffee before heading out of town. Their hours are listed as open at 8am on Sunday on Google. Get there at 8:20 and the doors are locked and all the lights are off. Guess Ill just have to go to Dunkin
Larry takes the Cake !! A great coffee shop in Villa Park , illinois . With Artists shows , coordinated By : Tom Mahady . And local Bands . This is the real nitty-gritty blue color , coffee house .
Come on in and say hello! Youll find good tea, coffee and cookies. Bakery next door. Good place to meet locals and to find out whats going on in the area. Comfortable area to study or read the paper and extra seating outside. Cash only.
The owner and his family are sweet, warm, funny & inviting. They have a stablished set of regulars that come and go through out the day. I love that Kuppies and Funky Java dont mind you getting your doughnut at one and coffee at the other. Ive been going here for yearapid and stop in when ever Im in the area again. If youre in the area you should try them out.
I wanted to like this place since it is a local place, but it isnt that great. Walking in they had a cute sign outside, however when you enter the Coffee house it is quite dark inside. There were some regulars inside reading and drinking some coffee. There are board games that you can play with friends and there is art you can view along the wall which is pretty neat. The girl working behind the counter was very nice, and gave me suggestions as I looked at the menu. I ended up getting a hot chocolate as well as a Funkaccino with chocolate. The hot chocolate tasted as if it just came from your standard Swiss Miss packaging unfortunately. The Funkaccino was an ice blend with chocolate syrup and left an odd after taste when I would take a break from drinking the iced beverage. I ended up throwing it out because the after taste was just not doing it for me.
Stopped in here to eat some donuts we bought next door and have some coffee. Lived in VP a year now and haven’t been here yet but I will definitely be back. Awesome environment with art on the walls and great music. They have live music as well which we will be back to check out. Didn’t catch the baristas name but he was super friendly. Cash only place and I didn’t realize that until after I ordered. He was nice enough to not make a big deal about it while I made a quick run to the atm. Loved the small town feel and friendliness.
Took Mom here once and the owner ruined our experience by making us feel stupid. The coffee hed served us was quite weak and I asked him if perhaps that pot had brewed wrong - I was being self-effacing and gracious because I hate confrontation. His response was unprofessional and very demeaning and he essentially told us that our taste buds were wrong - no one else ever complains, etc. Who needs that? Havent return since.
Larry is the nicest barista. Gave us a great breakfast recommendation and shared some of his delicious espresso with us.
Just stopped at this place for a cup of coffee for the road. I was greeted by the nicest guy behind the counter who informed me they do not take debit ot credit cards. Well it was my lucky day because I found a couple bucks in my wallet and was able to grab a cup of coffee for the road. Great coffee, great atmosphere and great people. Keep this local gem in business and stop here next time youre in Villa Park.
Great guy, great coffee. Just stopped in for a refuel, but I didnt have cash so he gave it to me for free. I hope that others stop in for a good cup of coffee from this review
Best coffee house in the burbs and the best service ever. No more starbucks for me. Very good location right next to my favorite bakery.
Great double shot of espresso for an afternoon refreshment! The owner was very nice and I will be back! Cash only but nice round prices. Great place.
Ive only been to Funky Java a few times, but every time, the owner (I feel so bad that I dont know his namehas been super great. Hes always super polite and friendly, and makes me feel welcome. The coffee is great, but they are cash only, so make sure you have some paper money on you! (There is an atm in the parking lot, if youre in a pinch.)
Really good coffee, nice people, and has a bakery right next door. A nice alternative to the DD that is basically on every street corner. Try the Funkaccino.
the best friendliest coffee shop in the nw. suburbs larry is a great person & family man who cares about others. been going there many years cofee is great & the hospitality is top notch. prayers & blessings larry to you & your family. brotherdaniel
Great experience. The coffee is great. Larry the owner greets you personally and makes a great coffee. Cash only business.
I love this place. Been going since they opened and hop to be going for many years to come! As a fellow small business owner, I know the importance of customer service and personaizing my business, apparently the owner has mastered this because he is very well loved by the community. Keep up the good work!Marcus...
